Parang wala silang narinig kahit sinabing may pila.
Fall in line!”
Mukhang walang marunong mag-German.
Parang si Gloria and her Idiots, sinubukan i-singit ang Cha-cha. Buti nalang, the SC caught it!
By hook or by crook wika nga ang sigaw.
Last month, I drove past the gate of the university without paying the usual $3 parking fee, because I was just dropping off somebody a hundred meters away and I was in a hurry. The pinay guard phoned off another guy, who acosted me and said he would issue me a citation ticket. After explaining that I would drop off someone a few meters from where he was and exit thereafter, he let me go. Since then, I would pay the $3 and say “Salamat ha?” to that pinay guard, hoping that next time she would allow me to make a detour without paying. (Of course, I can always get my money back. It’s just that this is too much a hassle paying the parking fee – when I’m not parking – and collecting it back after 5 minutes when I exit. I find it senseless and irrational, though it’s part of a very rational policy.)
I ‘ve had several brushes with Pinoy workers here who are “hard” on their fellow Pinoys, esp. immigrants like me who have an unmistakeable Filipino accent. Even a very close friend of mine one time lectured me on punctuality, saying “my friend, you are not in Pinas, this is America.”
It seems that “singit,” “palusutan,” “isahan,” “Pinoy time,” etc. have become part of the Filipino repertoire that many don’t seem to like, esp. if they are in a position of power, or if they are abroad, or provided it doesn’t happen to them. (No offense meant to Vic and others in this blog.)

hi it’s nice to be back after a week bout with flu. then when i was already feeling well enough to sit infront of my pc to resume my new-found pastime of blogging, i discovered to my dismay that my pc would not boot. something like there’s trouble with the hard disk which i replaced barely a year ago. it took the technician i hired about a week to make the pc work again. i did not bother to ask him what caused the trouble. maybe i can deal with that when the problem recur next time around.
two days ago, i started tapping my keyboard again, commenting on the thread about miriam’s nomination to the SC chief justice slot that will be vacated with CJ panganiban’s retirement comes dec. 4. after a kilometric comment i was ready to click the “submit comment” button but i did not notice my pc already hanged. and when i did finally what i got was a blank screen indicating an error message that the “web page cannot be displayed”. there it goes and all about 7 paragraphs of my comments gone.
the incident involving luli and immigration officer padlan was again overblown. luli i think did not make a big deal out of it. i heard she was not the one who reported the incident to the main office. the immdediate relief of padlan made by commissioner fernandez, i think it is too drastic, even before he can have the incident report and gather all the facts surrounding the case. i doubt it very much if comm. fernandez can do the relief of the alleged erring officer legally without any formal complaint against him. there is a proper procedure for that under the civil service rules. such knee-jerk reaction has all the shades of “sipsip” all over, maybe thinking that since the incident involved a presidential daughter, acting motu proprio will please the dispenser of all graces in malacañang.
the problem is, even padlan is no longer available to give his side other than a phone patch aired on tv where he admitted his improper conduct. well, presidential daughter or ordinary citizens on queue at the immigration counter, all immigration officers not conducting themselves properly may be liable for any act of discourtesy after they have been afforded their right to due process. that’s the long and short of that story.

you bet hawaiianguy, most of us wanted special treatment all the time and to the first always even if there are hundreds already there on queue ahead of us. “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?” i remember that oft-repeated phrase uttered once more by a congressman from cebu snarled at a young traffic officer he slapped for the latter flagging his car down for traffic violation. what a self-worshipping arrogance displayed by a politician who is supposedly a public servant!
Fencesitter,
Right you are in that observation. I saw on TV patrol Karina David saying a similar line, that there are appropriate punishments for various offenses in the civil service. Axing Padlan is too drastic and inhumane for a demeanor that can be penalized by, say, suspension of a week’s salary. Just because of a presidential daughter? Beyond the Padlan case are countless offenses that require harsher punishments, but we don’t see them happening. Clearly, it’s over-reaction or double-standard justice being played out there. The sad thing is, we have officials who want to make “palapad ng papel” (or make “sipsip”), and sad still, it is usually the small fry who is the first to go. Pathetic!
So, Koreano ang culprit ha! The guy must be a frequent flyer to the Philippines, and must have known of the lagay, etc. bad system there that they would not even come to the airport on time but at the last minute, something unthinkable to be done in Japan as a matter of fact.
When I travel for example, I leave my house 4 hours before flight time. The bus to Narita takes about an hour from Tokyo, and from my house to the bus terminal is a 30-minute ride, and I give 30 minutes allowance for buying ticket, etc. Then, we are told to check in 2 hours at the airport, which is what is the purpose of leaving the house 4 hours before flight time. When the immigration line is long, I make sure to finish customs and immigration procedure before doing my shopping at the duty free shops although most of the time, especially when I travel to the USA, I buy cosmetics, etc. on the plane.
One thing we are trained to do here is to be courteous to others and it is the main reason why we can fall in line, and abide by the existing rule.
Still, in this case of Padlan, I cannot understand why the fuss and necessity for his sacking from his post when the daughter of the bogus president cannot follow rules herself.
And as for the Korean being extended such courtesy, it is just to be expected if he is a diplomat. They do the same things to diplomats over her especially when there is what they call protocol! The daughter of the bogus president, on the other hand, when given such can be taken for favoritism, etc. so in more civilized society, such is not granted. Otherwise, as in Japan, it will be in the newspapers the next morning, and news reporters will scramble to attack such special privileges especially when there is suspicion of abuse of power as in the case of the fat husband.
Fencesitter,
“most of us wanted special treatment all the time and to the first always..”
Agreed! Based on your example, however, it appears to be positively correlated with people of power or status. If I were to put it in a hypothesis: “the higher the status (or position of power), the greater the desire for special treatment.” So, that sits well in Luli’s case and that of the Cebu congressman.
BTW, Hawaiianguy, sinabi mo pa. I have had a lot of bad experiences with Filipinos in the USA myself that you cannot help but be aloof and stay away from them.
Years ago, I tried to open an account in the Barclays’ Bank in SFO because I used to have an account in its Oxford Branch when I was a student there. The receptionist was Filipino, and when she heard my sister and me talking in Tagalog, she outrightly refused to accept my application and no reason was given for the rejection. My sister was about to say something nasty, but I told her to beat it.
We went to the neighboring bank and the receptionist was a Latina. There was no problem about opening an account even when I was not a resident there as long as I had my SS No.
Another bad incident was at the toy shop where I bought some Christmas gifts for my son and his cousins. There was no problem with the Vietnamese staff there, but when another staff, a Filipino, heard me and my sister talking in Filipino, he asked for my other credentials to prove that I was the same person whose name was in the credit card that I was paying with. The Vietnamese girl did not mind my having a Japanese name, but the Filipino guy, who must have been used to the swindlers in the Philippines, had to overact in taking precautions even to the point of being brusque and rude and even embarrass me in front of the long line of people waiting for me to be cleared out. Mapapamura ka sa galit. Paskong-pasko pa naman noon! That is why when I go to a bank or a store in the US, I make sure I check who the receptionist or the teller is. Nakakatakot mapapunta sa isang pilipino!
I never felt that way toward a Japanese, however, that oftentimes I wonder if Filipinos do such things deliberately to make their fellow Filipinos hate them and eventually curse the Philippines for that matter. Nakakaiyak sa totoo lang.
to be fair , hindi lang naman dito sa Pilipinas uso ang singitan sa pila … at least dito may pila pa.
Ms. Ellen’s comment about how we ordinary Pinoys maintain our sense of humor despite being on the receiving end of endless pang-aapi from our supposed public servants is spot on.
i remember a poll they did in Hongkong a few years ago … that the happiest group of people in that city are the Pinoys OFWs.
Luli may well be in her rights to inquire why someone was allowed to jump the line at the Immigration counter … but did she inquire or complain why her motorcade on the way to the airport was allowed to ignore traffic lights , why traffic on the other lane was stopped so their motorcade can travel with haste , why they did not have to go through innumerable security checkpoints whose main aim is not security but to confiscate toiletries from hapless travellers …
i may just be speculating and generalizing here. there are exceptions to the rule and Luli may well be that exception. but seeing the kind of trees where her fruit came from ; I doubt it.
Yohoooo! I’m back in. Ellen, something’s got to be done; your blog is like now you see it now you don’t. Oh well, never mind, I’m in, whew (and I got to log in all the time although I’ve already ticked the “remember info box” so should be automatic!”
Speaking of my experience, the only bad experience I had with Filipino sales clerks was once at a Filipinia dept store Makati (I think it was Tesoro’s) – never anywhere else, not in the US, never in Malaysia, neither in London (where I’ve run into a couple of Pinay sales clerks in a nice boutique) nor even in the duty free shops in Pinas.
I was with an assistant (French male technician actually – and yep, I was the boss) and we were shopping for some items as pasalubongs; we were accompanied by our Filipina country rep. Since I walked quite fast, in quick strides as is my habit, I was able to approach one of the interesting counters first leaving the French guy and our Pinay country rep behind and so, asked the sales girl to take out for my inspection a flower brooch in silver which I thought was a nice take home present for my French secretary back at home office. My assistant and our Pinay rep had by then already strutted behind me but to my surprise, the sales girl ignored me and instead greeted the French man directly behind me, “Good afternoon sir, can I help you?”.
I was a bit stunned and for a second, I could only stare at her for the deliberate snub but I repeated my request. The poor girl just stared at me back and it suddenly dawned on me that of course, we were in the Philippines and that the Pinay sales girl would obviously cater to a white client.
I faced her and calmly said, “My dear young lady, I was here first and you ought to serve me first – if you really want to know, I am this man’s boss and you will be doing him great disservice if you continue with that attitude…”
There was a fleeting look of consternation on her face and probably thought I was joking… Fortunately an older sales woman came right away and took over. Our Pinay country rep said in Tagalog, “Hoy, ano ka ba naman, siya ang boss namin at hindi itong puti…”
I actually felt pity for the poor sales girl and I just laughed at the stupidity of the situation. However, I told the older sales woman that they had better be careful again lest the next “Pinay” client could seriously take offence at such blatant discrimination.
ang “SINGIT” at ang “SIPSIP” Part 2!!
tsk! tsk! tsk! Kawawang PADLAN 30yrs. in service to the POOR PEOPLE Sinibak kaagad ng walang due process, not even to explain his side!
If I were Luli, it would do her a lot of mileage if she would take the first step by making sure that the Padlan got reinstated…
Stupid situation.
Our problem is we discriminate against our own people. Fortunately, when I was still in charge of operations for the sector for the European company I was working for at the time, the Filipinos I met were more discerning. Even those who didn’t know my status at first meeting while I was accompanied by a cotterie of white people were extremely careful to show “discrimination” against me. I didn’t have to look or sound bossy at all – matter of fact, when meeting people for the first time, I deliberately made it a point to seem understated to avoid appearing “mayabang” or bossy and I think it helped. I knew it was unusual in Pinas for foreign management to visit local operations headed by a Pinoy, and a woman to boot… nothing unusual elsewhere but Pinas was different. Anyway, I also believe we had an extremely good country rep whom I suppose did a fabulous job to quell doubts.
>So, Koreano ang culprit ha!
Nelbar:
You should see the pictures taken by my friend of the Filipino women working in bars in Pusan and Seoul.
A friend of mine monitoring spammers, etc. in connection with the implementation of the Internet Law here says he can try to see if he can catch the hacker or hackers, but he needs your password that I would not like to ask because of some rules on privacy.
Comparing two nationalities and say that one treats Filipino women better is a lot of BS! What difference are the Koreans from the Japanese and you can include the Chinese? They got the same type of eyes and apetite for sex. Such comparison makes me sick!
In 1999, Hubby and I went to Tibet via Nepal. The line was first orderly until we noticed a very beautiful (pang-Miss Universe) Mongolian lady inching her way to the front. With a smile here and there, the men just seemed happy accomodating her, ang mga babae nagmumura. Suddenly, a Nepalese guy went out of the line and shouted “snake, snake, snake”. Nagkagulo na, hanapan sa ahas! When everything was back to normal, we saw the immigration officer already chatting happily with the beautiful lady, who of course got her passport stamped first without question, while we missed our flight to Tibet.
That’s right, Chi. Luliit is as ugly as her mom. Beauty sure makes the difference. And same goes to good looking men. I used to be treated specially by the bank tellers whenever I entered the bank. But, that was 20 years ago. Today, I’m being asked to fall in line at the back.
Blogger detained briefly at Allen rally —-Yahoo!® News
By MATTHEW BARAKAT, Associated Press Writer
Sat Nov 4, 11:25 PM ET
WEYERS CAVE, Va. – A liberal blogger who was manhandled by supporters of Sen. George Allen this week was handcuffed by authorities and escorted from another rally Saturday after an Allen backer claimed the man pushed him to the ground.
Mike Stark told The Associated Press that sheriff’s deputies detained and released him. He was not charged.
“I’ll own this town,” Stark, a first-year University of Virginia law student, was overheard telling sheriff’s deputies as he was led away from the rally at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport.
Stark said that he was attending the event as a reporter for the Air America Radio network’s “The Young Turks” show and that he wanted to ask Allen about his arrest record and why he didn’t do more to stop his supporters from wrestling him to the ground at a campaign event on Tuesday.
On Saturday, Allen supporters formed a human wall to block Stark’s access to the senator, who is in a tight election race with Democrat Jim Webb. As Stark tried to sidestep the wall, he brushed the side of a supporter, who fell. A deputy sheriff grabbed Stark, put his arm behind his back and led him away to the cheers of about 100 Allen supporters.
Stark said that he had little contact with the man and that he overheard him tell another supporter that he planned to “take a dive.”
The supporter who fell refused to give his name or talk about the incident.
Senatorial aide Dan Allen said his boss was concerned by Stark’s presence because his daughter, a student at nearby James Madison University, was at the event and “he wanted to make sure she was safe.”
“He’s hoping authorities can handle it, and he’s not going to allow incidents like these to distract him from discussing the issues that matter most to him,” the aide said.
Webb campaign spokeswoman Kristin Denny Todd said Saturday that Webb would have no comment.
“There’s nothing for Jim to say — this guy is not affiliated with our campaign,” she said.
On Tuesday, Stark was put in a chokehold and slammed to the floor by three Allen supporters in Charlottesville in an incident captured on video. Witnesses said Stark approached Allen, loudly asking, “Why did you spit at your first wife, George?” in an attempt to ask Allen about his legal history.
Albemarle County records show Allen received two summonses in 1974, but supporting documents were destroyed long ago. Allen has said the offenses were for fishing without a license and unpaid parking tickets.
Allen’s ex-wife, Anne Waddell, later issued a statement calling Stark’s question “a baseless, cheap shot.”
Allen and Webb were about even in a poll released Saturday night by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research. Webb had 46 percent, Allen 45 percent and 7 percent were undecided in the survey of 625 likely voters, conducted Wednesday through Friday for several Virginia newspapers. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. Independent Gail Parker also is on the ballot.

‘Historic year’ for blacks in US races —-BBC News
By Richard Allen Greene
BBC News, Washington
Last Updated: Friday, 3 November 2006, 11:07 GMT
Michael Steele has an uphill battle to fight if he is going to win a seat in the US Senate on Tuesday.
He is running in Maryland, a strongly Democratic state, in what most people expect to be a Democratic year – and Mr Steele is a Republican.
But he is fighting a stronger campaign than many expected, which some say is because a number of influential local Democrats have endorsed him.
The Democrats who are backing him have two things in common with the Republican Mr Steele – they are from the same county, and they are African-American.
And in a state like Maryland – where the black population is about 30%, more than twice the national average – African-American support could make the difference between victory and defeat.
It is not clear that Mr Steele has made large inroads into the black vote, even though some black celebrities have fought his corner, such as boxing promoter Don King.
Polls suggest that he has 12-14% support among blacks, only slightly higher than the national average of African-American backing for Republicans.
High-water mark
But whether he wins or loses on Tuesday, he is part of an important trend, insiders say.
“This is going to be a historic year for black candidates regardless of the results,” Democratic party strategist Donna Brazile told the BBC News website.
No fewer than five African-Americans are running for state-wide office this year – three Republicans and two Democrats.
There have only been five black senators in US history, and only one black state governor.
At least one black politician seems almost certain to win on Tuesday – Deval Patrick, who is running for governor of Massachusetts.
Race is not an issue in the liberal north-eastern state, says David Bositis, an expert on black electoral politics at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies.
But it is playing a role in two other contests – including one that has no black candidate.
Virginia’s Republican Senator George Allen was considered a safe bet for re-election until he was caught on videotape referring to a man of Indian descent as a “macaca” this summer.
The comment – replayed endlessly on television and YouTube – was regarded as a racial slur, and since Mr Allen made it, he has been slipping in the polls.
His Democratic challenger, James Webb, has courted the African-American vote assiduously in the final weeks of the campaign, visiting 12 black churches on one Sunday in late October and appearing with the enormously popular mixed-race Senator Barack Obama days before the vote.
Democrats should not have to work hard to woo black voters this year.
Polls suggest four out of five African-Americans are convinced that the country is on the wrong track, with 86% disapproving of President Bush’s performance.
‘Using race’
Black voters could play a critical role in Tennessee, the other state which Mr Bositis says could turn on race.
Democrat Harold Ford Jnr – the scion of a powerful Tennessee political dynasty – is aiming to become the first African-American to win a Southern Senate seat since the aftermath of the Civil War.
But he appears to be slipping behind his opponent Bob Corker in the race for an open seat.
He had been polling even until the Republican party unleashed a commercial featuring a blonde woman winking and urging Mr Ford to call her – an appeal to the Old-South fear of sexual relations between blacks and whites, experts say.
“Given that the Republicans have resorted to using race, I suspect that the [contest] leans slightly in favour of his opponent,” Mr Bositis says.
The results in Tennessee could have repercussions far beyond the state’s borders, he adds.
“It is one of the more likely places [in the South] that a black candidate could be elected, so if Harold Ford loses, that would be a sign that things aren’t changing that much.”
One man who may be watching for signs of change is Senator Obama, who recently refused to rule out running for president in 2008.
Donna Brazile is also not ruling him out.
“We have seen African-Americans break so many barriers. I believe that after this election cycle we will be moving towards the first black president, the first Hispanic president, the first woman president.”
anna, tawa ako nang tawa sa kwento mo. biruin mo, ginawa kang parang multo na lusot lusot ang tingin ng sales clerk at ang inistima, ‘yung kasama mong french? tapos, with all your humility, in a very civil tone, nagawa mong iparating sa kanya (sales clerk) about that disservice she would have kung uunahin ang hindi niya alam na kasama mong puti who happens to be your subordinate samantalang nauna ka sa pila dahil sa mabilis mong paglalakad.
pwede ba’ng mahingi ang address mo? just for some personal matters. kindly reply to MRivera@redseamallproject.com.
Ellen:
At saka papaanong makakalusot ang Koreano kung may stop line to get to the Immigration counter as in other countries para hindi nalilito ang Immigration officer.
I checked with our post office here, pero wala daw silang magagawa kung ayaw i-deliver. All they can do is request. The action depends on the people there. Sobra and inefficiency hanggang ngayon! Nakakabugnot talaga especially when one is used to efficiency as it is in Japan.
Fortunately, I don’t have any immediate family there now. The only connection we have there actually are some inheritance handed down from generation to generation in the family. Fortunately, hindi pa naman na-landgrab!
Npongco,
That’s real funny.
Ystakei said,
When did you send it, a month/2 months ago? Japan lang yan, ha!
I sent my sister an envelope of five pictures from Denmark four years ago. My sis still waits for it till this very moment.
Baka papuntahin pa si Ellen sa airport custom to claim it. Yes, it’s the policy na raw that if it is a package, doon kukunin sa airport. It’s already three times that my niece in QC was asked to claim my sent package in the aiport custom. She said, hinalughog ang maliit na package and when the custom officer saw the Vit E for my elder sis, sabi daw “pwede bang hati tayo sa bote?”.
The last time I went home to visit my old father was 2004, right after the elections dahil ang poor father was upset dahil sa pagkadaya sa kanyang “Manok”.
Via Singapore ako, so akala marahil ng mga NAIA employees ay madaming OFW’s from S na dumating.
Time ko na, I presented my passport. It’s my policy not to bribe anybody (ayan nga at malinaw ang consequencies ng bribing). Patiently, I waited for 10 min. siguro ‘yon. And then the immigration official said “halika dito sa mas malapit.”
Go ako, bulong ba naman sa akin deretsahan “walang naka-insert dito.” I said, sorry ho, I was fired from work.
Nakasimangot ng isang damungkal, she let me go.
Chi, what I said was true. I hope I could post my photo here taken 20 years ago. They said I looked like the former popular Indian actor Sajid Khan who had a few movies with Nora Aunor. Some also said I looked like actor Pepito Rodriguez, but the darker version. Today, I look like a DOM. That’s life. A person’s physical appearance changes as he gets old.
npongco,
BUT GETS WISER, if he’s enjoying and learning from his rides!
Chi,
The package was sent to Ellen less than 2 weeks ago. It arrived there apparently 3 days after I mailed it from here even when it should be shorter because I have sent similar package to my folks in the US as when I send it on Saturday (Japan time), usually my mother receives it on Tuesday, US time. Then, over in the US or in Japan, it is delivered to the recipient. If the package is deemed important and insured, you get a notice to get it from the post office, which is only a few blocks away by foot or bicycle.
Golly, if they have that kind of policy there, it is no wonder that pilferage is much worst now than before! :-((
Sinabi mo pa!
I sent a package from the US, and the postal officer said 3-7 working days dahil via air. Whoa! My niece got a word from the airport custom after more than 2 long months! Sa airport din kinuha, as usual may hiningi. Nandun na ang package mo para kay Ellen, sinusulyap-sulyapan pa lang, galing kasi sa first world country :).
Npongco,
You said that “A person’s physical appearance changes as he gets old.” That is true, but Chi has a point also by saying that “BUT GETS WISER, if he’s enjoying and learning from his rides!”
My 2-centavos worth to your comment naman:
The one thing that BARELY changes with time is what you are inside. If you feel young, you will act young, and somehow it will show physically. The secret to being youthful is disposition.
Kaso, Chi, nakalagay, CDs of interviews of caregivers plus ionizer for asthma! I deliberately stated that para maawa sana kay Ellen, pero siguro meron may hika doon sa post office kaya pinag-iinteresan! 😛
Over here, pilferage has the same legal weight as robbery and theft. One reason I guess why there are few thieves among the Japanese is because of the legal and moral responsibilities attached to this crime. Ask Taipan88. Alam niya iyan.
Ellen:
I liked what you said in your article today in Malaya: “If Padlan is to be punished for not being polite to Luli, what do we do with Luli’s mother who stole the votes that didn’t belong to her?”
The bogus president should be sacked. Better still, she should be disqualified, arrested and sent to jail together with those who connived with cheating the Filipino voters in 2004 of their votes, including the husband and the children perhaps.
Pare-pareho pala tayo ng experience and observation at the Manila International Airport. That is why when I go there, nakasabit ang Japanese passport ko sa leeg, and I don’t talk Tagalog to the Customs and Immigration officers there.
Sometimes, I pretend I don’t understand them. I hate those who offer to get my bags to make it easier (kuno) to go through customs and immigration procedure. I decline and tell them I can carry my own luggage, and when I travel to the Philippines, I make sure, I travel light to avoid the hussle. Akala kasi lahat ng hapon tanga!
Before they even had this portable toilets in front of the Immigration counter where they strip off Japanese nationals and check them for tattoes, and if they do not pay, they are not allowed to get into the country. Akala mo naman tunay. Ang daming kabulastugan sa totoo lang. ‘Kakaiyak!
“If Padlan is to be punished for not being polite to Luli, what do we do with Luli’s mother who stole the votes that didn’t belong to her?”
Let’s hang her for everyone to see! Or KILITIIN hanggang sa ma-deadbol!
Chi:
Saan mo kikilitiin, sa kilikili? Huwag, baka may anghit! Hang na lang! 😛
hawaiianguy Says:
“Fencesitter,
If I were to put it in a hypothesis: “the higher the status (or position of power), the greater the desire for special treatment.” So, that sits well in Luli’s case and that of the Cebu congressman.”
hawaiianguy there might be some misimpression here.
in the airport incident involving luli, it was somebody who reported it to the top-honcho in BID about the incident. luli did not call her mother to complain about such act of discourtesy of padlan, which is no longer an issue because he admitted it anyway. i would like to believe padlan did not realize luli was on queue or it was the presidential daughter he was talking about.
to be fair, take note that luli did not ask for something about his being a presidential daughter by claiming the first slot next to the immigration counter immediately after she arrived at the pre-departure area. like an ordinary departing passenger, she simply stood next to the last person at the end of the line until her time to be served at the immigration counter which turned sour because of the unfortunate incident. i am repeating the facts here because some of us here are now inventing stories about the incident to justify yet another unreasonable attack against luli. give her a break! while she is her mother’s daughter, direct your anger and hatred to where it properly belong. luli does not dictate to her mother some odious governmental policies and management style that make your blood boil.
a foreigner breaking the queue would not have been an issue had padlan merely processed luli’s documents without further saying something admittedly discourteous. it was none of padlan’s business or problem, not certainly his official duty to remind any passenger the virtue of being punctual if if they came in late and is bumped or left by his or her carrier airline.
Singitan?
I’d like to give Luli a credit for that airport incident. My niece who left for a 3 week vacation yesterday just called up and reported that NAIA people were really “Sweeter and KINDER” to them (arriving passengers), a far cry from the past.
I hope this change of attitude will last …
In the country where i live now, when there are just few people around and they are not falling in line, they know when their turn to be served is. All the customer service officer will ask is ‘who’s next?’. When you go to a bakery for instance, know by face who are there already, so you know that they shd be served first before you. Sadly pinoys who have just arrived here do not know this and it is embarassing.
npongco,
25 years ago, men used to give me a special treatment, kasi, hayup daw ang “wankata,” puwede daw magkompetensiya kay Divina Valencia! ( a boldstar during those days). Such is life , di ba?
Fencesitter, “to be fair, take note that luli did not ask for something…” I didn’t get the full story until you told it. So, Luli is blameless for not even reporting the incident. That, I would concede based on the facts of the case. The “special-treatment” hypothesis is partly correct, partly false.
But I also heard on TV patrol the apology of Padlan (and the sentiment of his family), and the seeming intransigence of Luli as if she was saying “buti nga sa kanya dahil arrogante.” A little incident like this could have passed without becoming a social issue that will destroy somebody’s future. Not to some people around Luli or Padlan, who would seize every opportunity to make a capital out of it. Moreover, I still believe that the Commissioner’s action to axe Padlan is unwarranted and inhumane. The punishment is too much compared to some people whom we know have erred grievously to God and men, but are even rewarded fabulously instead of punished.
Elvira, if you were during the time of Divina Valencia, you could be in your 60s now. Don’t forget Stella Suarez too. Then, my favorite bold star Yvonne. I think I’ve met you and was among the guys who tried to get a glimpse at your sexy body. And I think you were also the one who kept looking at me. But, I assure you I’m younger than you. It’s nice to meet you here again in this blog after all these years.
Elvie:
Divina Valencia is no longer sexy. I saw her in Daly City at one of Lucky’s stores. Kaya huwag kang masiphayo. I know she’s older than me. Kita naman sa mukha. Kaya huwag kang malungkot. You are not alone, sabi nga!
Nelbar is right. Publicity stunt lang iyan!

Nakasimangot ng isang damungkal, she let me go.
BTW, I just heard that the security in London is now allowing gels and cosmetics to be carried on the plane as long as they are in small containers and transparent bags. I was actually getting worried about it because I always carry handcream and cream for the face when flying to the US especially in Winter when the skin gets too dry because of the heater.
The other day, kunyari naman pinahakot sa basurero iyong mga itinapon kuno ng confiscated gel etc. at the Philippine airport. Puro kaplastikan, nakakainis!
On the US continent, I notice that Customs and Immigration procedures now is more or less similar to Japan’s. Even some provisions in the Immigration Law of the US categorizing overstaying and working illegally in the US as a crime is similar to our law here.
talking about bold stars. i could remember stella and divina, but who is this yvonne? when it comes to attraction to the opposite sex, my experience is that elder men becomes more attractive to younger women whereas it is the opposite for women.my wife is becoming more and more zealous as time went by whereas i become less and less zealous.
norpil, yvonne was the queen of pene movies in late 1960’s and early 70’s followed by merle fernandez.
Who is Luli ! To be or not to be fair ! To be fair , Let’s see what she’s doing in that lane. Is she abusing her attachment to as Fake presidential daughter. What kind of passport does she hold? A diplomat passport? ?? hmmmm??
Just an oportunista. Pa quite efek pero di kakagat sa mga pinoy dahil sira na silang fake first family, true mikey a multi millionare at age what, a mansion in lavista? a horse racing worth millions? just where do you he gets the funds to get this kind of horsing breeds? just how many blockbuster movies did he make? not even one i think made it that to be named blockbuster ! I guess it all comes from where the trees and bears fruit of the same kind. Like father like son and like mother like daughter. These fakes first family dont deserve any respect at all since they don’t know how to respect their own countrymen. Lusta ng lusta kala ko tipid measure anong gawa nila sa hongkong nagpapasarap galing ba yan sa bulsa nila o sa taongbayan, o baka kay mang pidal, o kay mang iggyo? what a shame ! I wonder what history will tell about these fake first family? Ano kaya ang sabihin ng mga apo? grabit grabit its mine its all mine. chacha tayo lola gluria.
O what a family . self serving interest is all they want.
Who is Divina Valencia? Is or was she an actress?
By the way, Gina Parreno is coming to Brussels to represent the Philippine entry to an Intl Film fest here.
Divina Valencia was among the sexy stars of the 60s or 70s. Gina Parreno? I hope she has reformed. She used to be a drug addict. Otherwise, she’s one of the best actresses we ever have.
Npongco, Is that so? (drug addict)… Can’t remember her as an actress but I knew she was a pretty girl but I can’t recall Divina Valencia – will come back to me if I see her picture.
I just received an invitation from the embassy and will try to make it to the viewing which is on the 10th of Nov.
norpil,
“my wife is becoming more and more zealous as time went by whereas i become less and less zealous. ”
Hahahah! Siguro, she’s always liked older and so find you fitting the tab marvelously. You should be grateful…
To your wife, I say, go woman, go!
i have always been grateful specially to all the women i have loved, and specially my wife who’s on my side regardless.
Mrivera:
Yvonne is now living in Japan, a reformed woman. She is my sister in church now. She converted to our religion in the early 90’s. She is married to a Japanese, got her permanent residency and is not working at the Yokota Air Base in the outskirts of Tokyo. I was no longer in the Philippines when she became a famous bomba star, so I did not know her as movie star.
I met her in Japan, and I helped her when she got into some problem with her daughter and foster sister, another pinay married to a Japanese who wanted to swindle and extort money from her. Then, she decided she wanted to join our religion, and enjoy the kind of spiritual protection that she observed we seemed to have in our church.
She is now a close friend and a sister.
LOL!
O, puwede na tayong magseryoso uli?
Last time I saw Divina Valencia on TV, she looked heavy. In her time, she was one of the sexiest. As for Yvonne, she was not only a bold star but a pene-star during the early 70s. I know ’cause I used to watch her movies. Her movies then were similar to the Triple X we have today. I don’t know that she’s now a Mormon convert. But, whatever religion or church one belongs, it’s up to the individual to practice what he or she hears. Not putting into practice that is preached to him is useless. For instance, how could one claim to be a faithful member of the true church when she uses profanities and curses at other people in this blog?
Hawaiianguy:
But it’s OK, basta makatulong tayong mapaalis ang salot sa Pilipinas para naman maging proud tayo sa bayang sinilangan!
ystakei, good for yvonne. actually, she proved herself an actress when i watched her in a television soap i can’t remember when. medyo tumaba lang siya ng konti. and she may really be doing it there in japan for good.
I do have my laptop but don’t always carry it out just to chit chat in blogs like this one. Addicted or plain rumor mongerer and personal attacker?
FPJ is nice to women; but he became violent when drunk. He loved to fire his gun when he got drunk.
npongco, FPJ maybe a proven macho, pero wala naman siguro siyang tinapakang tao. tumutulong pero walang pinagkakakilanlang siya ang nagbigay. natatandaan n’yo pa ang landslides sa quezon bago siya pumanaw? ang gloria mas malaki pa ang litrato kesa pinagbalutan ng isang noodles para malaman na galing sa FREZZIDENT OFF THE FHILIFFINEZ ang relief goods na ipinamumudmod. bakit FREZZIDENT OFF THE FHILIFFINEZ? di ba magaling mag-inggles si gloria? ganyan ang pronunciation niya sa kanyang mga address. graduate kasi HARVERD UNIVERZZITY.
Mrivera:
Graduate iyan ng Assumption College for her undergraduate, M. A. yata sa Ateneo and PhD sa UP dahil may nabayaran daw noong presidente kundi si Angara si Abueva!
Hehehe!
