Very Gloria Arroyo

I think Gloria Arroyo’s latest flip-flop on cha-cha was driven by her fear of being abandoned by her opportunistic allies now that she is seen as a lameduck.

Yesterday morning, in her speech at the Asian Development Bank, Arroyo said she will pursue cha-cha with “urgency and vigor.”

With the prospect of her staying in power beyond 2010 courtesy of cha-cha, she can still command the support of congressmen, especially when impeachment time comes again next year.

In ANC’s “Strictly Politics” last night, host Pia Hontiveros asked Jun Salipsip of the Institute of Strategis Studies, for his reaction to Gloria Arroyo’s latest statement on charter- change.

(Five days ago,two days before the Sunday rally led by Catholic bishops and after she stopped Joe de Venecia’s Con-Ass train, she gave the impression that she was setting aside her Cha-Cha advocacy in the meantime. She said that Cha-Cha will be taken up “ when the people deem it ripe and needful, and in the manner they deem proper.”)

Unsurprised, Salipsip said, “That’s Gloria Arroyo.”

Salipsip reminded everybody that before Jose Rizal’s tomb on Dec. 31, 2002, she declared, “I have decided not to run for president during the elections of 2004.”

Ten months after, Arroyo announced that she would be running for president in the 2004 elections.

Manolo Quezon shared his conversation with Mon Casiple of the Institute of Political and Economic Reforms before last Sunday’s rally. Mon gave three possibilities:

1. If attendance was disappointing, the administration would suddenly rediscover its courage and renew the push for constitutional amendments.
2. If attendance met expectations, then everyone could look forward to the May elections and take it from there.
3. If attendance exceeded expectations, the President would begin negotiations leading to her retirement.

Possibility number one became a reality.

Jun Salipsip believes that Arroyo was never sincere in her statements withdrawing Cha-Cha. It was just a ploy to dampen interest on the Sunday rally, chimed in Monsignor Juanito Figura, secretary-general of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines , who was also in the show.

She has mastered the art of survival, the two said.

  1. Gloria is a charlattan, someone who pretends to be what she is not… a bogus of the most fake or fakest order.

    No morality whatsoever.

Just incredible how she can flip flop without the slightest remorse.

  2. Her gall is really amazing, Anna.

Forget the spin that GLORIA is a economic genius, or what have you. GLORIA is nothing but a POLITICAL ANIMAL ! Maybe POLITICAL PROSTITUTE would be more apt to describe this UGLY person !

Would a PEOPLE POWER be possible through the blog ? If in EDSA 2, people were using their handheld phones by texting to oust Erap, maybe we can do something ? TIME magazine didn’t award the bloggers as their People of the Year for nothing..just a thought.

  6. Ellen, Chabeli,

Absolutely! She’s typical spoiled brat who’s become a prostitute to assuage her brattiness.

Even her former staunch ally, Billy Esposo, describes her as a political harlot!

  7. Re: “a twin sister? Her name is SINUNGALING”

A very slim chance for People Power to succeed at this time. Not because no one wants it. In fact, survey says more than 50% of Filipinos wants GMA out. But you see, GMA is a very scheming lady. She has mastered the art of deception and has gained the knowledge of Psywar from her adviser, Ramos.

Take for example the Sunday rally, why it did not generate the expected 500k warm bodies. Because:

    1. GMA & JDV preempted it by announcing that they are backing out of their plan to push for cha-cha

    2. Red scare tactic by GMA’s generals.

    3. Setting up of check points along routes leading to the rally site. Blocking rallyist from proceeding to Luneta.

    4. Threatening participants with arrest for expressing their views and sentiments. ie… no banners, no political speeches, etc.

  12. mike_dlc mike_dlc

For People Power to succed, I guess, is to outwit smartass Gloria. It has to be planned carefully and discreetly and it has to have an element of surprise so as to catch them with their pants down, so to speak.

  16. Ellen,

Know what? I’m so suspicious of this backtracking moral dwarf in Malacanang… I wouldn’t be surprised if this moral dwarf resorted to abrogating the VFA all on her own if ever she’s faced with another massive show of indignation by the public sometime in the future (by media, politicians, leftists, rightists, center, etc.)

Gloria is perfectly capable of using the VFA for fiendish personal purpose, you know, invent an issue, create an “enemy” from the exterior to take the heat away from her person.

By creating a perceived “foreign” enemy, she could “unify” a nation. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she is already preparing for that eventuality with the VFA as a tool; she knows that a “foreign enemy” would drown any personal issue against her.

By the gods of Tutankhamen, that moral dwarf is sumpthin!

    mr. maich,

thats fairly obvious. our filipino people have nothing to “get.” we’ve “got”ten it all this time, if only people would give us credit. and instead of pounding our heads with what we supposedly do not get, show us a way where each filipino na makakatulong can actually lend a hand.

tulad ng maraming pilipino na walang koneksyon at ka-kilala, pano ba maging parte ng solusyon ang mamamayang pilipino. kung kayo may solusyon, bat di nyo isama o gawan ng paraan para makasama ang lahat. yung hinahanap mo na salita ni bonifacio, di makakatulong yan kung kayo kayo lang. give the filipino a stake in these state-making actions and you will have a following that will see the solution through, hindi lang yung hanggang sa sunod na people power, at pagkatapos problema na ulit.

either way, thank you for keeping it clear that these cha-cha issues are just palabok to a main goal of perpetuating power.

Renato Constantino’s shame is in the right place – upon the heads of all the congressmen who rammed down con-con and shamelessly backtracked when they saw the ire of the people. Truly a lot of people, me included, were appalled at the temerity and shamelessness of these mis-representatives of the people.

The CBCP said that it is a MATTER OF TRUST, referring to Gloria. Well, that was hypochritical to say the least. They were part of the conspiracy against Erap that placed Gloria in Malacanang and therefore do not have the TRUST of the people. They called for a Prayer Rally and yet catered to the whim of Gloria how it should be done. Well, the people did not come. The people sees through them.

Oddly enough, the people trust ERAP more than Gloria and even the CBCP.

If you are looking for change, do not rely on the CBCP. They will always have their best interest in mind. The trust of the people will be placed on people who are selfless. Definitely not Gloria whose priority is Gloria and not CBCP who dances to the tune of Gloria labandera.

  28. npongco npongco

Pandawan’s views are similar to mine especially on the CBCP’s (Catholic Church) role in Erap’s ouster. May I add that they did it to Marcos too. But in those two events, Cardinal Sin was alive and he was very instrument in both ouster campaign. When GMA assumed his illegal post, Sin suddenly became mute…until his death we didn’t hear from him any serious criticism against Gloria. Yet, Gloria was ten times worse that the two ousted legitimate leaders. The problem with some people; and I’m referring to devoted Catholics is that whenever we criticize these Catholic leaders’ wrong doings and expose their hypocrisy, many like some bloggers are offended.

INC already nuetralized the events at Luneta when its members personally went to Glueria to warn her.

  37. (Ellen, Off topic but I think it’s relevant… with your permission, am posting Sen Pimentel’s message:)

This afternoon, we continue our debate with Sen Enrile over the anti-terror legislation.

I know we need to combat terrorism, interdict the flow of its funds and stop it on its tracks.

That said, I find the terror bill as arguably the most terrifying piece of legislation that Congress since its creation has tackled or is tackling.

It gives the extraordinary powers to police and other law enforcers to trump the constitutional guarantees against unreasonable searches and seizures (inviolate under the Constitution), warrantless arrests, seizure, sequestration and freezing of all kinds of properties and assets even of
those who are merely tagged as SUSPECTS of the crime of terrorism.

Having studied the bill, I now understand why in the US the FISA (FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SURVEILLANCE ACT) allows bugging and recording of messages only of FOREIGNERS not of US persons. That is due to provisions in the US constitution from which our bill of rights had been lifted.

I’m having a tough time convincing others – and some senators – that we are literally tying a loop around our collective necks to hang us with as a people by enacting this bill.

In my view, we are giving evil men with evil intentions an evil instrument to oppress those who might not agree with them and cause them irreparable harm.

I’ll try to refine it as best I can. Still …

Anyway, its Christmas season again. Merry Christmas and God bless.

    Ellen.

Is there still time to push cha-cha between now and May?

Kung wala then why is she still talking about it? And why are we still talking about it?

Kung wala, then let’s focus on winning in May. And to do that we have to frame the issue this election – It’s Gloria not cha-cha. The public should be reminded of “Hello Garci.”

Cha-cha talk is meant to distract the opposition from its most potent weapon against her – lying, cheating and stealing

Re: IBASURA ANG ATTENTION SA CHA-CHA BIGYAN NATIN NG

The goal of the so-called united opposition is to garner more opposition lawmakers (80) and a shut-out in the senatorial race (12-0). If this goal is achieved, then, possible impeachment and conviction at the senate. Power to the people at the polls. The defeat of Gloria Arroyo candidates in May 2007 midterm elections is NOT a done deal since the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Benjamin Abalos has done no significant changes in electoral system reform. Hello Garci clones are still manning local and provincial outposts. Political dynasties and clans will dominate campaigns. They form alliances of convenience with the sole purpose of winning votes. Many are identified with Gloria Arroyo. It’s a tall order how to neutralize dynasties. How to defeat the Villafuerte of Camarines Sur and others?

    Merry Christmas to all cyberwarriors!

you may want to know that your friend, N. Prudente, have long ago unsheathed back his hatchet to fight evil forces.

  44. Manuel, I don’t think there’s really time for cha-cha between now and may if you are talking of legal, normal process. But with Gloria Arroyo, no one can tell what she has in mind.

She has more magic tricks than David Copperfield and Houdini combined.

You are right about focusing on the May election. (For all you know this cha-cha is also her trick to divert the opposition from the preparatins for the May election .) and Cha-Cha could be used as the issue because her method of Cha-Cha is Gloria personified- deceptive, dishonest, insincere, etc. etc.

In the campaign for the May elections, it should be emphasized that Cha-Cha is her way of covering up her lying, cheating, stealing since the May 2004 (actually long before) elections.

  45. npongco npongco

Do you know why GMA tries so hard not to continue with the election and is pushing Cha-Cha before election? The answer is plain and simple. Gloria wants to remain in power beyond 2010. If the election pushes through next May, the opposition candidates will outnumber those of the administration; that is, of course if there’s no rampant cheating. If there are more opposition solons who get elected to the House, the impeachment against GMA would most likely succeed this third time. It’s numbers game. That’s what GMA is scared about. She would find herself in much worse fate and situation than Erap.

  46. pandawan pandawan

The bishops over-estimate themselves. They do not have it in themselves to fight Gloria. And the INC always know which side of the bread has butter and so does Mike Velarde.

But before everyone else forget, it’s Christmas.

Joseph T. Dawson (1914 – November 28, 1998) was an officer in the U.S. 1st Infantry Division during World War II.

He is famous as one of the first officers (a captain at the time and company commander for G Company, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry) to make it up to the top of bloody Omaha Beach and move inland. His unit landed in the second wave at the Easy Red sector on D-Day. Instead of attacking up the beach exits, as was planned, he instead helped find and clear a path up the mined bluffs. Once at the top, he led his men to his objective at Colleville-sur-Mer, where he was wounded. For his actions that day he earned the Distinguished Service Cross.

Before D-Day Dawson served as a staff officer in the First Division and the 16th Regiment during the campaigns in North Africa and Sicily.

After his service at Normandy, Dawson continued to serve commander of G Company through the campaign in France, Belgium and, finally, Aachen Germany. Dawson’s G Company (along with I Company) held off German counterattacks for thirty-nine days during the battle for Aachen on, what was called in contemporary papers and is still called in U.S. Army history, as “Dawson’s Ridge.” For this action, Dawson’s command was honored with the Presidential Unit Citation.

After his detachment from the 16th Infantry, Dawson served in the O.S.S. He retired from the Army as a lieutenant colonel.

He enlisted in 1941 as a private, and fought earlier campaigns in Africa and Sicily. He retired at the rank of major at the end of the war.

Dawson married Melba Bruno in 1946; they raised two children Roslyn and Diane. The Dawson family lived in Corpus Cristi, Texas and Denver, Colorado. In civilian life he was a geologist in the oil industry. An elementary school in Corpus Christi, Texas is named in his honor.

In June 1994, Dawson revisited Normandy to introduce President Bill Clinton during ceremonies marking the 50th anniversary of the invasion.

Dawson was the third child of the much respected Baptist clergyman Joseph Martin Dawson and Willie Turner Dawson.

To engage into a battle with illegitimate Gloria, expect the unexpected. And you must be smarter than bogus Gloria itself and willing to lie, cheat and steal at her level, I suppose. Bogus Gloria has mastered the art of lying, cheating, and stealing, she’s the best of the best, and none can even come close. It’s quite amazing how this illegitimate dwarf of a woman can lie with a straight face in front of the 86 million people, and survived for over six years, really astonishing. Incredible, perhaps is not even the proper word for it. She’s starting to make a believer of me, that crimes does pay, especially when you have the proper tools to execute them. Surely, it’s un-argueable that bogus Gloria got the arsenal to keep the oppositions at their respective places, and she has managed to do just that. Just imagine of how many times that this bogus dwarf woman was caught lying to the people she supposedly serving, yet still holding the empire the Pilipinos has built. Of course, bogus Gloria doesn’t deserve it, but how can you make such an argument when the her dogs ready to snap you to pieces. I believe, this is bogus Gloria most kept secret of success, to put fear on people’s mind, including the motor bike drive-by shooting, and lets not forget her henerales with much to lose if bogus Gloria all a sudden out of Malacanang. cut from tribune:

Sans proof, Justice chief claims Reds killing solons

    By Benjamin B. Pulta

    12/20/2006

With himself saying there is nothing to back up his claim, Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez yesterday still insisted that communist rebels are behind the recent rash of killings in retaliation to the series of murders involving militant leaders and in their supposed attempt to “destabilize” the government.

Gonzalez then immediately backtracked, saying “it (killing spree victimizing President Arroyo’s closest political allies) could be coincidence.”

Before admitting that government probers have nothing in their hands to pin down the Maoist New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas, he had spoken of a “communist plot because they are targeting high-profile political figures and allies of GMA (Mrs. Arroyo’s initials).”

“No concrete evidence yet (against the NPA rebels). But this is one angle that we are looking into,” Gonzalez said, adding the investigation showed that “no pattern yet” has emerged that would lead to the guerrillas, “except the fact that all those killed or threatened are high-profile political personalities.”

The Justice secretary also insisted that “obviously there is a political angle (to the murders).”

The assassination last Saturday of Abra Rep. Luis Bersamin Jr., according to Gonzalez, is “really political, but we cannot discount other angles.”

He stressed that he is not ruling out the possibility that the assassinations of political leaders allied with the Arroyo administration were a handiwork of the communists in their bid to topple the government.(….)

All of Ellen’s bloggers predicted what would happen after the Sunday rally. For sure the church leaders knew what was coming too- that CHA_CHA will be revived after the low turn out of the Sunday rally. All I can say is, this tiyanak is not only thick skinned, halang pa ang bituka and pinaglihi siguro ito kay Hitler. I said it earlier in one of the blogs and I am saying it again, we should not be praying for her change of heart and attitude because that will never happen. GOD HAS HIS WAY OF PUNISHING THE EVIL ONE. Let us just pray that our country’s agony and cry for help will be answered and SOON!

How many marriages are broken because while the spouse is working abroad, the other spouse fools around. This tiyanak’s priority show be , to employ the citizens locally. BUT NO HER PRIORITIES FROM THE VERY FIRST DAY OF HER MANDATE ARE: TO CHEAT, STEAL, MURDER,CORRUPT AND FOOL THE FILIPINOS WHENEVER SHE HAS A CHANCE TO DO SO! THIS IS VERY GLUE!

Over 800 people were killed and there were no efforts from her goons to look for the killers. But look, when one of her men(the representative of Abra) got killed, all her soldiers are alerted and in less than a day there are leads. Double standards, I would say. This is again very Glue.

One is asking where the young is while all of this is going on, and the other feels that all the blood shed during that glorious period was all for nothing. I put these questions to my son and his answers tell me that the majority of the young will never be in this present fight until our generation apologizes to them for leaving them this shit hole as our legacy to them. It is our generation’s duty to the young to at least TRY to rectify matters. If only to regain their trust again. Not a drop of blood shed fighting for what you believe is right is ever for nothing. Equally, not a drop of blood shed maintaining the right that is won is ever for nothing. This is where we have failed them.

This afternoon, we continue our debate with Sen Enrile over the anti-terror
    legislation.

I know we need to combat terrorism, interdict the flow of its funds and stop
    it on its tracks.

That said, I find the terror bill as arguably the most terrifying piece of
legislation that Congress since its creation has tackled or is tackling.

It gives the extraordinary powers to police and other law enforcers to trump
the constitutional guarantees against unreasonable searches and seizures
(inviolate under the Constitution), warrantless arrests, seizure,
sequestration and freezing of all kinds of properties and assets even of
those who are merely tagged as SUSPECTS of the crime of terrorism.

Having studied the bill, I now understand why in the US the FISA (FOREIGN
INTELLIGENCE SURVEILLANCE ACT) allows bugging and recording of messages only
of FOREIGNERS not of US persons. That is due to provisions in the US
constitution from which our bill of rights had been lifted from.

I’m having a tough time convincing others – and some senators – that we are
literally tying a loop around our collective necks to hang us with as a
    people by enacting this bill.

In my view, we are giving evil men with evil intentions an evil instrument
to oppress those who might not agree with them and cause them irreparable
    harm.

I’ll try to refine it as best I can. Still …

  76. The prayer rally is not a flop. It is apparently a wake up call!

Wait till God answers the prayers of the 150,000 Filipinos who dared the threats, hassles and intimidations, for God surely cannot be mocked as what the Great Switik is presently attempting to do now, for this time, she cannot try to double deal the Lord as when she said that she would not pursue the ChaCha prior to the prayer meeting in an apparent attempt to stop the CBCP to condemn her outrightly during the prayer meeting resulting in fact in some mellowing of the priests.

But here she goes again quacking about the ChaCha because there is no denying that it is what she actually wants as it will insure her becoming an instant queen (La Reina Encantada y Delusionaria y Ambiciosa Locaret y Sira de Tuktok)!

In her vanity and silly ambition, the Great Switik is committing blasphemy and tempting the 150,000 Filipinos not to have faith in God by ordering her brigaders to spread around the fallacious claim that their prayer rally is a flop, even insinuate that God will not answer their prayers, and we all know what happens to blasphemers.

To the great 150,000 Filipinos, this is the message: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Gal. 6: 7) Ang reap you shall I know.

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

  77. Oops, sorry for the double posting of Senator Pimentel’s message. I missed Anna’s earlier post that’s why. I’ve been busy shopping with my mother, who is 88 but still going strong, for the Christmas gifts to be distributed to her children and grandchildren, and other relatives on Christmas.

The Great Switik apparently has been busy ordering them to round the Filipino fora, and spread the propaganda that the prayer meeting was in fact carried out in her favor, and that the without the most powerful religious groups in the Philippines like INC and El Shaddai, any such movement would not succeed!!!

I actually don’t buy such allegation, and I know that all these silly flip-flopping claims are attempts to dampen the spirits of the 150,000 Filipinos, who joined the prayer meeting, to prevent them from regrouping. But as Tongue T has stated, the die has been cast. It is just a matter of time, and soon, I guess, that the Great Switik will be toppled down with or without US help.

I would prefer in fact that Filipinos do it their own way especially with America too busy elsewhere and would not like to be bothered too much with the problem of the Great Switik, who has been trying hard to give the impression that all that she does has US consent and go-signal even when Americans themselves say that what she did for instance in 2001 was “now a bad Philippine habit.” In fact, it is to gain US patronage that she and her justice secretary are willing to undermine Philippine justice by accommodating a horny US soldier who has been duly convicted by a Philippine court/judge. Unbelievable talaga ang utak tuta at kamote!

One thing sure is that God will not allow the Great Switik to belittle the faith of the 150,000 Filipinos in God, and His Power and Might to remove a crook like her. In His Own Due Time, God will!

Even now, I pray that God will see it fit to answer the prayers of these brave men and women who prayed for deliverance of ALL Filipinos from the Great Switik and her fellow crooks!!! As my mother says, “Ang Diyos ay di natutulog!”

    Press Release

    December 20, 2006

    Partido ng Manggagawa

Workers declare “paskong tuyo” as “Santa” gives hog feeds to solons

With a recent SWS survey confirming the deepening poverty of Filipinos and widening incidence of hunger, workers led by the Partido ng Manggagawa (PM) trooped to the House of Representatives to call attention to the long-delayed P125 wage increase bill even as the cost of living escalates especially with the pending water rate hike.

“If we go by the myth of Christmas carols, workers should now be busy buying gifts for their loved ones. But with hardly any money in our pockets, we are busy instead demanding the passage of a legislated wage hike. Joe de Venecia and his majority are fast and furious on charter change but slow as snails to act on workers demands,” denounced Judy Miranda of PM.

Around a hundred members of PM and Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino, some of whom came from as far as Laguna and Quezon picketed the gates of Batasan just before it goes into recess this week. Accompanying the rallyists was a worker Santa who cried “Ho! Ho! Ho! Solons better watch out!” and gave hog feeds to “JdV and his troop of trapos” for being “naught not nice to labor and the nation.”

The protesters ate “kanin at tuyo” to highlight the “paskong tuyo” of the workers this season. Miranda stated that “We make do with kanin at tuyo today for that is all the noche buena workers can afford with their measly pay and temporary employment. Even the coming year will be dry with water rates rising by January 1. The P25 alms given to workers last July which the government calls a COLA adjustment will all be lost on the expected monthly P25.20 hike in water bills (84 centavos per cubic meter for 30 cubic meters) in the east zone of Metro Manila, if it has not already been gone because of the price increases of other necessities.”

PM Rep. Renato Magtubo is co-sponsor of the P125 wage bill and the group is arguing that a wage increase will enhance instead of dampen the economy because of its positive multiplier effect. “An additional P125 daily in the hands of workers will be spent on basic goods that will redound to increased sales by factories and intensified retailing in the informal sector. A wage hike will have a direct and indirect effect on decreasing the poverty and hunger stalking the people and the workers. Meanwhile with real wages falling every year and contractualization spreading like a plague, the incidence of hunger increases quarterly,” Miranda deplored.

She continued, “In comparison, big capitalists like Maynilad and Manila Water have the privilege of the price of their commodities automatically increased with inflation. Whenever workers demand a wage hike, government raises the bogey of the capitalists’ capacity to pay but when capitalists hike their prices, they are silent on the workers’ capacity to buy. Such is the double standard in a capitalist society under globalization.” ###

from one of my three favorites:

    10 ways to “give” Christmas

    SHE SAYS

    Dinah S. Ventura

    12/20/2006

To say Filipinos have been battered and torn this year is putting it mildly. As the Christian world awaits the most joyous celebration of Jesus’ birth, Filipino Catholics must, more than ever, rely on their faith to feel the spirit of the season.

Otherwise, nothing and no one can muster the courage for them to face what lies ahead, given the goings-on in local politics and natural disasters that shook the nation this year.

People from many parts of our country are not only struggling to rebuild their lives from the wreckage left by some of the strongest typhoons in our history, they are also dealing with daily discomforts such as the lack of electricity and clean water, food to eat and medicines for the sick.

The luxuries they used to enjoy, even if only during the holidays, cannot even bear thinking about. Precious life — the presence of family, relatives and friends who survived “Milenyo” or “Reming” or “Seniang” — is the best gift they could ever have this Christmas.

In the spirit of this season, therefore, Shesays has come up with 10 ways we can all try to be a blessing or gift to our fellow Filipinos.

1.Donate food, water, medicines, clothing, mats or blankets, candles, or money to the victims of Typhoon Reming in the Bicol region. Drop off points are at McDonald’s and Body Shop outlets, which you will undoubtedly pass by as you do your shopping for Christmas gifts.

2.Donate the same to the victims of Typhoon Seniang in Mindoro and nearby parts.

3.Sponsor a child’s education through the World Vision. You only really spend about P15 a day when you do, which you can pay either monthly, quarterly or yearly. What is P15 a day to those who can spend P95 for a coffee frappuccino everyday?

4.Skip that expensive restaurant dinner for one night and give the money you would have spent to the sick children through the various foundations in the country.

5.Visit the lonely old folks at Golden Acres in Quezon City.

6.Visit the patients at the cancer ward at the Philippine General Hospital.

7.Make the extra effort to conserve water! Do not let faucets run when you’re brushing or soaping, but only turn them on when you are ready to rinse. Fix those leaky faucets, too, while you’re at it. The typhoons may have helped increase the water levels at the depleted Angat Dam to a sufficient degree, but water conservation is a good habit to develop anytime. Let’s not wait for another threat of El Niño to get us moving in the right direction.

8.Segregate your trash and dispose of them properly. We, Pinoys, pride ourselves for our cleanliness as people, but shouldn’t we make the extra effort to make sure our surroundings are just as clean?

9.Cultivate your awareness of and participate in the environmental conservation efforts in your community and around the country. The Philippines is blessed with natural beauty — it is one of our sources of pride as a nation and, in the tourist areas, a major source of income, so we should all contribute toward the preservation of nature’s bounty. The recent oil spill at Guimaras opened our eyes to the wide-ranging negative effects of one’s negligence or greed. Let us not allow such thing to happen again. Every single Pinoy should always remember how he or she can affect the environment. A single wrapper thrown carelessly from the window of a bus can one day be part of a major flood that rises in Manila because trash had clogged the drainage systems anew.

    10. Read the news daily to get updated about the goings-on in politics, in the country and our communities. Find out more about the issues affecting our nation. We should not leave the present and future of our country in the hands of a powerful few. Knowledge gives power to the people.

    My Favorite La Sallite
    By Antonio C. Abaya
    Written Dec. 17, 2006
    For the Standard Today,
    December 19 issue.

The expanded e-version of my article Shame on You, Joe (Dec. 12), with its reference to my batch mate Jose de Venecia’s academic background in La Salle and Ateneo, drew angry protests from La Sallites. In fairness, I am reproducing excerpts from the angriest ones – but not from the one or two who used insulting language.

These all appear or will soon appear in full in www. tapatt.org, together with the other reactions to that article, most of which did not comment on the Ateneo-La Salle thing.

Cristine C. Remollo (AB, Batch ’84 – DLSU, LLB Batch ’88 –AdeMU) wrote: “Re your article below, I totally agree with you. However, you spoiled the whole point when you generalized at the end with ‘Perhaps he learned it in La Salle.’ You should have stopped at your main discourse. Worse, with just one sentence, you lost your credibility, as well as that of your arguments. Shame on you, Tony!”

Mike Defensor? Naw. I don’t think he is a guy with principles. I also don’t liked balimbings, whether it be people, views, or even the fruit. You’ll be better off saying he’s saving his political ass, period. Then again, its only me.

  88. Mrivera,

That’s a great post. Thanks very much, great reminder for all of us who have a little more than others

In our own very, very little almost insignifant way, hubby, children and I have decided not to buy presents for each other, instead we have put the little shopping money in a little piggy bank to donate the collection to PREDA.

Am quite happy that my daughter who along with a bunch of her classmates did a car boot sale to sell some of their belongings and to donate the proceeds to a charity through OXFAM in the spirit of Christmas (the idea was their own which actually is quite heartwarming.)

My oldest son, along with some of his closest friends, is a volunteer for a couple of hours a night 3 days a week in a soup house for the poor, cleaning the kitchen, serving soup and dinner to poor folks.

Adults too have much to learn from young people…

acpiccio, why should our generation apologize to the youth of today? The reason I joined the 1stQS is because of them. We fought the dictatorship because we want our children to have a better future free from supression of dictators. What is there to rectify? They should be the one to apologize dahil they should have continued the fight from where we left. Mga remnants pa iyan ng martial law, but for them the fight still continue. Noon we were branded as commies, radicals, leftist, but I’m neither one of them dahil isa lang akong ordinaryong pinoy na nagmamahal sa kanyang bayan. And I repeat, the blood that were shed then were all in vain. Nasayang lang, because we are not enjoying the fruits of what we fought for then. Walang silver lining after the dark clouds ika nga. No acpiccio, we did not fail them, they failed us. Bakit? Dahil handa silang magsakripisyo dahil sa pagmamahal nila sa bayan.

    Mrivera and Yuko,

Most ideal situation is for the civilian/citizenry not to depend on the churches for ousting a fake leader like Glueria.

But majority of pinoys hasn’t trancended yet the dictates of their respective religious leaders, which to me spoke of the very weakness of pinoys spiritual culture.

More than three hundred years and still the mentality of subservience impacted on us by the Spanish conquestadores is very much alive.

This Pidal woman deserves the most painful punishment that we could inflict upon her for making our individual lives miserable and for corrupting the very institutions that we consider our “rocks” in times of trouble.

We all seem to agree that The Woman is a lying, thieving cheat of the highest order. We all agree that The Woman has no compunction at all to use and abuse people for her personal gain and survival. We all agree she is smart and politically adept and can wiggle out of practically any tight situation and that she has mastered the art of manipulating every sector of the nation.

Bishop calls for all-out protest rally

    BY GERARD ANTHONY NAVAL

AMID efforts by the administration to revive moves to amend the Constitution, Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz yesterday called for an all-out protest rally instead of a prayer rally by anti-Charter change forces.

Cruz, former president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, said the mass action should be unrestrained in allowing expressions of outrage against the administration, unlike the CBCP-initiated gathering last Sunday which was purely a prayer gathering,

“If you ask me, let’s hold another rally but this time let’s drop the tag of a ‘prayer rally’ and call it an all-out protest rally,” Cruz said in a radio interview.

“Everyone against Cha-cha would be free to come, free to bring their banners, and free to air their grievances. No more restrictions. There were too many of those in last Sunday’s rally,” he added.

  118. Chi,

I’m not a Catholic and our church does not meddle in politics even when majority of our members in the USA for example are Republicans. Thus, I don’t go by the Catholic standard of meddling in politics. We call it in fact as priestcraft!!!

I don’t know who our members in the Philippines support politically, but as far as the church is concerned, it is staying out of politics, which is not discussed within the walls and premises of the church. We abide by the standard rule of separation of church and state.

I have never heard of leaders of our church everywhere of endorsing any candidate during elections. We are just told to pray for guidance when we vote, and never to cheat!

Thus, I feel sorry for members of other churches who are dependent on their church leaders in choosing their candidates for positions in the government the way the CBCP or the INC dictate on their members as to who to vote during elections.

The truth is we believe in free agency that not even God will try to deprive us of.

I was not at all surprised because I had anticipated this scenario. But this will require an elaborate discussion which I am therefore reserving for my next column. As previously written in this column, this scenario had been plotted by two administration officials acting for the European Socdems.

Hmmmm, that slipped my mind that the U.S. is her Archilles heel, as well as the international community. That sounds pretty right. Now what can we do to make the international community condemn her? For starters the human rights issues have been noticed, and AI, as well as other human rights organizations have condemned her. BUT, we should find an international group or org who would condemn Gloria’s governance, as well as the Philippines’ laws of democracy..Perhaps we can tap a U.S. Senator, like Senator Lugar or somebody of the same stature and caliber. For this “real people power” to materialize, we need a push.

    Chabeli,

I know some nationalists will frown on getting help from outside forces, from the international community. But the reality is that this is now a world without borders.

Countries and its citizens are now so socially and politically interlocked that what happens in one country quickly affects the lives and businesses of people in other countries. This is why the international community is so concerned with the rogue behavior of some leaders of other countries.

And this is why I believe we have to have strong influential allies out there who cannot be manipulated or twiddled around the stubby fingers of This Woman.

But for us to gain their attention, we of course have to continue to do our part by continuing to do battle with this malevolent force in our midst. And to do this, that one week episode of outrage last week must be repeated.

Sayang nawala ang momentum when the rally organizers turned it into a Prayer Rally and Thanksgiving Mass led by a very malamyang obfuscating religious leader.

But with this administration’s desperation and arrogance, there will still be other opportunities that will cause public indignation. I’m sure of that. In fact, the Desperate and Arrogant One is already revving up her motors again. Good, let her and let them continue with their attempted rapes again and let’s see what happens…

The international community may pay closer attention this time. Remember, she is deathly scared of being embarrassed internationally. The reason why she postponed the ASEAN Summit. Well, she has rescheduled it for January next year.

    Phil Cruz and Chi,

    re: Gloria’s Achilles heel discussion

    Phil Cruz,
I agree with you that “…some nationalists will frown on getting help from outside forces, from the international community. But the reality is that this is now a world without borders.” Which is why I wasn’t focused really on “outside help” until you mentioned that U.S.

Take for example the recent U.S. brouhaha, I hope I am not using the wrong word, but I look at the recent move of cancelling the Balikatan as some sort of sanctions on the Philippines. There will be ramifications for this move. They know damn well that she pretty much controls the court here. I cannot accept that a mere Judge Pozon from a mere Regional Trial Court has wrecked havoc on the U.S.-Philippines relations ! And Gloria is not aware ? Tell that to the Marines ! This Woman has this persistent character of taking all sides on an issue. For instance, her War on Terror. On one hand, she says she fully supports the Coalition of the Willing, and in a blink of an eye, for a fellow-province mate, the TNT (TAGO-Ng-Tago) Angelo dela Cruz is the cause of her back-peddaling. Even more recent her stand regarding Cha-Cha. This is so Gloria ! GLORIA is NOT AN ECONOMIST, but a POLITICAL PROSTITUTE, WHO SLEEPS WITH ANYONE WHO CAN SATISFY HER NEEDS.

The U.S. is one of the “strong influential allies out there who cannot be manipulated or twiddled around the stubby fingers of This Woman.” And if I may add to this, THE U.S. IS NOT A PUSH OVER AND WHEN THEY BUSINESS THEY MEAN IT.

    Let’s watch events unfold.

i find it interesting kaya ko isiningit. if you cannot appreciate it, that’s your problem, not mine!

  129. It is a must that we respect each other’s comments. If you disagree, you may raise your points but let’s not denigrade other’s contribution.

Robert, you have made you point, M Rivera has replied. That’s all for that topic. More comments on that and I’ll delete because it does not contribute to a healthy discussion for everybody.

very gloria arroyo. tunay ka! sinungaling.
    isang magnanakaw, amasonang tulisan!

    salot! salot! salot! salot!

Church and religion have often been being mentioned in this forum. What is religion? It is defined as worship and service to God. It is man’s relationship to his Creator. Unfortunately, some have perverted the definition. Instead of worshiping God Who created them, they worship gods that they created. Man has created its own gods and religions. Speaking of the Catholic Church, the Catholics don’t want to bring back the church’s dark history. I’m talking about the 13th Century extermination of the Cathars. Called as heretics, they were wiped off the map. May away at giyera kaya?
