Arroyo pleads for support

Are you going to heed her appeal for support?

by Jocelyn Montemayor

In the light of an expected backlash from
the conviction of President Joseph Estrada for plunder, President Arroyo Wednesday night called on public and private leaders in positions of responsibility to stand by her.

“I am bound and determined to captain a steady ship,” she said at the launch of the forum for peace attended by Christian bishops, Muslim ulamas (preachers) and military and police officials in Malacañang.

Arroyo reiterated the people deserve a stable government and economic progress.

“The people are concerned about maintaining peace, order and stability,” she said.

The Presidential Security Group (PSG) lifted its red alert status yesterday afternoon.

Some 400 policemen were sent back to their mother units in Central Luzon and the Cordillera Administration Regions.

PSG commander Brig. Gen. Romulo Prestoza said the container vans, steel bars and barbed wires placed in all the streets leading to and out of the Malacañang complex have been removed.

The alert level was raised around Malacañang in anticipation of rallies, including possible attacks from supporters of Estrada.

Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro said he does not foresee a destabilization move in the aftermath of the guilty verdict on Estrada.

“Well, all the military establishment and the whole government, we have to accept the judgment of the court and the rule of law. All of us in the executive branch and the Armed Forces accept that judgment,” he said.

Teodoro said his visit to the Army headquarters was not a loyalty check. “I’m sure they are professional and they are loyal to the chain of command,” he said.

On whether the verdict would heighten destabilization moves against the government, he said: “To me, I make no assessment on whether it will heighten tensions. Just suffice it to say, we are prepared for any eventuality.”

Teodoro discounted rumors that there is an ongoing recruitment of soldiers, specifically from the Army, for destabilization. “We have not monitored anything.” – With Victor Reyes

“I am bound and determined to captain a steady ship,”

Maybe she’s pleading for “supot” not support. Her cabinet and the rest of her handpicked officials are all supot.

Now that Erap has been convicted and all his money got confiscated, wala nang makikinabang sa kanya. Other than his personal endorsement, Erap has nothing to contribute to the politicians running in 2010. From now on, those who don’t change and continue to support him are his true friends.

  6. pechanco pechanco

I meant “tunay na kaibigan”. Friends are many but the genuine are few. To Erap, what we can promise him is that we here in Ellenville will remain to be his true friends and supporters.

What support? The Filipino people are tired with her lies and double talk. M/V Gloria is fast sinking. Help or support is useless. General Assperon can give his ‘supot’ at all times.

Off topic: Mabuti pa si Joma, set free na, even if it is temporary. Yung mga “men of honor” nandun naka detain pa rin! Justice Filipino style talaga…stall, stall, stall! Justice delayed is justice denied.

Heh,heh, heh…

  10. “Are you going to heed her appeal for support?”

    With pleasure Ellen!

I will heed her appeal for support – will provide her with all the support she needs to throw herself overboard while she’s sailing on shark-infested waters!

Yes, Gloria! I will support you to end all these madness!!!

  12. This creep has been asking Filipinos a lot of things that they should by all means deny her because she is nothing but a CRIMINAL raging a reign of terror from day one she grabbed power from the duly elected president she now has managed to convict. No thanks to the stooges she has managed to appoint and place in positions in agencies most responsible in fact to convict more notorious criminals like her.

The decision in fact is in the hands of Filipinos now. They should no longer tolerate this nincompoop who has stolen from the Filipinos their pride and dignity by making them as objects she thinks she can discard that easy or sell overseas as part of some scheme to rid the country of those likely to oppose and block her plan to make herself queen and declare the Philippines as her personal property.

Filipinos should not allow this creep to abuse further. They should lock her and her cohorts in jail or mental hospital for they surely are suffering from some illusion of grandeur caused by too much greed and ambition.

God willing they will will the courage to do what they should have done long ago—remove the feign!!!

  13. PSB:

I’m no fan of Joma but his being set free by the Dutch authorities, who must have been given wrong information and dossier, should be welcome by Filipinos, for he has no right to be tried or punished in Netherlands for crimes he is said to have committed in the Philippines. It is beyond the jurisdiction of the Dutch government to do that, or it can be construed as infringement in Philippine affairs and sovereignty.

In fact, what the Dutch could have done is deport or turn him over to the Interpol and have him turned over to the Philippine police so he can have his trial in the Philippines, but that I guess Joma would not want to happen knowing the kind of courts the Philippines has, and like Erap, he surely cannot expect to be given a fair trial and judgment, for under the piggy criminal, it is more like the Mafia mob getting rid of another criminal, guilty or not!

ASIDE FROM HER CORRUPT & SHAMELESS FAMILY, NO ONE GENUINELY LOVES HER!

  16. pechanco pechanco

What I find it strange is when Jinggoy said GMA is free to visit Erap in Tanay if she wants. Jinggoy further said that Erap is a forgiving person meaning Erap may still forgive GMA.
What’s Jinggoy talking about. Bakit iba ang tono niya ngayon?
Porke ba nakalaya na siya? I’m very concerned with Jinggoy’s statements and actuations lately.

  17. Luz,

“ASIDE FROM HER CORRUPT & SHAMELESS FAMILY, NO ONE GENUINELY LOVES HER!”

What about Esperon? Just look at the list of acts to show Gloria how much he loves her: am sure he intimidated people, carried cash to pay off, helped steal votes.

Esperon fabricated charges against the best officers of the armies, he falsified evidences against them, he tortured men of honour, their familes, took the fathers away from their children, then to show that he loves her immensely, is now destroying the military institution even if it means being an absolute coward for (refusing to fight with the bandits in the south)…and most of all, prepared to murder Filipinos for her (witness the readying of the armies in case of restiveness during the Estrada verdict affair).

Whoa, if that ain’t love, don’t know what is… it might be the love of a dog for his master, but boy, that’s still called love.

    Heh!

  18. Pechanco,

Kung totoo yan, (means his father is prepared to forgive the punggok), there’s nothing we can do. Sorry, if that happens, then that’s a family that’s not worth fighting for.

Kung totoo yan, sabi nga walang dignidad…

  19. Tongue,

Thanks for the BBC article.

Less than five feet want to captain the ship? We were dead before the ship even sank. She could not even sail to Basilan on the kumpit, how much more the Titanic, the largest and most luxurious ship in the world. It was designed to be unsinkable, with a double hull and fifteen watertight doors that, in case of an accident, could be closed almost instantaneously to seal off the ship’s compartments and keep her afloat. I will not be happy about being on her ship.

The M/V ARORO no way Paisano! The food are bad, the bed are hard and the crew were high on coke,.funny thing though on her ship is the kubeta, it looks like a golden arinola, bowl have several buttons, button for anal wide nozzle, button for dryer, button for massage, button for wax and a button for polish, aside from those sophisticated technology the computer engineer did not include a button for hand wash. The toilet was program by ZTE Broadband computer programmer, a token is needed to open the door, like buying an LRT tickets. M/V ARORO token machine only accept a hundred dollar bill not like the toilet in public school at San Pedro ihi-dos pesos, isbo-singko pesos.

Her ship is sinkable, they corrupted the budget on the construction. Abalos and Bedol were the chief engineer. Dagdag Bawas ang specs sa blueprint.

    Yuko,
He will spend the rest of his days in Tanay, believe me.

Like lost time, missed opportunity never returns. At his inaugural, Estrada perorated, in cadenced prose ghost-written by Teodoro Locsin Jr., his flubbed chance: “This time, things will be different. What wealth will be generated will be equitably shared. What sacrifices are demanded will be evenly carried. This much I promise: for every sacrifice you carry, I will carry twice the weight to make freedom more meaningful.”

“My promises are made to be fulfilled in a working day,” he added. “They are hopes of ordinary Filipinos like myself… The common people have waited long enough for their day to come.

“That day is here. Now, power is with the people. One of their own has made it.”

He never made it. Instead, he failed to deliver. “Between 1997 and 2000, overall poverty increased from 25.1 percent to 27.5 percent,” the Philippine Human Development Report notes. “There were an estimated 3.3 million more poor Filipinos in 2000 than there were in 1997.”

Worse, “5K government” dominated: “kamag-anak” [relatives], “kaibigan” [friends], “kaklase” [classmates], “kumpadre” [bosom buddy] — and “kabit” [mistresses]. Dante Ang, Jaime Dichavez, Yolanda Ricaforte, Cecilia de Castro were his regime’s version of Ms Arroyo’s Joc-Joc Bolante, Virgilio Garcillano et al. They skipped town without leaving forwarding addresses.

Barely a third into its six-year term, a drunken corrupt-to-the-core Estrada regime was booted out by People Power II. He became the first Philippine president to be impeached.

The “Wowowee” tragedy, however, showed that show biz remains the opiate for many Filipinos. This is a nation where half of those between seven and 21 years don’t read even comics. “Will stardust from a movie icon blind an impoverished half-educated electorate and enable (him) to crawl back to power?” the Cebu Daily News asked.

Estrada II would inflict more of the same pummeling. It would prove our critics right: we, Filipinos, are gluttons for punishment.

    DinaPinoy,
Basahin mo ng buo bago ka magcomment.

    Some highlights:

In any event, I had already begun looking at stories about Marcos gold with a great deal more interest. I was also struck by the fact that of all the certificates in the possession of Dr. Damanik accessed by Johnston, the oldest was a gold certificate in the name of Ferdinand Marcos. This was dated 9 September 1956 and was for a “deposit” of 7,120 metric tonnes of AU issued by Swiss Bank Corporation (Schweizerische Bank Gesellschaft M.H.C.). This was some years before Marcos was elected as a senator and years before climbing his way to the presidency of the Philippines

    Eto pa:

A Filipino newspaper, The Inquirer, featured an article published in 1998 entitled “Soldiers of Fortune” revealing that 96 members of the 16th Infantry Battalion had signed a joint affidavit declaring that, together with members of the 51st Engineering Brigade, they had — between 1973 and 1985 — recovered over 60,000 metric tonnes of gold from thirty out of 172 Japanese treasure sites.

    And:

Curtis also had some notes written by hand by Edward Lansdale, who he says typifies an “early player and mover” and who was also involved in the China deal. The Trilateral Commission reference, Curtis told me, regards a letter (in the possession of Curtis) that was sent to President Marcos on Trilateral notepaper – on the authority of Dr. Henry Kissinger – demanding that Marcos sell “63, 321 tons of gold to 2000 US and European banks admittedly controlled by the Trilateral.” This letter was dated 21 February 1986. Curtis adds that the last sentence of the 12 page letter states:

“Release the 62,321 metric tons of gold now, while your are in a solid possession and right and you alone can do it and alone can claim immortal glory as the greatest man in Asia.”

According to Curtis, it was Marcos’s refusal that led to his loss of power three days later. The gold that Marcos refused to sell – in exchange for US Treasury certificates and some cash — was eventually shipped to the US aboard the US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier “President Eisenhower,” having been later “released” by Imelda Marcos, who was avoiding pursuit for criminal charges when she fled the Philippines with her husband. Curtis notes that President Reagan wanted the gold for the “Rainbow Dollars” that had already been printed and that Reagan planned to back with gold.

Kulangot kung tutuusin dahil ang pinag-uusapan Hundreds of Trillions of dollars.

Rose, the self-designation of Ate Glue as Captain (or Master in maritime parlance) of the Ship (of State) is a figure of speech, a metaphor probably picked up from William Ernest Henley’s Invictus:
“Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
    Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.”
SOS is also maritime jargon telegraphed as distress signal in Morse Code (for simplicity and ease of transmission – 3 dots, 3 dashes and 3 dots) but passé. The modern version is MAYDAY adopted from French m’aide (help me). You did not hear the screams of m’aide?

    Books
It says much about this subject that perhaps the most reliable ‘sources’ are fictional …

Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson (Arrow, 2000) £8.99
This SF novel zooms all over the world, careening back and forth between two time periods – World War II and the present. Our 1940s heroes are a brilliant mathematician and a gung-ho, morphine-addicted marine. They’re part of Detachment 2702, an Allied group trying to break Axis communication codes while simultaneously preventing the enemy from figuring out that their codes have been broken. All of this secrecy resonates in the present-day story line, in which the grandchildren of the World War II heroes team up to help create an offshore data haven in South-east Asia and uncover some of Yamashita’s gold.

Yamashita’s Gold by Tate Holt (Berkeley Hills Books, 1998). US edition only; may be available from online bookshops.
‘A trillion dollars in gold and precious artefacts – the greatest fortune ever amassed in the history of mankind – this is the force that drives this “business thriller”, which blurs the line between fact and fiction.’ A quest for treasure plundered from Asia’s temples and reportedly hidden in the jungles of the Philippines by Japanese general Tomoyuki Yamashita brings together an entrepreneur, a professional treasure hunter and a Philippine business man in a story of greed and violence.

Old Soldiers Sometimes Lie: What happened to Hirohito’s gold by Richard Hoyt (St Martin’s Press, 2002). US edition only; may be available from online bookshops. On 14 November 1947, two years after the war, General Douglas MacArthur met in private with Emperor Hirohito. They spoke for 90 minutes. To this day, there is no official record of what was discussed. Over five decades ago, MacArthur permitted General Tomoyuki Yamashita to be executed for alleged war crimes. Now, in this novel, Yamashita’s granddaughter is determined to clear his name, even if it means unravelling a web of deceit and corruption that may stretch back to the Emperor himself – and a secret pact between Hirohito and MacArthur.

The Yamato Dynasty: The secret history of Japan’s imperial family by Sterling and Peggy Seagrave (Corgi, 2000) £7.99
This book brings to light new evidence that points to the implicit involvement of Hirohito and other members of the imperial family’s inner circle in the war crimes of World War II. It also reveals for the first time the full scale of Golden Lily, the looting operation that removed many billions of dollars’ worth of gold, platinum, diamonds, art, religious artefacts and other treasures from a dozen occupied countries during the war, and the fate of these hidden assets after 1945.

Asian Loot: Unearthing the secrets of Marcos, Yamashita and the gold by Charles C McDougald (San Francisco Publishers, 1993). US edition only; may be available from online bookshops.
By the writer/treasure hunter interviewed in the documentary.

The Philippines under Japan: Occupation policy and reaction, co-edited by Ikehata Setsuho and Ricardo Trota Jose (Ateneo de Manila University Press/University of Hawaii Press, 2000). US edition only; may be available from online bookshops. This book about the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, written by Japanese scholars and a Filipino, attempts to provide the Japanese point of view, presenting new perspectives of the occupation based on Japanese and other hitherto unused primary sources.

Neonate: Thanks. Ang bilis nga nang paglubog ng Pilipinas but according to Hookway of the Wall Street Journal–fast recovery daw dahil kay GMA. Kung fast recovery how come she is asking for help? from whom? BTW “Invictus” was not my poem. Hindi kasi ako forceful.. My father made us memorize and recite poems and the captive audience naman were his relatives..Invictus and Friends, Romans Countrymen were for my brothers. “Be the Best of Whatever you are” was my sister’s and mine was I Shot an Arrow Into the Air..

Isaac H: are you from Antique too? And in NJ? Ellen has my email address..just ask it from her..If you are from Sibalom or San Remigio basi pariente ko pa ikaw..

Isaac: sorry hindi ako marunong magtext.

  62. chi chi

    Rose,

Do you know that Gloria created an International Media Bureau to sell her anew?! Meron nga ba Ellen? Nabasa ko, don’t remember what paper.

Baka si Hookway ay unang natapalan! Wall Street Journal is biased to economists kahit peke tulad ni Gloria.

Recovery? Why, when did Pinas achieve economic progress under the ‘economissed’ Gloria?

Better for Hookway to come and research the truth about Pinas economy, and not rely on the drawings of Teves!

bullshit to gloria. granted the pinoys are tired of people power, there should be another way of ousting this tiny girl with a big appetite from her pedestal…

Rose, thank you. Sa nakikita namin titino ang Philippine government kung ang Filipino-American citizens and taxpayers will call the attention of their congressmen to relay the message to President Bush. It may or may not be possible but its worth trying. So iyon ang idea. Thank you.

  65. Anna: Heheheh! In an ideal world, if the OFWs were a cult group, they would have bought their own president long time ago – just like the neo-cons have bought theirs.

Hopefully, something will come out of the lawsuit about his fraudulent prayer rallies. Pero kasabwat diyan iyong mga paring katoliko na takot na takot na mawala daw ang mga tao na nahihilig sa grupo ni Velarde who actually moves as a cult within an established religion para daw manatiling katoliko iyong mga katoliko calling themselves as “El Shaddai.” If this is not a deception, what is?

“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” (Matt. 24: 11)

“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” (Matt. 24:24)

  66. Chi: Do you know that Gloria created an International Media Bureau to sell her anew?! Meron nga ba Ellen? Nabasa ko, don’t remember what paper.

Asawa niya ang pakulo niyan. Remember what I wrote about the lobby group that now operates in the US, Australia and Manila? Kaya sumama iyong mataba sa Sydney. May office sila doon.

I understand from my source that it is headed by IpDyi. Kaya dapat binabantayan iyan ng mga pilipino. Dito sa Japan, bantay sarado kami para ipasibak if we see something anomalous na puedeng pasukan ng mga authorities.

  67. The gunggonzales undergoing a kidney transplant?

    Diyos mahabagin!

“What progress, Ellen? Punta ka sa Tondo, or even Payatas, ang daming pilipino still using uling or firewood for cooking, ”

    Yuko,

Totoo yan.

  69. rose rose

Luz: Sa Antique..many still use uling..kasi ang electricity not only is it expensive but we only have from 6:00pm to 6:am. They still use flat iron..At it is not unusual na ang rice is mixed with corn; or rice cooked with camote..And palayok ang ginagamit sa pagluto..

  70. rose rose

Isaac: that is indeed a good idea..unfortunately, however, hindi united ang Filipinos. Here JC, kanya kanya..I am a chartered member of the NAFAA..but I have not attended the
meetings lately..kung dito lang sa tabi tabi like DC, PA I don’t mind going…but farther than that..ayaw ko. At any rate we tried getting the Filipinos united but we failed kaya we don’t have a political clout..other ethnic groups like the Indians, Koreans, they are courted by politicians.Ang mga mayayaman na Filipinos..with businesses in the Phil. pro GMA or anybody incumbent..we have the Iloilo Society of America, purely for scholarships..but we can ask the individual members..let’s give it a try..incidentally, three years back siraulo graced a meeting
of ISA.. does Ellen have your email?..I can get it from her.

  71. rose rose

Isaac: I know most of the members of ISA..have been an officer since inception..23 years ago..at most of the officers are my compadre/comadre..I can link with your other friends and we can form a group…

  72. Isaac H Isaac H

In 2006, the US Congress has 436 members – 233 Democrats, 202 Republican and 1 Independent and the Senate 100 members – 49 each party and 2 independent. Ang mga states na maraming Pinoy are California 53 districts, Texas 32, Florida 25, Illinois 19, New Jersey & Georgia 13 each, Penn 19 and Michigan 15. Ako hindi man puede gumawa Canadian ako. I will call you. TY.

  73. rose rose

Isaac: We had done writing our Congressmen and letting them know..on other issues like abortion, etc. We prepared the message in stamped postcard and ask people to sign & mail. But they are not all Filipinos.Ang problema dito sa JC many do not want to be bothered politically..either TNT, NPA or just don’t want to. The younger ones, however, are getting to be involved..May I ask Ellen for your email? We have a NAFAA org initiated by Loida Lewis and they have tried, still trying to get the Filipinos politically united to have a political clout.

  74. Isaac H Isaac H

Rose: Thank you. Para sumulat sa members of US Congress, go to: http://www.House.gov/writerep/, then click the State and type zip code. Temporarily, please send your email here tvencer@ hotmail.com. Thank you.
