Is this directed to her supposed allies who thinks she is a lame duck and are now eyeing to jump ship?

She envisions that the Philippines will be one of the rich countries in 20 years. “Hangarin kong mapabilang ang Pilipinas sa mayayamang bansa sa loob ng dalawampung taon.”
Does it mean she is staying in power for 20 more years to make sure that “vision” is realized?

And I may remind her to get there, she should respect the rights of every citizen, provide the basic education and health care and stop the forced disappearance of so many that in First World nation, One disappearance is one too many. The credibility of today’s SONA may be judged by looking back at last year’s SONA and comparing the current situation on the ground. Here’s my take:

Our reforms have earned us P1 billion from the U.S. Millennium Challenge Account for more investigators, prosecutors, and new technology to fight corruption. We are matching this with another billion from our fiscal savings.”
My take:
Well, terrorism is still here- and the spin? Funds alone are not enough. I am quite expectant that the same sentence will find its way to this year’s SONA. Just substitute funds with HSA.
May pondo na raw para labanan ang katiwalian. More investigators, prosecutors and new technology to fight corruption? We only managed to fight those who used to be above us in the rankings of Asia’s most corrupt governments. Guess what? This is probably the only fight Aling Gloria won. Now, nobody else is above the Philippines in terms of corruption in Asia.
SONA 2006:
“In the harshest possible terms I condemn political killings. We together stopped judicial executions with the abolition of the death penalty. We urge witnesses to come forward. Together we will stop extrajudicial executions.”
My take:
Between 26 June 2006, or two days after the 2006 SONA, and 17 July 2007, a full week before the 2007 SONA, 50 lives had already been lost extrajudicially. Who’s responsible? Was it the usual suspect? Aling Gloria did not leave anything to speculation:

My guess is that the Cha-Cha will again be floated even before I am back to work in September. But while the idea will be floated initially as a wild rumor (nobody would admit to it), real efforts at inciting people from the grassroots level into, at least, accepting Cha-Cha are already underway even as we speak (or write).
This government learns really fast when its survival and perpetuity is at stake. Last time around, they wanted Cha-Cha cooked hard and fast, and they failed. This time, they’ll cook it soft and slow. My hunch is that next year’s SONA will signal government’s open (and brazen) Cha-Cha advocacy. Thenceforth, all efforts at convincing stakeholders to view Cha-Cha as a necessity will be exhausted. Before 2008 is over, they would have the numbers, both in Congress and in surveys.
These are just wild guesses. But until then, there is no harm in remaining vigilant.
Ka Enchong, Cocoy: My crystal ball says December 2007. JdV’s push to pass the cheap medicine bill abandoned by his 13th Congress is a patronizing move to neutralize his marred image. Thereafter, he will act as Pied Piper luring the Cha-Cha procession headed by Ate Glue fawns in Congress.
If the melee in the opening session of the 14th Congress is any indication, the Congressional Railroad is careening as fast as ever. JdV and Ate Glue has the numbers NOW.

I concede, they already have the numbers NOW much as they had the numbers in December 2006, otherwise, JdV won’t be reelected speaker. What they need is support from the middle class down to the grassroots level. The moment they get SWS or Pulse Asia to say that their surveys reflect even just a little over 50% for Cha-Cha, yari na.

Cocoy, game not over, Ka Enchong has a point. …What they need is support from the middle class down to the grassroots level …This is hard to achieve considering the Pulse Asia graph shown by MLQ3 that the middle class has shrunk to only 10% of the population. (I suspect they are abroad masquerading as OFWs). No wonder the BIR had a collection problem. OFWs pay taxes but at a lower rate than home-bound payers, the impoverished have nothing to pay with, and the sidewalk vendors are too busy dodging demolition teams to go and pay.
Peking Duck has been given a new meaning, but is still a dead duck. I am eagerly awaiting the announcement.

I think, they’ll be cautious this time around. Even while they’re campaigning for Cha-Cha, such campaigns would be subtle. As I said, they’ll do it soft and slow. Even if JdV uses the Cheaper Medicine Bill to gain mileage, his reputation is so soiled it would take even tenfolds in terms of efforts just to make him look acceptable, at the most.
Napansin kolang, JdV is so good at coming up with adjectives when referring to other congressmen- so good that the adjectives sound more like the noun Tupperware. Tingin ko sa kanya ngayon, parang yung Tupperware bowl na may malaking tenga sa magkabilang dulo.
