Schizophrenia: Arroyo’s survival

Maj. Gen. Ben Dolorfino, head of the National Capital Region military command, is now acting as spokesman for Gloria Arroyo.

He gave to media Arroyo’s supposedly exact quote when she visited the Baseco compound slum last Saturday, which was: “Congratulations and keep up the good work.”

We have no reason to doubt Dolorfino’s report because Ignacio Bunye, the one who holds the title of presidential spokesman, has not denied Dolorfino’s quotation of his principal.

Arroyo was praising Dolorfino and the military leadership for the deployment of troops in urban slums which has been protested by religious and militant groups. Party list legislators identified with progressive groups have denounced the presence of troops in 26 depressed barangays in Metro Manila as a form of intimidating residents against voting their parties like Bayan Muna, Gabriela, Anak Pawis, and Akbayan because they have consistently been denouncing the Arroyo administration’s abuses.

Akbayan representatives Etta Rosales and Rissa Hontiveros scored the military leadership for electioneering, which is in violation of the constitutional prohibition for the military from engaging in partisan activities.

Dolorfino’s report of Arroyo’s approval of their leftist saturation drive in Metro Manila proves further that she is under the control of the military leadership led by AFP chief Hermogenes Esperon.

Last week, Arroyo bragged before an assembly of newspaper executives in Asia Pacific that the Philippines is “the most democratic country in the region.” She also said that she has “no tolerance for human rights violations.”

This was the day after Philip Alston, the United Nations special rapporteur, submitted his report to the UN Human Rights Council warning of dire consequences for the country if the government fails to end the alarming rate of extra-judicial killings.

Alston, who personally investigated the case of extrajudicial killings in the Philippine last February, said “based on my fact-finding, there is no reasonable doubt that the military is responsible for a significant number of the killings. Subsequent evidence points to the continuing nature of that practice.”

Arroyo’s hollow declaration about defending democracy and human rights is exactly what Alston said in his report as “deeply schizophrenic”. He said, “On the one hand, the President has taken a range of positive initiatives. On the other hand, the military and many key officials have buried their collective heads in the sand and announced that business will continue as usual.”

I suspect that Arroyo resorts to schizophrenia, which is split personality, for her political survival. And this all goes back to the Original Sin as heard in the Hello Garci tapes.

Can she tell her chief of staff that insurgency is not solved by killing suspected enemies? Of course not. As commander-in-chief, can she relieve Esperon if she is not followed? Of course not. What if Esperon and the other officials who participated in the tampering of the 2004 election results decide to sing?

It’s elementary that insurgency breeds in an environment of poverty, discontent, and injustice. Ask the upright soldiers, those who are trying hard to retain their idealism, about the situation in the military these days and they will tell you about rampant corruption.

It’s not only the military that is corrupt. It’s all over. We are not the number most corrupt country in Asia for nothing. Corruption is what makes this country poor. Corruption is what makes the justice system in this country unjust. Gloria Arroyo cannot stop corruption because that’s how she satisfies those who cheated for her.

This was articulated in the US Senate hearing on human rights situation in the Philippines early this month by Eugene Martin, former deputy head of the US Embassy in Manila who is now with the US Institute of Peace when he questioned Arroyo’s capability to take steps to end the extrajudicial killings, saying she has become “politically weak” since her controversial election in 2004 and banked on military support.

A reading about schizoprenia showed that when untreated or unsuccessfully treated, could lead to marked deterioration or regression in the patient’s behavior . I’m afraid that Alston’s warning of “dire consequences” could include this.

  7. artsee artsee

Mang Nelbar, walang pinagkaiba noong EDSA 1 at 2.

  12. I sympathize with the family of the soldier, who was slain to justify the deployment of these soldiers in Manila that is definitely condemnable and a reason for Manilans to get angry.

Yup, you bet, it is an inside job. The poor fellow must have been one of those showing disgust for this brazenness.

With the idiot patting the soldiers as they insult the policemen in Manila, who are being exposed of not being able to keep peace and order there unlike in bygone days as when Arsenio Lacson was the Mayor of Manila, and Manila was pretty safe and Manilans knew how to abide by the rules, we know for sure that she, her husband and her lackeys are apt to cheat once more, and this time, more disgustingly brazen and outrageous.

He would be his greatest critic the way he punched hard on those presidents, et al in his radio program “In This Corner” that I used to listen to with my father, who was a good friend of the mayor.

  13. Ellen,

Reporters should actually check on the people being checked up by the military in Baseco. I have a feeling they are being medically checked for recommendation as possible kidney-transplant donors.

The Japanese and other foreigners in fact know where they can shop around for kidneys and other organs may be that are in pairs and can be donated for a big sum of money. At least, the name “donor” sounds much better than being paid to kill some foreigners for insurance as in “mamamataytao.”

I have translated video interviews in fact for showing on Japanese TVs of this organ transplant scam that the Tiyanak is immorally promoting overseas aside from pimping Filipino workers in other countries, even to countries where they are not wholeheartedly welcome. The Japanese are aware of the racket. How come Filipinos are not aware of this?

  14. artsee artsee

Clear as crystal, the Tianak suffers from schizoprenia. One personality believes that she’s the president of the Philippines, the other one believes that God talks to her!
    (pahiram Tongue)

  20. I seem to remember that there was talk awhile back of an ‘inside malaca’ rebellion plan, if these idiots in the Security Cluster become afraid that the opposition will win the election, with schizoglo there I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened. I have a gut feeling the election wont happen.

  21. artsee artsee

Posibleng walang election.

  22. Why I have this gut feeling is because if there is an election this schizoglo will need to win heavily. For schizoglo to win heavily she has to cheat (even commelec have turned their backs on schizoglo). If schizoglo is found to be cheating people will go to the streets in large numbers and revolt. The only way the corrupt members of the Security Cluster have a chance to retain power is the revolt coming within malaca. Hello, is that why the soldiers are in the opposition (slum) areas, because they know there will be unrest umong the masses.

  23. Bush will be thinking that schizoglo is causing a problem Internationally to include him and will be thinking that schizoglo is outstaying her welcome in malaca and time fer her to GO!

  30. The military establishment, in claiming that their presence in the urban slum areas is for purposes of connecting with the people, is trying to put up a humane face to a long dehumanized entity.

While openly defending extra-judicial killings by way of dragging down the NPA with it, it seems to forget that the NPAs are rebels because they operate outside the bounds of the law. The idea that killing, in itself, goes beyond any justification may not be lost on the military. What’s lost is the idea that killing people becomes a million times more evil if it is perpetrated by the very establishment that is tasked to protect the people’s lives, NPA rebels or just plain civilians.

The same disorder seems to afflict Aling Gloria, too. While claiming to be president, she forgets that her claim covers everybody including those who cry out for her blood. If she claims to be president, she should stop playing president only to her sycophants. She should stop mistaking the herself for the State.

  31. Magno:

Ang ginagawa lang namin ay makipag-arrange ng meeting between him and the Filipinos and Japanese concerns here.

I don’t like Joma Sison as a matter of fact, for like you, and the rest of us here, I thought he should go home and face the charges against him to prove his innocence, but not at this time when the people running the justice department, etc. themselves do not follow the rule of law.

We should join the club—concerned NGOs—in fact to know the truth first hand. I also work part-time for the media in Japan that is why I have somehow some ways to know what are facts and what are fictions/publicity gimmicks/kabulastugans. That is why I know Ellen is telling the truth, and why I believe why God has preserved her. Kailangan siya ng mga kababayan niya!!!

You and I must help her in this quest for truth, and effort to remove those who are evil, cheat, thieves, robbers and liars from the Philippine government so that God may bless the Philippines as it should be blessed.

  47. Agree with both Ka Enchong’s take and equally with Chi’s on Gloria’s “time to move” on mode.

Pinas hasn’t stopped moving, what with the 100,000 monthly export of Pinoy OFWs (per DoLE ambition) but Gloria must go with the tide as Chi says, corruption should stop right at Gloria and her fatso hubby’s doorstep if she realistically believe in “moving on.”

If by “moving on” Gloria means for everyone to forget about the Garci affair, the joc=jok bolante affair, the Pidal accounts, the increasing corruption of the AFP, the unresolved extra=judicial killings, etc, etc, etc., then she’s just being thoroughly schizophrenic.

  48. Ellen,

Just read Inquirer’s updated news: RP readies Mideast-wide contingency plan in Iran

Good thing to be prepared but between you and me, short of a nuclear war launched by the UK, there’s not gonna be a serious armed conflict with Iran. Our Pinoy OFWs in the Middle East are alright, save perhaps for those Pinoys who are deeply scared in Tehran.

  49. Mrivera Mrivera

    alegadown,

  50. chi chi

    Anna,

Your stay in Norfolk was too short. How was the meet with the US defense over there? I left words with my cousin and hubby (that if ever you’d connect with me) to get you and company and take you to a fine pinoy resto. Next time, there should be no conflict with our scheds.

Huh, Bush complains ’bout his budget. Dems don’t want to release unless the Dubya commits troops withdrawal from Iraq in March next year.

I go with you, “short of a nuclear war launched by the UK, there’s not gonna be a serious armed conflict with Iran.”

  51. Chabeli Chabeli

    Ms. Ellen,

As a former full-time analyst (in a foreign organization) doing profile of people, saying that Gloria’s survival mode is schizoprenic is hitting the nail on the head. It’s an excellent profiling of Gloria when you say:

“A reading about schizoprenia showed that when untreated or unsuccessfully treated, could lead to marked deterioration or regression in the patient’s behavior . I’m afraid that Alston’s warning of “dire consequences” could include this.”

Suffice it also to say that most power-hungry, dictators, authoritarians, etc. are indeed schizoprenic. It goes beyond Gloria having multiple personalities, it’s more of her living an illusion that she is in control of her mental & psychological faculties to pacify herself that she is in control, when in reality she is not.

  52. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

Gloria is not only schizophrenic, she is suffering from “masaphobia”.

She’s deathly afraid of the masa. She knows that the poor communities are the breeding ground of the opposition forces. They’re not only pro-Erap, they’re pro-Bayan Muna, etc.. and really anti-Gloria.

This is why she’s sent her military pit bulls out to dessimate the opposition forces in the poor communities.

Secondly, the pit bulls serve as deterrent guard dogs for the potentially explosive situation that’s almost certain to occur after Gloria and her Team do a repeat of 2004 and is exposed for doing so.

    Stop Arroyo mayhem

It is time to speak out on, not engage in silent diplomacy while the legitimate complaints of Filipinos are ignored

    Apr 02, 2007 04:30 AM
    Desmond Tutu
    Madeleine Albright

Philippines, long plagued by the repressive leadership of President Gloria Arroyo, has reached the point of crisis.

Unrest has continued, as have the violent crackdowns. Arroyo, stubborn and unrepentant as ever, has vowed to “bash” protesters and dismissed international criticism as an imperialist plot.

Although anti-government feelings are prompted by the regime’s lack of respect for human and political rights, Arroyo’s poor management of the economy is also to blame.
The Philippines, once [almost]Asia’s breadbasket, has become, under Arroyo, a basket case.

The crisis in the Philippines raises familiar questions about the responsibilities of the international community.

Some argue that the world has no business interfering with, or even commenting on, the internal affairs of a sovereign state. This principle is exceptionally convenient for dictators and for people who do not wish to be bothered about the well-being of others.

It is a principle that paved the way for the rise of Hitler and Stalin and for the murders ordered by Idi Amin. It is a principle that, if consistently observed, would have shielded the apartheid government in South Africa from external criticism and from the economic sanctions and political pressure that forced it to change.

We are not suggesting that the world should intervene to impose political change in the Philippines. We are suggesting that global and regional organizations and individual governments should make known their support for human rights and democratic practices in that country, as elsewhere.

We should condemn in the strongest terms the use of violence to prevent the free and peaceful expression of political thought.

We should make clear our support for the standards enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Given Arroyo’s consistent unwillingness to respect the legitimate complaints of her people, this is not the time for silent diplomacy. This is the time to speak out.

It is especially important that members of the ASEAN, the EU, and the UN raise their voices, for they have the most influence and can hardly be accused of interventionism.

As the examples of Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela remind us, it is never inappropriate to speak on behalf of justice.

As in South Africa, the solution to the economic, political and social quagmire in the Philippines is open dialogue – perhaps facilitated by the ASEAN – that includes all relevant parties and leads to an understanding based on support for democracy and respect for the legitimate rights of all.

To this end, the government of the Philippines should cease its abusive practices, repeal draconian laws and bring the electoral code into line with regional and international standards.

With crisis comes opportunity. This is the moment for political and civic leaders in the Philippines to unify around a common goal: a peaceful and democratic transition.

Members of the opposition would be well advised to overcome their differences and to speak with a single, strong voice.

In this way, reformers can demonstrate to the people of Philippines and to the world that there is a viable and patriotic alternative to the repressive and misguided leadership under which the country has suffered for so long.

Desmund Tutu and Madeleine Albright really wrote the above piece about Zimbabwe and its President Mugabe. What my friend did was to change Zimbabwe and Mugabe to Philippines and Arroyo so we can see how appropriate were their ideas to our situation. My friend apologizes to the two world renowned authors.

    Jay cynikho,

The piece your friend did is so apt for what is happening in the country today. As you say, “we can see how appropriate were their ideas to our situation.”

From being so adamant about the Human Rights situation in the Philippines, what happened to CHR Chairwoman Quisumbing ?

    Here’s an excerpt from abs-cbnnews.com (04/03/2007):

    CHR defends Arroyo in Europe

    By LOUI GALICIA
    ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau

Chairwoman Purificacion Quisumbing of the Philippine human rights commission has belied accusations that the Arroyo administration is worse than the Marcos dictatorial regime.

Quisumbing said unlike during martial law, government institutions are working under the Arroyo administration.

“First, all our government institutions are working. We have an independent judiciary which is working definitely. We did not have an independent judiciary during President Marcos’ time. Second is we have a congress. Our congress is noisy. The opposition can voice out their position. Third is the executive. The President [is] being accused by the [Permanent People’s Tribunal] and her actions are being reviewed by the Supreme Court,” Quisumbing told ABS-CBN Europe.

Quisumbing was reacting to the allegation by the jurors of the PPT that said the Arroyo administration is worse than Marcos who was tried by the tribunal in 1980.

    *****************************

CHR Chairwoman Quisumbing says that the “..government institutions are working. We have an independent judiciary which is working definitely.” They are working alright, but they are corrupt. So were is justice there ?

CHR Chairwoman Quisumbing further says that “..we have a congress. Our congress is noisy. The opposition can voice out their position.” But at what expense ? Wasn’t Gloria & her Dogs out to eradicate the Senate by way of Cha-Cha ?

CHR Chairwoman Quisumbing also says that the Philippines has “..the executive. The President [is] being accused by the [Permanent People’s Tribunal] and her actions are being reviewed by the Supreme Court,”” Gloria’s legitimacy has been in question, hasn’t it ?

What the heck is this Chairwoman Quisumbing talking about ? Sounds like somebody has been paid a hefty sum to make a complete 180 degree turn !

After reading this article on abs-cbnnews.com (04/03/2007), I’m even more inclined to believe that most actors who are politics are a bunch of air heads w/ nothing between their ears. Here’s an a portion of the article:

Bong Revilla: Jun Ducat film a ‘good idea’

The life story of Manila hostage-taker Armando “Jun” Ducat Jr. would make a good movie, Sen. and actor Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. told ABS-CBN’s “The Buzz” on Sunday.

Revilla, who is the godfather of one of Ducat’s children, was one of the negotiators who talked to the hostage-taker during the hostage crisis on Wednesday last week.

The actor-turned-politician, however, dismissed the idea of playing his “kumpare” onscreen.

(Jun Ducat’s life story would make a good movie. But another actor should play the title role because if I did it, it would smack of self-promotion).”

    *****************************

Comments like this make me think that Bong Revilla is just another opportunist w/ no substance whatsoever. He isn’t any better than his father. Bong should just stick to what he does best. Act.

  57. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

Alston has confirmed my prognosis. When I said in the past that Gloria is a Jekyll-and-Hyde case, I think it was Yuko who said, “Jekyll/Hyde had a good side. Gloria doesn’t”

    —–

It’s probably the weirdest variant case of schizophrenia, one in which the patient’s sickness is triggered instantly, whenever a microphone is near the mouth.

The symptoms of her dreaded disease include constantly lying and denying, though often symptomatically betrayed by her eyes and body language. Everyone around Gloria seems to be afflicted by this very contagious airborne bacteria already, showing the same symptoms. The culprit is the Arroyobic Bacteria.

It seems people who frequent Malacañang and all gov’t offices visited by the bacterial host have been affected and it is observed to be spreading in the administration campaign sorties.

    —–

The only effective cure known so far: Money, in large doses, 3 times a day.

It is an expensive disease to treat but no problem since other people are paying the bill.

    —–

The new antidote is about to pass the clinical testing stage: the silver bullet. It is seen as a more correct prescription and the effects are longer-lasting. It’s cost efficient, too, since one shot is all you need to stop the bacterium from spreading.

  58. On Purificacion Quisumbing, I don’t know if this has something to do with her husband’s ambition to be Supreme Court justice.

  59. On Purificacion Quisumbing, until this moment I believed in and trusted Purificacion Quisumbing on her consistently outspoken views on Human Rights but it seems that many find it difficult, even her, to be consistent in calling a spade a spade and suddenly when apparently speaking to Europe abs-cbnnews.com (04/03/2007) calls it a shovel! Now thats what I call ambitious. Is this Jekyll & Hyde strait of our political life in the Philippines contagious!

  60. TonGuE-tWisTeD Said: April 3rd, 2007 at 5:50 am

“It’s probably the weirdest variant case of schizophrenia”

Emphasise on ‘weirdest’ when we have witnessed schizoglo making her contriversal manoeuvres under the cover of darkness.

    ******

TT, you’re giving me an idea. What I plan to do now is collect these one yens from concerned Filipinos, and see how big their sentiments are against these werewolves surrounding the Master Beasts of a Pidal husband and wife. Literally, the one yen is made of sterling silver. Whatever one silver yen we get to collect will go to the GO election fund. It’s clean, legitimate money from the pockets of FILIPINOS ONLY, not Japanese!

    Thanks.

There should be only black and white, no gray in between. Iyan ang ipinukpok ng tatay ko sa amin mga anak niya as matter of fact. I actually did not realize that he was thinking more Japanese than Filipino then! Ganyan kasi kami dito sa Japan. No gray, only black and white!

Golly, parang story ni Jesse James, the bandit who was at least featured as a bandit who got what he wanted—died in shame!!!

  63. Anna:

CNN just made a ran of the Iran crisis. Americans can learn from the lessons of the past. Hopefully, this showdown between the US and Iran will not prove catastrophic to mankind.

  64. Anna:

Just watched a special report on Zimbabwe. You’re right! It’s just like the Philippines with Zimbabwens likewise willing to still support Mugabe for ready cash and promises of prosperity I guess. At least, over there, I doubt if they have clergies supporting Mugabe unlike in the Philippines where the Catholic Church itself is corrupted with clergies supporting the Pidal plan to convert the entire Philippines into a gambling den while one priest calls for the removal of jueteng in particular! It’s the only difference as a matter of fact. Otherwise, it is practically the same!

Apparently Bong Revilla finds it cute to make a comment like that. I agree w/ you that the Hostage Crisis Ducta did was wrong & that “..No gray, only black and white!” Wrong is wrong. Period.

Pero, you know what, another angle to look at this Ducat guy is what his actions represents. That’s what is so wrong w/ the Philippines na. Moral decay ika nga.

Exclusive Report: How a bid to kidnap Iranian security officials sparked a diplomatic crisis

    By Patrick Cockburn

    Published: 03 April 2007

A failed American attempt to abduct two senior Iranian security officers on an official visit to northern Iraq was the starting pistol for a crisis that 10 weeks later led to Iranians seizing 15 British sailors and Marines.
