Noong isang linggo nag-resign ang lahat na miyembro ng Technical Committee in Nursing Education (TCNE) ng Commission on Higher Education dahil nadismaya sa pagpawalang halaga ng pamunuan ng CHED kalidad ng nursing education.
Sabi ng mga nag-bitiw, mas mahalaga raw para sa pamunuan ng CHED ang negosyo at pulitika.
Ito ang mga pangalan ng mga nag-resign na board members ng TCNE. Dapat suportahan natin sila dahil naninindigan sila sa kanilang prinsipyo at pinapahalagahan nila ang kapakanan ng bayan.
Sila ay sina Carmelita C. Divinagracia, dean ng University of the East- Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center College of Nursing; Remedios L. Fernandez ng Board of Nursing; Amelia Rosales, chief of nurses ng Makati Medical Center; Zylma Sanchez, dati sa Philippine Heart Center; Glenda Vargas, dean ng University of Santo Tomas College of Nursing; at Rita Tamse, deputy director for nursing ng Philippine Heart Center.
Sa kanilang resignation letter, sinabi ng anim na, “hindi kami sinusuportahan ng CHED commissioners at ng mga regional directors sa pagpapairal ng kalidad ng nursing education sa Pilipinas, na siyang pangunahing naming misyon.”
Sinabi pa nila na sa halip ang mga CHED commissioners at mga regional directors , “madaling ma-pressure sa ng ma negosyante at pulitiko at ito ay nagre-resulta sa pagbaba ng kalidad ng nursing education.”
Matamlay ang sagot ni chairman ng CED na si Carlito Puno. Sabi niya, “I deny that. Kami dito sa Comission ay nag-iingat.Hindi yung sugod ng sugod.”
Para na rin niyang inamin ang mga sinabi ng miyembro ng TCNE.
Nagkalat na ngayon ang nursing schools dahil sa maraming pangangailangan ng nurses sa abroad, hindi lamang para nurse kundi na rin caregiver. Ang pagiging nurse ang pinakamadaling paraan para mag-abroad. Di ba kahit mga doctor ngayon ay nagiging nurse na.
Problema lang marami na rin sa ating mga nursing schools ay diploma mill. Ibig sabihin nun raket. Wala namang natutunan ang mga nag-aaral.
Umaabot sa 460 ang nursing schools sa bansa. Mga 12 per cent ang masasabing magagaling at halos 90 per cent ng kanilang mga graduates ay nakakapasa sa licensing exam para sa mga nurses. Mataas na porsiyento, halos umaabot sa 40 per cent ng mga nursing schools ay palpak. Walang nakakapasa or zero sa kanilang mga graduates ang nakakapasa.
Kawawa ang mga magulang at estudyante na naloloko nitong mga eskwelahan. Magastos ang kursong nursing. At sayang ang oras ng estudyante na naglulukhan lang pala sa classroom.
Dahil sa hindi nakakapasa ang kanilang mga estudlyante sa board exams, ang nilalakad naman nitong ma may-ari ng mga fly-by-night na nursing schools ay ibaba ang passing scores.
Ang mangyayari diyan, magkaroon tayo ng maraming licensed nurses na hindi marunong sa trabaho at responsibilidad ng nurse. Hindi lang palpak ang mangyayari. Disaster! Isipin mo na lang sa mga operating rooms ng mga ospital. Magkakaroon ng mga nurse na hindi alam ang ginagawa. Patay ang pasyente. Patay na tayo lahat.
Gustong ipasara ng mga nag-resign na miyembro ang committee itong mga eskwelahan ngunit hindi umaaksyon ang mga commissioners. Siyempre negosyo. May kasama na ring pulitika.
kailangan pa ba nating sambiting kung ano ang dahilan ng kabulastugan na iyan? “Pare ko, kausapin mo naman si kongressman tong na makalusot tong nursing school na tinatayo ko. Hapi-hapi tayong lahat diyan!” Need I say more?

It actually makes me sick especially when it is obvious that this is a scam for how do you teach these kids to be good caregivers with a six-month crash course in setting up beds, washing linens, etc. that are mainly in fact domestic chores and some basic lessons in Japanese, French and Arabic (daw) when it took me years in fact to perfect my Japanese that I started learning in fact when I was 11 or 12 years old and continued on until I could read newspapers and books in Japanese.

In Japan for instance, free and compulsory educatio is imposed till the 9th grade, and children below 18 cannot work in any establishment in Japan, and by 18, if they want to do part-time work, they have to go through the educational board to get a permit to work until they reach 20, which is the age of majority here. Tangna (excuse the language) itong administrasyon ni Pandak, ang iniisip hindi bigyan ng education ang mga pilipino kundi gamitin ang mga pilipino para isaksak sa ibang bansa para pangtustos sa mga kawalanghiyaan niya at ng mga kasama niyang kurakot!

They call it Junior Caregiver Course and with the sanction and authorization of the DoLE. It is attracting kids from 13 to 17 years old to attend this 6-month course on domestic helping as a matter of fact!

Sabi nga noong isang former student nila, ni hindi daw sila naturuan kung paano kumuha ng blood pressure sa pasyente.Ang subject na Anatomy ang nagtuturo ay Psychology graduate.

STI inks pact with SM for its medical center project

Computer technology school STI has signed an agreement with the SM Group to lease a space in Megamall for its planned medical and wellness center.
STI president and chief executive officer Monico Jacob said the group is investing P100 million for the proposed health and wellness center which will be located in a 2,100 square meter space on the fourth or fifth floor of SM Megamall.
Jacob said the center will provide medical services including diagnostics, lab services, and physical therapy.
The move, he said, is part of the group’s plan to put up satellite clinics all over the country.
STI recently ventured into healthcare services via the acquisition of the De Los Santos Medical Center, now named DLS-STI Medical Center.
It plans to put up a Medical Arts Building and a state-of-the-art operating facility to add to the existing infrastructures of DLS-STI.
Jacob said STI plans to acquire more hospitals to strengthen both its nursing program and the system assuring graduates of jobs.
The buy-in is part of the company’s initiatives to strengthen a scheme which allows STI students to immediately land a job after graduation.
STI has invested more than P100 million in its nursing program. Part of the amount was spent to hire accredited faculty and facilities for its nursing skills laboratories which are designed to stimulate the actual hospital setting in each STI campus offering the nursing program.
Together with PHNS, STI recently acquired a majority stake in Summit Technologies Inc., a local medical transcription company. This is in line with its goal to capture a slice of the promising medical transcription services industry.
Medical transcription refers to the conversion of the medical records dictated by health care professionals into typed documents. These records can be diagnosis, progress reports, chart notes, physicals, histories and even letters.
PHNS is a medical transcription company operating in the United States.

STI ventures into call centers
System Technology Institute (STI), an information technology school, is set to start a call-center business next month that will open jobs to its own graduates.
“The idea really is to bring affordable education to the students and employment to the people,” Monico Jacob, STI chairman said.
Jacob said that some 80 STI campuses, which operate as education and training institutions by day, will be transformed into call centers by night. Once established, these call centers are expected to create at least 4,000 seats.
“We’re going to awaken those computers at night and use them to help secure employment for our students first and for the public in general. By February [we will start] in Makati [campus] and roll it out [nationwide] within the year,” Jacob said.
A pilot call center will be established in the STI Makati College campus next month.
Jacob said STI’s plan to open a call center business unit affirms the school’s confidence in the strength of the Philippines as a hub of the $100-billion global customer care operations.
STI recently tied up with California-based solutions provider Five9 and John F. Kennedy (JFK) Center Foundation to provide world-class training to Filipino students wanting to work in contact/call centers. The long-term goal is to turn the Philippines into a global-customer care capital of the world next to India.
Jacob said the support of Five9 and JFK puts STI in the best position to provide the infrastructure and human resources in developing the call-center business as a cottage industry in the provinces.
Under the agreement, 80 centers will be put up in STI facilities, each with a minimum of 50 seats, with Five9 providing the technology and JFK the training of STI graduates prior to their employment as call center agents.
The plan to open call centers, Monico said, is consistent with the school’s “enrollment-to-employment” vision, wherein students are fully prepared for actual working conditions to ensure their chances of getting hired.
Plan to develop SME call centers
Rigoberto Tiglao, Philippine ambassador to Greece and former Presidential Management Staff chief said the partnership was forged to develop 400 to 500 small to medium-sized call centers in the countryside that will generate an additional 88,000 jobs by 2008.
The Jobs Generation Office, under the Office of the President, signed a memorandum of agreement with Five9, JFK Center Foundation-Philippines and STI to drive employment activities in ICT sector.
Under the agreement, the government will provide the policy environment; Five9, the technology; JFK, the training; and STI, the infrastructure and manpower.

PRC confirms leakage in nursing exam
The Professional Regulation Commission confirmed Thursday that test questions in the nursing board examination last month have been leaked, ABS-CBN News learned.
A PRC fact-finding committee tasked to probe the leakage also said that the leakage during the test from June 11-12 was traced to two members of the Board of Nursing. The committee recommended the filing of administrative charges against the two.
The committee, however, did not identify the board officials. They were earlier directed by the board to inhibit themselves from the processing and release of the results pending the investigation.
“This leakage irregularity shall be referred to the National Bureau of Investigation for its own investigation and determination of all persons and parties involved and their criminal prosecution under the law,” the fact-finding body said.
The report was signed by Leonor Tripon-Rosero, chairwoman, and commissioners Avelina de la Rea and Renato Valdecantos.
Talk and news reports of the test leakage came out after an examinee, who declined to identify herself, said that a review center in Baguio City handed out test questions that would appear in the exam.
The PRC earlier denied the rumors, saying that the examination system has been improved to prevent leakages.
The exam results are expected to be released next week.

Pero alam natin na ilan nang mga pilipina ang napapatay doon subalit hindi nabibigyan ng hustisya ang kanilang pagkamatay, pero hindi pa rin natitinag ang mga pilipinang ito na makipagsapalaran dahil sa mahigpit na pangangailangan gawa nang wala namang ginagawa itong si Pandak para bumuti ang mga buhay nila kundi itulak sila sa ibang bansa para doon humanap ng kanilang kasaganahan.
Hindi ko naranasan iyan at hindi ako dumaan sa ganyang mga pagsubok pero alam ko ang mga problemang iyan gawa ng ginagawa kong pagsama sa mga advocacy tungkol sa mga human trafficking na ito mula pa noong 70’s. Noon pa ay nagshe-shelter na ako ng mga pilipinong tumatakbo sa mga abusadong amo na mga dayuhan lamang dahil hindi puedeng kumuha ng katulong sa ibang bansa ang mga hapon.
Dapat talagang ihinto na ang human trafficking na business na ito ng pamahalaan ng Pilipinas. Patalsikin na ang pinaka-bugaw na Mama-san na si Pandak.
