At siyempre panibagong gastos yan.

Pagbabaligtarin mo man lahat peke pa rin kayo.

  3. alitaptap alitaptap

  4. E-mail from Estrella Ronquillo:
    Hi Ellen,

From President to AFP and other government agencies.

Now, Nursing department. It makes me puke. Natutunan lang naman ng Nursing Board Officials ang pandaraya from the Phil. President ano ba naman. Magtataka pa ba kayo? Can you imagine? All over th world kilala ang Philippines sa pagiging mandaraya. Because we have a President setting example to the people to be a MANDARAYA.

  5. E-mail from Lucio Novabos:

Everyone must give upon the dictate of his heart.

Please, puede ba, PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

artsee and tedans, with all due respect, you better stick and focus your discussion to the issue at hand in each thread so that we can better discuss important matters that would help us improve ourselves individually, and enlighten us and enable us to gain clear insights on some complex and technical topics being discussed. stop attacking each other or your force of combatting your common enemy well entrenched and fortied in her malacanang seat will be diminished.

i am sure that after reading all of the conflicting entries here, we can emerged more informed and become a beacon of light that would eliminate the shadow of ignorance pervading in our respective communities and our society at large.

when reading entries here, we should empty ourselves, keep an open mind and acknowledge our own biases and prejudices so that we can still be capable of taking in contrary opinions we do not share with others and compare it with ours. i am sure no matter how an opinion looks so stupid or idiotic, there is always something there we can learned of.

i am not so sure, whether it was lincoln or jefferson who said this: “i may not agree with you but i will defend your right to say it.” free flow of information and intellectual debates (except unsubstantiated or baseless claim [rumors] and libelous statements)are extremely necessary in our intellectual pursuit of the truth. we should not abuse our relative freedom in this blog to advertise our own intellectual superiority over the other or to peddle lies, rumors and unsubstantiated claim to destroy any person we hated most because we cannot attack them upfront. hiding in the anonymity of the blog to attack a person we hate, is pure cowardice. so the test of pure motive is, if we can say face-to-face, without blinking an eyelash, the very same words we are writing here against the person concerned, then such act is indicative of pure intention and clean motive.

a political discourse or discussion based on unresolved grudge and anger will take us nowhere. that is the reason why, our country, after the WW-II, considered the basket case of asia, economically ranked next to japan, had become the sickman of asia now. did we see any marked improvement from the time of president quezon to present? there was none, because the halls of congress are stuffed with few intellectual giants but most of them pure demagogues. the rest were there because the voting masses took pity of them or they became famous via the big screen and boob tubes. so it is no longer amazing to note that our journey as a nation is moving in reverse.

our society is deteriorating because we put blind political leaders leading us straight to the ditch. or we relish in unproductive debates centering on personaliy attack, innuendos and rumors. after all, we have come to accept as wise the show biz philosophy that publicity whether good or bad, is still publicity.

mind you, the most vocal critics themselves do not have ready and sound solutions to the problem bedevilling this poor country.

an intelligent person not necessarily is a wise person.

politicians in all shapes and sizes have used us for too long. public office has become a property forming part of an heirlom, inherited by succession and handed down from generation to generation.

we should get rid of politicans whose qualification is highlighted not by sterling academic or employment track record but because he or she is the next line in political succession. we shuold refuse to give them favor by providing them luxurious vehicle for a free ride in this endless political debates because the very same accussations flying thickly now will be the same issues we will be assailing two or three years after the 2010 presidential election. vicious cyle indeed!

  16. goldenlion goldenlion

  17. florry florry

I think that’s fair enough. So its just fair to give credit to where it’s due, and deny it to cheaters like mrs. Arroyo.

Marami akong kilala na nagta-trabaho sa mga “clubs” just to earn the money she needs to use for her schooling…papaano na ang mga kagay nila ngayon? 🙁

  20. A Land full of fakes!

Yan tuloy ang image ng Pinas ngayon…

    Kakahiya!

We are sending the wrong signal to the youth IF we allow these things to happen.

For me, para walang cloud of doubt hovering among the recent batch of nursing grads….cancell the exam and let them take another one.

It is common knowldge in and out of the PRC na kapag may “koneksyon” ka, pasa ka. Just ask someone privately…daw.
I learned about it from fixers who have access inside and those frequenting commercial establishments in the area. An old friend has one [business] near the PRC office.

  22. Related topic on dayaan. Veronica Uy of Inquirer wrote about the proposal of Comelec’s Abalos to have voting by mail for Filipinos in Korea, etc. Right now Japan and UK are the only two places where OA Voters are allowed to vote by mail. OK sana because of the efficiency for example of the postal service in both countries where the police is controlled by a public commission composed of ordinary citizens not appointed by those sitting in positions in the government. However, much as I admire the dedication of our postal workers in Japan, it does not guarantee that the votes cast by Filipinos cannot be tampered with especially with the Comelec Chief being an appointee of the Pandak, and therefore not immune or independent of the dictate of the person who has appointed him to his position lalo na kung kabalen!!!

In Tokyo, it was easy to detect who cheated in the last election (si Pandak siyempre) because of the low turnout.

No vote by mail.

ASEAN ministers ready to sign for easier trade

Kuala Lumpur, August 24: Asean’s economic minister want to sign an agreement to liberalise logistic services by next April, says Malaysia’s Trade Minister Rafidah Aziz. The services are a key element to facilitating the free flow of trade in the region by the end of the decade.

The ministers have also begun talks to integrate the region’s air transport, e-commerce and health care industry.
“We have to look inwards to see how we can change our policies…to make sure there are better cross-border flows,” she said.

Yesterday, the Southeast Asian ministers agreed to quicken the liberalisation of services and provide incentives to achieve its ambitious plans to create a European-style single market by 2015.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations pledged to progressively remove “all forms of restrictions that affect national treatment and market access limitations by 2015,” the ministers said in a joint statement.

Services included aviation, tourism and health care.

They would extend a waiver of a 30 percent national equity requirement for industrial projects in the region until the end of 2009 to woo more foreign investors amid rising competition from China and India.

The ministers also agreed to remove all non-tariff barriers such as licensing requirements, quantitative restrictions, technical, control and inspection measures by 2012.

Malaysia’s Trade Minister Rafidah Aziz dismissed suggestions that Malaysia’s policy of giving business and other privileges to help Malays compete economically was a barrier to regional trade liberalisation.

The policy, instituted after bloody race riots in 1970, was crucial to ensure political stability,” she said.

“The policy has never been a hindrance…we cannot be talking about economic integration in a vacuum. If one country is not stable, the whole of ASEAN will be hit,” she said.

I’ve read your column in abante bisaya and it seems that you know fully of what had happen around us especially to our president.

Why are people always watching the bad side of one person? Even how bad the person is as what you think but i think not all of what they did are always bad.

Are you perfect? You can’t commit mistakes? The ones who judge the president are they perfect? I’m just wondering why some people want to have a position in a government but yet less of service in the community.

Why they are always criticizing people instead of helping them to make our country grows and develop. They do not realize that we are all filipinos.

We can’t blame all to the president but to the subbordinates.I’m always reading news everyday and the topic is always the same making comments to our leader…..Is that a trade mark as a filipino? Nobody’s perfect. The one who make comments to the president are they perfect?

  27. Bentong Bentong

  28. Apparently, the Internet Brigade are not getting it. Criticizing the Pandak is not being negative. It is seeking redress for a wrong done to the people of the Republic of the Philippines. It not a matter of just cooperating with the president (who?). It is a question of legitimacy. Of course, Filipinos in general would not like to be ruled by a criminal but someone who has admitted committing a crime but pretends to be ignorant of the law, and pretends to be not culpable of the crime she has committed and does her dumbest to prevent the machinery to work and prove her culpability. It is as simple an answer to a question as that. Apparently, a lot many Filipinos are not aware of that so that they are willing to tolerate a criminal who will not hesitate to commit another crime when he/she is able to evade the law even once. In the case of the Pandak, she is able to get out of the mess so easily because she and her husband has made sure they place kin, cronies and friends in positions at the departments responsible for bringing criminals to justice, pamper them even with loots from the treasury, etc. to keep their loyalty! Once the supply dwindles, though, we see once again those balimbings!!!

Kawawang Pilipinas! Patalsikin na, now na!

  29. norpil norpil

the president is not an ordinary person, in fact sitting on the highest position of the land, by her own will makes her the target for all that is happening. and this is not without reason. behind the criticisms are actions or sometimes inaction which some disagree. i think this is just normal in a supposed to be democratic country. if some activists get killed, shall we blame those not in power who has no chance to limit those killings? i think the worst we can do is to be indifferent to what is happening in the phil today.

  33. E-mail from Eddie Guarin:

i hope i will be corrected here if am wrong. i talked with other nurses in this country i live, and i was told that it is only one review center which got the leakage for one reason or another. i am not a nurse but i understand their sentiments. sometimes journalists generalise to highlight their point when they mean only the guilty but there is another point in generalising and that is almost always that the criticism is directed to the guilty and that the innocent normally will not care because something better may come out.

  35. artsee artsee

  36. This cheating definitely is giving ALL Philippine nurses a bad reputation. In fact, Philippine nurses for example in the USA are hired more for out of expediency or necessity than because they are commendably qualified.

Sorry na lang sa mga apektado. All the more reason why the more qualified nurse themselves should feel disgusted with this cheating and condemn it likewise. Tama na ang self-pity at palusot! A wrong is done. It should be corrected and some people have to be made legally responsible for them. Walang dapat na palusot! Nawiwili kasi!

PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA! Hindi naman kailangan ang rebolusyon sa totoo. It is just a matter of implementing seriously the law!

  37. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Based on Gloria’s direction, cheating should be treated as “a win-win solution.” Just provide an insincere public lip services without accountability. And taking a page on Gloria’s book, “how to cheat and get away with murder.” Take it from a professional cheater, its a win-win, Gloria knows best. Cheating is profitable as a already been proven and tested for over 5 years, so how can anyone go wrong. Gloria is the living testimony to the fact that cheating is good -only in the Philippines.

  38. artsee artsee

How to cheat and get away with murder” written by Gloria Arroyo. Magkano kaya ang presyo ng isang kopya.

  39. artsee artsee

One nursing graduate to another: “Kailangan daw tayo magretake ng nursing exam.” Reply to nursing graduate 1: “Bakit, unfair yan.” Answer to nursing graduate 2: “Kasi may dayaan daw.” Reply: “Dayaan? May dayaan din sa election ni GMA. Dapat retake din ang eleksyon!” The next day, GMA, to the surprise of Dante Ang, issues a statement supporting the no-retake position of nursing graduates.

Why should I pay the price?
    CTALK By Cito Beltran
    The Philippine Star 09/01/2006

This is a true story of sacrifice and injustice.

It was a big sacrifice for Noli and his family.

For two years, Noli set out to do what two generations before him couldn’t afford or failed to achieve. A simple dream, a human right. It did not require much travel, nor was it about scaling Mt. Everest.

However, it meant somehow being indebted even if there was no expectation from his sponsor who committed to support his expenses for two years.

It meant not being able to help in the day to day chores of a family where an extra man and extra hands greatly eased his parents’ burden.

And if that wasn’t hard enough he also had to give up on any gimmicks, outings, fiestas that his friends were going to. Given his disadvantage in life, he needed to focus on the goal.

Everyone in the small barangay knew about his good fortune in finding a sponsor, now everybody was watching if he would pass or fail. If he had what it took to reach the goal, to fulfill the dream.

For two years he trained, morning till night, daily he showed up resting only on Sunday to keep a promise to attend Sunday service. Soon enough the dream was more real. He actually had an on the job training.

For that he needed more money. He had to live in Manila for two months, work day and night and adjust to a culture so different from the life he knew in the province.

Inspired by actual work experience, Noli returned to the province to undergo in-house review. That meant asking for another P8,000 from his sponsor. But it would all be worth it once he graduated and that he did.

He wasn’t top of the class but it didn’t matter. Not to him, not to his sponsor, not to the whole barangay. He had a bigger hurdle ahead of him and everyone wanted to encourage him.

Noli was not immune to the envy of his younger brother and sisters who wonder if they will be lucky enough to pursue their dream. Nor could he spare himself the guilt that his brothers and sisters have to pick up the chores he should be doing.

He had to take the state exams. For this he would have to move back to Manila and ask his sponsor for another P25,000 for what they call critical review program. A month later would be the intensive interview training which would cost his parents and grandma P20,000.

It didn’t matter that his grandma was just a cook earning P3,000 or that his father was just a carpenter feeding 5 kids and a grandchild. Even his sponsor ignored the dent on his limited finances. Everyone was taking part in building the dream of the next generation.

Once the dream comes true, the next generation can now believe it can be done. That they can graduate from any course they set their hearts and minds to, that with the help of God and family they can now become licensed professionals.

Noli took the State tests. He passed. He passed the board exams for nursing of 2006.

Two years and more than two hundred thousand pesos later the state now denies him his dream. The state denies the dreams of his parents, his family, his sponsor, even his barangay.

It is claimed that there was a leakage in the exams, that there was cheating in the exams. Claims, claims, claims.

No one had yet been arrested, charged, found guilty. But the reckless, irresponsible, self-appointed guardians of society such as politicians, professionals, government officials, judges even media practitioners simply shoveled out their opinion.

Their hypocrisy and manure in the form of qualified opinion, totally disregarded the rights of the examinees. Suddenly they were all suspect, suddenly they were all probably unfit, suddenly they are now potential risks, questionable employee material.

Would the self righteous be as judgmental and irresponsible if their children were one of the examinees, would they be so quick to deny those who passed their right to take their oath if it were their life savings invested?

They still don’t know where the actual leakage took place. Was it at the PRC, at some review center, at the photo copy shop next to the exam centers, or was it at the exam center itself.

What crime really took place? Leaking, falsification of public document, cheating, murder adultery or just plain bull shit?

Who are the criminals. The leaker or the leakee? The examinees or the PRC, the review centers or the schools.

Who has more to lose and who should the justices be protecting: the rights of those whose future are at stake, whose reputations have been besmirched, whose family savings are depleted or the hypocrites merely protecting their professional status and interest in the guise of public health safety?

Because of SELFISH not SELFLESS interests, because of PARANOIA not PROFESSIONALISM, hundreds if not thousands of Nursing graduates, can’t take their oath, can’t get their license, can’t get jobs, have no way of paying back the support they got for two years and a half.

What I see here is a class action suit against the PRC, the group of people who got a restraining order that prevents those who passed from getting their license, a defamation suit against senators, congressmen, even media for recklessly tarnishing their reputation.

The usual complaints would state . . . sleepless nights, anxiety, loss of income, not just wounded pride but DISHONOR from those who would call themselves HONORABLE.

I throw a challenge at all of you so-called honorable men and women . . . how dare you cite the words “Better to let ten guilty men go free than to condemn an innocent man” as you take away the death penalty and then judge innocent hard working students and condemn the labors of their parents and their families because “SOME, NOT ALL, CHEATED.”

How dare you add insult to injury by demanding that everyone retake the exam!

Yes, adding insult because it would be easier and simpler to stage a retake than to follow the rules of Law, the very same laws you as Jurists and legislators base your accusations and presumptions upon. That sirs is what I call SIMPLETON LAZINESS!!!

You as public officials should be under judgment for pre-empting and not immediately conducting the established rules of investigation. Let the police, the NBI, the PRC, specially the Department of Justice earn its keep as keeper of the law and not as speaker for the cause.

Perhaps even those who claim to be wise men of the law should reflect not only on the provisions of law but intent tempered with just equity for all concerned and not who comes first to their salas.

As for me, I choose to keep faith with the youth, their dreams, and honor their sacrifice. I will continue to be a sponsor, I will continue to fight the good fight.

I shall also leak out a list of all government officials, professionals, and media who DISHORED the truly honorable. Maybe a few thousand votes less, a few thousand readers and viewers, a few hundred thousand pesos of losses will somehow make you realize the need to apologize to our children.

Sinong Noli?
