Mc Luhan forum on election watching in Davao

Got back late last night from Davao where I participated in the forum “Who is watching Whom” as the nation goes through another election exercise. The other speakers were Yvonne Chua of the University of the Philippines and Luz Rimban of the Ateneo de Manila University.

Both Yvonne and Luz were formerly with the Philippine Center of Investigative Journalism.

The forum, second of the Marshall Mc Luhan series, was sponsored by the Canadian Embassy.

It was a great learning experience for me.

And as always, it was good to be in Davao again. I saw Peter Lavina, whose blog is linked here.

More of this later.

    Ma’m Ellen

I’m glad to know that the forum you attended in Davao City is sponsored by the Canadian Embassy. It makes me a little prouder that the country where I am working now is doing something Filipino voters can benefit from in relation to the Nay elections.

  3. Hah! Ellen, that happened to me too and couldn’t get it back on track for some time.

Btw, just got back from Lavina’s blog. Pretty good thing he’s done with his blog. Am impressed by how much he achieves in a day.

    Good luck to him.

The Media should really be watching. I know Ellen will. Noong araw sa librong Pepe and Pilar ang pangalan ng aso ay “Bantay” kaya Run Bantay Run, Ang sa akin naman ngayon ay
Come Bantay come. GO BANTAY GO. And for the TUTA Exit song- “Come on my little master, come let’s race to see who runs the faster.” We really had good teachers at the Sn. Jose Antique Primary School. Sa tanda ko ng ito= alam ko pa ang itinuro sa akin.

  5. When it does, Ellen, the best thing is shut down your computer and reboot. Usually, you get a prompting to configure your keyboard. Or, you can go to the control panel yourself and reconfigure your keyboard and then reboot.

Better clean up your PC, too, because you are target of the Internet Brigader of the pigs!

  6. Yes, those good old days. I remember memorizing Pepe and Pilar just to make good impression on my Grade 1 teacher. My mother would read the book and I would listen to her carefully memorizing what she read and remembering the page for what I had memorized. Until now, I still remember te contents of the said book even after 5 decades!

The scandals then were the NARIC and backpay scams and reason I guess why the Americans are having difficulty recognizing Filipino veterans considering the fact that there were those who were able to get their backpays and US citizenship soon after the Japanese surrendered and the Philippines got its independence amidst the chaos and over the rubbles of the war.

I would not say that those were good years either, but at least there were those who must still have some scruples unlike now when everyone is thought of being susceptible to pera-pera lang!

  7. Yup, Peter Lavina has done well with his site. His successor should be allowed to continue it when it’s time for him to go national. Good way to clear up the cobwebs so to speak.

The TUTA song pala should go like this- Bowowow come on my little master, come lets race to see who runs the faster. Sino kaya sa kanila ang mabilis tatakbo sa paglabas? si A-S-O? or si Raul Gonzales? O si GMA? At tayo naman? together with the Watching Media, tayong lahat ay mga Bantays (K-9s like in NYPD K-9s of the Drug Force) matapang, mabagsik and our song should be “Let’s have some men who are stout hearted men, who will fight for the rights they adore. Let’s start with ten who are stout hearted men and we’ll soon be ten thousand more. Shoulder to shoulder and bolder and bolder we come as we go to the fore. When ten thousand men will fight together man to man. LETS GO BANTAY GO!

Am glad Media plays a very active role now (lead role in fact) than in the past. With Media Watching in Action, this coming election is surely one to Watch and Participate!
    LET’S GO …BANTAY …GO!!!

Have taken a look on Peter Lavina’s blog. Am going to visit his site regularly from now on. Davao is my second home. We intend to make a home nest there as soon as we can.

  10. Rose:

We must be contemporaries. I remember that song, and aptly used for the runners of the Pidals—hopefully out of Malacanang, the Senate, Congress, and you bet, even the Comolec err Comelec!!! Antique na antique!!! 😛
