Marciano Paynor, head of the 12th Asean summit organizing committee, said today the Asean leaders have responded they will be attending the meeting in January. Click here for full story.

Foreign affairs officials this morning met with ambassadors of Southeast Asian countries and gave them the letter of Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo proposing a new date for the 12th Asean Leaders summit which is Jan. 10 to 15, 2007.
The latter also requested that the answer be given in a week.
Malacañang and DFA officials continue to maintain that it was “weather disturbance” that caused the cancellation of the summit. An Associated Press report said it was the terrorist plot.
Malacañang sources, however, said Arroyo’s officials involved with security expressed the concern that with most of the security personnel in Cebu, Manila would be left vulnerable in the wake of protest actions to be mounted by anti-Con Ass groups. The Senate-less Constituent Assembly was scheduled to held as the same time as the Asean summit in Cebu.
The joke going around then was “If the opposition takes Manila, Gloria can be president of Cebu.”
We have talked with some diplomats of countries that were supposed to attend the summit in Cebu and they are all pissed off. They said leaders schedule are prepared in advance and it would not be easy to re-arrange it because it also involves many parties.
It’s not only the leaders’ schdule tht were messed up by the cancellation but also tha of the supporting staff. All of them said that their regard of the Arroyo administation has sunk.
Their comments are reflected in what Akira Amari, Japanese minister for Economy, Trade and Industry said, that the cancellation “surely lowered the credibility of the Philippine government. Click here for full story.
Amari’s statement is in his blog which is in Japanese. Click here.
The weather disturbance was the least among the reasons of cancellattion of the Asean Leaders Summit, but the combination of terorists threats, which the security people had no idea of how and where they’re coming from and the looming crisis in Her Government that could might as well spell the beginning of the end of her Presidency. Press all over the world dismissed the weather as the reason, adding to the already damaged credibility of Ms Arroyo’s administration not only to the eyes of the Asean leaders but to most others. Moral, truth may hurt, but in the end it’s the only way that will stand the test of time…
Glueria is hallucinating if she thinks she can dictate attendance of foreign leaders to her new Asean schedule! Mangarap ka pa, libre naman!
This Arroyo administration lost all their credibility a long time ago and their continual mis-management, lies and the resulting embarrassment makes Cebu the laughing stock of the world. Arroyo still insists on her story blaming the weather forcast when everyone knows it was comfirmed as being fine in Cebu by the weather experts. Everyone and their uncle knows the truth is that most of the National Police & Armed Forces of the Philippines were guarding the summit venue in Cebu whilst Arroyo was worried about demonstrations against her administration being held in Manila yhe same week where there was a lack of police cover. The atmosphere gave Arroyo the fear of being toppled hence the rush to tranfere the police and military from Cebu to Manila once the summit had been cancelled with little or no warning. There was no respect to the arrangements that had been made by the diplomats of the various countries and their many staff. All this did was to show the world that Arroyo’s administration is shakey to say the least, and her reaction was for her survival.
trying to polish her worn out credibility? does she think Asean leaders still buy her boladas and palusot?
If and when the bogus will reschedule the summit, another window of opportunity for her ouster will emerge. By then, the clamor for her ouster might have reached a crescendo. Before we know it, with unabated and persistent rallies and protests, her doom will come! Unite and force her out!
RE: The joke going around then was “If the opposition takes Manila, Gloria can be president of Cebu.”
GMA loves Cebu???? Arroyo won handily in Cebu with a at least one million. HELLO GARCI!
she probably hallucinated that she is the president of asean.
She’s not even sure Cebuanos like her. She might have won in Cebu but she owes this to the political leadership of Cebu who supported her. Also, evidences point to her cheating even in a territory she claims to be hers. Ask ordinary people of Cebu and they will tell you they don’t like her. I think the better slogan would be: The opposition and people take the whole Philippines except Sprately islands for Arroyo. Funny uh…Sprately is even being contested by many claimant countries. With the recent flop of the ASEAN Summit, where does Gloria now belong? HELL…
BU-ANG (am I correct that this means crazy?) si Gloria ! Even her external popularity is in NEGATIVE levels ! As Gloria has brought the Philippines down, she wants ALL OF US to sink with her. No thanks to that !
GLORIA HAS BECOME A CERTIFIED LOW-LIFE OF ASIA !
Nakakahiya.
The next ASEAN summit is doomed already if we go by the statement of a Japan Minister. It’s really embarrasing if the leaders of the member nations will just send their messengers to attend the summit.
And as I stated in my earlier prognosis, the next typhoon may yet be another lame excuse. According to PAGASA, tne next storm will be called TOMAS.

S-alamat po, Lord!
Ducky Paredes (Malaya): At any rate, having a summit postponed does not do the host country – any host country – any good. It is almost as bad for the host country as hosting an unsuccessful summit.
Remember RC : “I would like to say to you all (that) I am completely appalled by your collective gall. You’re totally bereft of principle that’s why you’re without shame.”
Pero kung may nasaktan man – I am shorry.
It was announced that the Asean Summit has been moved to second week of January 2007.
Ano ba yan? Dahil may weather disturbance on that period according to PAGASA at ito’y may code name na: AGILA.

Hey, did you guys see that photo on the Daily Inquirer today with the caption: “Gloria in a Manger” showing her standing with the statues of Mary, Joseph and Jesus? What is she trying to tell us? If there were Three Kings…is she saying she’s one of the Three Queens? And who are the other Queens?
Tongue, don’t blame the Cebuanos. Blame Garci of comelec and the other Garci from Cebu.
Vidal. With due respect to Arch. Vidal, he doesn’t want to dip his hand into the political, which is expected of high priests. This is also in keeping with the principle of separation between the church and state.
Npongco,
I could see that Mary and Joseph are kneeling yet they’re almost the same height with GMA.
Another comedy of error – now it’s GMA herself!
Takaw eksena kasi. Look at.
Re: “Gloria in a Manger” showing her standing with the statues of Mary, Joseph and Jesus?
There’s something wrong in the photo. Parang si Satanas ay saling pusa sa picture “Gloria in a Manger”. It reminds me the movie Mel Gibson’s version of The Passion of Christ. The devil is in the background while Jesus Christ was being suffering, tortured and nailed to the cross. Gloria Arroyo represents the Devil a.ka. Satan. She mastered the art of spreading lies and deceit among the world and particularly the Filipino nation.
Gloria in a Manger?
Dumb and dumber nga e..What do you expect?
Sira na ang tuktok nyan. Maawa kayo.
Hahahahah!
Diego’s description of Gloria in the manger is very funny!
“There’s something wrong in the photo. Parang si Satanas ay saling pusa sa picture “Gloria in a Manger”. It reminds me the movie Mel Gibson’s version of The Passion of Christ. The devil is in the background”
Perosa totoo lang nakakatuwa ang picture at caption “GLORIA IN A MANGER”…..Si gloria pala iyon? ALIS DYAN GLORIA, BUWISIT!!!!
It should be read: “Akala ko may naligaw na biik”; and “Iyon ay para sa mga hayop”, thanks!
When will the Philippines (well, RP Police technically) ever do this sort of thing, question Gloria over, say, over the Garci thinggy or some questionable transaction?
Banner story in UK’s The Times:
Police question Tony Blair
Tony Blair today became the first serving Prime Minister to be questioned as part of a criminal investigation when he was quizzed at No 10 about the cash-for-honours scandal.
Critics said that the development was a huge embarrassment for Mr Blair, who came to power in 1997 promising to be “whiter than white”.

By the way, do you know that MANGE is an animal disease? It is cause by a tiny mite; the animal that’s afflicted with mange becomes irascible.
Example, a dog suffering from mange will often act abnormally. In most cases the mange starts at the rear end (the animal’s backside, well, less politely known as the arse and crudely calle the ass).
Quite fitting to say therefore that Gloria has MANGE!
Glueria has MANGE! Oh, kaya pala kahit nakatayo or upside down position, wala ng pagkakaiba ang kanyang ass at mukha!
Kaya lang hindi vocal ang mga Cebuano and by nature’, they’re more fun-loving than any Filipino tribes. They’re also easy to please and deal with. Am speaking of course through experience not to mention that am a Bisayan myself. .
98% Cebu voters’ turnout in 2004 is one for Ripley’s Believe It or Not latest entry. Public resistance and anger against fraudulent Arroyo- De Venecia’s Constituent Assembly is a residual effect of massive cheating in the 2004 presidential election. This is the reason why the Arroyo regime is pushing hard a charter change to remain in power beyond 2010 and escape impeachment and possible conviction in the Senate. Hello Garci electoral fraud and its subsequent cover-ups still unanswered. The original sin- kudeta 2001 and electoral fraud needs final resolution. Oust Gloria Arroyo!
Haha, Elvira, I knew I would get some reactions. I stated the figures because Gloria and her puppets have been flaunting those numbers and I know Cebuanos are not at all that stupid to fall for her lies.
I… am sorry.
mike uliling,
baboy sa sabsaban? wa he he he. bago yan a.
pinoy nativity?
Just as we thought we have made JDV and his conAssholes eat their humble pie, Nograles has this very arrogant statement:
“It’s time to stop this divisiveness roll up our sleeves and get back to work. No more necrological speeches on con-ass [constituent assembly],” he said.
“Personally, I am sorry for all the traffic jam con-ass has caused the public in Metro Manila”.
Huh!
What’s the connection of Jose Pidal to Cebu billionaire Jon Ramon Aboitiz?
Is the PSALM sale to SN Aboitiz Power Inc. is bayad utang?
SN Aboitiz Power Inc. won the bidding for a 360-megawatt hydropower plant of National Power Corp. in Magat town in the northern province of Isabela with an offer of $530 million. This gives Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) its biggest asset sale to date. Inq7.net

By the way, do you know that MANGE is an animal disease?
(the animal’s backside, well, less politely known as the arse and crudely calle the ass). Right on Anna, now your talking my language !!! hehehe.
On a more serious subject, thankfully the people of this nation insisted that even GMA, her Cabinet, her Congress allies were made to back down by the PEOPLE, without people you don’t have a church. Now, what makes the AFP leadership and the PNP leadership think that they are above public opinion, nay written law even. Will they never learn that they are also servants of the people and that the military are there to protect the Country from invasion and the police are there to enact the laws for keeping the peace, not to break the laws or make up their own laws to suit the occassion. The cha cha was derailed and now it looks as if ASSperon’s tribunal is derailed. If the military and police leadership don’t change their direction and start serving the people, me thinks they are in for a shock also. One Million warm bodies will do it.
I think that why the ‘administration’ was showing fear of these church groups is because they could see these church PEOPLE were organized in large numbers. Now that the general public (PEOPLE) who are now opposing and united in very large numbers, the ‘administration’ are very worried nay even scared.
The AFP & PNP Leadrship had called ‘wolf’ on so many occasions in the past, these threats are seen as empty words. It does not scare the public any more. enough is enough!
Why should these (arse) hehehe licking PNP ban movie stars and politicians from speaking at the rally. Their master GMA knows very well that a movie star or politician will emerge to Lead the Opposition. GMA is fearful of that.
Japan, Australia, British, American etc warned about Terrorist at the Cebu Summit. The AFP/PNP Intelligence (er DOH! Intelligence) had no such intelligence reports of any threat to the Cebu Summit.
There’s another good reason why these countries will not return to Cebu in January 2007…Micky Mouse Security. GMA is devoid of any diplomatic grace, she even fails to have a mandate from her own people, hated through and through as all surveys will testify and on view to the whole world. The funding to build the Cebu venue shouls have been better spent on education and the typhoon victims. This Administration is acting like a 2nd rate banana republic. The time for changes is overdue, the time to change is now.
Sharon Cuneta, Vilma Santos, if thats the best we can do then its time to leave. The last one out of the country please turn off the light.
Gloria in a Manger.
Arestuhan?
Hindi ako takot dyan!! Gusto ba nila ng away o gulo?
Away na lang para walang gulo!!
That’s funny PKM.
Para sa kanto,
(Gloria in a manger)
Abe definitely is not going to Cebu because he has another schedule. He is going somewhere unless perhaps they change the venue of this ASEAN meet, which is not possible considering the amount of money involved, etc. in hosting such meet.
‘Tado talaga if she thinks that she can do as she wants to save her face. Good for Ambassador Amari to slap her face with such statement that the Great Switik has lost her credibility.
Gosh, how can these stupid officials think that they can just tell anybody to change their schedule according to the Great Switik’s wiles and whims!
PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!
The terrorist scare should have been tackled well by Filipinos. Those soldiers assigned now to monitor the Sunday rally should not be pointing their machine guns on the ordinary Filipino people. They should instead join the rally and express their sentiments against the bogus president who tells them to do what they should not be doing against their oath to protect country and people.
All the talks about the terrorist warning by the US, Japan, etc. are old issues that should have been tackled by those in charge of th police and military of the Philippines long before, to be exact, since the mad man at the White House cried wolf about Iraq and even Afghanistan.
PATALISKIN NA, NOW NA!

I heard from reliable persons saying the decision was made the night (thursday) prior to the formal announcement of cancellation of the summit.gov. garcia may have been the first ones to have been informed of that decision thursday night to cancel the summit in order not to offend her.
Imelda is offended that the Cebu preparations was described as “Imeldific.” She said her buildings do not leak when it rains.
The Cebu Internationl Convention Center got flooded when storm “Seniang” came. Electrcity was cut off. The reporters (the media center was there) could not file their story. They had to go back to their hotels which had generators.
The Apex liar(Who else? The bogus one) of ASEAN, has lost all,if any credibility! To the ASEAN community and Japanese Minister Amari, allow me to posit you this simple question: If this fake and immoral president, lies without a batting an eyelash(on a constant basis, mind you) to her own citizens, do you expect this bogus one,an Apex liar to the Filipino People,to tell you the TRUTH?!!To FOREIGNERS like you!The bogus ones’ history for lying is freshly vivid in the minds of the Filipino People!Ask anybody in our country(even outside), and survey after survey reveals, Filipinos doesn’t trust this usurper in malacanang! And pls.Minister Amari,if you truly have a good heart and pure intentions for our Country, help us the Filipinos to Scrap/junk that JPEPA talks! We still love our country, despite it’s problems,so pls. for the sake of our children, the future generations who will inherit the environment,we don’t want our country to be a receptacle of toxic waste coming from Japan! Please help us to stop the JPEPA,and show your solidarity to the Filipinos to oust an illegitimate and immoral gov’t. who negotiated this JPEPA!God Bless the Philippines!

Japanese officials do not usually talk nor criticize policies or actions taken by officials or governments of other countries. Now, they are becoming brazenly braver, and I can understand why. Japan is now going to be another world military power.

Japan creates defense ministry for first time since 1945
Agence France-Presse
Last updated 04:34pm (Mla time) 12/15/2006
TOKYO — Japan on Friday created a full-fledged defense ministry for the first time since World War II, when the United States stripped the defeated country of its right to a military.
The upper house voted by a majority, with support from the main opposition Democratic Party, to create the defense agency. The lower house had earlier passed the bill, meaning it becomes law, a parliamentary official said.
Post-war Japan has had a “Defense Agency” with lower standing than full-fledged ministries as the 1947 constitution declared the country to be pacifist.
Despite calling its troops the “Self-Defense Forces,” Japan has one of the world’s biggest military budgets at 4.81 trillion yen (41.6 billion dollars) a year.
Ellen,
Re: “Imelda is offended that the Cebu preparations was described as “Imeldific.” She said her buildings do not leak when it rains.”
No, they don’t just leak, they simply collapse!
This Norberto Gonzales has no credibility, even the Church Leaders think not – by the way how’s this guys ‘heart problem’ terminal I hope.
National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales said Friday that he received reports that the New People’s Army will try to smuggle high-powered guns and explosives to disrupt the Church-led prayer rally in Rizal Park on Sunday, DZMM reported. Gonzales said he had already told the military and police to augment security preparations for the prayer rally. He said he also ordered authorities to put up checkpoints in Metro Manila, especially the entry points to the metropolis, to prevent guns and explosives from entering the city. ABS-CBN Correspondent Ruby Tayag reported that Gonzales also asked the Commission on Higher Education to ask officials of Catholic schools to ensure the safety of students who attend the prayer rally.
Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, Armed Forces chief of staff, earlier revealed that the NPA and the Rajah Sulayman Group will try to disrupt the prayer rally.
The Catholic Bishops Conferene of the Philippines, however, scored the military for allegedly trying to prevent people from attending the gathering. Organizers said at least 500,000 people are expected to join the prayer rally.
Comment: Isn’t it strange that there were no Intelligence Reports coming from the AFP?PNP at the Cebu City Summit – but they say they have Intelligence Reports for the Luneta Rally – amazing!
Ystakei:
I’m interested to know what military force defended Japan since 1945. I guess it was the USA.
This Assperon is some deep thinker. Why should he think that the NPA would want to disrupt the Prayer Rally. Its more likely that the NPA would assist the Prayer Rally to disrupt GMA!
Yuko,
Japan IS already HEAVILY militarized. Let’s not fool ourselves, Japan is already AS militarized AS any other western nation.
There is no turning back unless they destroy their offensive armaments and weaponry, i.e., submarines and missiles.
Japanese forces have been deployed abroad not only as part of UN peacekeeping forces but also as part of the coalition forces in Iraq, which for the latter, whatever one says, are FIGHTING and KILLING forces.
The Japanese defence forces are some of the best trained and most sophisticated not only in defence but also in offensive warfare today.
But if you really want Japan to “unmilitarize”, the only way to do it is to turn back to the true mission of what is already an already heavily trained and equipped forces and TO DISMANTLE at least a big portion of their arsenal BUT that is not forthcoming nor is it realistic, so as things stand, the better thing to do is to be vigilant and to make sure that nothing else is added to Japan’s arsenal by way of nuclear warheads.
Perhaps the more fitting way to CONTROL any more OVERT “militarization” is to publicly call on their government to downgrade their seemingly “offensive” stance, as opposed to what we expect of Japan’s military, into their original defensive mission.
(We sold shore defence hardware and many of the contents of their arsenal to Japan.)
To give everyone an idea of how powerful Japan’s military arsenal and troops is, their forces can literally overrun the Philippines in less than 24 hours in a conventional warfare or conflict scenario (but perhaps not if it’s in terms of assymetric warfare).
Yuko,
Reqalistically, Japan IS already a military power, not overtly aggressive but it IS a military force to reckon with as we speak.
On its own and without American hardware in consideration, i.e., South Korea, Japan has the BIGGEST military forces and arsenal in active service in FREE Asia.
Indonesia may have the largest number of military personnel because of its current population (most of who are in reserve service anyway) but Japan overpowers them in terms of war readiness and effectiveness.
Japan is much like Germany in that sense.
Both not overtly aggressive but the defence readiness and offensive capability on all levels are there.
GMA thought she can fool even foreign nationals with the cancellation due to the typhoon!!They’re hiding something from the people again and we have the right to know why the summit was cancelled!!!
golpedegulat,
you are absolutely right.
this little duck like wading and walking comic dictator is overestimating her capacity to lie at will.
it doesn’t seem to dawn on her that she’s so transparently dumb and that foreign nationals may smile at her blarney talk but they are not buying her loose talks.
Anna:
Our pacifist Constitution that will make direct confrontation with the Iraqis by Japanese troops in Iraq was enforced. Thanks to members of our Federation of Bar Associations that they are prevented from joining the Americans and the British in direct combat activities with the Iraqis. This, I assure you, was what they DID NOT do in Iraq despite such military might you claim Japan has.
We are not unaware of the big military expenses but they are not at least use directly by our forces, but given instead to the US to help it keep its image of being the great policeman of the world. It is in fact what we are fighting against in Japan, and force the government at least to have equal budget for education for example to appease the public.
Now, we are not sure of what is going to happen with a more powerful Defense Ministry. I dread something like the Japan or pre WWII as a matter of fact when Japanese nationals were under the control of the military and everyone not being free. In fact, I refuse to get a number as my ID that may someday be implemented to our chagrin as we lose a lot of the freedoms we do enjoy now.
Sorry, this should read: Our pacifist Constitution that WOULD make direct confrontation with the Iraqis by Japanese troops in Iraq ILLEGAL was enforced. They were there only for infrastructural development. That was why it was easy to have them pulled out just before Koizumi resigned. There was public pressure in fact for the pull-out of the Japanese Self-Defense Force in Iraq.
As peacekeepers for the UN likewise, they were not allowed to engage in direct combat activities as when Japanese soldiers were sent to Rwanda in the 90’s. I remember joining rallies against the deployment of our soldiers there as a matter of fact, for our Constitution in fact prohibited that.
The Daily Tribune are just reporting that two AFP officers are saying that basically the solders know whats happening in regards to GMA corrupting the Generals etc that they are saying that GMA has to go.
Here we go again – the military complaining but they don’t have the balls to act. Busy holding on to the skirt of their corrupt Commander-in-Thief – weve heard it all before!
Ellen, I was surprised your posting of Imelda’s remarks about Cebu. Being anti-Marcos, I know you’re no Imelda fan. I guess you now are of the opinion that GMA is a lot worse than Imelda whom people hated in the past and is still being hated by many.
Yup, the balls-less military is still under-de-saya!
When is the right time to move General? Kapag puti na ang uwak? The corruption issues in the military and the bureaucracy are still rampant. Greedy politicos add more miseries and sufferings of Inang Bayan. I believe there are few good men in the military service that are willing to sacrifice their lives to defend the constitution and just cause.

***Well Anna, I agree that Japan is much like Germany…both are invaders that caused so much death and sufferings to millions of people.

As for the Great Switik being dumb, Anna, you bet she is. But she is definitely being cunning and shrewd acting the part of a stupid dummy. Funny, however, how she can get away with it all the time!
Kawawang bansa! Gotta go to the temple and pray! I’m fasting, too, right now.
Chi, you may call me at 8 pm SFO time. Will be out from now, that’s why
Re Germany and Japan:
All ambitious nations, western or eastern, when they go an onslaught, to invade other nations, end up killing and maiming people, causing so much undue sufferings; a sorry, indescribable result of warring
But having said that, we don’t even have to look far – the Philippines has never invaded another foreign nation as such but look at how a handful of leaders acting so hitler-like, have caused deaths and destruction in the nation, against their OWN people, their own countrymen, so unbelievable…
We can understand that other countries invade other countries causing so much sufferings to the country they invade. But in our country the Philippines, it’s this GMA and her allies who are causing the Filipino so much sufferings. That, I absolutely agree with you, Anna.
