‘Hello Garci’ connection

Last Friday, while former military agent T/Sgt Vidal Doble at the Senate was recounting live before TV viewers efforts of persons close to Gloria Arroyo to hide the truth in “Hello Garci” scandal, Army Capt. Ruben Guinolbay was making a statement related also to the cheating in the 2004 elections, but under the most restrictive media coverage.

cpt1guinolbay2.jpgIt was Guinolbay’s turn to exercise his peremptory challenge on any member of the panel presiding in the special general court martial for the 28 military officers who had allegedly planned to withdraw support from a “bogus president” in February 2004.

But before exercising his right to peremptory challenge, Guinolbay asked and was granted two minutes to make a statement.

The young officer, known as the “hero of Lamitan” for his courageous battle against the Abu Sayyaf in June 2001, said it was the first time that he got near a microphone since the start of the trial almost a year ago.

He said, dutifully as soldiers, he and his fellow officers submitted to the legal process. “We are willing to bite the bullet to preserve democratic institutions,” he said, adding that much to their dismay, all that they hear from the panel as they assert their rights had been “denied, denied, denied.” The trial, he further said, “is being orchestrated by just one man.”

He said he doesn’t want the trial to go down to the level “that we would be ashamed of as soldiers.”

Then he delivered his devastating message: “You and I know that this trial came about when some officers raised their voices against the institution being used by politicians.”

Suddenly every one in the court room recalled the conversation between Gloria Arroyo and Comelec commissioner Virgilio Garcillano when the latter was complaining that the election returns and the statement of votes didn’t match because “Kasi sila Gen. Habacon, hindi pa masyadong marunong diyan.” (Because Gen. Habacon and his men are not good at doing it.)

There was also that conversation on the evening May 28, 2004 when Arroyo asked Garcillano about the problem with the military in Marawi. Garcillano replied that (Brig. Gen Francisco) Gudani was not theirs. “I have to work with Gen. Esperon and Gen. Kyamko.”

capt-langkit.JPGThe name of AFP chief Hermogenes Esperon was mentioned when it was the turn of Capt. Dante Langkit to exercise his right of peremptory challenge. He asked and was granted a few minutes to say his piece.

Langkit, who once was Esperon’s aide-de-camp, said he took note of the chief of staff’s statement that the “full force of the law would be applied to those who undermine or destabilize the government.”

“Let us not have the pretension that we are observing the law,” Langkit told the panel.

Langkit recounted his capture on April 2, 2006 in Quezon City by military personnel in civilian attire. He said he was blindfolded and pinned to the floor of the van. He was later made to sit on a bench for 48 hours without sleep.

He asked the officer who was interrogating him how he could do that to him and the guy could not look at him in the eye.

“Justice does not only apply to the decision but must also apply while we are in the process of obtaining it,” said the personable officer who is still detained at the ISG compound in Fort Bonifacio, separate from the rest of the 27 other accused who are in Camp Capinpin.

Military sources said of all the 28 accused, Esperon is most hurt by the participation of three junior officers: Guinolbay, Langkit and Capt. Montano Almodovar. Like Langkit, Almodovar was also formerly aide to Esperon. Guinolbay was with Esperon in Mindanao.

“Esperon resented it that the three junior officers sided with (Brig. Gen. ) Danny Lim,” the source said.

Esperon met with each of the three officers separately and the common question he asked was, “Do you still believe that I was involved in the “Hello Garci?” If Esperon had asked that question because he wanted to hear them clear him, he was wrong. The officers had the same answer: “It’s only you who knows that.”

There are others who know about the role of Gloria’s generals in the tampering of the 2004 election results. Doble’s Senate appearance might just trigger the uncovering of the truth that could lead to justice that Guinolbay and Langkit are hoping for.

The nerve of the Ass to ask “..the three officers.., “Do you still believe that I was involved in the “Hello Garci?””

Eggs should be thrown at his face. That should answer his question !

Mrs. Gloria Pidal Arroyo is the problem. The July 27, 2003 Oakwood incident and the February 24, 2006 alleged coup have common denominator: massive corruption and highly questionable GMA mandate. The former military aides of AFP chief Esperon may have the knowledge on his skeletons in the closet particularly the Hello Garci scam. The legitimacy of the Arroyo presidency is interconnected with 2001 coup d’état and Hello Garci 2004 election fraud.

Gloria Arroyo and her cohorts have insulted and fooled the Filipino people with web of never ending lies. The Hello Garci political scam is connected with Joc-Joc Bolante’s fertilizer scam likewise with Comelec chief Abalos’ ZTE broadband scam. Abalos’ last hurrah from China’s ZTE multi-million $ bribe is seen as payback for his election fraud role. Gloria must protect its own kind (crooks) for her own political survival. Tuloy ang ligaya ng mga kawatan. Dapat tapyasin na ang kanilang pinuno.

The military officer in civilian attire who made Capt. Dante Langkit “kissed” the floor of the van and made him sit on the bench without sleep for 48 must be made to do the same.

I suppose that this sonamagan military officer was a member of Asspweron’s panel because Capt. Langkit was able to ask him how “he could do that to him”.

  4. chi chi

Gloria must be really scared especially these days when the good guys in the military she imprisoned seemed ready to fight her head-on, and clearly siding with the investigation of the “Hilo” Garci.

Mabuhay gentlemen, Doble needs your support in his goal to uncover the truth.

Walang ‘rule of law’ kapag ganitong sitwasyon o patakaran. Paaano kung wala na siya kapangyarihan? Di tamaan ng lintik ang kanyang tumbomg.

We’ve been offering prayers for the sake of TRUTH! We need to offer more for the triumph of JUSTICE! We should pray for the deliverance of TRUTH! It has been MALIGNED not only by our politicians, militaries but as we see now, obviously by some head of the church as well.

“Lord, bigyan mo na po ng kaukulang katapusan ang lahat ng mga ipinagkait sa buong Sambayanan! Amen!”

This is pure and simple vengeance on his part..he didn’t expect the response to be “its only you who knows”. Well, Gen. Esperon..what sayest thou? It is only you who knows..Officers Langkit, Guinolbay and Capt. Almodovar, May God give you the strength to keep the fight. Esperon may have his vengeance on you but God says “vengeance is mine”..He will grant justice to you all.
    ..Owatanassheis this Esperon.

  8. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

V for Assperon’s vengeance. The military tribunal- Esperon’s Kangaroo Court is dead on arrival. It’s a mockery of justice.

Over at the Senate, GMA’s pigs continue to defend her:

MANILA, Philippines — After ganging up on the ex-military intelligence agent who admitted leaking the “Hello Garci” tape, administration senators Sunday called for the scrapping of the Senate hearing on the wiretapping scandal until the opposition came up with a more credible witness than former T/Sgt. Vidal Doble Jr., formerly with the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP).

“As far as I’m concerned, there is no need for another hearing,” said Sen. Joker Arroyo, who had described Doble as a “polluted source” and a “perjured witness.”

Sen. Richard Gordon, another administration senator, wanted Doble jailed for perjuring himself after he changed his testimony at the House of Representatives (where he claimed he was not a wiretapper) and at the Court of Appeals (where he said he did not fear his ISAFP superiors), when he appeared at the Senate last Friday.

It appears hazing is still alive after March week well way far into the brigs where the plebian heroes thrive. At the rate they are doing, dadami ang monumento sa mga parks. I noticed the medals ni Esperon, mga ilan kaya ang bigay ng amo niya? Yung iba sa Recto siguro galing. Jan sila magaling.

    Chi,
your favorite Bishop, much that you want to lynch him, has led Doble to the culprit who manipulated him to “rescue” Doble from his partner, Samuel Ong. I told you he has been “very cooperative” lately and has denounced his being party in the EDSA power grab.

Should Enrile and his pack of mongrels insist on Bishop Villegas’ personal appearance, I guess it will be more damaging to their cause.

But I still agree with you that he has also to face the consequences of his obstructionist act. Penance before forgiveness, as he preaches.

Conversation between Gary (V. Garcillano) and unidentified female believed to be PGMA (Pres.Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) on 02 22:29 hotel June 2004

    Garcillano: Hello, ma’am. Good evening.
GMA: Hello.
    GMA: So nagmamatch?
Garcillano: Oho.
Tomorrow we will present the
official communication dun ho sa Senate. ‘Yung sinasabing wala hong laman ‘yung ballot box. Nareceive ho nila lahat eh.
    GMA: Oo, oo.
Garcillano: Tumawag ho kayo kanina ma’am?
GMA: Yeah, about that Lanao del Sur nga at tsaka Basilan.
About this, iaano
ko ho, huwag ho kayong masyadong mabahala. Anyway, we will take care of this. Kakausapin ko rin si Atty. Macalintal.
GMA: Oo.
Languyan.
    Garcillano: Sino ho?
GMA: ‘Yung kabila. May teacher daw silang hawak.
    GMA: Ok, ok. Thank you.

  17. If you take a look at the background of the Guinolbay’s photo, there’s a barbed wire. Last Friday the bright guys of Esperon ordered the setting up of barbed wires around the court house. That further fortified the wall between media and the accused.

  18. maarte maarte

Just like what they’re doing to Erap, these stupid bright guys are doing the same to the detained soldiers. The lesser the contact with media and the outside world, the better for Malacanang. I’m sure those hardened criminals in Bilibid Prison have more freedom.

  19. Thanks, Tongue, for the reminder. It’s what I am busy doing right now. Busy ako ng pag-burn ng copies ng Garci tapes in audio and text files for distribution sa mga pilipino sa Japan.

  20. Do they have to do those barbed-wiring, Ellen?

  29. Latest development:

Last night, part of the Gloria Arroyo and Esperon’s paranoia, among the accused who are in Fort Bonifacio for medical treatment were ordered to go back to Camp Capinpin. On their way there, the vehicle they were riding on caught fire. Some of the officers were hurt.

  30. Those who are in power are the ones who are paranoid. They are the ones who have the guns and the tanks.

And they are afraid of media and the officers who are in prison? They must be a miserable lot.

Isn’t obstruction of justice a crime? and hiding a fugitive? True during the Nazi war nagtago sila Maria doon sa Sound of Music sa convento pero that was different. Chi, wala tayong maaasahan sa Papa sa Roma. The Vatican has a policy to cover up the wrong doings of their priests. There are a lot more erring priests being protected than those being punished. In one place the Pope has recently visited (Austria), thousands of Catholics renounced their Catholic faith in protest against the Pope and the scandals within the Catholic Church. Church groups would not have proliferated if not because of the Catholic Church’s sins and scandals. Try asking other religious groups and they shall tell you that the Catholics are the easiest to convert these days. It’s just a follow up to the above posts.

The story of Capt Langkit is very very sad… he was in solitary confinement for ten whole months in a small room with a small hole just enough for a tray of food and a small window. Inside his room was a toilet with a toilet bowl and a faucet where he takes a bath. He had a bed, a ceiling fan and a bible.
When I heard about his story… I can not help but cry.. I really admire this young man for his endurance and strong convictions…
I first met him last Dec during the first court martial hearing. He was brought to Tanay blindfolded and hand cuffed. That was when he told Gen Miranda:” I MAY BE PHYSICALLY WEAK BUT MY SPIRIT IS STILL FIGHTING”. Gen Miranda can’t stop his tears… he was so touched by Capt Langkit’s words. That was the day that the fire in him was lit.

Capt Langkit’s salary was cut off and now he does not even have food if not from dole outs from friends and relatives.
Prisoners should be fed. There should be a budget for that, I know there is.. Even the convicted criminals in jail who killed or raped.. are being fed.
Gen Esperon wants to make it really hard for him because he wants Capt Langkit to surrender and turn state witness.

this was the biggest mistake men of honor did in their fight for justice believing they will go through due process to prove their innocence and bring the truth out. they had forgotten that since day one in power of the bogus administration there was nothing in mind of the cheat, liar and usurper press-ident but wipe out anyone who poses threat to her greed. it did not come into their minds that gloria’s band of goons will do everything to move mountains just to protect their mutual objective – to clip the law and put everything under their control.

should the events be repeated and in order to ensure that charged suspected nemesis of the insensitive leadership get fair treatment, the men of honor must first snatch gloria’s rabid protectors like bunye, esPWEron, the two gonzalezes, ermita, claudio, apostol and abalos, shoot them in the head and strap their dead bodies with explosives that will set off once touched by anyone who would dare retrieve them.

it must be committed to everyone’s memory that no amount of trust, respect and civility could transform the demons housed in malakanyang into civilized people. they will remain as they are – ravenous devils.

to contain them, one must play their game!

we do not need another birth of gloria and her minions to correct the harm they have done against our country and people.

  44. Ellen,

“Capt Langkit’s salary was cut off and now he does not even have food if not from dole outs from friends and relatives.”

Why is Esperon doing this to a meritorious officer – one who has not been pronounced guilty yet?

Military law may be harsh, harsher than in the civil sector but like in the civil sector, an accused is still is just an accused and should be accorded humane treatment in all aspects.

Capt Langkit is NOT a an al-qaeda terrorist, why should he be handcuffed and blindfolded? Besides, where does Esperon think he is? On Guantanamo Bay?

Ellen, this cannot be – I will ask someone I know to contact Capt Langkit’s family and to give a bit of money on my behalf and that of my family.

This sort of treatment is done to people who murder your families, your women and your children BUT CERTAINLY NOT to one who would die so your children and loved ones may sleep soundly at night!

  47. Anna, Capt. Langkit is not alone in that situation. At the ISG , without salary, are Magdalo officers Lieutenants Aldrin Baldonado and Sonny Sarmiento.

The situation of Baldonado and Sarmiento are worse because they have young families. Capt. Langkit is single.

    Esperon is heartless.

Anna, your help would really go a long way, not only materially but to make them feel that people believe in their cause.

  48. Oh my goodness me… why is Esperon doing this to our YOUNG – VERY YOUNG, bright and idealistic officers? Is he really hell bent on transforming our military into an institution of warped and corrupt officers for the future?

One of the role of a CSAFP is to ensure the continuity of a idealism-driven military and to encourage the young, bright and courageous officers to take that road.

    What are they doing?

Ellen, I’ve just phoned someone I know and told him that I’m sending a little amount by Western Union to give to Capt Langkit’s family so he could buy food and vitamins.

I will call him again to say that I’m putting a lil bit more for the families of Baldonado and Sarmiento. May not be much but this is to show them, as you say, that people believe in their cause and that they must NOT BE DISCOURAGED for if they are, then all is lost.

I do hope some of our kababayans who read your blog can do something even if only to send a few goodies.

What I’d like to know Ellen is if these officers are allowed to receive Balikbayan boxes (in time for Christmas?), otherwise, perhaps, I could send a box through you?

  49. Anna, Capt. Langkit, Lieutenants Baldonado and Sarmiento are detained at ISAFP compound. I don’t think they can receive Balikbayan box there.

But it can be sent to their families.Mrs. Sarmiento, I think, is in one of the towns near Metro Manila but Mrs. Baldonado is in General santos, if I’m not wrong. The last time ALdrin Baldonado was visited by the wife was last December. Walang pamasahe sa eroplano. I was told he has lost a lot of weight.

Dante’s family is in Kalinga, Apayao.

Their inhuman situation is Esperon’s way of pressuring them to turn against their colleagues. In teh case of Baldonado and Sarmiento, Esepron wants them to turn against Sen. Trillanes.

For Capt. Langkit, Esperon wants him to turn againt Gen. Danny Lim.

  50. Ellen,

“For Capt. Langkit, Esperon wants him to turn againt Gen. Danny Lim.”

In light of this, all the more reason why Esperon must fail. We must show Capt Langkit that he has the support of the people in words and in action.

It would be good if some people reading this blog could send him a token of their appreciation for his remaining the HERO OF LAMITAN and more so as the ANTI-ESPERON HERO.

If we lose Capt Langkit and our other young heroes, all is lost for this country.

  51. I have goose pimples just typing this message.

May God have mercy on Esperon when the reckonning begins!

  52. I do believe heroes deserve to be recognized as heroes while they are alive and not only when they are dead!

Captain Langkit is a hero, let’s show him we recognize him as a hero not only in Lamitan but because he continues to show true courage and bravery beyond the call of duty.

  53. Anna, it’s Capt. Guinolbay who is the hero of Lamitan.

Capt. Guinolbay is detained in Camp Capinpin.

  54. Darn! Thanks Ellen for correcting. I get all so muddled up by the names of the young uns because I don’t know them personally…

Just reading Marine Wifes’ comments, as well as Ms. Ellens’ & Anas’, gives me goose bumps, actually it made me cry !!!!!!!

Despite this, hard as it may seem, this “darkness” that these soldiers are experiencing will not last. They will be triumphant in God’s time.

Let’s do what we can for them, because nobody deserves to be treated inhumanely !

as long as Gino will continue to stand to what he believes in,he will never go astray.he is a very principled man as well as a very dutiful son to his parents, this i know very well.what he is going through right now is too much for him,but this will never dampen his spirit.a fighter and a survivor that he is,he will overcome this ordeal w/ his integrity intact.so w/ the other detained military officers, just hold on & fight a good fight!!..

  57. Gino is Capt. Ruben Guinolbay.

Boxy, you are right to be proud of your friend. We admire and love him.

Langkit.

“I MAY BE PHYSICALLY WEAK BUT MY SPIRIT IS STILL FIGHTING”.

So brave, so courageous, so noble.!

maam ellen, you are right about it.im so proud to have known him up close & personal.its just sad that he is being locked up against his will among w/ the other soldiers.but i know he will get through it.as they always say,you can never put a good man down.btw, gino told me before to check in the internet about this court martial hearing.i found your site in google.com

  60. In the report of Victor Reyes in Malaya, “Madame Wetness” Sergio Apostol was quoted as having said,”We are giving these soldiers all the benefits and counsel that’s needed to proceed with their trial.

“In fact we’re even lax on them that we give them access to the press. Hindi naman sila inaapi”

    Gusto ko siyang batukan!

The Truth and the Facts, about assassination of Fernando Poe Jr. has connection to the “Hello Garci” scandal.

The Arroyo Administrator hired an international intelligence agent to kill Poe before the Hello Garci scandal comes out in the public. Poe was poisoned to death using a nerve agent, which caused a chemical reaction that resulted in blood clotting that led to a fatal stroke and can’t be traced during the autopsy procedures. And its not true that Fernando Poe jr. died because of heart attack.

  62. cg_pinas cg_pinas

Gloria Arroyo a fake president said to the public “I’m sorry” because she can’t sleep about the conspiracy of Fernando Poe Jr.’s death. Now its very obvious that she can’t move on to make Philippines a great nation because she is guilty for what happened.

  63. cg-pinas, huwag nyo ho i-capitalize ang mga words sa sentence nyo.I edited your comments. Please take note.

Remember, FPJ once said that, when elected, he’ll move for the renegotiation of our Foreign Debt, and even use the words “debt moratorium”.

I guess this is one of the prime reasons why they murdered him.

    Ms. Ellen:

If you take a look at the background of the Guinolbay’s photo, there’s a barbed wire. Last Friday the bright guys of Esperon ordered the setting up of barbed wires around the court house. That further fortified the wall between media and the accused.

*Are you saying you think FPJ was murdered. Someone once told me this too. Malakas daw siya at walang sakit even at the time na may party doon sa FPJ studio. But the suspects would be those around him like Escudero. During the campaign, some bad guys could have slowly poisoned him. His death could be considered similar to the mysterious death of Bruce Lee, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and many others.

Ellen, dont forget that among the Magdalo, Capt. Nicanor Faeldon also had his salary cut off. In fact, cutting off of salaries is disallowed by the Court Martial proceedings. The Articles of War provide that salaries for officers are never cut off for the duration of trial, but salaries of enlisted men may be withheld. It is only after they have been found guilty that such a salary removal is allowed.
Despite all these set backs, the likes of Capts. Faeldon and Langkit are still focused on fighting for their country.

  69. klingon klingon

Furthermore, even if salaries have been removed, there is a subsistence allowance that can not be taken away, as this provides for the food of the officer. I know for a fact that even this subsistence allowance has been cut from Cpts. Langkit and Faeldon. This means they must rely on the kindness of family and strangers even for their food. This is so basic, that even the likes of Esperon ought to understand this. Violation ito ng human rights. They really want these men to die.

  70. Yes, Klingon, Capt. Faeldon is another highly principled officer.
