A Pulse Asia survey conducted April 3-5 showed the biggest net distrust for Armed Forces chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. and administration senatorial candidate Teresa Aquino-Oreta.
The survey, which had 1,200 respondents, showed the five persons having the biggest level of distrust were Oreta with 43 percent; President Arroyo, former president Fidel Ramos, and Esperon, all with 41 percent; and Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos, Sr. with 40 percent.
Pulse Asia said exactly the same percentage of Filipinos (41 percent) either distrust Esperon or cannot say if they trust or distrust him, leaving no more than two out of ten among those surveyed avowing trust in him.
Esperon’s net trust rating was -25, or 41 percent small trust/no trust against 16 percent big trust. His net rating in March was -4 (26 percent small trust/no trust vs. 22 percent big trust).
In the case of Oreta, her net trust rating was -25 or 43 percent small/no trust and 18 percent big trust. Forty-four percent are not sure whether to trust her.
President Arroyo and former President Fidel Ramos had the same net trust rating of -16. They had a small/no trust rating of 41 percent and big trust rating of 25 percent. About 33 percent are not sure whether to trust them.
Arroyo’s net trust rating in March was -15, or 39 percent small/no trust and 24 percent big trust.
Abalos’ net trust rating was -20, or 40 percent small/no trust and 20 percent big trust. Thirty-nine percent are unsure whether to trust him.
Trust in the Comelec was a different story, with 40 percent of respondents unsure whether to trust the poll body, 32 percent saying they trust it, and 28 percent saying they have small/no trust in it.
Indecision on whether to trust the National Citizens’ Movement for Free Election (Namfrel) was higher at 44 percent, with 24 percent saying they have small/trust in it and 31 percent saying they have a huge trust in the citizens’ arm.
The ratings of the two groups in March and April are almost unchanged.
Only five out of the 26 personalities trust-rated by Pulse Asia obtained majority trust ratings.
They are former senator Loren Legarda (63 percent), Senate President Manuel Villar Jr. (55 percent), reelectionist Sen. Francis Pangilinan (54 percent), House minority leader Francis Escudero (53 percent), and Sen. Manuel Roxas II (53 percent).
Roxas is the only one who is not running for senator because his six-year term expires on 2010. All the others are running as opposition candidates except for Pangilinan, an independent.
Fairly big pluralities of Filipinos trust Pateros-Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano (47 percent); reelectionist senators Panfilo Lacson, Edgardo Angara, and Ralph Recto (45 percent); Vice President Noli de Castro and Sen. Joker Arroyo (44 percent); former President Corazon C. Aquino (41 percent); and ex-President Joseph Estrada and former senator Gregorio Honasan (38 percent).
A big number or 39-42 percent are also unable to say whether they trust or distrust Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno, Bukidnon Rep. Juan Miguel Zubiri, Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay Jr., lawyer Aquilino Pimentel III, former presidential chief of staff Michael Defensor, and Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay.
The trust (37 percent) and undecided (35 percent) ratings of former Senator Vicente Sotto III showed that Filipinos are ambivalent towards him.

for some reason, I cannot feel any compassion for Oreta. Tama ka, Chi, sa pagka-ambisyosa niya, nasira siya. I actually thought there was something fishy when she attended the memorial for her brother, Ninoy, sans the widow and children of his brother but with the Burot who would be where the crowd is for pogi points after all the backbiting during and after the impeachment trial of Erap.
Now she says she is no longer considering the deposed president a friend after being rejected perhaps of getting any financial help from the Ejercitos (Estradas) regarding her plan to run again for the Senate, and the Malacanang Burot being there ready to offer the needed dough on condition that Oreta helps her clean up her dirty name with the Ninoy Aquino image.

Just reading how the personalities score on trust rating will give us a quick glimpse of portent things to come for the candidates of Mrs. Arroyo. What other surveys manifested and what the opinion makers wrote in their column will buttress the almost recognizable trend that the administration will suffer a heavy beating in the May 14 elections.
The issue is always Mrs. Arroyo. Those who are associated with her surely will bear the brunt of the disgruntled and the “hungry” electorate. If the much maligned Erap and languishing in jail for years already is more trusted, what could be the answer for it? The answer my friend, (is blowing in the rain) the Malacanang illegal occupant and her minions will have nothing but blame themselves for it for their malfeasance and misgovernance. They’d stayed in power for so long, it has to be stopped, not by bullets but by ballots.

In the last March 26 provincial election here in Quebec, the surveys expertly predicted the winners. The accuracy of the surveys they conducted was really astounding. But I think, based on scientific techniques and endowed with sharp analytical minds, our experts in the Philippines are not lagging behind. It is in this premise that what we have been reading are reliable. The experts at SWS, Pulse Asia, Ibon to name a few have their survey results almost the same with the poor showing of most candidates aligned with the administration. From the non-experts, we have mock elections in offices and schools and even the OFWs and the results are similarly giving thumb down to Mrs. Arroyo’s candidates.
The Malacanang spin masters, who are understandably the cream of the crop because there’s money to be in the payroll with the powers that be, are now in quandary how to forestall more adverse findings and surveys. Presumably unable to come up with a viable spin, they are now floating a sort of coup d’grace and that is, if we are to believe a news item, after elections, Malacanang will see to it that the survey outfits will be “out of business”.
But we are not surprise anymore with this imperious act, if pushed through.

We all know that almost all in TU senatorial slots are career politicians. They become more interested in getting re-elected or elected than doing the right thing. I believe we should elect none of them, so that it will leave room for the new politician with new ideas and noble goal to take office. Therefore, these career politicians will become a thing of the past and political corruption should decrease.

Thank God nagigising ang bayan sa tama. Remember Cha-Cha is the special pilot project of FVR, I do believe he is behind the scene on cha-cha’s movement under GMA’s administration so with De Venecia. They did everything up to the extend of railroading the ligislative system but people remain vigilant, nabuko sila.

So get real and if you want to attack Erap’s “corruption” (per your own premise), do it and do it well but don’t go around asking questions only after you’ve indicted and judged him to be corrupt. Clear?

Sinabi mo pa, Anna. over in Japan, begging is frowned upon. Dito puede mong duraan ng plema ang namamalimos because not even the physically handicapped are allowed to loiter around. Reacting to Tribune reports that an edited version of the Genuine Opposition’s issue-oriented corruption TV advertisement and three more ads having been approved and accepted by giant television network ABS-CBN, for airing, Malacañang yesterday threatened to file libel and slander suits against GO personalities and ABS-CBN, along with GMA TV for the airing of these four GO ads.
