The incident between Luli Arroyo and Immigration officer Edgardo Padlan underscored the accepted reality in this world that men and women may be born equal but there are those who are more equal than others.
At Bank of the Philippine Islands and its sister-banks, BPI Family Banks, they have a special lane for “Preferred Clients”. One time, at the BPI Family Alabang-Zapote branch, the line at the counter for ordinary clients was very long. One depositor transferred to the shorter line of “Preferred Clients”.
As expected, he was told to go back to where he belonged. He didn’t take it kindly and berated the teller for discriminating against small depositors.
I understand that banks have to pamper their big-time depositors. But it shows insensitivity on the part of BPI to display their discrimination with that glaring sign “Preferred Clients”. What does that make of the others, not preferred?
One would think that a company like BPI, that has a budget for public relations, would have thought of a better term than the discriminatory “Preferred clients”. They can say “Gold Card holders” or other symbols they would like to attach to their special depositors.
Back to Luli Arroyo. From the various accounts, mostly of Luli Arroyo, because Padlan has been chastised into silence, she was in a special lane for diplomats and VIPs. A Korean who was behind her was allowed to jump the queue because he would be late for his flight.
Luli didn’t like it and told Padlan about it. He snapped at her, “Don’t you know how to wait?” Then he also said, “Why did you check in only now?” Luli said she replied something like, “we have been here for sometime, we follow procedures, and it’s you who violate procedures.” Apparently, Luli was also hurrying up for her flight. That means she was also late in checking in.
Until this incident, I didn’t know that airport officials give special accommodations to those who are late in checking in. Airline and airport officials always remind passengers to check in early, two hours before scheduled departure for domestic flights and three hours for international flights. I thought that if you are late, you miss your flight. You take the next available flight. It’s as simple as that.
I didn’t know that there’s a special lane for those who check in late. Or maybe it’s just for special people.
Who are these special people? In a TV interview, Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez said the lane where Luli queued was for diplomats, VIPs, government officials, etc. etc. The list was quite long.
ANC’s Tony Velasquez said Luli was in that lane because she is a foreign service officer. Wrong. Luli took the foreign service exam but Gloria Arroyo did not commission her. She works in a private foundation. I have never read any report that she has been given a government appointment. So she is not a government official.
Other may say that she is VIP because she is the president’s daughter.
President’s daughter? Her mother was never elected president. Gloria Arroyo thwarted the will of the Filipino people, twice: in a power grab in January 2001 and in the May 2004 elections.
If truth and justice are allowed to prevail in this country, Luli would be commiserating with her mother in jail and not causing the punishment of a civil servant whose only fault was not having acquired the art of speaking softly and for being too engrossed with his documentation chores, he failed to recognize Gloria Arroyo’s daughter.
The Luli airport incident also brought out something positive. There are immigration officers who are not corrupt. Apparently, Padlan does not engage in corruption judging from his humble abode. He lives in an unpainted two-story concrete structure with not enough space for a garden. Probably to augment his income, they have a small sari-sari store beside the house.
If Padlan is to be punished for not being polite to Luli, what do we do with Luli’s mother who stole the votes that didn’t belong to her?

Check-in counters usually close 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time. That gives ample time for the passenger’s baggage to be loaded on the plane and for him or her to complete pre-departure checks ( immigration and security ).
But there are times when the lines for the Immigration counter can get really long ( nagkasabay-sabay ang alis ng eroplano ) and so priority has to be given to passengers leaving on the earlier flights.
Part of the problem is the Immigration department itself. They should field extra personnel for these peak hours. But usually the counters are only 50% manned so iilan lang ang linya. Nakakapagtataka naman kasi marami ka namang nakikitang Immigration officers na palakad-lakad lang sa likod na walang ginagawa. Hinahayaan na lang na humaba ang pila.
And it’s not only “special” people who are allowed to jump the line. Karamihan ay mga OFWs din na nagkaproblema ang papeles while checking-in or di kaya sa POEA satellite office at marami pang tanong-tanong at checking na ginagawa bago sila mabigyan ng Boarding Cards.
and that’s another thing that boggles my mind. We OFWs , spend at least half a day lining up at the POEA offices to get an OEC certificate … ( without which you are not allowed to exit the country ) and then pagdating mo sa airport papipilahin ka pa rin sa POEA NAIA office para tatakan ang OEC certificate na pinaghirapan mo na kunin sa Main office. It is not as if the guy at the POEA NAIA examines the certificate closely to check if it is genuine or not.

I was told yesterday by our lawyer, I can’t leave unless the court gives me permission because arraignment for my libel case filed by Mike Arroyo is on Wednesday Nov. 8. (It was earlier set for Oct. 25 but our lawyers asked for postponement to file a motion to quash. At that time I didn’t receive the schedule of the Pakistan trip yet.)

I feel sorry for you Ellen, for I have not heard of this kind of thing happening to a journalist in Japan, who definitely has more freedom and privileges as the law can provide to make the press free, and in the process make good, honest and responsible journalists. It is such discrimination against their own nationals, Ellen, that turned me off and made me to acquire Japanese citizenship instead. It is a bad habit, a carry-over from colonial days, that Filipinos have not at all tried to get rid of! Most airport here and in the USA, everyone departing has to line for immigration usually start with one line up or two and be broken into several lines as it approaches the wickets or stations of the immigration officers. If problems is encountered with a particular passenger, he/ she sent to an adjoining office where her/his paper works get further investigated by different set of officers in order not to hold the line. The airline may have separate lines for its business class or first class passengers. This is understandable because these passengers paid extra for the privilege.
For the banks, usually they have a separate tellers or lines for Business Clients, which clearly indicated with sign that may read like this: ‘For Business Clients Counter/s’. The reason is mostly because business clients have more banking transactions and if allowed to line up with personal account holders, could clog up the regular lineups. I think BPI, which is an old and somehow reputable banking institution should have learned long ago that such discriminatory language even in signage is no longer acceptable in business today. As for Lulli or Lullaby I’ll just play her a lullaby to make her sleep; we’ve been hearing too much BS from this first family.
BPI’s incidence is very discriminating. If I was the client that experienced it I will also get mad and even come to the extent of reprimanding the bank’s manager. I would suggest to all, to go to United coConut Planters Bank (UCPB). Their services is excellent, always with a smile and to the customer’s satisfactions.

ellen, the answer to your question is NO. on the other hand, while the right to travel is guaranted in our bill of rights, as specifically provided in section 6, article iii, there are administrative requirements provided in the immigration law for citizens to be allowed to leave the country (example one should have his or her travel documents before he or she will be allowed by immigration officer to board the aircraft or seacraft). the only exceptions the constitution allows the government to impair one’s right to travel is “in the interest of national security, public safety, or public health, as may be provided by law”. take note that in order for these exceptions to be used against a citizen travelling abroad, there must be a law that authorizes the government to curtail such right. the only way to prevent you from travelling abroad is the issuance of a proper HOLD DEPARTURE ORDER.
in your case, you can always challenge the government should mike arroyo will be successful is securing a hold-departure order against you especially that your work as a journalist (the only source of your livelihood) will always require you to travel abroad and can easily demonstrate or show that you are not a flight risk and the case filed and pending against you is not a capital offense.

ellen it is only your lawyer saying (advice) you cannot leave because of your scheduled arraignment. because the procedure requires you to be there in court during that date. remember now you are out on bail. if you do not appear before the court on your arraignment, there is a possibility that the prosecution will move for the forfeiture of your cash bail bond and another warrant of arrest will be issued against you. the proper remedy would be for your lawyer to file a motion for the resetting of your arraignment to another date citing as ground a very important travel abroad which i am sure the judge could grant ex parte.

My trip to Pakistan has been cancelled because:
1. Today, the lawyer filed a motion for resetting of arraignment. But the judge will only be able to act on it tomorrow. So, I was not able to leave.
2. The Pakistan Embassy here tried to rebook me for tomorrow evening but there is no UAE trip to Dubai tomorrow from Manila (the itinerary is Manila-Dubai-Karachi). On Wednesday, it’s fully booked. The earliest I could leave is Friday. By that time the program is already more than half-way.
You are right, Fencesitter. Malaya’s lawyer warned me of the risks if I leave and not appear for Nov. 8 arraignment. I don’t think the trip is worth the risk.
Partly it’s the fault of Malaya. I thought they took care of it last week.

Fencesetter, wouldn’t it be nice if citizens mobility rights should be embedded in the constitution as we have here. Section 6 or our Charter or Rights and Freedoms deals with our mobility rights in one statement, but its force has passed all challenges in court and so far no limitations has been upheld by the courts to such rights for our citizens. Except for a very reasonable limitations in moving from one province to another (each province is an autonomous entity) which concern mostly of activation of benefits, which were already promptly addressed by proper bridging by each provinces.
In such case as Ellen, it is always the presiding judge of the case upon application, to grant permission for the dependant not in custody to leave the country. Usually, permission is granted for such minor case, but the presiding judge has always the final say. But if it is a major case, where a delay may cause a violation of the accused rights to a trial a within a reasonable time, then the judge will make sure that the trial will take place. Then again the judge ruling could always be appealed to the higher court, which usually stood by the lower courts ruling, unless a gross error of procedure or ignorance of the law has taken place.
Ellen, God has a reason for your Pakistan trip cancellation. Everything happens for a reason.
Vic, I think a Canadian Permanent Resident is not allowed to move to another Province if he has obtained his status through Provincial Nominee Program. He declared in his application that he would stay and work in the Province that nominated him. Am I right?
I normally do not leave comments in blogs that I read, but this time I will make an exception. Your comment that “some are more equal than others” is not only malicious but totally misses the point. Luli Arroyo complained about the immigration officer’s conduct not because he failed to recognize her as being Luli Arroyo. The issue here is that a Korean was made to cut into the diplomat’s line and worse, entered the booth of the immigration officer. If this happened to any of us, we would have probably grumbled or complained, and this immigration officer would have acted the same way — malas lang, niya he picked the wrong person. Someone who could put the spotlight on all the shenanigans, or palakasan in these government departments. Luli Arroyo does not have to be a government official, but she is part of the first family, and like it or not, unfair as it may sound, she is granted special priveleges like a diplomatic passport etc. Check if Chelsea Clinton had the same priveleges (am sure she did).
I am not in anyway pro-GMA, but c’mon – stop twisting this simple story into an opportunity to attack the current administration. This guy did not follow the rules. Nothing to do with him not recognizing the President’s daughter etc.

It is unfortunate that whatever members of the Arroyo clan do, good or bad, becomes subject to all sorts of speculation, i.e., why or what for, the main reason being Gloria and her close relatives are known to be unfair, unjust, unscrupoulous, unhampered to do the wrong things they are doing.
So much so that one should ask quite legitimately the following (considering that the erring immigration officer has already been punished, sacked for discriminately allowing a Korean national to go first against Filipinos): What the heck is Lulli doing in that queu if she’s not a diplomat?
1) Is Luli Macapagal Arroyo physically handicapped? If the answer is NO, then she shouldn’t be there. Now, if she is morally or intellectually handicap, that’s something else… maybe there’s something in government regulations that says that morally or intellectually members of the Malacanang mafia are accorded special status in an airport departure zone.
2) Is she an official Philippine dipomat? If the answer is NO, then what gave her the right to be in that queu which is supposed to be, reserved for dipomats?
Now, if she’s holding a Philippine passport reserved officially for diplomats there’s something wrong there. If so, her passport should be considered fake, don’t you all think so?
In that case, she should be arrested, questioned, detained, tried, convicted, judged and put in prison for faking official government documents.
Noel, that is part of the so-called limitations that is applicable to all our rights and freedoms. It is like a private contract entered into by a sponsored nominee or immigrants that has to commit a period of time before the rights accrue. Like when a person sponsored a dependant ,he or she will be responsible for her care for a period of years, unless he is incapable himself, before the government will extend social services. But all of these has to pass the constitutional test, either through challenges or thru referral to the SC before legislating are enacted. Because passing laws without the test is only an exercise in futility because the said law will be thrown later by challenges or judicial review.
Just like in the US where a nominating hospitals requires at least a two years commitment for our nurses in exchange for the ‘green card’ and if you happened to get a decent hospital, which most are (my nephew and his wife are lucky)you want to stay longer. My nephew just extend his contract with a handsome bonus worth a good down payment for a Kia Sportage. Lucky dude..got a pretty wife and a very sweet 3 year old daughter..my apo..

Luliit might have displayed her arrogance and become very confrontational so the poor guy reacted that way. I remember one time when she berated a media reporter for asking his father about a controversial issue (about Vicky Toh I think). She came in from nowhere and blasted this reporter in pieces. Like mother, like daughter. True, she could have been offended just like any other Filipino. But I would believe more that she forced the immigration officer to behave what he did. ellen’s travel restriction was on account of a pending libel case. but since it is only a minor case, it was not really a problem if only ellen knew the scheduled trip long before. the counsel could have filed a motion ex parte to reset the arraignment because of her important trip abroad.
i doubt it very much if the court would even entertain the complainant (mike arroyo) if he would seek the issuance of a hold departure order against ellen.

On a Moody’s “high”

Gloria is making a telenovela of the recent Moody’s upgrade.
But, surprise, she twisted the usually predictable ending by declining to be the leading lady of the ratings game, letting migrant laborers hog the spotlight.
Gloria the self-proclaimed financial whiz, for once in her twice stolen presidency, actually credited overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) with boosting the economy, whereas in the past it was her supposedly vaunted business acumen that extricated the country from the many dark spots of her deficit-wracked brand of management.
Of course, she must be now regretting praising the country’s modern-day heroes, the fish that she is being caught by its mouth.
In a speech last week, Gloria thanked the OFWs for having helped “turn around our economic fortunes” even as she called the Moody’s upgrade as “another important step forward for the Filipino people to build the country and raise the quality of life and help lift the poor from the grasp of poverty.”
She is much too melodramatic, when the upgrade simply means, as a party-list congressman had pointed out, that “the national government can continue making loans.”
That was all there is to Moody’s mambo jumbo about the country’s supposed progress in reducing its fiscal deficits and dependence on external financing.
Also simply put, the Philippines has just become a favored borrower.
No wonder Rep. Crispin Beltran was led to conclude that Gloria is “seriously hallucinating” from the side effects of the Moody’s upgrade, with her crowing that, as a result of the improved rating, the country now has surplus money to build schools and infrastructure, expand public health services and create more jobs.
Meaning, if the economy’s performance was dismal in Moody’s view, there would have been no money for classrooms and roads, vaccination drives and jobs generation.
The rating further simply means that lenders will be able to screw Manila with loans carrying high interest rates, as if the Philippines is not already up to its neck in debt.
Beltran put it more colorfully, saying the latest pat on Gloria’s back will allow her to “continue making loans to fund its own corruption and twisted economic projects that benefit foreign investors without aiding the local economy.”
Exactly the trickle down theory all over again, but with Gloria and her economic managers of sorts resurrecting it for their own ends.
Besides, elections are just seven months away and whatever loans she contracts and contracts (with possible upgrades from Fitch and other raters, who knows) will go to impact projects meant to make her candidates win in May next year.
Money from the creditors will be thrown the local executives’ way, because its color is the only assurance for Gloria’s buying time, until of course, the next downgrade.
For that blow to her supposed doctoral degree, she will have an ever available scapegoat — the political opposition, which she has blamed for everything that goes wrong with what she and her gofers boast of as “governance.”
In her sidling up to the OFWs, she already is electioneering, knowing that these migrant laborers cannot be toyed with anymore, at least where their place in the economy is concerned.
The OFWs are a political force that can unglue her, if not her bets in the 2007 polls and beyond, that is if she will still be sitting in Malacañang.
“Surplus money,” as she tooted the “fruits of our reform?”
Finders keepers, but she allegedly keeps everything that is not hers.
Happy borrowing days are here again and Gloria and her gang are ecstatic.

Agreed! A simple story like this should fade away, but never a big story like stealing people’s votes. But there is a common thread that people will always find in these stories (which Baby Bee also endorses) -so called “rules”, or better yet, “rule of law” that the small lady and her minions always flaunt around.
We can only ask, whose rules, or rule of law? Who doesn’t follow the rules? Is the punishment fair while highly placed peoeple in govt break the law with impunity and get away with it? Isn’t a simple story like this a microcosm of the malaise that is now consuming the nation?

I met Satur Ocampo and wife today, and I told him about what happened to your trip to Pakistan. Napailing na lang siya. He asked why, I told him that you are included in the 43 journalists being charged by the Fatso for libel. I told the Japanese NGOs there meeting the Ocampo couple, too, about the lawsuits against you and other 42 journalists. Nagulat sila! Guinness record daw!
Tomorrow, Ocampo is meeting biggies at the Japanese Diet. The Japanese NGOs want him to push against the JPEPA and the toxic wastes that go with the treaty. Fortunately, we have a Diet here that goes by the books. Hindi puede ang stilo nina JdV, Nograles, et al. dito. Nagmumukha tuloy silang yabanjin (savages). The Philippine togressmen I mean! 🙁

“At Bank of the Philippine Islands and its sister-banks…they have a special lane for “Preferred Clients”…” Instead of BPI being friendlier with their customers, it seems they blantantly segregate their clients, and I agree with Ms. Ellen “It’s glaringly discriminatory. They can use a more tactful term.”
The approach of BPI is still like the Spanish feudal system (we shouldn’t really be surprised, the bank is owned by a Spanish-Basque family, Zobel de Ayala). Some things NEVER change, do they? One of the turn-offs in the Philippines, if you ask me!

Ewan ko kung napansin mo ito. OFW ka ba? O napunta ka na ba ng medyo matagal sa labas ng bansa na maraming pinoy? Bakit disiplinado ang mga pinoy doon at hindi sa sariling bansa? Kasi, wala dun ang mga lider nila na siyang mahilig magpalusot at manggantso. Ibang ehemplo ng liderato ang nakikita nila, at ito ay medyo tuwid. Si Drilon nga mismo ay umalma sa US airport ng paghubarin siya ng sapatos, kala niya exempted siya bilang senador tulad ng ibang official kung nasa Pinas sila. Hindi pwede yun dito, kasi pati ang mga ranking officials ay pumipila din at naghuhubad ng sapatos at sinturon. At kung ang isang Fil-Am ay maging govt official, hindi sila gahaman at mapagmalaki. Alam ni Vic at Florry yan, kasi meron ding isang mataas na Fil-Canadian official dun (minister siya ng isang department, di ba). Pero meron bang nabalitaan na favoritism or nepotism or corruption na ginawa siya? Kung meron man, madaling mabisto dahil transparent ang sistema nila dito. Hindi siya tatagal sa puwesto sa sandaling gumawa siya ng karumal-dumal na tulad ng ginagawa ng mga ranking officials diyan sa pinas.
Stop ko na nga ito, baka may sumalungat na naman sa akin dito. Out na muna ako, hindi na ako sasagot sa anumang batikos.

I told her about how Filipinos would not line up to get on a bus but take seats even by passing through the window. For his philandering, I never endorsed Erap when he ran for the presidency. The Scriptures are very explicit about a country or nation being cursed when led by a fornicator and an adulterer regardless of whether or not the leader has a heart for the poor, deprived and oppressed.
However, he won the election, and I thought that removing him from office only to be substituted with another crook was more abhorrable and worse.

Loren Legarda (Rank: 1)
I am amazed by the transformation of Loren, my fellow U.P. alumnus. She started as an honest, unimpeachable figure in the august field of broadcasting. Then it all went downhill from there. I still couldn’t believe why, for the life of me, she would join forces with Erap and FPJ – I can still picture her in my head teary-eyed when the notorious second envelope was not opened (Remember her crying while hugging Pimentel?). Was that all for show? I know politics make strange bedfellows but I never thought she would apply what she did in her own personal life to her political career (Ooppsss…low blow yata yon). This makes Col. Victor Corpus’ famous description of Legarda even more resounding and apt: “She is a political prostitute…”
Francis Pangilinan (Rank: 2-4)
What can I say about “Kiko” aside from the fact that he’s from the Liberal Party and that he is the husband of Sharon Cuneta? Nothing much. And that is what vexes me. For another U.P. alumni, I haven’t heard anything significant coming from “Kiko” since he joined the Senate. Nothing controversial (except perhaps that one time when he got the goat of the Opposition for making the phrase “Noted” famous during GMA’s impeachment deliberations), nothing cerebral. He’s been fence-sitting for the past 3 years. I would rather have someone vitriolic who stands for what he believes in rather than a “safe” senator who stands for evrything or nothing.
Panfilo Lacson (Rank 2-7)
Lacson doesn’t vex me, he scares the living daylights out of me. Nothing in his previous military career has prepared him for the legislative responsibilities required in the Senate. In order to make up for his legislative inadequacies, he resorts to fact-finding activities which virtually transforms the Senate into a tactical interrogation chamber (memories of his Metrocom days during Martial Law). What really scares me is the fact that the Filipino people (MY people) has elected him inspite of his involvement in the nefarious “Kuratong Baleleng massacre” (FYI: The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has so far REFUSED to finalize the inquiry report linking Lacson to the killings.), his supposed millions in U.S. bank accounts as well as real estate properties, his henchmen’s involvement in the gruesome Dacer-Corbito murders, his links with the Aquino-Aragoncillo espionage case and the fact that he bit the hand that fed him (he dumped Bossing Estrada to further his own political ambitions). Filipinos must have a masochistic streak or something for them to elect someone who embodies the very concept of “kamay na bakal” to the hallowed, august halls of the Senate. Like I said, this guy scares the living sh*t ouf me.
Manuel Villar (Rank: 2-8)
The one thing which made me admire Manny Villar is his singular, memorable act of defiance – forwarding the Estrada impeachment complaint to the Senate for trial (amidst the vehement protestations of Erap’s poodles inside the chamber hall). This noble act resurrected my respect for the House of Representatives (which has long been dead and buried until that day). To be frank about it, I never knew he had it in him. Those were his glory days. Then he moved on to the Senate where he became a member of the Committee on Silence (together with “Kiko”) which was ironically founded by Erap during his time as senator. Once in the Senate, he ceased to be an entity. Nothing ever came out from his corner.
Ralph Recto (Rank: 3-8)
Ralph Recto is Tweedle Dumb to Francis Pangilinan’s Tweedle Dee. Both have popular wives (which got them elected in the first place – remember the derogatory monicker “Mr. Vilma Santos”?), both have been relatively silent in the Senate and both have no outstanding achievement to show for their years in the Senate. Recto has two things which distinguishes him from Pangilinan: (1) A political name as he belongs to the clan of the late nationalist and patriot Don Claro M. Recto, and (2) He could not defend his sister from an abusive live-in partner despite being a senator of the Republic i.e. if he could not solve his family’s domestic problems, how could we expect him to solve the country’s?
Vicente Sotto III (Rank: 3-9)
We Filipinos never learn. Why would we ever want to bring this guy back? Let’s look at the facts. He was ineffective as the Vice-Mayor of Quezon City. But due to his popularity, we elected him to the Senate! And what did he do there? He made a drug expose which got no where pretty quick. He even hauled the Eraserheads into the fray by insinuating that the song “Alapaap” refers to drug usage (it probably was true but the point is he is a Senator and not Cristy Fermin out to get a scoop). Any lasting legislative legacy? Nada. Zip. After his fall from the Senate, he became the bullhorn or spokesman of Erap and FPJ. Utang na loob naman…Eh si Tito Escalera ito eh…Gagawin niyo na namang senador? Wag niyo na siyang alisin bilang resident professor ng “Eat Bulaga”…Anak ng tokwa naman…Ganon na ba katanga ang mga botanteng Pilipino?
Aquilino Pimentel III
The only reason this guy is in the list is because of his surname.I would bet P 1,000 that the people interviewed by Pulse Asia thought that Nene Pimentel and Koko Pimentel are one and the same. Yup. We are that stupid. Having said this, electing Koko would be just perpetuating the mess that his father made with his political career and principles. Nene Pimentel WAS (with emphasis on the past tense) a man of principle. But his principles were thrown out the window the moment that he allied himself with Erap, Lacson, the Marcoses and the Aquinos in that poor excuse for a coalition of weird political bedfellows (I think they call themselves the Anti-GMA Coalition or something). In fact, he admitted to Belinda Olivarez-Cunanan in one of her Inquirer columns that he was pandering to the crowd at the expense of his principles. Nakakahiya…Paiyak-iyak pa sa impeachment ni Erap tapos ngayon kung kani-kanino na nakikisama. Talo mo pa si Loren Legarda!
Alan Peter Cayetano (Rank: 4-9)
This guy is one of the Kings of Grandstanding – with his holier-than-thou smirk and his perennial shout of “I have proof!” What the f***? If you have bloody proof then show it and stop saying you have it. This guy could not capitalize on his surname to make him popular, he had to resort to grandstanding to gain political mileage. Unfortunately for him, he probably didn’t read the legislative rules: a Congressman has legislative immunity for remarks made while the Congress is in session. He mouthed off outside of the House and got slapped a series of libel suits. I’m not a fan of Mike Arroyo (never was and never will) but I was tempted to shout: “Behhh…Buti nga…” This supposed man of the people who can’t even speak decent Filipino has a dark secret. During his college days at U.P., he joined a mass demonstration as one of the elected student leaders of the Diliman Campus. When push came to shove and the demonstration was dispersed, the police collared Cayetano. And what did the boy wonder say? He shouted: “Don’t touch me. Don’t you know who I am? I’m the son of Rene Cayetano.” Ang kapal ng mukha nito… This became such a big issue in U.P. that he became the butt of jokes for the whole year. Ask any U.P. student who studied at Diliman from 1989 to 1992. Let’s see him deny this incident…Burgis!
Gregorio Honasan (Rank: 6-11)
Renegade. Putschist. Coup plotter. Deserter. Cashiered. What more can you say? If I would have my way, I’d indict this fugitive for plunder. Why? Because had it not been for his coup plots, the economy of the Philippines would have taken off right after EDSA I. Instead, we experienced billions in economic losses and the economy has never really recovered. He should be shot under the codes of military justice. But what did the Filipino people do? They forgot about his crimes and elected him because he is so “gwapo” and “macho”. Punyeta!!!! Why do people idolize this man? Idealistic men like Trillanes and his minions idolize him for his bravery and vision. But the only consistent trait which Honasan shows to the people is that when things get hot – he escapes and hides. Even now he is in hiding. Ang matapang na si Honasan, laging iniiwan ang mga kasama sa sangkalan. At nang mahalal sa Senado, tumahimik na lamang at naupo sa kangkungan. If he believes what he is doing is right, why doesn’t he face the music? He did nothing in the Senate except to plot coups (another Committe on Silence member). Tapos ibabalik natin? Hijo de patatas!

FPJ did not lose in the 2004 election. He won, despite the disorganization and everything. Dinaya lang ni Gloria Arroyo.
Ellen, I was partly correct in saying FPJ was defeated. Yes, he was defeated by Malacanang and its cohorts (Comelec, PNP, AFP…). The point that I was trying to raise was that Sotto and Oreta, though close allies of Erap, caused the non-reconciliation of the two groups, FPJ and Lacson. Had the two groups joined forces and either one gave in, GMA would have lost no matter how she cheated. For one thing, INC would have supported either Lacson or FPJ if they only agreed to run as a team. An ultimatum was given by Manalo and the two refused; so INC had not choice but to switch to Gloria at the last minute.
Angara caused the split up of Lacson and FPJ just because Lacson was identified with Zamora whom Angara hates so much. Then, Sotto and Oreta were with Angara’s group. They ganged up on Lacson and that was the beginning of the stain in his relationship with Erap. Today, it has become worse with Lacson being booted out from Erap’s list even if Lacson ranked second in the senatorial survey.
