Take the money and oust her

Out of your comments in a previous thread, I wrote this piece:

I asked visitors in my blog what they would have done if they were in the shoes of Fr. Ed Panlilio when Malacañang handed out paper bags full of money and later knew the money could be tainted.

Cvj said not only would he not have accepted the money but he would have reported it to the Commission on Audit. “Each act of acceptance perpetuates a corrupt system.”

But there are others who have the same mind as Fr. Ed. TurningPoint said, “I will accept the money because it was given in Malacañang which is the seat of government. Supposedly, transactions in Malacañang are official in nature and funds or money given is taxpayers’ money and recipients must be accountable for it.

“Knowing afterwards that the money is tainted with fraud, the provincial government should keep the money but no disbursements should be made. Better still, display the whole P500,000.00 so that the public could see it when they visit the provincial capitol of Pampanga.

“Returning the money will be an exercise in futility for nobody will accept it officially. In fact they will deny to death that the amount came from somebody in Malacañang.”

Cocoy said: “I would take the money although it’s only a small amount. I’ll use the money to buy some medicine for the sick. At least, it will help the poor, needy people.”

Vonjovi2 said now that they money has been linked to the bastardization of the impeachment process, he would like Fr. Ed to show where the money would be used so that the people would know that he did not pocket the money and hopefully other congressmen would follow his example.

Fr. Ed said last Monday that he was writing Malacañang a letter acknowledging receipt of P500,000 in cash and also inquiring where the money came from. (Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya denied the money came from his office.) Meanwhile, the money would be kept in a vault in the provincial capitol.

Martina said if she were in Fr. Ed’s place she would “get the money and display it at the provincial capitol for everybody to see how rotten the Arroyo administration is.”

Vic, who is based in Canada, said “I’ll deposit the money and issue an equivalent amount to the Receiver General or National Treasurer to put the money back in government hands. That will show others that money should be disbursed in a transparent process and all accounted for.

“Otherwise the country can collect all kind of taxes and most of them will just end up buying influence, bribing to stay in power and in return to profit financially themselves from being in power.”

Atty36252, a Filipino lawyer based in the United States, recalled the Quintero case before Ferdinand Marcos declared martial law in 1972.

Summarizing the 1970 Quintero case, Atty 36252 (his student number in UP), said Eduardo Quintero was one of the delegates to the Constitutional Convention to amend the 1935 Constitution. “Quintero charged Marcos with paying the Con-Con delegates. He collected all the money paid to him, then reported it to the Con-Con president (Diosdado Macapagal). Evidence was complete; meticulously recorded by Quintero. Tapos na si Macoy? No sir.

“Macoy’s men went on overdrive, the NBI searched Quintero’s house, and found more money. They concocted a story that someone paid Quintero to besmirch Macoy.”

Atty 36252 advises Fr. Ed to preserve the evidence “dahil baka magaya siya kay Quintero, now that deny to death ang Malacañang.”

Shaman of Malilipot said, “I would not have accepted the money because the intention behind the gift-giving was clearly to corrupt. The money was not given in the normal course of government business. Accepting the money was tantamount to condoning corruption.”

Diego Guerrero said: “I would reject outright money from a stranger. What help? Oh, tukso, layuan mo ako.”

Klingon, who has good connections in the military, said “It’s all just a game for GMA. It isn’t about governance or the people’s welfare. It’s just about staying in power.”

Klingon made a suggestion which I find attractive: “Wouldn’t it be justice, if some of those who received money, used it somehow, to oust her?’

Chabeli also liked Klingon’s idea: “I would take the money and would let my constituents know where the money came. Then I would do the same as Klingon. I would definitely use “it to oust her.”

Okay then. Next time, bigger paper bags, please.

Fr. Ed is unlikely to suffer the same fate as that Quintero mainly because Fr. Ed is a priest. A priest is expected to be more credible than the others (but not all priests and bishops). As I write, Cong. Beltran is confined in the hospital after being hurt in a serious car accident. Binangga ang kotse niya. Aksidente o sinadya?

There is money for the congressmen and governors and yet none for the soldiers in combat. Take Among Ed’s, Jonjon Mendoza, and Rep. Macias money as well as whoever else admits they were given “gifts”. Put it on display in a glass case at the Marines headquarters as a message to the long-suffering and gallant Marines that it is time to repudiate this rotten government.

Had a very hard to access Ellenville.

The gods in Malacanang who are now panicky are again on spending spree to pay people and groups to stop media in putting out news on the MAAGANG CASH-KO sa mga kapanalig ni glorya arroyo. I suspect they’re also out blocking Ellenville’s bloggers whose continued hard hitting comments no doubt reached the illegal occupant in Malacanang.

Sana, the outrage over the CASH-SUNDUAN will go beyond the same magnitude we have seen in condemning the racial slur heaped on Filipino medical workers in the “Desperate Housewives”. Kapag nangyari ang ganito with Filipino professionals abroad and the OFWs joining hands with all other groups who would like to bring back sanity in our government, a global outrage will snowball into a movement to oust glorya.

Share the pie crooks. The poor barangay residents should ask ‘balato’ from their mayors, governors and tongressmen to buy a package of instant noodles. They got their cash gift from Malacanang and so it’s reasonable to share it to their poor constituents. Let’s see how they can handle throngs of poor residents asking for ‘balato‘. Dapat kulitin nila ang kanilang mayor, governador at diputado. Hello mayor, governor, tongresman mayroon ba tayo diyan?

If I am Ed Panlilio, I will seek counsel from the Vatican and let the world know how right was Cardinal Sin’s righteous dogma on bribery. I will by passed the present papal nuncio. He is useless. He does not know that part of his duty is to exercise moral authority over the Philippine dominion.

If Panlilio fails to do that, then somebody (not me I am too cynical for that) must write Pope Benedict to seek the Curia’s wisdom on how miseducation and mis teachings of the Philippine clergy contributed immensely to the morass and misfortune the Filipinos are suffering now as a result of immoral intimacies between the church leaders and the country’s criminal politicians. Religion like
Catholicsm plants and nurtures bad culture.

Ed Panlilio should not resign from the church. No reason for that. His being a priest sort of deodorizes political crimes (which now include kidnapping and murder of activists critics). His being a politician brings honor not shame to other priests. To sleep in both beds of the state and religion is proof that two can play the
game: wolves donning sheep’s clothing while sheeps can wear
the masks of wolves and behave like wolves.

Corruption within the church and Vatican has been going on for centuries. There was even one Pope who was assassinated after he discovered the financial anomaly inside the Vatican.

May I remind you that the Catholic Church has been in existence longer than the above religious groups.

Something weird does seem to be going on with ellentordesillas.com. Maybe I’m just paranoid. Whenever I type in the url it seems like the dns lookup takes a very long time – once it gets to the page, the page loads quickly.

The RSS feeds come though fine. Ellen – can you please publish full RSS feeds instead of partial? If something does go screwy with accessing the site, maybe at least we can read the full RSS.

  12. One advice to bloggers here, make sure your spyware and virus buster are on especially after you see those windows asking for net access ID and password. Don’t give them out. Some people are just apt to look for those in the Philippines to shut them up by bribery or by some death squad.

If that is not suppression of freedom, what is? Enough is enough.

Note the word “uupong matino” for unless a person is as dedicated, committed and valiant as Senator Trillanes, I doubt if any of those aspiring to be president now or in 2010 would try to be better than the criminal now calling herself as president. Labas niyan, baka ma-outbeat pa si GLORC gaya ng pag-outbeat nila kay Marcos in committing graft and corruption .

Bunye: Arroyo orders probe of Palace ‘bribery’

    By Lira Dalangin-Fernandez
    INQUIRER.net
Last updated 03:04pm (Mla time) 10/17/2007

MANILA, Philippines — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered a “thorough investigation” of the reported distribution of cash to local government executives and lawmakers in Malacañang last week that have fueled charges the administration is trying to buy the officials’ loyalty.

Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said Wednesday Arroyo has tasked the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission to handle the probe, which is aimed at finding out who was responsible for the alleged distribution and the source of the funds.

Months ahead of last week’s row over “cash gifts” for local politicians and legislators, the Commission on Audit had admonished the Office of the President, under Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, to hold its officers accountable for sundry questionable expenses in 2006.

The COA said the Palace had diverted donations for calamity areas to spruce up the Malacanang Golf Course, incurred huge amounts of unliquidated cash advances, issued loans without records, and could not explain big discrepancies between the booked and physical inventories of supplies, property and equipment.

Sergio Apostol, chief presidential legal counsel, told GMANews.TV Wednesday night that incurring unliquidated cash advances “is normal” among government agencies.

Corruption within the church and Vatican has been going on for centuries. There was even one Pope who was assassinated after he discovered the financial anomaly inside the Vatican.

Tapos he was acting as if he was
Jesus Christ in goodness and piety (Ayaw niyang nakaluhod ang mga madre pag kinakausap niya) and he was going to
clean up the Curia. Pope John Paul I was said to have died a horrible death from crude poisoning. Vatican was on the verge of disintegration when Karol Wotyla became Pope John Paul II. It was said the Cardinal bagman became his close in security.

    Pechanco continues:

These devil’s disciples will always be part of us, part of our lives. Religion is the opium of the masses sabi ni Karl Marx. Mali si Karl Marx sa Tsina. There opium is the reward for Hard work and frugality, the ultimate high of retirement. Opium has nothing to do with religious panloloko.

while i agree with you that we cannot change the kind of people running the government overnight, as if magic, still we have to start somewhere. and there wont be any sensible beginning if we don’t start with the those in the highest echelons starting with the president who stands accused of engaging in massive cheating, outright & barefaced lying, & brazen stealing via her acts of omissions & commissions. para matanggal ang kanser, zero in with the source. if the other stealing bureaucrats see that even the highest official of the land can be made to account for his or her sins while in office, then perhaps they will think twice before engaging in shenanigans. and if we follow your suggestion to let gloria finish her term (granting that she really WON the last presidential elections) before judging her rule, baka wala ng pilipinas nun kasi ginawa ng collateral sa mga utang ng pinas.
