The way I see that February incident (I was at the studio translating all the transmissions from Manila for inclusion in the morning, after and evening TV news depending on the turn of events then), it was more like a bemedalled soldier reaching the limit of his tolerance for what a crook has turned the Philippine military into.
He was in fact complaining about being told to plant bombs and infiltrate the peaceful rallies and turn their protests bloody for the creep and her lackeys to claim an all-out war against anyone desiring to remove them from their present exalted positions. It was no coup even when it was a protest against an illegitimate regime that has made the Philippine soldier the pathetic “sundalong kanin, labas ang tumbong!”
I remember Senator Biazon being there, but how come he has not been able to give them ample protection? I am a man of peace and I don’t want digmaan. What are being discussed here are of national interest yet everybody is free to be funny including you and me. To translate my feeligs on issues and because I’m not good in rhetorics, I join rallies and demos but avoiding violence. I don’t know if Marcos indeed was the one who corrupted the AFP. Sure, there were a lot many soldiers then who were loyal to Marcos, but that was because I think there were more Ilocanos in the military, and they actually dominated the ranks then.
My mother’s cousin, in fact, was one of them, but he rose to the rank of Brigadier General through merits, valor and dedication to duty rather than kinship with the president as he was already a general when his cousin became president.
Marcos, who was a guerrilla leader, was respected by a lot many soldiers, especially those for whose back pays he fought for, and reason why he never lost in any position in any election he ran as a candidate. They actually voted for him.
At least, pampering the generals with loots from the national treasury is something new, more like an original Pidal gimmick. If there were such thing during the Marcos’ time, it must be FVR, the Chief of Staff, who must be doing that on the side to get people to be loyal to him and his fellow plotters of EDSA 1, but where he got the money for that was a big question.
This corruption of the AFP should have been stopped as a matter of fact if this was a Marcos’ original, not flourish as it is the case at the moment. And what a big mistake to even have the military control the police!
I remember “the tong” that was a corruption in the Philippine police when we left the Philippines. Sukang-suka na nga ang mga pilipino noon sa corruption ng mga pulis, lalo pa ngayon siguro.

Frankly, the first time I saw Trillanes on TV at the time he was explaining what his friends were doing at Oakwood, I was not impressed. He was not wearing his uniform, and I thought it was just another palabas.
Later, when a friend emailed to me the term-paper he did on the corrupt government and his recommendations for a better government, I understood why he and his friends staged that mutiny that unfortunately they were just too soft as a sponge cake to fall prey to the sweet talks of Ms. Pidal’s boyfriends in the AFP and surrender before they could accomplish anything.
I just cannot understand why their other friends in the AFP are not rising to their rescue. Baka napalitan na ng bagong hukbo ni Pidal mostly from Macabebe, Pampanga! Patay!

Ka Ellen, thanks for your fairness. She was not referring to the soldiers but was reminded of the Chinese. I’m sure may magre-react din sa susunod kapag mabasa. Why can’t we just share our views without making such derogatory remarks on what particular race and group? “Those kids in Peking with their butts open” apparently was about the Chinese. Wala po akong pakialam sa Chinese kahit na marami akong kaibigan at kumpareng Tsinoy. But I think it was wrong to use such statement. Once again, thanks Ka Ellen.
