Lt. Senior Grade Antonio Trillanes, detained for coup d’etat charges, may be in the top 12 of leading senatorial candidates but might not be able to physically take his place as a senator should he win because of a string of cases pending before military and civilian courts.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said it would be up to the Department of Justice to decide if it will allow Trillanes to post bail in the coup d’etat case filed against him for leading the failed Oakwood mutiny in July 2003.His statement echoed that of Commission on Elections Commissioners Rene Sarmiento and Florentino Tuason Jr. who both said Trillanes may even have to perform his legislative duties from behind bars.
Sarmiento pointed out that the coup d’etat charge Trillanes faces before a Makati regional trial court is a capital offense and therefore not bailable. Trillanes also faces a court martial for the same charge.
“Normally, those accused with crimes which carry penalties less than death are released on bail, [while those accused of crimes] which carry the penalty of capital punishment have to be assessed if the evidence is strong…It’s up to the court’s discretion,” Sarmiento said.
With regard to Trillanes’s good showing in the partial and unofficial tallies of media networks and the National Citizen’s Movement for Free Elections,
Ermita said he believes that the detained soldier received “sympathy votes.”He added that voters might have seen in Trillanes qualities of being ambitious and pro-reform.
He, however, said tht Trillanes faces a tough task should he win a Senate seat. He said the people would certainly watch out for the performance of
Trillanes with regard to pushing for reforms and creation of laws against corruption, which have been part of the detained officer’s platform of government.Trillanes and re-electionist Sen. Panfilo Lacson and comebacking independent bet Gregorio Honasan are leading the results of the local absentee voting tally. Most of those who voted in the local absentee polls were soldiers.
As of 4:41 p.m. Wednesday Trillanes was at 13th spot in the ongoing partial and unofficial count of NAMFREL. He was at 8th-12th in the exit poll commissioned by Pulse Asia and ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.
The STI/ABS-CBN media count concluded Tuesday, meanwhile, saw Trillanes at ninth spot with 958,811 votes.
Update: as of Namfrel’s May 17, 2007, 5 a.m. posting, Trillanes is number 11.
OK lang, sige lang sila. But one thing sure is that God above is letting Trillanes win for a more divine purpose, and let them try go against it, and the wrath of heaven will be upon them.
In fact, Ellen, when I saw the news after coming home from a two-day ordeal making sure our pollwatchers have done their best to protect the votes of Filipinos in Japan that Trillanes was in the Magic 12, I felt humbled and prayed for there was a time when I had allowed myself to be persuaded by these crooks to believe that Trillanes might not win even when the Still Small Voice whispered otherwise.

I understand military officials are investigating the possibility that members of the Armed Forces helped Trillanes in the campaign.
Ellen, I have a feeling na halos lahat ng families and friends ng mga sundalo bumoto kay Trillanes. These soldiers need not campaign openly for Trillanes but they did their share and the polls spoke. He is the idol of the military. Respect is earned. Trillanes certainly deserve all the support of his comrades and their families. Afterall he is languishing in jail fighting the corruption plaguing the military. Even if one has the mandate, if he is notorious, no one will respect such a person. I am of course referring to Assperon who is suppose to be looking after his men but instead he is just protecting one and only one, the tiyanak and of course himself!
Trillanes spent so little in campaign funds but his supporters put in all the work. My sister and sister in law could have easily gathered hundreds of votes for Trillanes. My sister campaigned for him day in and day out, in the market place, parties and in all occasions she attended.

This is to refute the Malacanang claim as reported by GMATV that Filipinos in Japan gave APO! 500 votes. Ang saya nila when the Filipinos here gave APO! only 86 votes with a lot many people thinking that it was the same AKBAYAN group, which is more popular. The topnotcher among the partylists was Gabriela with 127 votes. A lot many Filipinos did not even vote for any partylist.
GMATV report is erroneous. There was not even one reporter of the said TV network when the votes were counted so where did it get this erroneous report?:

They probably thought there were no pollwatchers in Tokyo since there were no Namfrel, etc. “meddling” in the canvassing of votes in Japan. They did not expect that Trillanes, Gabriela and the Liberal Party would be authorizing Filipino residents in Japan to pollwatch for their favorite candidates and partylists, and pollwatched they did non-stop without sleep for almost 48 hours. Now, we hear that Namfrel made a mistake in declaring Maguindanao as Pidal TU country. Hindi pala!

Arroyo speaks little of ‘winning’ mutiny leader

President Arroyo apparently has very little opinion on the surprise inclusion of Genuine Opposition senatorial bet, incarcerated Navy Lt./SG Antonio Trillanes IV in the tally of the votes in the senatorial race, as she showed somewhat of a reluctance to talk about the positive showing of the mutiny leader in the ongoing unofficial quick counts being undertaken by various poll-concerned groups.
In an interview with the New York-based Wall Street Journal Wednesday, Mrs. Arroyo was asked on Trillanes’ good showing in the senatorial race.
“Well, it’s (still) too close to call,” she tersely answered.
When asked if she was hoping for coup attempts against her administration to be a thing of the past once Trillanes wins one of the 12 available senatorial seats, Mrs. Arroyo replied: “Yeah, maybe.”

Because to them, if they voted and Assperon’s men will be switching the votes anyway, para na rin silang hindi bumoto. Mabuti nga yung hindi sila bumoto kasi, kulang ng 70 ang mga botong ipabibilang nila para sa straight TUta.
Assperon and his dogs are not the usual product of the PMA. We produced a lot of good and deserving officers from the PMA. One of the political movers of Singapore now studied at the Philippine Military Academy. So the Philippine Military Academy had produced a lot of good leaders. It is only in the likes of Esperon, Ebdane, Ermita, Palparan and the like that PMA lost its good name. Let us hope that the young Trillanes and the now incarcerated officers like General Miranda, General Lim, Col Querubin and all the other incarcerated officers will bring back the integrity to the PMAERS. The integity that cheats like Assperon had thrown away only for their pockets and positions at the expense of everyone else.

It’s refreshing to meet officers of the AFP and graduates of the PMA who are despising what has happened to their academy, and the whole military with these crooks at its helm. God willing they will soon be vindicated.
They should have a law prohibiting a sitting president from making promotions as merely some rewards to be bestowed on those he/she marks as people who can help him/her in his/her devious scheme to subdue and oppress the people of the land. Ranks should be earned not distributed like some booties or shared spoils of wars.
Time for these PMAers to stop this bad habit of having these crooks be mistahs of the academy. They should stop corrupting the military. It dampens the spirit of those who love their country and willing to fight for it no matter what the consequence may be.
Yuko, there are more PMAers who are credible. However, due to the gravity of offenses of the rotten ones, the whole institution is disdained. It is the darkest moment for an instttution whose main motto is to defend and serve. A woman, the size of a bug has infested the institution! SUROT NA KUTO PA!
