Ang panalo ng pito (walo kung hindi magtatagumpay ang operasyon ng Comelec laban kay Koko Pimentel) na kandidato ng Genuine Opposition para Senado ay mataginting na protesta laban kay Gloria Arroyo at ng kanyang mga kampon.
Ang gusto ng taumbayan ay ang Senado na naninindigan laban sa pagyurak ni Arroyo ng Saligang batas at mga institusyon ng bayan. Ayaw ng taumbayan na patuloy na paghari-harian ng mga kampon ni Arroyo.
Dahil may pito o walong bagong oposisyon sa Senado, akala natin maitutulak na ng mataas na kapulungan ang mga imbestigasyion tungkol sa pang-aabuso ni Arroyo at ng kanyang pamilya na hinarang o inupuuan noon ng kanyang mga alagad katulad ni Joker Arroyo.
Maliban kasi sa pito na sina Loren Legarda, Chiz Escudero, Ping Lacson. Manny Villar, Noynoy Aquino, Alan Cayetano, at Antonio Trillanes nandiyan na sina Nene Pimentel, Rodolfo Biazon, Mar Roxas, Jamby Madrigal at Jinggoy Estrada.
Dahil mukha namang may prinsipyo si Pia Cayetano, kahit nanalo siya sa ilalim ng tiket ni Arroyo noong 2004, inaasahan rin na kakampi siya sa oposisyon.
Hindi ganoon ang nangyari.
Pagkatapos ng eleksyon, inasikaso na ni Villar ang kanyang pagiging Senate president na alam naman natin ay magiging tuntungan niya sa kanyang planong tumakbo para persidente sa 2010.
Maala-ala natin na si Villar ay hindi naman talaga Genuine Opposition. Guest candidate lang siya ng oposisyon at nagkahiwalaya sila ng kanyang mga kasamahan sa Wednesday group na sina Joker Arroyo at Ralph Recto na patuloy na dumikit kay GMA. Si Kiko Panglinan naman ay independent raw.
Alam ni Villar ang tayo niya sa oposisyon, Mas comportable siya doon sa mga kampon ni Arroyo. Kaya yun ang kanyang bagong grupo: maliban kay Joker at Pangilinan, suportado siya nina Angara, Juan Ponce Enrile, Miriam Santiago, Lito Lapid, Bong Revilla, Richard Gordon at Gregorio Honasan.
Ito ang masakit: nakuha niya ang suporta ni Peter Cayetano at Pia Cayetano na kapwa niyang miyembro ng Nacionalista Party. Nakuha rin niya ang boto ni Chiz Escudero ng Nationalist People’s Coalition na talaga namang partner ni GMA.
Ang pinakamasakit: mukhang kuha rin niya si Jinggoy Estrada.
Dahil dito, nasa majority ang grupo ni Villar na kasama ang lahat na alagad ni Gloria. Hawak nila ang mga makapangyarihang mga committee katulad ng finance, blue ribbon, defense at iba pa.
Ang natirang oposisyon na ngayon ay nasa minority ay sina Lacson,.Legarda, Pimentel, Biazon, Roxas, Madrigal, Aquino, Trillanes.
Alam ni Alan Cayetano ang aking sama ng loob at sinabi niya na kahit boboto siya kay Villar para sa Senate presidency, magiging oposisyon siya sa mga isyu na kanilang talakayin.
Paano yan, binigay nyo na ang kapangyarihan sa mga kampon ni Gloria?
Paki tama lang po ako Mam Ellen. Sana mali itong obserbasyon ko, natural lang na gumawa kaagad ng defense wall si Villar dahil matapos na manalo ang karamihan sa oposisyon sa Senado, pinaramdam kaagad na balak siyang palitan sa pagkapangulo matapos nilang magsama sama sa kampanya. Sana inuto muna nila hanggang sa makasiguro makukuha nila ang mga mahahalagang committe. Eh hindi, atat na atat na kunin ang mga committee na pinamumunuan ng administrasyon tapos papalitan pa siya. Ayan tuloy, nauwi sila sa latak na committee. Oposisyon nga, pero iba ibang paksyon ng oposisyon ang nakikita ko. Wala marunong magbigay. Nakakadismaya. Buti na lang at meron tulad ni Trillanes na sa tingin ko siya ang magiging backbone ng bagong oposisyon. Di tumitinag, talagang lumalaban. Deretso ang tingin. Tunay na sundalo. Di ko alam kung si Lenin ang nagsabi nito na bigyan mo ako ng apat na hardcore na komunista at kayang kong kontroling ang buong mundo. Sana magkaroon pa tayo ng tatlo pang Trillanes at tignan ko lang kung di natin mababago ang nababoy at nakawawa kong Pilipinas. Paki tama lang po ako Mam Ellen.
Gusto ko lang i follow up. I didn’t mean to indicate that Senator Trillanes is left leaning. Naghalimbawa lang ako na sana may marami pang katulad niya na malakas ang paninindigan. Huwag niyo sanang bigyan pa ng ibang kahulugan.

Ang basehan ng tao ngayon ay kung sino ang naninindigan sa kanyang mga salita. The GO in general and opposition in particular is now sustaining a stinging rebuke from the electorate who trusted them in the last election. The GO lost control of the lower house and with these impending turncoats forging alliance with the Devil they might lost the senate as well. Now, the agenda moves to administrations, the power of purse is shifting to administration, the opposition can now only shift in reverse. The GO has ruptured, through the demolition jobs of Villar, following suit are Cayetano and Escudero.
Villar is ideally positioning himself for 2010 as an aspiring presidential candidate, he want to extend more leverage and want to control the Senate to whichever direction he could be careless, controlling the major committee s enhance his abilities to raise campaign funds and comprise him to do so. Perhaps worst, he might turn the table against opposition to Lacson and Nene Pimentel to ground them both on 2010.If he can control it is the opposition now who are without platform, without an identifying philosophy and without an articulate weapons to advance their cause. Divide and conquer, as what’s Villar on mind.
Without no recourse and resource, the opposition in 2010 might extend it’s tentacles into the NPA, the leftist or to the many enemies of the states and it is a grave danger of becoming a sectional party with an ever declining decency and a bunker mentality.
If Gloria’s anointed successor will still be in control after her term, She and her cabals of cohort are all free to roll the dice in a casino on Monte Carlo.
That is tiyanak’s plan, to annoint the next president so that she will not find herself in the same place that Erap is in. She finds that vulnerability in Villar. Villar on the other hand may have something cooking for the people. Until he sits and assigns all these senators in place, we do not know what his whole plan is. As I can recall, when the Cha-cha was being cooked, Villar rallied the senate into not supporting the deadly initiative.
I agree that just as Honasan made a deal with the tiyanak so he will be free, Jinggoy may be selling his vote for Villar to save his dad’s conviction. Tiyanak has mastered the art of dealing. As a matter of fact she may have outsmarted Satan. Satan, as we all know represents nothing but evil but the tiyanak is like a camillon, she changes her color as she changes her position but in the end she is still the winner. But let us see if the law makers, both in the lower house and in the senate can put an end to her wily ways. Baka nag gugulangan lang ang mga ito. Let us see how they play their game. The potential will not be met, but the obstacle is one of the political culture, not political structure.
They are an structure of cunning elites and has traditionally been almost completely exempt from the law and even towering above the law, Their behavior will cripple the attempts of political and economic reforms if it affects their self interest or with no peso and dollars to fill their pockets.

I still believe that unless there is a complete Reform of the System, Politicians will always have their Own Personal Interest as their Priorities instead of the Party or of the People.
Example. A strong party system like Japan, where a Cabinet Minister, made an “uncalled comment” which is not the Party Line or Official Policy (minister of Defense) was fired out and Replaced. As far as Japan is concerned, it is actually more than that. Over here, we follow some unwritten law based on some Samurai Code, I guess, that compels everyone to try to conform to the standard norms of the rest of the members of the Japanese society. “Any protruding nail has to be hammered,” is the common adage here.
Likewise, losing face is something seriously considered here. To lose face is like losing one’s life. To redeem it entails drastic measure like committing suicide, not necessarily harakiri, which can be messy. Most common is to hang oneself now in some hotel bathroom, or jump from a tall building that can also be messy as a matter of fact. Sabog ang utak in most cases.
It’s actually good when you think of it, because it helps lessen the number of crooks in the government! 😛 I would recommend it especially for the crooks in this Arroyo government.

This reminds me of the interview I translated for a documentary to be shown in Japan in August. not beholden, to the administration.

But first I would like to make a worrisome observation about public opinion, mainly the absence of public outrage on issues that posters rant about in this blog. Could the reason be because most of the passionate, intense, patriotic Pinoys are abroad and few are left at home?
An editorial of a leading newspaper declares that the opposition victory in the Senate strengthens the Constitutional checks-and-balance system and keeps an assertive Executive in line – bluntly, avert an Ate Glue authoritarian regime. With 2010 as a milestone in the nation’s destiny, in short the Presidency, the opposition has crumbled. Even Ellen’s diehard followers are scattering and losing their single minded fanaticism. Personalities’ patronage has emerged to supplant the goal of combating Ate Glue and cohorts’ overbearing and imperious governance. Is this consensus still a common goal?
It seems the bond that kept the opposition united is disintegrating. This bond, Arroyophobia, will be completely gone once JDV’s Sigaw is moribund. Would anyone believe that Ate Glue is serving a useful purpose? She is miserable at governing and it is difficult to respect a leader that is dumpy, irascible, cantankerous, sly and mendacious. Ate Glue (emphasis on glue, a sticky substance) is ironically the current adhesive that sustains the opposition cohesiveness. ‘Opposition’ needs a new definition and goal.

Cocoy, I think neonate can handle even the fast greens. His driver shot on no. 1 was cautious yet maximized yardage, I don’t see any problem in him pitching with the sand wedge if he’s trapped in any of the bunkers flanking the plateau.

But I would like to disagree with you on both points. I’m also abroad at the moment, a lowly caregiver, but I was home during the elections and voluntarily campaigned and voted for Sen. Trillanes who got eleven million votes. The votes garnered by Sen. Loren Legarda is more than 18 million. Is not that a form of public outrage, not by shouting in the streets holding demos and rallies but done in the silence of the voting places with their pen writing and voting for the names of those who opposed the administration? I could see you as one of the intense, patriotic Pinoys but it does not necessarily mean you are abroad.

O may isa pang kakampi daw kay Villar kaya hindi na kumikibo. The very same person that I actually did not like from the beginning kasi wala ring moralidad. Mahirap talaga ang mga taksil na pahamak pa.
