Protecting personal honor and dignity (2)

Last Wednesday, we ran the first part of the letter of then Lt. S/G Antonio Trillanes IV

Philippine Navy dated Aug. 8, 2003 in answer to the lies being spread by the Arroyo administration about him.

A lot of things happened in the past four years. Trillanes is now a senator although Malacañang is trying to prevent him from performing his duties to the Filipino people.

Of late, the same lies have resurfaced. Following is the other half of the letter:

Lastly and most recently, the government through the Philippine National Police (PNP) purportedly discovered a cache of ammunition and explosives together with parts of light anti-tank weapons and two ‘Magdalo’ armbands in a ‘house’ which I allegedly own. This claim is most pathetic.

I do not own and I have never owned a house or even a lot anywhere in Quezon City. As mentioned, I live with my family in the government-provided quarters of my wife at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City.

Moreover, the claim that two brand new looking Magdalo armbands were found together with the cache (which were purportedly hidden in a dump or ditch) like calling cards conveniently left behind to ensure that the ownership of the items can be so easily established is too incredible and too stupid to elicit belief. Is the government so dumb to believe that the people would fall for such a tall tale?

Finally, I have received information that the government has been desperately trying to convince NGOs like E-JUST and VACC to take on the case of a certain Anastasia Santarin to portray me to the public that I am a heartless “land-grabber” in order to try to give credence to its arms cache claim and further demonize me before the public. This is very characteristic and very typical of this administration which has shown no qualms in resorting to fabricated evidence to pin down and discredit its adversaries. Suffice it to say that I do not own and I have never claimed ownership over the subject property.

In closing, I would like to say I honestly believe that I have served our country well. I am also certain that most definitely, I have never been corrupt in my entire AFP career. I can look my accusers straight in the eye and say I have never stolen a single centavo from the government.

Moreover, I would like to state for the record that nobody paid us to go to Oakwood. We are not mercenaries. Our lives have no price tags.

As for my lifestyle in general, I would like to point out some very important points the demolition specialists and spin doctors of this administration obviously ignored and/or conveniently overlooked:

First, I do not even have my own house! My family (i.e., my wife and two children) is staying at my wife’s government-provided officers’ quarters located inside the PMA Compound. She pays the rent through her quarter’s allowance at P1,000 a month (as including water and electricity). My two children are enrolled at a simple pre-school also located inside the PMA with a tuition of P400.00 each child per month. Together, my wife and I earn around P50,000 a month and this is more than enough for us.

Second, I have a very simple, almost boring lifestyle: I do not play golf nor do I have expensive hobbies. I do not smoke and neither do I drink liquor. My time with my wife and my kids are often spent playing in parks or public promenades, watching movies or dining out in fastfood chains. This is my lifestyle and simple as it is, I am proud of it!

God has been very good to me by blessing me with a happy family and promising career and I am ever thankful for it. Then again, he also opened my eyes to the corrupt system that is pulling our country down and our people to poverty. What must I do? I could have chosen the easy path of developing apathy toward reform. I could have simply given in and join the system, enjoying the fruits of corruption. Or I could have chosen the easier path of just resigning from the service and leave the problems to be solved by the next generation.

I did none of these. Instead, I chose the most difficult path of standing up for what I believed was right, moral and just. In the process, I also risked losing everything I had: my family, my career — even my very own life and those of my friends and our men!

We are not messiahs and we never pretended to be messiahs. We are only messengers and we can only hope the people have heard our message — that the Arroyo administration has betrayed the people’s trust and the corruption in the AFP continues unabated and is principally responsible for the never-ending wars in our country!

Now, we are languishing in jail awaiting our court trial for cases where we can be sentenced to death. This is not enough, however, for this vindictive administration. It has to unleash its attack dogs in the Cabinet, in the Senate and Congress as well as in the media on us to trample upon something that we have so closely guarded and protected ever since we graduated from PMA — our HONOR.

They jeered and vilified us and now they threaten to drag us and our families, friends and loved ones down with us for reasons only they will ever know. May God have mercy on them!

Gloria Arroyo is offering the impossible. Senator Trillanes will never apologize to bogus President Gloria Arroyo. Ouster is the only option left. Manigas sila!

    Inquirer
    07/05/2007
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV might end up with just a slap on the wrist for leading hundreds of soldiers in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny — if he agrees to plead guilty to the charges and apologize to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Presidential Legal Counsel Sergio Apostol said the government has not closed its doors to giving clemency to Trillanes.

Those who may have adviced Gloria Arroyo to dangle a carrot to Sen. Trillanes for a possible lesser offense and possible freedom if he will apologize must have read the letter dated August 8, 2003. If we will read it carefully and understand every word in it, here’s a man who has the resolve to prove that he was right to say on what is wrong with this administration. What is more telling are his parting words at that time that maybe never in his mind that he will seek the people’s mandate to be at the senate. Please allow me to quote:

“Now, we are languishing in jail awaiting our court trial for cases where we can be sentenced to death.

May God have mercy on them!”

God, what a man of HONOR. A true soldier indeed. This is the man we need in this god-forsaken country.

What a poignant letter to an insensitive government led by a President who stole the presidency. I salute you Sir! I hope the justice these justices (?) will give them is not death sentence. To Sen. Trillanes it is nothing but “Give Me Liberty or Give me Death.” Didn’t we hear this before? Certainly not from Gloria or any of her staff.

  5. Jadenlou Jadenlou

    Xanadu,

I don’t think that Senator-elect Trillianes will apologize to gloria. The honor and intergity of this man is well-ingrained in his mind, heart, body and flesh. Filipinos will see him as the last man standing up to this very corrupt government.

  6. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has the time to spend and expose Arroyo’s dirty closet before his mandate expires on 2013. Gloria Arroyo is a lame duck. In fact, the Trillanes’ coup case trial has not started yet. The process may take years before a resolution of the case. Even a guilty verdict at Makati Regional Trial Court, the next step is the Court of Appeals then to Supreme Court for final judgment. I agree that Sen. Trillanes is the last man standing with honor, dignity and outstanding service to the Filipino people. Oust Gloria Arroyo!

Sen Trillanes should be allowed to serve and hold office. We have to demand this. Right?

Certainly, Sen. Trillanes will not apologize to Gloria. Never.

I could imagine, hindi lang panic kundi inggit din kay Sen. Trillanes ang nagdadala kay Gloria. You know why? If we may recall, the first time that Gloria for the senate 1992, she was at the 13th place with 24 senators to be elected, the last 12 to serve for 3 years. Sen. Trillanes is 11th place in his first try. I took issue kasi with a blogger, I think it’s Biboy, who made a comparison with both Gloria and Sen. Trillanes running for president in 2004 (?). Mas popular daw si Gloria kay Sen. Trillanes showing his mathematical, statistical what have you calculations. I argued that comparing such way did not make sense. Ito pala ang mas magandang argument.

In the desperate hours of Oakwood, may I recall, AT4 called on the people to show their support, not knowing that the first ones who intended to and quickly mobilized, Ernie Macahiya and the Guardians, and Lumbao and his PMAP, and Binay’s men, were practically sealed off from the Ayala Center by hundreds of troops who blocked all access towards Glorietta.

The rest of the people who resented Gloria’s stolen presidency, caught flatfooted by the swift turn of events, did not respond as Magdalo leaders would have wanted them to. Some were still licking their wounds from the beating they got in jail for the May 1 Erap’s loyalists’ siege on Malacañang. Some were not sure of the Magdalo Group’s real motives behind the Oakwood takeover. Others simply feared the bombs that were planted in Hotel Intercon all the way to Rustan’s, the atmosphere was deadlier tha any of the two EDSAs.

At one point, AT4 even said that if people will not support them, then people deserve Gloria Arroyo, or something like that.

I believed then that it was at this point that Magdalo had ran out of options and started to entertain ideas of talking to negotiators for their surrender. The people they appealed to just did not come. Their announcement of holding a presscon also seemed like a declaration of surrender to some that people who were still having second thoughts of whether to go or not just decided against it.

Aw, the chance that they blew!

In the midst of all these, there stood out, a face and a name, that of a Lieutenant Senior Grade Antonio Trillanes IV, whose image on TV projected that of a soldier who has chosen to do what he can to stop the rapacity of his superiors instead of just turning a blind eye and waiting for his turn to collect for himself the fruits of corruption when his time came. He was an overnight hero, even boldstars were named after him.

Four years have passed, and AT4 hasn’t changed one bit. He is even more focused and sharper (mind and tongue) and people who remember Oakwood are still as passionate about him and his patriotism.

Personally, there is no question his honor and dignity are squeaky clean that no amount of Malacañang-mounted propaganda would take him down to their own pig-sty levels.

He is surely Gloria’s one big headache.

One of the best piece I read extolling Senator Trillanes is the one written by Ramon J. Farolan on his Ramdon Thoughts. Let me post it:

Senator Trillanes won with over 11 million votes to his name, good enough for 11th place.

In terms of finances, his rivals particularly from the administration side were spending money like water. He had very limited financial support. In terms of exposure, his rivals were on television, radio and the newspapers almost on a daily or weekly basis. He had limited publicity. In terms of a political machinery, he had nothing. In terms of the all-important poll watchers, he could not afford many; most likely he had none. In terms of freedom to move about and campaign, he was confined in a detention center all of the time. Yet this young fellow, relatively unknown, bested Goliaths like Mike Defensor, Prospero Pichay, Ralph Recto, Miguel Zubiri and others who were pillars of the administration.

  12. xanadu xanadu

What does the victory of Sen. Trillanes mean?

First, his victory represents the most serious indictment of the Arroyo administration. Not all the money and patronage in the world could buy enough votes for the Arroyo boys.

Second, his victory represents a pointed criticism of our justice system. Four years since Oakwood, the military and civilian justice systems have failed to resolve the charges against the Oakwood soldiers. The people, by their votes, have provided some clue as to their feelings on this matter. It is time for the military as well as the civilian courts to move swiftly in order to bring this issue to a close.

Third, our people are clamoring for new faces, not the tired, old ones that we see almost every election period. Antonio Trillanes represents just such a new face for an electorate that was fed up with “business as usual” in politics.

Fourth, there is some hope for the electoral process. But it requires sustained vigilance from citizen groups in order to frustrate “Garci”-type operations.

  13. acer acer

I am sorry…Hello Garci, hello bedol, hello abalos, hello zubiri, hello, hello ilan ang laman ko, mum di kukulangan ng 1 million. Why should the Honorable Trillanes ask for pardon. He did not cheat,he did not stole,He did not lie, ano si Trillanes sira, mag sorry na walang kasalanan. Senator Trillanes, please dont change, hold on, fight for the truth, fight for the filipino people. So sorry ,I need to tell your true color gentlemen. Be a good public servant, be a servant to all Senator Trillanes, dont follow those traditional politician, imbes na mag serve, sila pa ang umaabuso at kailangan serbisuhan, parang mga hari at reyna.Imitate Christ, Luke 22:27 For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? yet I am among you as the One who serves.

  14. The last election proves that majority of the Filipinos actually no longer believe Gloria’s lies, but with her sipping and sucking generals and fellow liars, the pygmy seems undaunted or acting like one that is why the same rehashed lies are being propagated again.

Worse is the attempt to undermine the people’s will once again with those elected by the people to increase the number of those willing to take action action the creep and her cahorts by legal process now being attracted to join her by all tricks possible.

How long will Filipinos tolerate these evil deeds? I wonder. With the implementation of the Anti-Terror Law this month, I pray that a valid resistance movement in the open will be set up. It actually does not have to be underground, you know, especially with the International Court of Justice gaining ground in trying cases of abuse by tryants like the criminal running the Philippines now. If Philippine courts will not move to have her prosecuted now, we can hope that she will have her time being tried in some internationl court.

I look forward to that day. The criminal needs to be prosecuted somehow, and so do her cohorts, including her propagandists.

  15. Hold on there, Sonny. Hindi ka nag-iisa! God will be your protector and guide. Your faith will carry you through, for God cannot be mocked. He will listen more to your prayers than to the prayers of these hypocrites.

I’ll fast and pray with you.

“But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” (Matt. 24: 13) “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” (Mark 13: 13)

  16. Meanwhile, Filipinos may try a similar national protest as the one now going on in Bogota, Columbia. Tignan natin how politically matured they have become since 2001.

Come to think of it. Ironically, this may still be the real legacy of the pygmy to the Filipinos.

  17. Tongue T: The people they appealed to just did not come. Their announcement of holding a presscon also seemed like a declaration of surrender to some that people who were still having second thoughts of whether to go or not just decided against it.

Aw, the chance that they blew!

    *****

You bet, they blew that big chance to remove the creep. I wondered why.

Frankly, I was praying the same thing then. I had the chance to watch what was going on because I was on call at a TV studio where I was doing translations of the video clips transmitted from Manila during the mutiny. At first, it was called a coup but when it was aborted and nothing untoward really happened, it was reduced to a mere “mutiny.”

I must admit I was disappointed and cursed the Filipinos. I said exactly the same things Trillanes said, that they deserved what they got!

But after the last election, I have seen a glitter of hope only to be dampened by the treachery of these people who ran under the Opposition but proved to be traitors. For me, what Escudero and Cayetano did is unforgivable.

As for Villar, matagal ko nang na-condemn ang taong iyan. I was after all right! UP alumni pa naman. Kakasuka!

  18. Over in Japan, the PM does not meddle in the judiciary. He cannot grant clemency to the criminals in prison, especially not detainees before they are properly indicted or even accused even when they are proven guilty to merit an indictment because they have not been tried and determined if they are corrigible or not. Granting clemency to serving criminals is a privilege reserved only to the Emperor, who grants such only on special occasions, not even on his wiles and whims!

The commander in cheat at the palace by the murky river is a criminal herself. She has no right grant or not grant clemency especially to someone not yet sentenced for any supposed crime he must have committed, and definitely not after 11M Filipinos have shown their approval for him to be out of jail to serve them as their Senator. That is the best that the Philippine Court, not the criminal at Malacanang, can do for the sake of justice, truth and propriety.

  19. cocoy cocoy

Who can discredit a truthful statement of a humble person coming directly from the bottom of his honest conscience? Given the fallibility on his Oakwood participation doesn’t make him look a guilty person, the court must prove without prejudice before he’ll be convicted with sufficient evidence and thrown his ass in the slammer. The possibility exist that the prosecutors obtain a confession from his comrades who recently plead guilty to a lesser crime just to save their asses that
Trillanes is the main culprit. It is even possible that their false confession might in turn, lead him to enormous conviction, he might place himself at risk of being wrongfully convicted. The true perpetrator of their action whom they called ( Kuya) will be exonerated. The empirical evidence provides reason to believe that he is at more risk from restrains in the military custody, that hinder his efforts to clear his guilt and expose the truth.

His battery of defense lawyer must suppress all the unlawful evidence in court that were illegally obtained through a false confession. This is a far cry from proving that Trillanes did not commit the crime, but that’s the only chance he can get by now if his lawyers can succeed. If not, Hail Mary! Full of Grace , a miracle and divine Mercy from above.

I cannot sufficiently express my disgust with Alan and Chiz, all four-letter words in my vocabulary (including those styled ala-Pasay Gangland lingo) just don’t seem enough. What made them do that? Weren’t they promised the right committees by Lacson’s group? Didn’t Erap use his influence?

Namfutcha naman, do they think they can just abandon their voters just like that?

    Tinamad tuloy akong mag-blog yesterday.

Ah, well, I’m taking the same stand as PSB and Skip(?), I won’t render judgement just yet. It’s premature at this time. Who knows what they’re actually up to?

Cynthia and Manny Villar are family friends, so with the Aguilars, Rigueras and Casimiros of Las Piñas. The Escuderos are close to my grandparents in Donsol and Irosin, Sorsogon, even whale-shark enthusiast Karina Escudero was a former classmate of mine in UP. Alan was a former neighbor in Bagumbayan, Taguig and we also attended the same high school, like Pia’s husband Ariben Sebastian, who was also a friend.

Malas yata ako sa kaibigan, hehehe.

  23. No, Tongue T., hindi ka malas. Good riddance nga e at least nakilala mo sila agad. Walang iwanan dapat, pero look what they have done. Mas gusto nilang sumama sa traydor and vested interest.

  24. I don’t know. Iba kasi ang situation ko. I can be worse or better and no one can be blamed or answerable but me. I can go against the Abe government for instance without me being tagged as a criminal the way critics of the criminals squatting at the palace by the murky river are being subjected to as long as I abide by the rules of law, written and unwritten. That’s why when I hear of the injustices bemedalled heroes are now being subjected, I cannot help but flare up. Thanks to this blog, however, that I can have a way to vent my anger.

I am not Philippine voter, yes, but the fact remains that the Philippines is the land of my birth though no longer the home of my people!!! You bet, it is still my concern.

  25. naguilenya naguilenya

Do you remember nong time ng trial ke Erap sa Senate? Naging entertainers tong 2 sa mga antics nila. I’ll never forget Sergio Apostol’s “Madamme Wetness”!!!

Dialysis nga raw paid with government funds.

Yuck!

  32. Been out the whole afternoon and evening on a job. Grabe itong kawalanghiyaan ni pygmy talaga. Ginawa pa ngayon No. 1 market for shopping kidneys ang Pilipinas. This should be stopped. Nakakahiya kasi sa ibang bansa, namely Japan, bawal ang kidney transplant kung hindi close relative, and only after careful scrutiny.

Dapat itong batikosin ng media to stop it by all means. Kakatakot! Grabe talaga!

I think when it comes to the Philippines, we can expect more!

  39. Come to think of it.

But I don’t buy it. This Senator is no chicken.

No way!

I don’t know with you, guys, but I know and have met a lot many gallant and real brave people over here to get persuaded by mere black propaganda. In fact, I was willing to give Cayetano the benefit of the doubt, pero siya na mismo ang umamin kaya burado na siya sa listahan ko. Mahirap nang ma-confuse ng mga balimbing. I know a criminal when I see one, sabi nga.

Si Sonny Trillanes, no doubt, ang tunay! OK sana si Lacson but I don’t see eye to eye with him on his stand on population explosion. Iba kasi ang orientation ko when it comes to what is and what is not right for the spiritual children of God. So far, wala akong conflict sa mga political stand, etc. ni Senator Trillanes for me to believe that he has been truly inspired of God.

I have no doubt that he will stand on his principles, and cannot be broken by lies and deceit by the criminal calling herself “president.” Nakakasuka!

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

Employment has been always the problem beset with every thing one can think of. We produce a lot of OFWs/expats just because we cannot give them work. But there is nothing to be alarmed of with the work/brain drain. Rich countries send out their citizens, too. If our dream is to provide everyone with work prioritize the young graduates into the government for the necessary work experience. First in first out. Retire the most senior He can start already his own racket, join the private companies or go overseas. Its better to have statistics of oldies unemployed. They should have already some savings. They consume the same quantity of feed as the young graduates anyway. But the young ones may have better ideas to start with. For the wisdom of the ex-generals may be in better use elsewhere not necessarily back in the government service.

That was an excellent idea that popped in your mind, retired the oldies and employ the rookies.100 percent agree ako d’yan. tongue,

Moreover, I would like to state for the record that nobody paid us to go to Oakwood. We are not mercenaries. Our lives have no price tags.”

Multi starred AFP chief-of-backstabbers General hermogenes crashperon, can you say this without slump? directly telling us eye-to-eye?
