Walang-wala ang tiket ni Gloria Arroyo sa kalidad ng nasa oposisyon na ngayon ay tinatawag na Grand Coalition.
Kahit na may ilan na hindi ko gusto (ganyan lang talaga ang buhay, hindi perpekto), sa kabuuan makikita natin na talagang maingat na pinag-isipan ng mga lider ng oposisyon na sina dating Pangulong Estrada, Makati Mayor Jojo Binay, dating Senate President Ernesto Maceda, Malaya columnist Lito Banayo, Rufus Rodriguez at iba ang tiket.
Nandiyan ang katatagan galing sa ekpersyensa nina Ping Lacson, Loren Legarda at John Osmeña.
Ang pinakagusto ko ay ang pag-asa para sa maprinsipyong kinabukasan na pinapangatawan ng mga nakakabatang kandidato na sina Alan Peter Cayetano, Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, at Antonio Trillanes.
Si Koko Pimentel ay bago sa pulitika. Siya ay bar topnotcher. May kasabihan tayo na kung ano ang puno ay siya na rin ang bunga. Kung siya ay susunod sa yapak ng kanyang amang si Sen. Nene Pimentel, makabuluhang serbisyo ang ating maasahan sa kanya.
Ang excited ako na kandidatura ay ang kay Sonny Trillanes. Nakakulong ngayon si Trillanes sa Fort Bonifacio dahil sa Oakwook mutiny noong 2003.
Kahit marami sa atin hindi sang-ayon sa pamamaraan na ginawa nina Sonny, ngunit natin maisara ang ating mga mata sa kanilang mga nakakabahalang reklamo: ang talamak na corruption sa military.
Hindi kaagad nasali si Trillanes sa tiket dahil nag-alala ang mga lider ng oposisyon na baka madaya lang siya dahil hindi siya personal na makapag-kampanya. Nakikipag-negosasyun pa kasi noon ang oposisyon sa Wedsnesday group na sina Manny Villar, Kiko Pangilinan, Ralph Recto at Joker Arroyo.
Nang hindi natuloy sina Recto at Arroyo, walang atubiling ipinasok sa tiket si Trillanes at sabi ni JV at Banayo, nagulat din sila lahat dahil “unanimous” and desisyon. Lahat pala sila gusto si Trillanes.
Hanga raw sila sa pakukumbaba at paninindigan ni Trillanes na hindi pinilit ang sarili sa koalisyun at hindi rin naki-pag ayusan sa administrasyon.Nakakadismaya kasi si Gringo Honasan na nagsabi na welcome niya ang endorsement pareho ng administrasyon o oposisyon.
An tiket ng oposisyon ay nagpapakita ng kabutihang loob at lawak ng pang-unawa ni Estrada ng pulitika sa Pilipinas. Marami doon sa mga kandidato na kanyang i-endorso ay kasama sa nagpatalsik sa kanya ngunit isinasantabi na niya ang personal na sakit para sa kapakanan ng bayan.
Tingnan mo naman ang tiket ni Gloria Arroyo. Marami diyan ay kasama sa pag-abolish ns Senado. Ngayon tatakbo para magiging Senador. Ang dalawa diyan reject ng oposisyon. Ang isa naman kriminal.

Kung meroon man na higit na maghihinakit ay walang iba kundi si Pareng Erap mismo. Pero alam mo ba ang sagot niya? Kung ang Diyos ay makapagpatawad, siya pa kaya? Kung ako ang tatanungin mo, hindi ako pabor sa line up ng opposition. Kahit na si Osmena ay ayaw ko. Bakit pa isasama ang isang talunan at laos? Si Nikki Coseteng naman ay natalo din sa pagtakbo noon sa Quezon City. Kung natalo siya sa pagka-congresswoman, bakit pa siya sinama sa senatorial ticket? Mas may pag-asa pa nga si Imee Marcos. Dapat si Imee ang ipinalit kay Nikki. Si Koko Pimentel? Okay lang pero alam niyo ba na natalo siya sa pagka-mayor mismo sa kanyang bayan at siyudad? Kung sa akin lang, hilaw pa siya sa Senado. Dapat ay sa Kongreso muna siya. Marami ang hindi dapat at marami ang sayang. Dapat napunta sa iba pang mas magaling na opposition. Pero nandiyan na iyan. Kaya nga tinawag na Grand Coalition. Hindi lahat sa panig ni Erap o FPJ. Suportahan na lang natin sila. Pero may karapatan din tayo na mamili ng ating mga kursunada. At iyan ang gagawin ko.

The inclusion of Trillanes is good and the fact that it was unanimous speaks well for the opposition. It is a good team but some people in this blog and you ellen are right, we still live in a democracy and people will choose only those they believe in. I am inclined to vote for only seven in the team but will not vote for anyone in the administration team.
Some politicians truly disappoint me but a sports figure take the cake – Manny Pacquiao for endorsing and going to the comelec with Chavit Singson. Pacquiao is a hero in the eyes of many perhaps even in this blog but when he verbally endorsed chavit and dares to run against Darlene Custodio, he becomes in my eye a villain not a hero.
Come to think of it, Villar and Pangilinan, now in the Grand Coalition, must have earned the wrath of the Maldita at the palace by the murky river. In other words, persona non grata na sila. Nangyari na ang dayaan in the last election even regarding the OFW voting lalo na kung inaantok na ang mga pollwatchers. Dito sa Japan, mas madali ang daya kasi nakatago sa embassy ang ballot boxes for one month. May ginawang gimmick ang Comelec as a matter of fact. We questioned the embassy for it, hindi kami binigyan ng tamang sagot. Pinagbintangan pa ang Japanese Post that is in fact one of the most reliable in the whole word for competence and efficiency!

Sonny Trillanes might be considered a good addition to UNO ticket, but we must admit it was a wrong move, most definitely. I’m just being realistic as I see it, since mutineer Gloria still calling the shot. Lets not forget that mutineer Gloria has the hold of Trillanes and with the serious charged of mutiny and inciting to riot, among other things. As an active military, Trillanes could be in prison for life and not to see the daylight of the day. Mutineer Gloria should know it since she has been down that road herself, but the only difference mutineer Gloria has the backing of Sin and the Makati elites. Furthermore, lets not forget of what she has done to President Estrada for seven years now, a President of Philippines yet and Trillanes is only an Lt(?). If I’ve to offer my opinion on the matter, Trillanes life or his future still at the mercy of mutineer Gloria, and at her say so, Trillanes could probably meet his final fate accidentally while in jail. If, even Trillanes won a seat in Congress as a Senator, Trillanes will never serve a day in congress, not while mutineer Gloria in Malacanang, it’ll never happen for mutineer Gloria to put a rope around her neck. Perhaps, Trillanes will join President in Tanay for life or until mutineer Gloria move to San Francisco at old age.
Trillanes is the wrong person, wrong time at the wrong place. Just the way it’s in Philippines politics!

The people were the victim, FPJ is gone but the memory, Susan Roces famous statement, “you start it and I shall finish” never heard since from her anymore. We’ve been bitching how lousy mutineer Gloria as a leader and no one pay no heed. They just come and go and mutineer Gloria survived them all, including the series of demonstrations. As you can imagine, mutineer Gloria got what it take to be dictator. After May election we’ll be back to square one once again. Mutineer Gloria will again out smart, out corrupt everyone. I’ve nothing but respect with Trillanes and his cause, fact still remain that he’s a soldier and he swore an oath to the flag of the Philippines and the Republic. The law is hard but it’s the law. Mutineer Gloria was wrong, it doesn’t mean two wrong make it right. Yet, Trillanes should set an example not to mutiny, and to follow the footstep of Angelo Reyes and others. I hate those that they think they’re above the law or they just take the law into their hands, which is the very reason why the Philippines is a lawless, since no one respect the law and the oath they took meant nothing, absolutely. May be when we start respecting the law, perhaps things could change, but not until then.

Sorry Toney, I don’t share your pessimism. I have more faith in the Filipino people. Despite the failings of Filipinos, I believe the desire for a life based on truth and justice is alive in many of us. I see that in the many who are outraged by Gloria’s lies. I see that in the soldiers who are now detained for not allowing themselves to be Gloria cheating operators. Their courage is inspiring.
Gloria will not be there forever. All you have to think is Marcos. way back in the 70’s who would ever think that Marcos’ dictatorship would end? But it did end.
What is important is for people to make a stand for truth and justice against Gloria’s lying, cheating and stealing.

Hyphotetically, just supposing Trillanes won the election and what if he can’t serve in congress because of pending charged against him, what good is he to the people of the Philippines that voted for him? Should you advice the people to go out on the street to protest? I’m just being realistic, as I see it. I’ve learned a lot ever since when mutineer Gloria took the law into her hand, only because the people let her. I hate President Estrada then when he abandoned Malacanang, but soon got over it. My argument is about Trillanes and not the Pilipinos in general. As you already much aware that I’m a big supporter of One Million Warm Pilipinos Bodies, parked at Malacanang Gates. However, this is about Trillanes running for Senate in which I don’t see as a right move. I believe Trillanes should first to be found not guilty of charges against him before he even think of running for Senate. It’s my opinion.

Another thing, I heard so many times and being argued, who will replace mutineer Gloria or who’s better qualified to replace mutineer Gloria or the person who may replace mutineer Gloria will also be as corrupt as mutineer Gloria or even worse. I think the very point is being missed in the argument, instead citing the crimes committed the individual, people are worried of who’ll replace mutineer Gloria, it’s like a popularity contest. Certainly, the entry of Trillanes in the senatorial derby will have a lots of question. As Toney said, what if he wins?
But like Ate Ellen, I still have faith in the Filipinos and inspite of the many attempts to topple down gma, they are still trying. Sabi nga, lahat ay may katapusan and we what we are doing now is inching our way nearing to the end game no matter how long it will take. If we cannot muster the 1 million bodies as Toney has been saying, the putting up candidates to oppose the sitting administration is one way of continuing the fight. If at this point in time, those who are visibly opposing the administration will not show more courage, the masa will have nothing to turn to.
Trillanes candidacy is really a difficult task but it is also a strong statement against those in the military who were not only involved in corruption but connived with gma to cheat in the 2004 elections. Ninoy Aquino was in the same situation during the martial. Erap is incarcerated but Loi and Jinggoy were given a clear mandate because people believed Erap was unjustifiably ejected from the presidency. Although Erap is a different case as Trillanes, but who knows, the electorate may decide to vote for Trillanes with some thoughts that his victory might trigger an upheaval in the military if he will not be allowed to serve. Sometimes, the unexpected happens when we least expect it. That’s why I continue to have faith in the Filipinos.
This is my opinion.

If Trillanes wins, it is a reflection of the frustration of the Filipino people, and voting for an underdog is their answer. When he wins, hopefully, his fellow Senators and the Filipinos who vote for him will do something to take him out of the lion’s den ala-Daniel being saved by the Saviour, and make him serve his country and people.
Wala namang namatay sa Oakwood mutiny so by law, he can be pardoned, especially when it was done for a noble reason sans military protocol that in principle does not hold valid when the government is run by a wannabe criminal who has committed a lot of violations against the laws of the land, and worst, trampled upon the Constitution!!! Hindi naman mahirap intindihan iyan sa totoo lang!

I understand your frustations, in many times I was feeling the same way. But thinking things over, why should we give up when there is still an avenue to succeed. They tried to abolish elections through the People’s Initiative, hindi nangyari. They tried to railroad the con-ass, hindi nangyari. PEP Coalition has been accredited as Party List last February 02, 2007. The COMELEC finally approved our application after blood pressures have shot up and stayed at dangerous levels for several days.
This development is a testament to what we can do when we stand united and fight for the principles we believe in regardless of the hurdles and heartaches we encounter.
PEP Coalition was started by about 20 parents who could not stand the injustice done to the thousands of parents who put their trust on the Yuchengco’s Pacific Plan. We later realized how wrong we were. On the whole the preneed fiasco did not affect thousands but actually affected 1.4Million plan holders…..

Just for generalized interest, I’m not frustrated, never. However, I do understand fully what’s going on in the Philippines politics. Most importantly I’m much aware of mutineer Gloria’s crimes against the people and the Republic of the Philippines, and her capable of doing at her command. Yet to this day and after seven years nothing has even come close of kicking her ass out of the People House. That’s a travesty of what has became of the Philippines. Surely, it’s not about surrendering to mutineer Gloria, but being smarter than mutineer Gloria.
An Avenue to succeed? Well, such avenue is here and now, it has been in-placed ever since mutineer Gloria even come to power. We’ve the Supreme Courts, Military, PNP and believe it or not we’ve the Congress and yes Senators in the opposition that mutineer Gloria wants to abolish. And now we are looking for more Senators that we hope will make the difference, I just don’t buy it. Trillanes is not a saviour, nor the others. May election is another exercise in futility, and it’s not the avenue to beat the hell up of mutineer Gloria. But, I hope you and others can prove me wrong. I would like to see that day. It’s on me at Manila Hotel “All You Can Eat at Buffet Table.” Ellen you’ll be the guest of Honor.

A friend of mine from the Singapore Embassy gave me a book today as a gift. The book is entitled, “From Third World to First”:The Singapore Story: 1965-2000, Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew. This Singaporean friend of mine is always around during cocktails, parties, and official functions of the Philippine government. We engage in causal conversation and he sometimes ask questions about the prevailing issues on Philippine news and situation ranging from politics, socio-economic, and peace and order matters. He learned that I read history books and took some time explaining to him the history of the country. As a gesture of appreciation to my explanations, he promised me to give a book about President Lee Kuan Yew.
I could see that the book came from Singapore at the Kinokuniya Bookstore where he ordered. I immediately browsed/scanned the pages and read the writer’s thoughts about the Philippines.
This is just a part of what then President Lee Kuan Yew had written in his book. This particular part of the book is described during the administration of Pres Cory Aquino. “There were more coup attempts, discouraging investments badly needed to create jobs. This was a pity because they had so many able people, educated in the Philippines and in the United States. Their workers were English-speaking, at least in Manila. There was no reason why the Philippines should not have been one of the more successful of the ASEAN countries. In the 1950s and ’60s it was the most developed, because America had been generous in rehabilitating the country after the war. Something was missing, a gel to hold society together. The people at the top, the elite mestizos, had the same detached attitude to the native peasants as the mestizos in their haciendas in Latin America had towards their peons. They were two different societies: those at the top lived a life of extreme luxury and comfort while the peasants scraped a living, and in the Philippines it was a hard living. They had no land but worked on sugar and coconut plantations. They had many children because the church discouraged birth control. The result was increasing poverty.”
In November 1992, Lee Kuan Yew visited Manila and spoke at the 18th Philippine Business Conference. He said, “I do not believe democracy necessarily leads to development. I believe what a country needs to develop is discipline more than democracy.”
The observations of Lee Kuan Yew in his book/memoirs about the Philippines is still true up to this day.
Looking back at the list of candidates for Senators, I have to honestly ask myself the following questions before I will cast my vote:
1) Does this candidate has the qualities to “unite” and act as a “gel” to all the Filipinos?
2) Can he impose discipline to himself, his family and to the whole Filipino people?
You bet, the problem of the Philippines is definitely more rooted on the failure of the Philippine government to impose an effective land reform program. And this is because of the failure of Filipinos to get out of the claws of these landed gentries, many of whom actually have acquired their lands by devious tricks and landgrabbing especially during the time when Filipinos were encouraged to do some forest cleaning called “kaingin system.”
I know for a fact a lot many relatives who have lost lands to landgrabbers. Hopefully, we will see a new generation of Filipinos with more of these candidates from the non-landed gentries, huwag lang ang mga walang utak na paboksing-boksing lang!!!

Apparently afraid of the “Hello Garci” election ghost which has been hounding her since she won the presidency in the controversy marred 2004 national elections, President Arroyo yesterday appealed to the political opposition and the electorate to forget the past and avoid using the still unresolved issues facing her adminis-tration in campaign publicity.
In her speech before the 1st National Convention of the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi) at the Manila Hotel, Mrs. Arroyo urged all candidates to leave the past behind and instead focus on the future particularly on what could be done to uplift the country’s economic status.
“The May elections are about the future, not the past,” she stressed, adding “Elections should be about new ideas, not old complaints. The fighting should be for a stronger nation, not just about fighting.”

He asked the opposition to refrain from the usual mudslinging and character assassination during the election period. Pwede ba, if the administration truly wanted a clean and fair election why don’t they first denounce election cheating. Nagmamalinis pa! You must’ve a different distinction between mutineer and criminals, perhaps you can enlighten me. As I see it, there is no different, as mutineer Gloria she’s a criminal, at least we only think so, since actually she never been convicted of anything. We just making an assumption as the succession of events as they unfolded right before our eyes. Be that as it may, I would disagree with you that mutineer Gloria should be behind bars for a thousands of years, just too long of a maintenance and Philippines treasury can’t afford such. I would, however, be satisfied to hang mutineer Gloria on ship main mast, as they do in high seas, if not available, Acasia tree I would find it very sufficient.
As for Trillanes which name has brought excitement to this blog. I’d categorize him as a professional soldier and not as an ordinary civilian like many of us in this blog. Trillanes as a professional soldier swore an oath to the flag of the Philippines, which I would like to make a point that’s becoming a big joke. It’s my great expectation that Trillanes to maintain the basic tradition of a professional soldier that he is, it is my hope anyway. Of course, Commander-in-Chief mutineer Gloria set a precedent, so is Angelo Reyes and the 4-Generals caught on tapes helping mutineer Gloria cheat FPJ of his rightful place in history, yet he died of broken. As you can see, it’s appears that the vicious cycle of professional soldiers never seems to end, they don’t belong on the street for political disagreement whatsoever, that tradition must stop. In the Philippines, what can I say. Nevertheless, I would like to see professional soldiers of our armed forces that I can be proud of, so is every Pilipinos. But, if there is those like Angelo Reyes, those corrupt Generals, Trillanes and others, what would happen to our military? Keystone kops? Senator Nene Pimentel, yesterday, “..disclosed during a press conference that despite the apparent refusal of both Villar and Pangilinan to categorically declare themselves as UNO bets, both do not consider themselves as merely “adopted” candidates.
Pimentel said he stood as a “witness” to Villar vowing before Estrada sometime ago that he would run under the deposed leader’s banner when election time comes.
“At least in two occasions, we bumped into each other (while visiting Estrada in Tanay),” he told reporters.
“I think that in the case of Villar, he has committed to Erap. I was there when he made the commitment to Erap sometime ago and that means he (Villar) fulfilled his promise,” Pimentel said.
“In the case of Kiko (Pangilinan’s nickname), you know very well that he had difficulty getting accepted into UNO because there were some reservations (from the coalition). But I guess the problems have been ironed out already,” he added.”
Villar and Pangilinan had said they are running as “independent” candidates.”

Speaking of Valentines’ Day, ladies and gentlemen, over in Japan, itis a day when women try to snare their beaus with chocolates. Yup, no flowers to the ladies over here today.
It reminds me of the time I gave a box of chocolate to a guy at an airline office as gratitude for helping me get almost half of the seats on his company’s plane for my passengers to Manila. Aba, ang loko ang sabi in Japanese translated in Tagalog, ” Takei-san, may asawa na ako, pero kung talagang gusto mo, OK ako!”
Shocking! Kaya sabi ko rin sa kaniya, may asawa rin ako kaya no puede, and the chocolate was just to say “Thank you!”
