Public sentiment is overwhelmingly in favor of former President Estrada.
That’s the reason why Gloria Arroyo and her minions are panicking over possible public reaction on the Sandiganbyan’s verdict on Estrada’s plunder case.
Survey conducted by Social Weather Station last month showed that a high number in Greater Metro Manila do not want Estrada going to jail.
SWS asked the following questions:
1.President Arroyo has the power to grant pardon to whoever is convicted of a crime. In case the Sandigan declares Erap guilty of plunder, when should Arroyo pardon him?
Answer: 48% immediately; 38% pardon after some time;13 % not pardon.
Those who said “immediately”, 31 % from the ABC class; 47% from D; and 58 percent from E class.
2.In case the Sandigan declares Erap guilty of plunder, how many years should he serve his sentence?
Answer: 19%-one year or less; 10% – two years; 8% – three years; 4% – four years; 9% – five years; 8% – six years; 1% – 7 – 9 years; 11% – 10 years; 3% -over 10 years.
There were 13% who said he should be set free already and 4% that he be jailed for life.
3.In case the Sandigan declares Erap guilty of plunder, should he be jailed in Muntinlupa or remain in Tanay?
Answer: 82% – remain in Tanay
16% – sent to Muntinlupa
The survey, titled “Theodore” had 600 respondents in the National Capital region, Bulacan, Casvite, Laguna and Rizal.

As far as evidences prove, Erap is most probably guilty of bribery, not plunder for there has been no proof that he has looted the national treasury to deposit in foreign banks unlike what Cayetano has yet to revea.
Erap is even short of admitting that he has received contributions from jueteng lord, Chavit Singson, that can be categorized as a bribe even when it is a common tradition for jueteng lords to pay the Malacanang occupants a share of their earnings.
It is no secret in fact that Erap has been diverting these funds to his charitable foundations, even to one benefitting the Moslems in Mindanao for which one of his lawyers was incarcerated and threatened of being disbarred.
If that is not injustice, what is?
If Erap is guilty, he deserves to be imprisoned. But they should do the same to the Malacanang squatters, who have committed much more diabolical crimes against the Filipino people from treason, sedition, plunder to the murder and massacre of brave men in uniform. There should not be any exemption to the rule. A criminal is a criminal and he/she should be punished regardless of stature or position in the government.

Even when she is given a life sentence, it can be commuted to a lesser sentence, you know, and she can be pardoned by some presidential clemency. Metro Manilans are the ones who are close to where the action is and they closely followed the case of Erap and if he still remains popular, it is because they believed that he is not guilty as charged, but persecuted. This bogus government formed this special court specifically to try and convict him.
Erap’s case is political. That put Gloria in a catch 22 situation, damn if she does and damn if she doesn’t. If Erap is acquitted, her illegitimacy will be more pronounced. If he is found guilty, people will think that he is persecuted. If the court’s decision is based on evidence and witnesses, he will be acquitted. Can you imagine a case where you have a corrupt and criminal as a principal witness? What credibility he has to offer, if not outright lies. That alone is a goner. But if the court succumbs to pressure from malacanang and other interested parties, Erap will be found guilty. In such scenario the people will be more divided, his followers may resort to some actions and her bogus government will remain shaky and unstable. Of course we know that’s the reason why the military is deploying thousand of soldiers, including tanks and fighter planes in Metro Manila. Oh yes she again has to resort to more pampering and relying on the military and police to support her continued hang on to power. What a pathetic character!

The reason for the delays in the erap trial
i believe arroyo is planning to pardon erap after the guilty verdict is handed down. the admin delays in the erap trial (kontrolado ng administration ang speed ng trial, IMO) serves a purpose in lengthening erap’s detention, cuz once na pardon na si erap, parang naparusahan na rin siya dahil sa tagal ng house arrest niya. this is done to appease the remaining angry edsa dos supporters of hers of the idea of an erap pardon.
Believe that everything re Erap is in the hands of Gloria – no way it’s beyond her control!

Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales expressed opposition to the planned revival of the “Hello, Garci” probe, saying even events in the Bible would show that not all issues can have closure.

Ousted President Joseph Estrada is 70 years old. He is qualified in this executive clemency issued by Gloria. Erap is a freeman without the decision from the Sandiganbayan. Guilty verdict means death sentence for plunder case. Death penalty is abolished. In 2004, Philippine bogus President Gloria Arroyo had issued Memorandum Circular 155, which states: “It is the policy of the Arroyo administration to extend executive clemency to deserving elderly inmates out of compassion and based on humanitarian grounds.” In June 24, 2006, Gloria Arroyo signed legislation abolishing the death penalty as PR move on the eve of a visit to see Pope Benedict XVI.
Erap’s acceptance of the clemency will make Gloria a legitimate ruler. Wise ha!
And Mr. Guerrero, the whole thing was actually to keep Erap in jail so that Gloria could remain in power unhindered. Hindi nila nauto si Erap na umalis ng bansa kaya ang next option ay ikulong siya. If you recall, Erap was first charged of crimes that were bailable. Isa-isa niya nilaban ito at nag-bail. Tapos, ang kinaso sa kanya ay plunder para walang bail. While he’s on trial, he’s supposed to be in jail. Ngayon malapit na matapos ang termino ni Gloria, they think and decide it’s time to let him go.

Japan recently – some two weeks ago during the visit of Abe to KL – offered the financing of underwater cabling linking a remote island of Malaysia to the mainland. Amount of loan: US$ 2.5 billion. (Malaysia, by the way, needs that cable.)
Excellent terms to go with the loan but many Malaysians are wary because while they have not defaulted on payments on many of their loans, they don’t like to be saddled by so much debt and are debating the wisdom of incurring this Japanese loan again (Japan is one of their biggest creditors).
