Looks like the situation in the Senate has been salvaged for the Filipino people.
Despite the votes of administration senators that will make him retain the senate presidency, Manuel Villar is giving the major comittees to the opposition. The latest we heard is the important Blue Ribbon Committee will go to Alan Peter Cayetano.
Alan will make use of the position of General Counsel for the committee by appointing Adel Tamano, who competently served as spokesman for the Genuine Opposition.
I think it’s good enough. Better than if it went to Kiko “Noted” Pangilinan.
I heard Sen. Rodolfo Biazon will retain the defense committee. That’s also good. Sen. Antonio Trillanes will head the committee on civil service.
Sen. Chiz Escudero will get the ways and means committee. Sen. Jinggoy Estrada will be the Senate President protempore.
The powerful finance committee will go to Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile. In a way, the finance committee being in the hands of an administration senator has its merits. Chances are with the opposition dominating the Senate in numbers, they will end up with a re-enacted budget that would be to the advantage of whoever sits in Malacañang. That responsibility is in the hands of Enrile.
If Estrada and Cayetano would be true to their mandate as a counter to the rapacious adminisitration of Gloria Arroyo, they can help set the direction of the Senate towards that. Let’s be vigilant to make sure that they adhere totheir mandate.
As I wrote earlier, medyo pipigilin ko muna making comments and be angry on the apparent sommersault made by Manny Villar, Chiz Escudero, Alan Cayetano and Jinggoy Estrada. I believe the the perceived split was just part of maneuvering for the Senate Presidency. I also believe that they know what they are doing following the words of Sen. Loren: Ibinoto tayo bilang oposisyon, kapag sasama tayo sa administrasyon, hindi tayo patatawarin ng tao.
We hope they learned from the message of the people who voted for most of the GO candidates. But if they will eventually capitulate and side with Arroyo administration, they should expect what will happen to them as what happened to the likes of Recto, Sotto & Oreta.

As the old adage says, “Once bitten, twice shy.” At least, with Senator Biazon holding the defense committee, we can be sure that he’ll do his best to make sure that Senator Trillanes is able to perform his duties and responsibilities as majority of the Filipinos would want him to.
To hell with the criminal overstaying at the palace by the murky river! What is important is this gallant soldier be given the chance to fulfill what he has been voted for—the removal of the creep, her husband and their fellow crooks.
As for Cayetano, puede ba pakisabi na lang sa kaniya, ilabas na niya ang nalalaman niya tungkol sa mga Pidal. Kung parang katulad din siya ni Ping Lacson na wala namang magawa, e forget it. Next time, wala nang maniniwala talaga sa kaniya. Dapat si Tamano, he should be on his own and not attach himself with these people. Masisira siya sa totoo lang. Parang sinabing, “Tell me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you are!”

Mga kaibigan, huwag muna tayo magpadalos dalos, Pag na swindle ka ng isang beses ok lang, pero pag twice na, baka mag mukha tayong tanga. Doubt ako sa mga politician na eto. Anytime they can change their color. As of now, Si Trillanes pa lang, ang hindi nagbabago pure white pa rin.

Kailangan ng civil servants (kasama na ang mga sundalo) ang kakayahan ni Sen. Sonny. Tiwala ako sa kanyang magagawang tulong sa kanila. Bukod dito ay gusto ko sanang makita na siya ay gawing co-chair ng Blue Ribbon.
But I’m whishing for the next to impossible because Villar that our Senator can definitely upstage them and could be a shoo-in for VP in 2010. Maraming maaapakan.

Lamentably, it is not in the nature of Senator Pimentel to be doing a Villar or a JdV or a Garcia (of Cebu).
People, who know Senator Pimentel personally know, that it is out of his style to do a Villar or a JdV or a Garcia. One thing sure, though, is he would not want to make enemies or back stabbers just to get the Senate Presidency, etc.
Okay lang si Nene. Kaya lang kaya daw nagkagulo ang oposisyon ngayon dahil sa biglang interest niyang maging Senate President. Hindi daw alam ng ibang kasamahan na may balak at interest siya sa liderato. Noon pa man daw ay si Villar na ang napag-usapan tapos biglang tatakbo sa Senate President si Nene. Pero okay lang. Hawak pa din naman niya ang Minority Floor Leader. Mag-ingal lang siya kina Loren at Mar. May kanilang sariling agenda ang mga iyan di tulad ni Lacson na bukas sa lahat ang balak niya sa 2010.

I’m not a bit worried on the maneuvering in the Senate. All what we have been reading are media hype. It’s because of the multi party that comprised the GO ticket. In fairness, the Senators in the past Congress have shown grit under intense fire and I think they will be have the same posture with the additional new faces, I think once the Senate Presidency is resolved, they will sit down to the real job they are expected to do. The elected GO senators know where they stand and I believe they know the pulse of the people why they were given the mandate. But just in case they really changed their ways by aligning with the administration, to hell with them, as long as there is Sen. Trillanes.

No way that Lacson can win over GMA during that time. The consensus was FPJ had the best chance. It could be gleaned from votes Lacson got compared to GMA and FPJ. Sana, kung malakas si Lacson noon, medyo close sa dalawa ang boto niya. On the contrary, masyadong malayo. But of course, if it’s your belief, I am not countering it. I’m just disagreeing which is based on hard facts which was the result with FPJ winning it but Hello Garci intervened.

Ang turning point sa pagkatalo ng oposisyon noong 2004 ay hindi nagbigayan sina FPJ at Lacson. Natatandaan ko pang nagbigay pa nga ng ultimatum si Manalo ng INC na kapag hindi sila nagbigayan ay mapipilitan kumampi kay tiyanak ang INC; at iyon nga ang nangyari. Alalahanin niyo na mga isang milyon ang panalo kuno ni tiyanak. Ipagpalagay na natin tutoo at walang dayaan, sa palagay ko karamihan sa isang milyon lamang niya ay galing sa INC. Kung isa kina FPJ o Lacson napunta ang boto ng INC, tiyak ang panalo ang isa sa kanila. Iyan ang tawag na “swing vote”. Opinion ko lang naman iyan.

Artsee, Pareho tayo ng feeling para kay Ping Lacson. Believe din ako sa kanya because he did not get his share of pork barrel, but deep inside, there is still that tinge of doubt. First, for his failure to allign with FPJ back then, and then by not really pursuing the Pidal issue, and made it as an issue in the 2004 pres election.
