The power grab that was Edsa Dos, as related by Mike Arroyo

Since today is the 6th anniversary of Edsa Dos, we are reprinting the interview of Mike Arroyo by the eminent Nick Joaquin which appeared in the March 5,2001 issue of Philippine Graphic. This first appeared in my column in Malaya on March 5, 2001.

She had really left the Cabinet at the right moment: the timing was perfect. If she had tarried a moment longer, she would have been too late for EDSA: she would have made it there as an opportunist. And as for the ill-feeling in Metro Manila, we tackled that by going back to the door-to-door campaign: she went from barangay to barangay explaining her motives, outlining her program. And it worked. Then came the impeachment trial, and from there, tuloy-tuloy na.

There was a time honestly, when I felt I erred in advising her to resign from the Cabinet. The masa in Manila apparently wanted her to stick it out with Erap. And when she started attacking him, everything fell on us – grabe!- everything! But I told myself: it’s now or never; if we lose here we’re totally destroyed and it’s goodbye to her political career – but if we win here, she becomes President! So we really fought.

We got all those Erap tapes from Ramon Jacinto and distributed them all over. We bought one million and a half million copies of Pinoy Times to give away so the public could read about the Erap mansions and bank accounts.

And when EDSA happened, we texted everybody to go running there. EDSA, EDSA: everybody converge on EDSA! Panalo kung panalo. Patay kung patay! Jinggoy had already announced what they would do to us if they won.

Chavit Singson had Plan B involving elements of the military to strike the first blow. They would kindle the spark by withdrawing from the government, and one by one others would follow: Class ’71 would also withdraw, then Class ’72, and so forth. But General de Villa warned that the timing had to be precise because one untimely move against the government and the military would automatically defend it. The move must be made at what De Villa called a ‘defining moment.’

So I told Chavit to put our Plan B on hold until after he had testified at the impeachment.

In January we had two more meetings: he said the military wanted to move on the 13th but we said it was too early. In the next meeting, we tentatively set our move on Januay 20. I wanted it on a Saturday because the traffic on Edsa would be lighter and the public would be freer to join us there. The site we chose was, not the Shrine, but the People Power Monument:that was where we planned to launch Edsa 2. But our plan got overtaken by events.

You see, General De Villa had his Plan A, which was better than ours, because his was focused on the Chief of Staff and the Service Commanders. At past one o’clock p.m. January 19, Chief of Staff Angelo Reyes defected but we knew that already the night before, when negotiations had lasted until the small hours. By past 2 a.m. we knew Reyes had been convinced to join. His only condition was: Show us a million people on EDSA so it will b easier to bring in the service commanders.

And they asked when the crowd was thickest; we told them: from three to five in the afternoon. So they agreed to come to EDSA at around that time. But while hiding in their safehouse, they got reports that General Calimlim could not be located and their first thought was: “He’s out looking for us!” So they decided to rush to EDSA right away. When they got there, why there too at the Shrine was Calimlim! He had been looking for them all right, but to join them, not to arrest them!

Our group there was a back-up strike force. In fact, it was our group that won over to our side the PNP first. If Panfilo Lacson had resisted, he and his men would have been repelled: there would have been bloodshed, but not on EDSA. In every place where Erap loyalists had a force, we had a counter-force to face it, with orders to shoot. And not only in Metro Manila. Carillo had already been sent to the provinces; and in Nueva Ecija, for instance, we had Rabosa. This was a fight to the finish. That’s why those five days that Erap was demanding were so important. He was counting on counter-coups and baliktaran.

I was negotiating with Pardo up to three o’clock in the morning: niloloko lang pala kami. But I told him point-blank: “If by six o’clock this morning you haven’t given us the resignation letter, we will storm the gates of Malacañang!’ But they insisted on more talk: with De Villa up front, and my back channel debate with Pardo, which even became a three-way contest, with Buboy Virata pitching in.

But the threat to march to Malacañang was for real. And so was the danger of bloodshed. I wasn’t telling Gloria everything: I didn’t want her alarmed. So she didn’t know about the orders to shoot.

  3. In the Erap movie, Ellen, there was the portion where the Great Switik thanked all those military officers, including the dollar smuggler Garcia, who helped her grab the presidency. That is evidence enough of culpability for sedition and treason.

Anyway, the said movie is being seeded again, and those who are interested to get a free copy can download it via any bittorrent site. No problem about copyright because the producers are allowing free distribution of the said movie.

Just want to say what he was thinking.
    “I am a Greedy A…!

  5. If Ramon del Rosario, chairman of the influential Makati Business Club is serious about his concerns the MBC should be reproducing this letter in the press.
It would be a start for them to show they are sincere.

  6. Ellen,

The most despicable act of cowardice shown by top officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines…

Star-ranking officers of the AFP defecting to the de-facto enemies of the Republic, star-ranking officers plotting the overthrow of a duly, legally, constitutionally elected president of the Republic, star-ranking officers thwarting the Rule of Law, star-ranking officers surrendering to the enemies without a fight… Extraordinary cowardice, absolute shitheads they all were!

Why, even the young Palestinians in Gaza have far more courage than these officers who used to go around promenading with their star ranks yet failed, failed miserably in defending their commander in chief, they surrendered the Constitution, the seat of government without even giving a semblance of fight.

They are the most despicable miltiary officers I’ve ever had the misfortune of knowing! Beurrk!

  7. Re: “You see, General De Villa had his Plan A, which was better than ours, because his was focused on the Chief of Staff and the Service Commanders.”

I know Rene de Villa and know him well – he is known for his Teka Teka (just like FVR), he used to make everyone believe that he was clean but boy oh boy, he ain’t clean at all! Gloria got to him because of Vicky Garchitorena. Rene de Villa, long before he quit government to run fro president had one foot in the Ayala concerns.

He probably was a good junior officer but as a senior officer he fell in with the non-marching cowards of the AFP, he became just another coward. Ask Admiral Marcelo, who used to be Camp Commander of Camp Aguinaldo during the coup d’état heists against Cory!

“Chief of Staff Angelo Reyes defected but we knew that already the night before, when negotiations had lasted until the small hours. By past 2 a.m. we knew Reyes had been convinced to join. His only condition was: Show us a million people on EDSA so it will b easier to bring in the service commanders.”

Angie Reyes is a shithead of the first category. He surrendered the fort without even firing a shot! What a coward! None of his classmates from Calss 66 like him – they know him as a humbug, a desk officer and a crook. Perhaps the only one who likes him is ex Rer Admiral Edilberto Varona, (of the N5 fame) whom he assigned to become director of the AFP Arsenal (lots of looting can be done there. Angie is corrupt! Ed Vaca and his nephew are some of his handlers! Ask them!

  8. Among the blithing cowards who participated in the Januar 2001 coup d’état, the only one who had a bit of courage to try to do the right thing by opposing Coward no. 1 Angie Reyes was Lt General Benjamin Palma Defensor!

  9. Of courses, there’s only 1 ‘brave’ general among the blithing cowards of generals and senior officers of the AFP trying to defend the Republic, what could he do?

Defensor’s service command was the Philippine Air Force, the smallest of the service commands. He would have done the Republic a great deal of good to fight the blithing coward generals head on but he said, he couldn’t win because of logistics so gave up.

  10. Ellen,

Fatso Mike said, “But the threat to march to Malacañang was for real. And so was the danger of bloodshed. I wasn’t telling Gloria everything: I didn’t want her alarmed. So she didn’t know about the orders to shoot.”

Actually, he was bragging about the support coming from Quezon under the command of shithead Espinoza, the fella who provided the Philippine Marines with his own brand of kevlar helmets made in the back streets of Taipei.

Espinoza, who was later on given the ‘ambassadorship’ to Taiwan by moral midget Gloria and her fatso husband, ought to be hanged for treason: spying against and defecting to the enemies of the Republic!

  11. Mrivera Mrivera

  12. “Fatso Mike said, “But the threat to march to Malacañang was for real. And so was the danger of bloodshed. I wasn’t telling Gloria everything: I didn’t want her alarmed. So she didn’t know about the orders to shoot.”

This explains Anna the battery and assault of Erap’s supporters by the police and military when the Great Switik was being sworn in by Davide as “Acting President” even when Estrada was still in Malacanang as the legitimate president, and supposedly their Commander-in-Chief.

They were caught by Japanese TV crew who transmitted them to Japan to be aired on TV then. They were not included in the news then, though.

Unfortunately, those victims had no where to go to complain about what is called here as “police brutality” that over here can mean termination from service by abusive police. Members of our Self-Defense Force do not do any policing, and do not meddle in keeping peace and order even in times of calamities.

Dito kasi, Anna, malakas ang citizenry kasi naiintindihan nila kung ano ang ibig sabihin ng democracy–a government FOR, OF and BY the people interpreted as is, nakasulat kasi sa wikang hapon.

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

  13. vic vic

So Big Fatso Miguel played the Leading Part on the perversion of the Constitution (that would be treason) and the conspiracy included all the so-called who’s who in the heirarchy. And he insisted to high heaven that he is not a Public Figure. And he was willing to shed the blood of others to put his wife to the Presidency, now we know the rest of the story…

  14. Treason and sedition ang kasalanan ng mga ungas, and disruption of public law and order. Mabigat ang parusa niyan.
Baka masuka ka, Vic, when you see the Erap movie where the Great Switik thanked those soldiers who helped her and her husband get to live at the palace by the murky river. Gusto kasing maging reyna.

I wonder what other kabulastugan she will tell the Swiss when she goes there. I hope she will not tell them she had ancestors, too, from Switzerland!

Just a thought. Baka magpapagawa ng pera with her own picture on the peso! Ang tindi talaga ng ambisyon ng ungas!
    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

  15. Reading the above interview, we now know that the main author of this EDSA 2 was Fatso as when he admitted, “But the threat to march to Malacañang was for real. And so was the danger of bloodshed. I wasn’t telling Gloria everything: I didn’t want her alarmed. So she didn’t know about the orders to shoot.”

PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA! SAYANG WALA NANG DEATH PENALTY SA PILIPINAS! KUNDI LABAS NG MAG-ASAWANG GANID, KATULAD NOONG DATING PRESIDENT NG YUGOSLAVIA AT NG ASAWA NIYA!

  16. artsee artsee

  17. Chabeli:

From day one of her ascendancy even as Acting President, I suspected that the Great Switik was actually aiming to be a queen that Imelda failed in fact to achieve after reading a claim by some fake historian assigned to the National Archives that she was descended from Lakan Dula of Maynilad, which was a big lie!

I remember also Ellen writing something about some crest and family seal of the Arroyos that was displayed at Malacanang to give the impression that even the Fatso has royal Spanish connection! Buti na lang wala naman claim on connection with China’s Pu Yi, the last emperor of China! Hanggang Rizal, whose ancestors came from Amoy, lang ang Chinese connection daw nila!

If that is not madness, what is! Fortunately, there are more valid documents to prove that Lakandula did not sire anybody from Pampanga, and his descendants were named “Capulong” not “Macapagal.”

Tawag diyan, hibang! Illusion of grandeur, a kind of mental illness!

As for the Curator, buti na lang nabistong peke pala, at ang alam na gawin ay magpeke ng mga documents, which BTW is a crime not just in the Philippines but also in other countries. Tawag diyan ay “fraud and falsification of documents.”

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

  18. Spy Spy

Let us not be fooled by recognizing Edsa 2 a Revolution. It was never supported by the great majority of the Filipino people. It was simply a coup d,etat. A power grab.

GMA et al are all guilty of a serious crime.

  19. Chabeli Chabeli

I agree w/ you, Spy. Looking back at that point in time, I was fooled into thinking that EDSA 2 was a Revolution. When I saw EDSA TRES, I knew something was definitely wrong because “It was never supported by the great majority of the Filipino people. It was simply a coup d,etat. A power grab.” Yes, “GMA et al are all guilty of a serious crime.” The interview of Mike Arroyo is proof that a crime against the nation was truly committed. It should be used as Exhibit A.

  20. Chabeli Chabeli

Ooops, I meant to say, that “When I saw EDSA TRES, I knew something was definitely wrong because EDSA DOS “..was never supported by the great majority of the Filipino people. It was simply a coup d,etat. A power grab.””

  21. artsee artsee

  22. Yuko, Chabeli, Magno and friends,

Rene de Villa is as guilty as Mike Fatso Arroyo in trampling on the Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines SIX YEARS AGO!

He, as general of the Republic, who allegedely “fought” against Honasan and his men to keep the revolutionary government of Cory knew full well that he was committing treason when he connived with Fatso to breach not only the Rule of Law but also the provisions in the constitution concerning military officers…

He’s been trying to show off a persona which is not his at all while he was in government under FVR and even afterwards.

Well, his “baho” will remain baho whatever he says.

Ellen, ask him this question: WHO PAID FOR THE FLYING COURSES OF HIS DAUGHTER back in 1997 when the daughter desperately wanted to learn to fly a chopper????

If he denies that, then he’s a coward because he used Arnie Acedera and Arnie’s henchman at the time as conduits so his daughter could learn to fly gratis et amore!

Arnie Acedera, PMA Class 63, was the PAF Chief who became Chief of Staff of the AFP and it was during his term that the super expensive Camp Aguinaldo theatre thinggy was put in place.

Arnie’s brother was his partner and whom he asked to come back from the US with the following spiel: “There’s mountains of money to be made as soon as I am CSAFP!”

Arnie later on became a candidate for Congress in Pasig but lost, and lost he did miserably.

Rene de Villa and Arnie Acedera were a good pair!

  23. Chabeli Chabeli

    Anna de brux,
Ang daming bulok na sistema natin ! After reading your comments on Rene de Villa, what came to my mind was how good these BASURAS are in deception-& they make no qualms about it !

By the way, Anna de brux, I’m just curious, wasn’t Rene de Villa an “FVR man” ? Why did he quit the Ape’s (GLORIA)cabinet ? I was under the impression that Rene de Villa was anti-Ape..Just asking.

  24. Kaya naman nagbayad siya ng mahal, Anna. I remember that he almost died of some heart attack (?) soon after being appointed by the Great Switik, or was it just an excuse after finding himself falling out of grace?

Kilala ko ang pamangkin niyan who did not like the Switik but chose the Switik nevertheless kasi di daw niya matanggap si Erap! E di nadenggoy sila!

  25. Chabeli,

At the beginning, FVR promised Rene de Villa that he just might be the presidential contender for the party but FVR decided to make a volte face and supported Joe de Venecia which riled Rene de Villa.

Rene never forgave Fidel for that – they’re now at odds with each other.

Rene de Villa and Ed Ermita were FVR men through and through since the early 60s when they served in the PHILCAG contingent in Vietnam. They sort of “controlled” the military en totto from Cory’s time onward…

But Rene de Villa was never a match for FVR who was very wily. Even when the ABOITIZ when firmly backing Rene de Villa, they couldn’t outgun and outmaneuver FVR…

  26. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

Re: Let us not be fooled by recognizing Edsa 2 a Revolution

EDSA DOS was a combination of mob rule and the rule of force that overpowered the rule of law. Jueteng lord Chavit Singson and Jose Pidal are the key conspirators in the ouster of Pres. Erap. In six years, Malacanang Palace is controlled by Jose Pidal crime family in connivance with Arroyo cronies and military clique.

  27. In spite of FVR’s reputation for teka teka, FVR kept silent over many things while Rene de Villa got mad easily and showed it in public. He was no match to FVR.

Rene had a weakness: he was vindictive openly. Wouldn’t do in politics, not against FVR!

  28. Agree with you totally Diego: “EDSA DOS was a combination of mob rule and the rule of force that overpowered the rule of law.” And may I add it was not supported by the majority of the Filipino people!

  29. Yuko,

He had a bypass right after assuming the Exec Secretary position under Gloria. Because he was a double dealing SOB, Gloria two-timed him too. They all belong to the same basurahan!

  30. Chabeli Chabeli

Thanks, Anna de brux, for answering.

The final analysis is indeed they are all the same, “They all belong to the same basurahan!”

  31. The power grab that was Edsa Dos, will remain one of the most ignoble events in the history of the Republic and perhaps, may be considered the most destructive man-provoked phenomenon that’s ever struck the Filipino people these last 6 decades.

  32. Funny, because during the time of FVR, the generals were not as openly coward as they are today under Gloria.

Gloria perverted the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

  33. Chabeli,

But then, it really is just a matter of having common sense, sincerity, honesty and all the virtues needed for the country to be what it should be.

Ibang-iba sa foundation ng Japan for example. Mas matatag. I saw a documentary in fact of how the post-WWII Constitution and laws of Japan were promulgated. One that struck me was the concern and desire of those assigned to make the laws to make good citizens especially of those children orphaned during the war. They were gathered and placed in orphanages, actually homes of rich people who donated some of their assets to help rebuild their country unlike in the Philippines were those entrusted with the affairs of the country were people who could think only of themselves and the nearest of their kins! A Child Welfare Law was passed and implemented to help those children who eventually proved useful and helpful in helping Japan be the economic power it is now. The said Child Welfare Law is still in use with very few revisions and reason why you don’t see children below 16 roaming the streets of Japan asking for alms!!!

Sa Pilipinas, ginagawa pang mukhang pulubi at hinuhubog na maging blackmarketeers ang mga kabataan gaya ng sabi ni Burot that they should not be given milk but rice to take home and have their parents sell them for other needs! Blackmarketing ang labas!

And she calls herself a brilliant economist! My ass! ‘Tado din, di ba?

  34. General Joey Calimlim is an a…h. No wonder, when he couldn’t get a much better offer, he decided to get on the EDSA stage! (He had to consult with FVR first…)

  35. Sayang! One of the real generals was Volt Gazmin… He had gone into retirement, otherwise, he would have staked everything to defend the Constitution and the Seat of Government even with his life!

  36. Chabeli Chabeli

How SAD naman ! Our military seems to have really gone dowwwwwwwwwn the gutter !

I did not actually get that until I saw a picture in Malaya of two Philippine soldiers carrying the toiletries of an American on Balikatan while the American walked at their backs probably in exchange for a few dollars and some PX goods! Wala talagang dignidad! I have never seen such thing in the US bases here in Japan with Japanese soldiers acting as tsimoys of the US soldiers!

  38. Remember that picture, Anna, of a Philippine military officer in Mindanao being carried by a low-ranking Philippine soldier (like some foot soldier) because he would not remove his new shoes and walk in the water to a boat? If that is not abuse, what is?

  39. artsee artsee

General Calimlim?

  41. Yeah, Yuko, I remember.

Brig General Ilagan being carried piggy back by one of the men because he didn’t want to wet his brand new Italian boots – Hahahah! And he had no shame, doing it right in front of the American GIs who were participating in the Balikatan Exercises.

Tell you what, I sent it to a friend with the Malaysian Defence Forces and he thought it was computer generated kind of thinggy and asked whether it was real. I told him to ask the major service commander (won’t mention who) who was due to visit Malaysia then to find out if it was computer generated or fixed. I don’t think he did or could much too embarassing thing; but tell you what, the US kept that pic in their files and believe you me, our AFP generals must have been the butt of fun among the GIs…Hahahah!

    Heheh!

Speaking of computer generated kind of thinggy, here’s one:

One day, in line at the company cafeteria, Frank says to John behind him, “My elbow hurts like hell. I guess I’d better see a doctor.” “Listen, you don’t have to spend that kind of money,”John replies. “There’s a diagnostic computer down at Walmart. Just give it a urine sample and the computer will tell you what’s wrong and what to do about it. It takes ten seconds and costs ten dollars . A lot cheaper than a doctor.”

So, Frank deposits a urine sample in a small jar and takes it to Walmart. He deposits ten dollars, and the computer lights up and asks for the urine sample. He pours the sample into the slot and waits. Ten seconds later, the computer ejects a printout: “You have tennis elbow. Soak your arm in warm water and avoid heavy activity. It will improve in two weeks. Thank you for shopping @Walmart.”

That evening, while thinking how amazing this new technology was, Frank began wondering if the computer could be fooled. He mixed some tap water, a stool sample from his dog, urine samples from his wife and daughter, and a sperm sample for good measure. Frank hurries back to Walmart to check the results. He deposits ten dollars, pours in his concoction, and awaits the results The computer prints the following:
    1. Your tap water is too hard. Get a water softener.(Aisle 9)
    2. Your dog has ringworms. Bathe him with anti-fungal shampoo. (Aisle 7)
    3. Your daughter has a cocaine habit. Get her into rehab.
    4. Your wife is pregnant. Twins. They aren’t yours. Get a lawyer.
    5. If you don’t stop playing with yourself, your elbow will never get better!

    Thank you for shopping @Walmart!

  48. Isabel,

Allow me to say that your story should be told again and again to show our people that there were good men and women, millions of them, who went to Edsa 2 dictated by their conviction and moral principles and not by greed.

Edmund Burke said “All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

  49. Joeseg: where do you get those things? hehehe! Good tension reliever!

  50. Joeseg, just dropped by your favorite outpost and am impressed that you have kept the fire burning (and hopefully soon, will be used to burn Gloria):

yes, anna, and there are millions of filipinos in and outside of the country, na naniniwala na kaya ng mga pinoy na iahon ang ating bayan mula sa pagkalugmok sa pusali ng kahirapan, pang-aalipusta at paninikil nitong mag-asawang kawatan at mga kampon nila. kailangan lang ang pagkakaisa on all fronts, para bigyan ng pinakamalakas na dagok itong rehimen ni arroyo towards its ouster and punishment. dapat lang na singilin at pagbayarin ang mga ito sa mga buhay na kinitil, sa pagnakaw sa yaman ng bayan, at sa pagyurak sa ating mga karapatan at dignidad.

    Hi Anna

Good to see you here as we’re nearing 600 responses!

There’s a nice column of Ninez at Tribune today, Muted Diplomatic Protest. While the personalities involved are the main issue, GMA, Davide and Lauro Baja, what I have in mind is a certain lady, Dr. Dolores Lasan Baja, a sister of Amb. Baja, who one time I heard speak on educational system. I recall she told us she came from the UN-Geneva some years ago and perhaps, you’ve met her in one time or another.

  54. Hi Joeseg, thanks.

No, I don’t think I’ve ever met Mr or Miss Baja.

  55. chi chi

I still remember when my niece called me long distance to say that she was at EDSA, and Glueria was sworn in as acting president. Gumastos pa ng long distance para lang makatikim ng mura from me, heheh. I told her to remember that very day because it will be the beginning of the rest of eternity for her and Pinas.

  56. Chi,

Amazing – I reacted in the same fashion towards my niece who told me when I rang home during Edsa 2. My niece was ecstatic saying that finally, Erap was no more. The whole judicial acrobatics was then being filmed live and it didn’t take one to be an Einstein to realize that the so-called swearing in of Gloria was a big kick and slap on the Constitution.

I told my niece, “Don’t be ecstatic, what your’re seeing is the total downfall of the already troubled Philippines.”

I remember telling her to use her common sense – the Supreme Court had just colluded with the military to break the Constitution… I added, while Erap may be the morally inept, divesting him of the moral, legal, constitutional mandate should have been done with due process of law and not by shortcircuiting the Constitution.

My niece was surprised and said, “But Tita, he’s so hated by Civil Society!” I almost screamed at her but instead calmly said, “Civil Society is NOT THE FILIPINO PEOPLE nor do their members embody the Constitution.”

So, where are we now? In total ignominy, that’s all because some people who thought that they had the higher ground in terms of morality perverted the course of justice and in doing so forever breached the Constitution, cracking it wide open.

Gloria and her cabal of lawbreakers have brought nothing to the people and to the republic but perversion and more perversion.

  57. mandirigma mandirigma

The power of media was very evident in Erap’s downfall. Bias din ang mga reporters, both from the print and media. What the people witnessed, heard and saw were all one sided reports against Erap. Coupled this with daily mass protests in the streets, paano hindi babagsak ang isang hinalal ng milyon-milyong tao? Tapos, pinagtulungan pa ng Simbahan at Komunista. Yes, the NPAs came down from mountain unhindered. Many of those who participated in that unfortunate event are now around Erap. He’s partly to blame for being too kind hearted. That’s a sign of weak leadership.

  58. bayonic bayonic

so? will Mike Arroyo now sue himself for libel ?

  59. mandirigma mandirigma

Pasensiya na sa pagkakamali: “Both from the print and broadcast media” ang ibig kong sabihin. I remember very when those Erap supporters were being arrested and brought to jail. One ABS-CBN lady reporter was interviewing one arrested man wearing a T-shirt with Erap’s name. The reporter held his shirt as if to tear it and rudely asked the poor guy: “Erap fan ka ba?” “Bakit nakasuot ka niyan?” Masisisi ba natin sila kung bakit tinaob at sinunog ang van ng ABS-CBN? And where are the Lopezes now? Gusto man lumapit kay Erap nahihiya siguro sila.

  60. hahahah! Bayonic, I doubt it coz Mike Fatso Arroyo is a damn coward – suing himself will frighten him. Heh!

  61. Chi, Anna,

I was at a TV network helping editing the news for the morning, afternoon and evening shows that day.

  62. Sorry, Japanese-English. This should read, “I was at a TV network helping EDIT the news for the morning, afternoon and evening shows that day.

PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA! MGA BOTO HUWAG IPANAKAW SA BUGAW NA ASTA PROSTITUTA PA!

  63. zenzennai zenzennai

    bayonic,

gusto ko yung tanong mo, will Mike A., sue himself for libel?

footcha, yung role niya sa Edsa 2 is proof enough na di lang siya, public official kung di public pigyur, pa! otherwise, ano ginagawa niya niya sa likod, wheeling ang dealing, involving high officials of the land ! TREASON of the highest order!!

  64. Yuko, pakihiram na rin nga: “PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA! MGA BOTO HUWAG IPANAKAW SA BUGAW NA ASTA PROSTITUTA PA!”

  65. dugtungan pa natin: 3HUWAG IPANAKAW SA BABOY NA BUGAW NA ASTA PROSTITUTA PA!”

  66. That Graphic interview of Mike Arroyo came out before the Supreme Court came out with the decision upholding the legality of Arroyo’s assumption of the presidency even when the position was not vacant. Their basis: the Angara diary which was written long after Davide made the decision to administer the oath.

  67. The experience of Isabel, and the relatives of Chi and Yuko are not isolated. Majority of those who went to Edsa Dos are angry because naisahan sila.

I was in Edsa just for a few hours and I saw how arrogant those people were. Gemma Cruz made the stupid mistake of coming to Edsa (Orly Mercado told her to go there) and she was booed and cursed. Kate Gordon was kind enough to protect her. Jim Paredes helped her get out before she was lynched by the mob.

After that, I went to Malacañang and I stayed there until Erap left.It was so touching. Some of these are in the book I co-wrote with Australian journalist Greg Hutchinson, “Hot Money, Warm Bodies – the downfall of President Joseph Estrada.”

  68. chi chi

At dugtungan pa natin: “PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA! MGA BOTO HUWAG IPANAKAW SA BUGAW NA ASTA PROSTITUTA PA!”

  69. Ellen,

Where can I order a copy of the book?

  70. florry florry

The interview came out before the SC decision, yet hilarious davide decided to administer the oath.
Davide gambled, put his honor, integrity and legacy as bets on gloria, unfortunately, he created a monster and he lost all in the eyes of the Filipino people, save for the UN seat reserved for him by his monster queen.

  71. “Their basis: the Angara diary which was written long after Davide made the decision to administer the oath.”

Anything to pervert the course of justice! Anything to circumvent the rule of law!

Bah, they’re despicable… and these are the urban class, the educated people, the brilliant minds of the nation?

I’d rather live with the people of Barrio Bagong Silang than rub elbows with these perverts!

  72. The inhabitants of Barrio Bagong Silang are honest people, are not corrupt even if many of them barely finished elementary!

  73. Florry, just to clarify the chronology of events in 2001.

Jan. 20 – Davide administered the oath of the presidency to Gloria Arroyo.

late Jan or early feb – Inquirer came out with Angara’s diary.

March – Mike Arroyo interview in Philippine Graphic. Reprinted in my column in Malaya.

I’m not sure exactly when the decision of the Supreme Court upholding the legality of Arroyo’s power grab but definitely after March 2001.

  74. Ellen:

Me, too, I want to buy a copy of your book for keepsake and my Filipiniana collection.

  75. Ellen:

Did Angara volunteer to have his diary seen by all? Aba, ungas pala ang taong iyan ano? Did Erap made a denial of Angara’s claim after tricking him into leaving Malacanang that day?

Parang lulugo-lugo umalis through the backdoor via Ilog Pasig to his home in San Juan. What a crap!

I doubt, however, that the Americans had something to do with it. Filipinos are giving the Americans too much credit kahit na sa sarili nilang mga kalokohan!

  76. Anna:

Sometimes, mas mabuti pa nga ang mga walang pinag-aralan ang rely only on the intelligence and wisdom God has blessed them with. Tignan mo nga iyong may DPhil daw in Economics. Bobo naman!

  77. Ellen:

Orly is a personal friend although when it comes to his political activities, I don’t see eye to eye with him.

He is now in Japan, teaching at some college. The wife is working, I understand, for WHO. He seems happy now being out of politics although I doubt completely with his alleged connection with Angie Reyes.

He was a member of our church, but no longer active and does not practice our faith. So, was Lino Brocka who was the first Filipino LDS missionary who served in Hawaii.

  78. mandirigma mandirigma

But Pangilinan and Recto?

  79. Ellen,

Conrado de Quiros concluded his column today with: “Today, thanks to the stupidity of Filipinos, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been in Malacañang for six years and two days. And counting….”

De Quiros is being obtuse: Perhaps many Filipinos are stupid for allowing Gloria to continue in power with their apathy but De Quiros is forgetting that he is ONE OF THE REASONS why our country finds itself in the Constitutional rut it is in today.

He thinks that by barking loud, people will forget that he too contributed to the surrender of the Republic to a political harlot.

  80. Anna, Conrad was never for GMA from the very beginning. He was against Erap’s betrayal of the trust of the people but he was for “resign all” similar to Sanlakas’ advocacy.

In fact up to now, Conrad continues to criticize Dinky Soliman for being part of Arroyo’s deception of the people despite the fact that Dinky regrets that mistake.

  81. I remember watching de Quiros on CNN minutes after the “oath-taking” of Gloria. He was interviewed, I think after Carmen Pedrosa’s dauther interviewed Gloria.

I remember him say, “We will be watching Gloria” or something of the kind. I thought then that it was alright but what I never agreed with him was what he would later write in his column – the sins of Estrada as good enough reasons why he should be toppled in that fashion known as Edsa 2.

I didn’t think (and still don’t) that the faults and the incompetence of Estrada, constitute the ground for breaching the Constitution through a collusion of forces, i.e., military and civil society along with the opportunistic politicians, I thought and still think it was wrong but de Quiros maintained and continues to maintain that it was right.

To me, that was not the way to protect and safeguard our Constitution, the backbone of our Republic. The proof: our nation has not progressed from day 1 and continues to be divided.

  82. florry florry

Ellen, thanks for the clarification. Anyway, my opinion about Davide doesn’t change a bit. He, the Glue and company are guilty of conspiracy, pre-meditated murder and rape of the constitution against the people and against a duly elected president. Whatever their reasons it’s not a justified move. It’s illegal and they know it. They just can’t wait to fill their obsession and thirst of power and they can’t wait to satisfy their insatiable greed and have their itchy fingers dip into the treasure chest of the country. Oh my, what a group of demons, thieves, scoundrels, etc.
With what they did all hell broke loss. The country was never as polarized before; the military became the front and centre in the political arena holding the balance of power; rampant and unprecedented corruption and many many more. You name an evil deed and these guys have done it.

Speaking of the devil, the glue herself, to be brutally honest I don’t know why I hate to see her face in print especially with that smirk.

Helen of Troy has the face that launched a thousand ships; Gloria’s face launched a thousand thieves.

i like this last line of yours:

itong si mike arroyo ang klase ng walanghiyang traydor na ibinabandera ang kawalanghiyaan pero ayaw mapupulaan. tulad ng ginawa niyang patung patong sapinsaping pagdedemanda sa mga mamamahayag na ang isinulat ay batay din sa kanyang mga kabalbalan!
