Indeed, the all-powerful unseen hand has a way of spoiling the most calculated plans.
Just like what happened in the court martial hearing of the mutiny case against 28 Marine and Army officers involved in the Feb. 2006 aborted withdrawal of support from Gloria Arroyo.
If the reason for the holding the hearing a week ahead of the agreed schedule had something to do with rendering the accused irrelevant for whatever the government is planning in the coming days, the opposite was achieved because the hearing served as a forum for the Marines to express their sympathy to their fallen comrades and disgust for the inept manner that the military leadership is handling the situation.
Showing up in the courtroom with their heads shaven, Colonels Ariel Querubin, Orlando de Leon, Januario Caringal, Armando Bañez, Custodio Parcon, Achilles Segumalian, and Maj. Francisco Fernandez staged an eloquent protest action.
The perfect timing was served to them on a silver platter by the court martial panel.
There was something disquieting the way the panel headed by Lt. Gen. Alexander Yano tried to hasten the hearing last Wednesday just like the many other things that seem not to fit in this country these days (like ultra-rightist Norberto Gonzalez acting as interim defense secretary for a month at the time when the in Human Security Act is to be implemented).
In the morning, defense lawyers asked and begged (Atty. Vicente Verdadero, lawyer of Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim did this) for the return to the original schedule of the hearing which was July 27 because 17 of the 28 accused were not represented by their lawyers. All requests for reconsideration were denied, denied, denied.
Pushed to the wall, the accused had to exercise their peremptory challenge when the hearing resumed in the afternoon. Yago was expelled. They tried to ram down Major Generals Raul Caballes and Cirano Austria in violation of rule that no official should be tried by somebody lower in rank in the seniority list. Miranda is senior than Caballes and Austria.
In the end, after hours of weary exchanges that centered on the return to the original schedule of the hearing which was July 27, the panel adjourned. What a waste of time and emotions.
In the June 15 hearing, it was agreed that the next one would be on July 6. Then it was re-scheduled to July 13. Then it was re-scheduled to July 27.
Last Monday, July 16, the lawyers were informed that the hearing was reset to July 18. Naturally it made a mess out of the lawyers’ schedules. Some tried to ask for the re-scheduling of previous commitments like Atty. Verdadero who earlier asked for the postponement of last Wednesday’s hearings but showed up anyway after he managed to have his other hearing in a Manila court moved.
One accused after another told the court the difficult situation they are in. Capt. Ruben Guinolbay, remembered as the hero of Lamitan, said that since he is not allowed to have a cellphone and other means of communication to the outside world, he does not know the whereabouts of his lawyer, Trixie Angeles. (She was able to catch up in the afternoon hearing.) Other accused officers echoed Guinolbay’s situation.
Betraying insensitivity to the plight of the detained officers, the panel denied their motion for postponement saying that they should have gotten another lawyer. Besides, Col. Marian Aleido, the lawyer in the panel, pointed out the presence of military lawyers who can represent them.
Lt. Belinda Ferrer, the lone woman among the accused, declined the services of the military lawyer and insisted that she wanted to exercise her right to be represented by a counsel of her choice.
Verdadero stood up to enlighten the panel that “it is physically and financially impossible” for the detained officers to get a new lawyer in a matter of two days. He disclosed that most of them are taking the cases pro bono because where would the imprisoned officers get the money pay them? To lessen their financial drain, family members of the officers give the lawyers a free ride to Tanay which is a six-hour trip both ways.
But the most insensitive comment came from prosecution lawyer Lt. Col. Jose Feliciano Loy, who attributed the absence of the defense lawyers to a delaying strategy until the case prescribes in February 2008.
The allegation railed Guinolbay who tried to approach Loy to tell him “we are not enjoying our lives as prisoners.” Cooler heads intervened.
Convened illegally, violations of the law are no longer surprising in this trial. But as what happened last Wednesday, they don’t always get their way.
I say what happened today is Murphy’s law, “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” (This is a favorite PMAer quote!)
Someone in Esperon’s surrender gang entourage should tell him what ever he does there’s no turning around that he is incompetent and that as in Murphy’s Law, “In any hierarchy, each individual rises to his own level of incompetence, and then remains there.”
That’s what’s gonna happen to this court martial!
Again, Murphy’s Law.
A new soldier was on sentry duty at the main gate of the court martial building. His orders were clear; no car was to enter unless it had a special sticker on the windshield. A big Army car came up with a general seated in the back.
The sentry said, “Halt, who goes there?”
The chauffeur, a corporal, says, “General Yago.”
“I’m sorry, I can’t let you through. You’ve got to have a sticker on the windshield.”
The general said, “Drive on!”
The sentry said, “Hold it! You really can’t come through. I have orders to shoot if you try driving in without a sticker.”
The general repeated, “I’m telling you, son, drive on.”
The sentry walked up to the rear window and said, “General, I’m new at this. Do I shoot you or the driver?”
Having just moved into his new office, pompous, Lt Colonel Jose Feliciano Loy was sitting at his desk when an army enlisted man knocked on the door.
Conscious of his new position, Lt Colonel Jose Feliciano Loy quickly picked up the phone, told the enlisted man to enter, then said into the phone, “Yes, General, I’ll be seeing him this afternoon and I’ll pass along your message.
In the meantime, thank you for your good wishes, sir.”
Feeling as though he had sufficiently impressed the young enlisted man, he asked, “What do you want?”
“Nothing important, sir,” the enlisted man replied, “I’m just here to hook up your telephone.”
So we see even the military justice has turned into a broil of incompetence. It is short of a terroistic act on the persecuted. Such things happen due to the half cooked manipulations, whims, or panic spoiling what to be said on the SONA and to the foreign monitors. Of course those things happen and not new anymore to us and the world audience.
Ellen,
Paki check, galing doon sa ibaba. Bakit galing pa sa Italy ang news.

Kidnapped Italian priest released in Philippines: Prodi
philstar.com/index.php?News%20Flash&p=54&type=2&sec=91&aid=20070719233
Bossi was released by his captors past midnight somewhere in Lanao Sur thru negotiations by the PNP.
Anna,
Your story about this Lt. Col. Feliciano reminds me of a petty officer in the US Navy I met, who would always introduce himself with his P. O. title as if it was something big. One day, I went to the Yokosuka Naval Base in the outskirts of Tokyo to visit a friend, and she and her husband fetched me at the gate. Then, we met this Filipino there, who was making yabang again. He introduced himself to my friend and her husband with “Petty Officer Something” (Sorry I forgot his name).
I saw the American husband of my friend raising an eyebrow, and when we were a distant away, he burst into laughter. He actually introduced himself as just “Mr. Lewis” even when he was in fact a Commodore, and this Filipino was in fact a nobody!
But then, it’s a sickness I guess because it is not just this Filipino in the US Navy who would do that but also others of ranks back in old P. I. who do that because they think they are already a somebody with this and that title!
Kahit hindi na nga Congressman, tinatawag pa ring Congressman for example as if the position is permanent one kahit na dahil sa naboto lang sila. And I guess, this is one of the main reasons why this Zubiri or this Poohtah would do anything to grab their positions—kahit ibenta ang kaluluwa kay Satanas!
Chi,
Galit na kasi ang mga Italiano. Sila na siguro ang nakipag-negotiate and they were promised that the Italian priest would be released somewhere in Malaysia! Just kidding!
This is a clear indication that these gallant soldiers are a victim of political persecution not court martial prosecution.
What you’re saying, Anna, maraming gunggong sa AFP. Ganoon ba? Lim, et al na maraming common sense, and would defy anyone who would tell them to do foolish things. Same with Trillanes and Company. Malas nila maraming duwag na ayaw magutom I guess kaya hindi sumama! Iyong matatapang, tignan mo naman ang ginawa—pinapugutan pa ng ulo, and then the leaders wash off their hands!
Waiting for your decision, sir.
Waste of “good men”!
Yuko:
The petty officer in the U.S.Navy are those enlisted men. Petty Officer third class, Petty Officer second class then Petty officer Ist class. Next they become CPO-Chief Petty Officer, then Senior Chief and the highest enlisted rank is Master chief. Most naval recruits in the Philippines during those times were not lucky enough to retire as a CPO. Only those who has brain and pass the tough exams can make Chief. Most of them were stewards in the ship. They only peeled potato everyday and wash dishes and some mop the deck and tik-tik kalawang. I am not putting them down and I pity some of them. When they become CPO,they manage the kitchen,Chief cook. But,as you said they are mayabang. I could not question that, I’ve seen most of them when they spent vacation in the Philippines and they get all the beautiful girls in town. They cleaned the beer stock of Manang Lagring sari-sari store and the astray dog of Andoy.
With “great joy” daw ang Papa sa Vatican sa pagka-release ni Fr. Bossi!
Chi;
I don’t know and I am not sure, but, I am having a mix-emotion about this Fr.Bossi and the beheading of those gallant Marines. Coincidence about those previous events. First of all people are outrage about the close senatorial slot regarding Dayana and Koko, wrath and disgust on the pending proclamation. Abalos was having a headache how to douse the situation think it was an orchestrated ploy to divert attention and anger of the people. Since, the sick-boy gonzales is a good manipulator, maybe, he come-up with a plan and Pandakikay agree to have a Zarsuela of moro-moro to keep people’s mind busy watching the play.
CBCP has an iced-cooled demeanor on the event of Father Bossi, because for sure they knew that he will come back alive. Also, the Tipo-Tipo scenario,9 hours firefight with no rescue. Diversion tactics on Dayana’s proclamation. That’s the way how I look at it, close to my Tiagong Akyat fictitious story.
Cocoy,
Gloria’s fake administration is so full of diversion shits to cover up gory incidents one after the other.
chi;
Kaya nga siguro ang babaing tenyente na only 2 weeks on command ang ginawang platoon leader to serve a decoy purpose.See, newscaster was been involve on that operation.Publicity stunt.Parang WWE ni Vince McMahon.Hulk Hogan Vs.Andre the Giant.
Chi;
Of course! this politically persecuted gallant soldiers want to, Right the Wrong,Esperon want to Wrong the Right!
Father Bossi just got released. Thank God but there was something bugging me. Why was the news of the release read in other countries first? Secondly, it just occured to me that the many syndicate ring leaders actually belong to the military. What if Father Bossi was actually with this military syndicate and they got away with multi millions in the operation. This is just a pigment of my imagination, maybe, but it may be true. If some of these military mafia can actually kidnap and kill, kidnapping a priest for ransom is too easy for these crooks! Never mind if the 14 marines were killed as long as they got the boot. Was the reason for assperon’s matter of factly response to the death of the marines an indication that someone up there may have known that Father Bossi’s abduction was just to milk more money for the military mafia’s pockets?
Chi;
Now, Let me comment some thought on the unlawful plight of these incarcerated gallant soldiers through politically motivated persecution. It will be a regrettable mistakes to proceed the court martial on this soldiers, But, obviously wether I and you like it or not, we have no power to halt the tyrant not to proceed his evil will to convict these soldiers and put them to death. But, we have every right to express our disgust to stop this tyrannical misdeed on our soldiers. Luckily we are not on their shoes but, in essence we can feel their despair, anger and agonies.
They are under a dictator and inept military commander. A commander who is a shame to humanity and he deserve no respect not even a left-handed salute, although middle finger may work. Their commander is not a defender of the constitution but, a commander of criminals and a hold-uppers in robes. One most important things I can say that:== Esperon can jail the resistors, but he can’t jail the resistance.
PSB;
You have a point there my friend. Mafiosi style. Pandakikay and Esperon operation is more sophisticated. Their modern underworld crime consist of religious groups, men in uniform, hoodlums in robe, politicians and a forge alliance with the MILF and ABU Sayyaf.
Anna: RE; That’s what’s gonna happen to this court martial!
Again, Murphy’s Law.
*************************************************
If anything can go wrong, it will! Exactly the way it goes on this court martial proceedings.
Anna, your sentry joke made my day. It also proves these posts are not staid and humorless. Also, the competence level is a Peter Principle, not a Murphy.
Spy Says: “Bossi was released by his captors past midnight somewhere in Lanao Sur thru negotiations by the PNP.”
information source category – EWAN!
anna,
akala ko law of mutation.
PSB:
Remember that kidnapping in Palawan before? There was something fishy in the sharing of the ransom money according to my source and some military folks were involved that was why the Abus were able to escape.
I wonder if Ms. Burnham mentioned such in her book. Demoralized AFP? You bet!
Cocoy,
That was the rank of the Filipino hambug. CPO. Pero mas mataas ang rangko ng asawa ng kaibigan ko from good old UP days.
Chi,
Tinamanang lintek talaga! Nakakai-Yuck talaga! 😛
I don’t see anything wrong with being an Enlisted Sailor, Soldier or Marine. The same way I don’t see anything wrong with people who do construction work, garbage disposal, maintenance etc..Enlisted personnel address themselves with rank because it’s what they have been taught and trained since Basic Training. Officers commonly refer to fellow officers on a first name basis and all of this is common among us military.
A “commodore” who finds it amusing that a CPO will introduce himself with rank is definitely not the norm. This officer who I think is just plain insecure because he couldn’t do the cool things some people do in the military probably gets the same look from enlisted personnel in Special Operations. What a loser
Yano from the very start is very obvious to be one of the “most military assholes” in the AFP. Wala talagang aasahan ang mga detained officers and their lawyers na fair trial sa kalbong yan kasi tuta yan ni assperon. In exchange of a juicy position in the AFP, ipagpapalit ni Yano ang kanyang kaluluwa.
Mam ellen, kindly look into this matter: Parang kaduda duda yong prison break sa basilan just happened earlier. I don’t believe that the priest was released because the captors were pressured from military and pnp operations.
On the other hand, ano ba talaga ang tunay at totoong istorya?
PSB,
Fictionn or not, what you said what was I meant with “cover-up”! Gloria knew all along where Fr. Bossi was as Mrivera was saying kung saan-saan napunta!
I’m just so sad for the loss of lives of 14-30 marines in this supposed rescue, as if their death meant nothing to this despicable government of pidal-arroyo!
Except for the kidnapped foreigners, who if not recovered, will mean an international blackeye again for the pidal woman, a Pilipino life doesn’t count, gloriawise!
Sabi ni Garci general Tolentino that the young Burgos maybe a communist. This hangal just admitted by his “suspicion” that they got Jonas kasi komunista (kaaway nila)!
I agree with your observations, Nine. The release of Fr. Bossi was perfectly timed before the fantasy SONA of Gloria da Pooh!
It took 14-30 marine lives…for the fake president to include the recovery of the Italian priest alive in her empty SONA!
So disgusting!
Idadala raw sa Maynila si Fr. Bossi. The politics of kidnap!
i agree with you chi when it comes to comparing the jonas and bossi stories.gma can send batallions of soldiers to find a foreigner whereas jonas is sent to the sea of forgetfulnes.the bossi story is more like an american film with a happy ending for the hero while the extras were beheaded. the more lamentable is that this is true life and the scriptwriter is a filipina.
norpil,
A Filipina scriptwriter to the hilt, who moves heaven and earth for international audience!
I salute Aling Edith Burgos, she is brave and resolute fighting a bunch of COWARDS!
Pedro:
Agree “Enlisted personnel address themselves with rank because it’s what they have been taught and trained since Basic Training.”
When an enlisted personnel in a military camp introduces himself to a visitor, it’s SOP to introduce himself with his ‘rank’, eg., Petty Officer Galungong, etc.
the tipo-tipo incident was orchestrated to justify the implementation of (in)Human (in)Security Act.
PSB,
I concur to what you’ve said.
I have been asking myself lately, what if those beheading are actually committed by same group who are responsible for all these Forced Disappearances and Extrajudicial Killings?
Glueria needs to justify this Anti-terror Law [HSA]. And what could be the most effective way of winning public opinion than a 911-type barbaric act? Something she could have easily learned from her Master Bush.
Remember, the MNLF were honest enough to acknowledge on the first day that they were engaging the Marines for incursions. They denied the beheadings. And they want international human rights group to investigate the matter.
So what if the Marines’ Beheading were actually committed by gov’t intelligence forces [Bert Gonzales Group]?
Afterall, these soldiers are not of their kind.
The Esperon’s and Gloria’s military zarsuela in a nutshell:
A unit of the Philippine Marines were ambushed last July 10 while they were out in Basilan, MILF-Abu Sayyaff country searching for the kidnapped priest; 14 Marines were killed (or 30 depending on whether we could believe the MILF spokesman E Kabalu or not); there was enough public “outrage” following the beheading of the 10 Marines among them; Chief of Staff AFP Esperon made a Surrender Gang declaration saying he wouldn’t jeopardize the current Malaysia-chaired peace talks with the parallel army in the South and went on to propose a 3-year truce with another parallel army, the NPAs; the forked-tongue pronouncement gave us inkling that Esperon was prepared to go into a protracted war with the Muslim insurgents in the South – materially, the AFP cannot fight both fronts simultaneously; MILF continuously denied their “troops” were responsible for the beheading; same insurgents had also insisted they did not know who kidnapped Bossi; 9 days after the beheading of the troops and a few days after all the AFP chief’s hypes before the media, Bossi was released.
(And guess who broke the news? Prime Minister of Prodi all the way in Italy!)
I don’t believe the MILF didn’t know where Bossi was. Let’s face it, the threat of an all out war in the South prompted them to produce Bossi, of course a little prodding by Malaysian advisers must have helped but there can be no doubt the MILF knew which button to push to get his kidnappers to produce Bossi from the very beginning! Bastards! And they had to kill 14 or 30 Marines to prove their point?
But this “good will” by the insurgent Muslim group didn’t come without a price either, monetarily that is. I won’t put payment of ransom past Gloria regime to get the MILF get cracking as in the following:
“Listen I will bomb you to kingdom come you miserable pigheads! You know Philippine opinion is with me to bomb you but here’s what, give me Bossi and we’re even, on top of which, I’ll give you a million dollars if you produce the priest right away! Capisce?”
There’s no turning around: The botched military operation to rescue Fr Bossi was a result of the gross incomptence of the Esperon command.
The release of Fr Bossi without an all out war showed us that it could have been done of only Esperon had been doing his job properly instead of hunting down activists, human rights proponents, unarmed civilians, etc. Overall, two people are to blame in all this military zarsuela: Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Hermogenes Esperon, Jr.
It’s a given, the MILF are baddies too and ought to be punished.
I say someone from the lower hierarchy in the AFP should take over AFP Command and slap the two incompetent ‘commanders’ back to back with command responsibility charges, then pummel the MILF!
I meant (And guess who broke the news? Prime Minister Prodi all the way from Italy!)
Frankly, I don’t know if I should take this as good news but for the sake of argument, let’s… Politically, what an opportuned moment for the nation’s “commander in chief” — the “abrupt” release of the kidnapped Italian priest who was held captive by ‘unknown’ forces in Mindanao for 40 days is about to give Gloria the important makeover before she needs before she faces the nation – isn’t she about to pronounce the SONA before Congress?
Excellent timing, wouldn’t you say? (Now she’ll have to show ’em insurgents down south a bit of gratitude and I have no doubt she will – maybe she’ll let them behead 10 more Marines, what say you?)
SONA,What will be will be, success on all aspesct of lies, from blooming econony, jobs creation on millions, foods for hungry, protections for human rights, curtailed of corruptions,a big foriegn investments and so forth. What a nice scenario for a international eyes a lady with a size of 1 try to fit her body on the size of 12.Applauses will be coming from well fed vultures, crocies and sticky fingers of Juan piggy bank. While most of majorities, try to survived on fantasies of economics blooming.HSA,another bullwhip for the back of the masses who cry foul, then would end up of warrantless arrest, that you called human right protections, most of make international giggling about were curtailing corruptions, elevetions of the country title the most or 2nd in rank among Asian nations,no.8 from the rest of the world.Attracting foriegn investor, the only Philippines were the country taking advantages on our environments, natural resources, manpower and talents.YEHEY,a big success of flop.
Q: What does Esperon do to lose weight?
A: Runs away from the MILF.
The most dangerous thing in the combat zone is Esperon with a map.
Esperon’s law (as opposed to Murphy’s law):
There is no limit to how bad things can get.
Anna,
The poohtah can send as many marines as she wants to Mindanao for beheading, afterall she’s the female MUGABE, sabi mo nga.
And guess what, Chi? Esperon will NOT fight in the South.. He’s just been named a Datu according to the Inquirer that released this picture via their website on line:
Philippine Daily Inquirer pic caption reads: DATU TAWAGA. Indigenous people leaders from different parts of Mindanao confer on Armed Forces chief of Staff Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. the title Datu Tawaga, named after a legendary tribal warrior. Esperon said he has been close to indigenous people since his stint as a brigade commander in Mindanao.
Kaya pala sabi niya after the beheading of the 10 Marines: We will not jeopardize the peace talks with the MILF. Iyon pala his crowning is about to take place.
Datu Tawaga! What a shit!
Now, we’re getting the true picture!
Yuck! Nakakai-Yuck!
Anna,
Just saw the photo, he’s like a coward tandang (rooster)!
Chi, spot on!
I knew there was a hitch somewhere when Esperon declared immediately after the MILF beheaded the 10 Marines, “We must keep our cool; we must not jeopardize the peace talks with the MILF… yakatiyakyakyak…” Iyon pala, kukoronahan siya as Datu Tagawa(lang bayag)!
Now there’s truth that Esperon loses weight by running away from the MILF!
Yuko,
Iyan ang aking ipinaghihinagpis. This Tolentino just said NPA si Jonas. So, in their lingo, he just justified the killing of poor Jonas!
Sampot: I have been asking myself lately, what if those beheading are actually committed by same group who are responsible for all these Forced Disappearances and Extrajudicial Killings?
*****
Parang kidnapping sa Iraq ha? Iyong ibang kidnapping kapag untraceable, siguraduhin mong may connivance.
Anna,
This SUPOT kept as guessing kung bakit banana approach sila sa Tipo-tipo beheading, ‘yon pala e something would be added to his nut head!
Anong peace-talk, peace-talk? Gago talaga ano? Kakagigil!
Tangnang Gloria/Esperon tandem! Sinungaling! Duwag!
Jove Francisco’s 18 July blog, Rehearsed, a day before the release of the priest, gives us an insight on why I believe Gloria moved for a deal to be struck with the MILF (reason? her SONA zarzuela):
http://www.jovefrancisco.com/?p=635
When I entered the editing room in our live point, my co-workers were laughing at something in the footage being played back.
They played it back again, and I saw the scene that they found funny.
There it was, President Arroyo entering the State dining room, all smiles, quite giddy and very excited to exchange pleasantries with her cabinet officials. Her body language was quite, how should I say it? Okay, if it were a stage play, it was more exaggerated so that the people at the far end of the theatre will still notice. Imagine this scene: she walked pass Secretary Cerge Remonde. Instead of the usual “hi, hello plus smile”, she gave him this “hi, hello, smile PLUS a very strange mouth gesture that almost looked like a flying kiss without the hand or lips pointing at something far and away. It was so exaggerated that those who will view the video will never miss it.
I thought what I saw was quite interesting.
Anna,
This reminds me of a friend, an American, at a US base in Japan. One day, he called me up and asked, “Yuko, what do you mean by “tae ulo”? When I asked him why, he said that when he was in Manila and visited his girlfriend, the men in the neighborhood, called him “tae ulo” and I understand that he was told it meant “handsome.” As I did not know the expression myself, I asked a friend at the Philippine Embassy what it meant and he said, “tinorotot!” It means “made a cuckold of.”
Anna: “hi, hello, smile PLUS a very strange mouth gesture that almost looked like a flying kiss without the hand or lips pointing at something far and away.
******
Lalaki ba iyan Remonde na iyan? The flying kiss may not be about the priest. You know what I mean. Malandi talaga! Wala namang taste ang mga pumapatol diyan! Yuck! 😛
Anna, Yuko,
Look, while the “Men of Honor” shaved their heads to protest and mourn the death of their own men, heto naman si Datu Tawanan at nagdagdag pa ng kung ano sa ulo niya!
(Nahirapan na naman akong pumasok sa Ellenville!)
Before I read the news of Fr. Bossi’s release Fr. Larry my
Italian priest friend, already sent me a message re the news. Kaya lang sa Italian and I did not understand. He had mentioned to me when we met last Tues. that he would not be surprised if Italy would pay for his release. I don’t think Gloria has anything to do with his release- baka pay porsiento pa siya sa bayad. It was the Italian gov’t I think who negotiated through that woman envoy. I just sent Fr. Larry a note that with help of the Italian money, the rebels now, are financially well off to buy new modern military equipments to fight the AFP with the blessing of the babaeng aso (female dog- as in bits). Malaki nga ang tulong ng mga missionaries sa atin (Catholics or non Catho) but they are easy targets for kidnapping and a good financial source for the rebels…kaya puede ba sa Manila na lang sila..at huwag sa Mindanao.
Rose,
I don’t disagree that Gloria did not shell out the money (swapang iyan) but am pretty sure she was privy to the transaction – she knew that the Italians would be shelling out the money eventually (just like with the Sipadan hostages, Europeans paid for their release) but the transaction couldn’t have taken place without the brokering by people licensed by Malacanang.
In other words, they Gloria “knew” who was keeping Bossi! That they should even acknowledge MILF pronouncement that the insurgents didn’t know is pissing and spitting on the dead.
And as you say, the mutilators and beheaders are more well off than before.
Question is now that Bossi is safely out of the way, will Surrender Gang chief Esperon aka known as Datu Tamawa(lang Bayag) finally get it in his panties to pummel the MILF?
To me, the minute the beheaded corpses of the Marines were discovered, Esperon and Gloria should have given up on Bossi – they should have run after the MILF insurgents of beheaders and mutilators and to show the govt meant business – money wouldn’t have changed hands which the insurgents will now use to buy arms and weapons with and which could very well spell the beheading of another 10 marines in the future.
Gloria and Esperon knew where Bossi was, knew who held him, no force on earth will convince me that they didn’t know – the transaction for his release proved that there was an offer of a deal for Bossi realeas from the beginning and believe me, Malacanang and Esperon were aware with Class A info!
Ystakei
Pogi si Remonde. Baka type noong little girl kaya may pa-flying kiss kuno.
Dapat may plan B.
Rose,
I understand that our church has missionaries in Mindanao, but for some reason, leaders of our church have the wisdom to remove them when they get this promptings that they should do so.
So far, I have not heard of any of our missionaries getting killed in the Philippines by the tulisans. In South America, we have had quite a number of missionaries getting killed there but not politically related. I doubt if our church also pays kidnappers. Thank God!
TP:
Pogi talaga? Kaya type ni Poohtah! Wala na si Benggot ha? Landiiiiii talaga! Ngeeeeeek!
Flash report: Gma has sent 65 marines assigned with PSG to basilan. PSG comdr preztosa said the marines are duty bound to help their comrades.
reaction:
Off topic, but I’m shocked of the fantastic tales of this Tallano claiming to be the legal owner of the Philippines, and Homobono Adaza, who on many occasions act as Enrile’s emissary, is taking up his case against Erap, etc who, the Unano, is trying her best to sue for plunder para mamatay na at hindi na siya maiidolo ng mga pilipino! Golly, puro sira ang ulo!
You bet, this is another ploy of the Fatso family. Talagang desididong angkinin ang Pilipinas! Heaven forbid!
Sila naman ngayon ang mapupugutan ng ulo! Makatulog na nga, but after I calm down.
Patalsikin Na, Now Na!
So, the factions(I am stressing that it is not just one group) who concocted this Bossi kidnapping got all the money they want, tiyanak got her pogi picture with Fr Bossi in time for the SONA and assperon did not only get the boot but also the throne and title to now be a part of the Mindanao kingdom. This not just preparing for the SONA but also preparing for the 2010 elections para mas tuloy pa ang cheating operations nila sa Mindanao! The losers are our poor soldiers who were the BAIT or simply the DISTRACTION while assperon and the tiyanak were finalizing the deal with Italy. Matalino talaga iton tiyanak-assperon tandem. Marunong parehong kumita at magpapogi! No wonder assperon said “let us honor the peace talks”. Yun pala, let us wait for the loot to come ang ibig niyang sabihin!
The Bossi kidnap and Marines beheading were such riveting news items they diverted Ellenville’s sharp eyes from another of Ate Glue’s sneaky ways. Quietly, by total inaction to avoid drawing the public’s attention, she allowed the Tax Amnesty bill to lapse into law. Without her signing or vetoing the Congressional bill by law meant that the bill automatically became part of the law of the land after a time lapse of 60 days, in this case, May 24, 2007. Whistle blower Solita Monsod avers “the BIR estimates that if the taxpayers involved in the deficiency tax assessments amounting to P46 billion were to avail of the tax amnesty, it would be able to collect at most P6 billion, versus the P10 billion to P19 billion it could collect under compromise agreements.”
More BIR shortfalls may mean the prediction of new taxes in 2008 is plausible.
Why would a Tuburan mayor negotiate for the release of Father Bossi held in Lanao del Norte on the top of Mindanao?
The Pentagon kidnap gang territory is the Cotabatos. The Abu kidnap syndicate hqs is Tuburan. The military may use their campaign error as heading off the kidnappers in Tipo Tipo in Tuburan, Basilan which is farther below Minadanao Island. It’s error is a blessing in disguise. Sometimes indicisions of high command bear fruit. At first the military wanted immediate revenge of the “14” heads. Then cooled off. Then again cried wolf to justify the error. The mayor swallowed the bluff. The rest is victory of the palace.
Neonate said; she allowed the Tax Amnesty bill to lapse into law. Without her signing or vetoing the Congressional bill by law meant that the bill automatically became part of the law of the land after a time lapse of 60 days.
******************************************************************
Maybe, you have a point it automatically became part of the law. If you are talking about the statue of limitation. But, to my little knowledge and understandings about government if the President does not like a bill, she can refuse to sign it. When she does this is called VETO (not veto deodorant,ha). If the President veto a bill, it will most likely never become a law. However, Her Tongressman in Congress can override her veto, but to do so two-thirds of the Tongressman must vote against her. Despite all of her power even though she only stands 4’11 she can not write bills, she can propose a bill enclosing a padded bill in Manila envelope for every Tongressman, then after a long debate kuno and deliberation and seduction with a long-legged secretary in hotel room they submit to her the propose bill. She is technically their Mamasang and their boss because the dough come from her.
I am not sure, ha, during my government class I was busy flirting with my beautiful seatmate, now, she is a lawyer. Sayang ang ganda pa naman niya.Nanood lang kami ng sine.
Oooops! Someone just called me up. The marine contingent went really to Tipotipo to deliver the Italian goody on the guise of a search and rescue campaign. The kidnappers of Bossi dont trust negotiations by cellphone anymore. And they specified cold cash. The Marines delivered and left. They were given clearing time before the release but they noticed half of the ransom money were fake thus the punitive beheadings to warn higher ups. The fake equivalent was hurriedly delivered in 9 hours thus the rest of the marines were spared by a cease fire.
Here’s what I wrote in my blog:
¤
Gloria and Esperon knew where Bossi was, knew who held him, knew about the demand for ransom — no force on earth will convince me that they didn’t know! Bossi’s abrupt release proved that there was an offer by the kidnappers for a deal from the beginning and believe me, Malacanang and Esperon were hoping the Italians would come up with the funds to pay off the kidnappers. They had Class A info about the kidnappers even before the beheading of the 10 Marines!
¤
The Italians who decided to put up the money hastened the transaction when they finally realized the AFP just wastn’t up to the task of rescuing Bossi and am pretty sure Gloria was told that it’s got to be done soon. So what happened? Malacanang gave the go signal to the “brokers” to move. As sure as the sun rises, I’m sure that the transaction involving Italian officials couldn’t have taken place without the brokering by locals ‘licensed’ by Malacanang, a transaction that came in at an opportuned time, hastened too by Malacanang in time for her upcoming SONA.
¤
I have no doubt that the panel of the “negotiators” that finally negotiated for the release of Bossi using Italian taxpayers’ money included people with links into Malacanang a.k.a. Gloria-Esperon insiders.
Whoa!
Half of the ransom money was fake. Sino ang kumuha ng tunay na half?! Whoever got it should be beheaded also as punishment for the death of the 14-30 marines. Pinagkanulo niya ng mga marines for half of the ransom!
So that’s the reason for the 9 hours battle, most of the hours, were just waiting for half of the ransom. Kaya pala walang saklolo/reinforcement!
Gloria and Asspweron really timed the release of Bossi for her HSA and SONA ha! No coincidence…scripted as scripted can be!
I hope it’s not true because if it’s true the AFP will implode!
If true, Esperon will not be able to prevent other troops talking and these troops have a way of spreading the bad news.
They just may eventually revolt – the beheading of their comrades would break the camel’s back. It’s ugly, it’s beyond even the most battle hardened marines to swallow.
If what Spy says is true that Gloria transfered the Marines detailed to the PSG to the front in Mindanao, then Gloria is now quaking in her ugly boots.
Anna hit it right, galing mo kapatid!
Again, Ellenville was first to break the news, thanks Valdemar!
Anna,
I’m sure that when this “breaking” news reach the soldiers, they will first confirm its authenticity. O baka alam na nila!
Pero tama ka, nanginginig na si gloria da pooohtah because this story, true or not, is bound to reach every corner of Sandatahan ng Pinas!
Kung nagpadala ng maraming marines si gloria sa Mindanao, it only meant that she’s trying to appease the soldiers and diffuse the bomba na tatama sa kanya!
Neonate: “Also, the competence level is a Peter Principle, not a Murphy.”
It is also known in the UK military as Murphy’s Law or The Sod’s Law.
Chi,
There are very few Marines – they can do a bit of damage but they can not take on the AFP leadership on their own. The rest of the services have got to be on their side.
Problem is as in any armed forces, it’s ironic to say but the military esprit de corps is not quite prevalent between services unless they are all affected, i.e., across the board.
The real military esprit de corps is more realistic in the intra service level but between the units in that service, there’s also a bit of “struggle”.
That’s why Gloria’s act when she discovered that the NAVY Seals (SWAG) was causing trouble was “to disband” the unit (per FOIC recommendation.) The SWAG are like the British Paras, a very united unit – to them esprit de corps is paramount.
Valdemar: Your analysis of the event makes sense. Pero ang paglagay ng fake money took place on their way to deliver the “atatsi kis”.
Anna,
I’m learning a lot about the military from you. At first I thought ganun lang kasimple ang kalakaran sa militar until Gloria and Asspweron took the helm. This is a crash course, heheh!
Kaunting pagtutuwid lang po: Pugutan hindi pugotan. Taga saan ka ba Day?
Rose, I agree that if the AFP implodes, not only the foot troops will take the brunt of the implosion but everybody will lose – the institutions will become shaky. The ‘chaos’ can only serve to strengthen the Surrender Gang headed by Gloria and Esperon.
But that can only happen if the “news” that the marines were sacrificed reached the bowels of the braver units of the AFP, that’s when restiveness might happen. But truth is I have misgivings – I think that in spite of the “danger of restiveness”, nothing will happen. Our APF is basically not cohesive. There’s a moral vaccum that makes it difficult to be cohesive.
You know Chi, in reality I’ve never believed that the AFP is capable of launching a successful coup d’état.
The Angie Reyes-led mutiny succeeded because it was organized, galvanized, and led by civilians (it was really just a mutiny because there was no movement of troops to take over important institutions or zones, i.e., airports, broadcast stations, etc.)
In that sense and ironically enough, Banana Republics are more progressive in the military sense than our republic.
Not because our military men are physically coward but to me, it is their lack of moral courage that makes them incapable of committing a coup d’état to topple a corrupt civilian government (not that I am for a coup d’état at all and certainly not with the kind of AFP leadership we have) – or we know that moral courage is the backbone of any successful military or para-military undertaking.
Adebrux, I have not read your blog (MBW?) so may I ask if you mentioned if Dolorfino, who blurted early in the hostage taking that Bossi will be free before the day is over, has been banished to Antarctica to cool off and zip his mouth?
Artsee: Thanks for the correction. I am from Antique but unlike Ellen my Tagalog is bako bako like the roads in Antique- very rural.
AdB- re cohesiveness of the army.. can not Sen Trillanes, Biazon & Co. inspire then to be one to remove corruption?
Session will begin Monday, and I hope Sen. Trillanes will be given permission to attend para face to face sila ni Gloria. I would love to see that..Trillanes face to face with Gloria…pero mukhang takot ata ang babaeng aso..
AdeBrux,
You say that “..in reality I’ve never believed that the AFP is capable of launching a successful coup d’état.” Are the Marines capable ? Just curious.
Bush to cede powers during colonoscopy.
Buti pa si Bush, presidente kasing tunay (2nd term, heheh).
Trapolita Gloria will never cede powers kahit sandali o naghihingalo na. Ganyan katakaw ang maligna!
artsee, Rose is a dear cousin of the homeowner.
Zen,
“Ewan Intelligence”.
Hi Neonate: Nope, I didn’t know that Dolforino had farted through his mouth concerning Bossi’s release. News to me.
Hi Rose: I’m afraid (but really this is just my personal thought based on my little knowledge of how the military works, RP’s included) that not even Biazonn Ping and Trillanes could bring cohesiveness in the military.
Firstly, by definition, the military is a martial institution – and as is lead by people from within that martial environment so that people who are retired and gone from service are not in a position to martial those still in service. The three senators we speak of are already retired and as such are considered GONE, completely gone from the military, no longer in their books and can no longer officially marshall elements within – and these senators know that. If they want to do anything of the kind, they have to course it through the people still in active service to achieve results.
Secondly: That being said, only those who are existing within the service can establish or have realistic influence on cohesion.
In this regard, the 3 Senators who were formerly military officers may act — and should act — as fiscalizers; the results of their actions may well — and should — trickle down to the military but officially and technically, they cannot do anything more than that — the laws that they may promulgate will be adopted but in the end it is the officers in the active duty that will make that happen — not these Senators even if they were once in the military.
That’s why it’s all very well to count on, depend on, rely that these former military officers to change things in the military but at the end of the day, only the laws that they promulgate can effect the changes that we want in the AFP.
However, it seems to me that there are 2 senators, i.e., Ping and Trillanes (I am discounting Biazon because while he is a fiscalizer today and I say good on us, he has failed in many instances to show moral courage), today who have not only the physical courage but also the moral courage to do more than just promulgate laws in the hope that they would have positive effects on the AFP — they may actually influence leaders within the military to move in the direction our two senators would like them to move.
But these two senators must be able to count on those officers and men without whom nothing can be done within the AFP that they (Ping and Trillanes) want done.
To Chabeli: Yes, I believe the Marines can launch a successful coup d’état — they possess a real and more pronounced esprit de corps than most of those units in the AFP, the capability to mobilize at short notice, the ability to accept to put their lives in the line of fire, the tactical intelligence (training) to engage the enemy in combat, but they need air power (Air Force) and a bit of help from the Rangers (Army) without whose material help, they cannot do it unless of course, they become truly vicious. Otherwise, would be difficult to succeed on their own.
If there are changes to be made in the military, the guys who can realistically do and effect them are those in the military themselves.
This is what’s happening in the British Army. General Dannatt, Army chief whom I believe has just blown his chances of becoming the chief of the UK armed forces for going public, is the one who’s going on the offensive to obtain the changes he wants in the military. His moral courage is extraordinary but that’s what sets an effective military leader from a mere follower.
Sadly, the AFP has none who comes even remotely to his heel when it comes to moral courage. Have just written about Sir Richard again in http://www.hillblogger3.blogspot.com
That’s how we can learn best..listening. I keep an open mind..ganoon kaming pinalaki- Minsan may tagnong sa akin at an Antique Assn. party– I collect Antique dolls. What antiques do you collect? I smiled at her and said- people. It is a story in Antique that when the 10 datus landed- the chief asked looking at the big black ants what the name of the place was. The native thinking that he meant the ants..answered antik! Thus the name Antique. Standing for the truth, justice.. and serving the people is a Tordes trait.
O hula? Kasi kung hula- hula an mo nga kung yayaman ako?
AdB: I thought so..and that is why it seems that our best bet and hope is for Sen. Trillanes to be allowed to attend..and the detained soldiers be released so they can use their full potential as leaders..at hindi itong tungaw ang mag lead sa bayan..Sana sa Lunes mag face to face si GMA at si Sen. Trillanes..
I joined in I enjoyed your comments and I still do..
Thanks, AdB, for your answer..just wanted some sort of an opinion re the Marines being capable & having the moral courage for an analysis I’m doing. Thanks, again.

A court martial is an inevitable feature of military service and in my case encountered two of the three roles: prosecutor and judge in a Summary Court, a witness in a General Court (the third, an accused, was not in my stars.) A seminar refresher course in Military Justice is a requisite to appointment to a commanding officer position.
A closely cropped haircut, or crew cut, even a shaved head is not an offense in the military manuals. It has significance only in the unit’s traditions. As to deliberate unjustified changes in schedules, Captain Guinolbay’s lament that “we are not enjoying our lives as prisoners.” has merit. He and his fellow detainees desire freedom, more so if charged falsely.
Rose;
You are a clever woman and has a familiarity with the “Newton’s Third Law”–For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.–I like your BMW.hehehehe! Dinaig mo pa ang radar ng NASA-National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
I like the way you fly by night. You have a good propulsion with no fuel usage. Any NASA radar can’t detect your mission, You give me a good idea to intercept you, I need to keep garlic handy in case you fly in my territory.hehehehehe!
Neonate:
Maybe, you are familiar of the military Code of Conduct. Every soldiers must know this and they could not take it lightly, and they should be familiar with it. The Code applies to all soldiers that if you are a soldier; You must be ready to give your life for your country. Never surrender your own free will. If captured make every effort to escape. Make no agreements to obtain parole or accept especial favors. You must keep faith with your fellow prisoners. The senior prisoner eligible for command, wether officer or enlisted, assumes command secretly if necessary within the a PW-prisoner of war-camp or with groups of PW’s, according to rank, without regard to service. Others obey the lawful orders of their superiors, regardless of service, they support superiors in every way.
These are a good soldiers and officers kaya kung nagpakalbo man silang lahat ay dahil sa utos ng most senior officers na kasama nila sa kulungan who is in command..Everyone of them must follow his order kahit na nakakulong sila.
Rose,
Chi;
he he he heeeh!
dyok! dyok! dyok!
pareng cocoy,
Now is the best time to kick tyanak out from malacanang. Wala na mga marines don. Wala rin mga rangers don.
Mrivera,
Heheheh!
