He didn’t quit;he was fired

Let’s call a spade a spade: Ambassador Albert del Rosario did not quit. He was fired.

Gloria Arroyo’s “It is with much regret that I accept Ambassador Albert del Rosario’s resignation ” is sheer hypocrisy.

A Malacañang insider said “she was passionate about getting Del Rosario out of Washington, D.C.”albert del rosario.jpg

A few weeks back, Arroyo, through third persons, asked for Del Rosario’s resignation. She was throwing tantrums. “I want his resignation! I want him out! Now! Now!” a Malacañang insider quoted GMA. Why she did not tell it herself directly to Del Rosario adds to her reputation of duplicity.

When she finally decided to announce the termination of Del Rosario’s services last Tuesday, June 13, she didn’t even bother to call him before she issued the statement. But of course she leaked it to Philippine Star publisher Max Soliven who came out with the “scoop”, the day Malacañang announced Del Rosario’s “resignation”.

Del Rosario’s statement, issued after Malacañang’s announcement accepting his “resignation”, never mentioned that he quit. He said, “I have been recalled and will therefore end my posting as the Philippine ambassador to the United States effective July 8.”

“My departure from Washington D.C. shortly thereafter,” he added, “will enable my early return to the private sector.” Take note of the word “early.”

That belies Arroyo’s statement that “after five very fruitful and meaningful years as the Philippine ambassador to the United States, he has asked that he be allowed to return home and resume his life in the private sector.”

Actually Del Rosario resigned two years ago but Arroyo rejected it because she could not find anybody of his stature to represent her in Washington.

Del Rosario was prepared, at great sacrifice for him financially, to stay on until end of this year. In fact he has lined up a number of projects in the coming months. He is organizing the second Ambassadors and Consuls General Tour of the Philippines on July 13 to 22 for Fil-Ams and other prospective investors in the US and Canada to visit the Philippines. Another event is also being planned in Hawaii in September.

Del Rosario’s trouble with Malacañang started last year when he opposed the hiring of Venable LLP as another lobby group for the Philippine government, aside from the ones Malacañang maintains that include Burson Marsteller.

Although it was national security adviser Norberto Gonzales who was the front man in the million-dollar Venable LLP contract, Malacañang sources said the one really behind it was Arroyo’s brother, Diosdado “Buboy” Macapagal Jr.

The contract with Venable LLP was for the American law firm to “secure grants and (US) congressional earmarks” for her initiative to “reshape the form of government…into a parliamentary federal system.”

Venable was also tapped by Malacañang to get a White House invitation for Arroyo because they were disappointed by Del Rosario’s inability to get one. But up to now, there has been no invitation from President Bush for Arroyo.

Last February, Venable LLP arranged a speaking engagement for Arroyo with the Washington D.C. National Press Club but it was cancelled when they failed to get other meetings for Arroyo.

In a scathing criticism of Arroyo last April, a conservative think-tank, Heritage Foundation suggested using Arroyo’s fervent desire for a White House visit to compel her to stop her undemocratic tendencies. Heritage’s senior political analyst Dana Dillon said: ” We have a carrot to offer. Arroyo desperately wants a visit with President Bush to shore up her shaky political situation at home. We should tell her to get serious about apprehending those who kill journalists and about preventing intimidation of the press. If she does, we can discuss a presidential visit. But not before.”

Arroyo blamed Del Rosario for that Heritage criticism and the April 5 New York Times editorial that said Arroyo is “reviving bad memories of crony corruption, presidential vote-rigging and intimidation of critical journalists.”

A source said that when Arroyo’s displeasure reached Del Rosario, he refused to give his resignation given the circumstances under which it was asked. That incensed Arroyo, the source said. Thus, the firing.

Loida Nicolas Lewis, national chairman of The National Federation of Filipino American Associations, issued a statement praising Del Rosario belying Malacañang advisers’ allegation of ineffectiveness .

Lewis said: “We are particularly grateful for his leadership in opening up opportunities for us to give back especially to the land of our birth: he encouraged and assisted us in our initiative to lobby for the amendment to the money laundering laws in the Philippines, facilitating our remittances to help our loved ones back home; and making sure that investment returns meet the expectation of CalPERS. Moreover, we’ve been heartened by his efforts to strengthen the US-Philippines Friendship Caucus (which raised the spirit of amity and understanding between the two countries), to establish a Memorandum of Agreement with NAFFAA on distressed Philippine nationals, and to collaborate with Filipino American organizations in providing much-needed assistance to Hurricane Katrina survivors.”

If Malacañang feels frustrated about Arroyo’s negative image in the US, despite all the propaganda they are dishing out, they should not heap the blame on Del Rosario. They should go back to Marketing 101. It’s the product, stupid.

  1. Di naman nga sya nagkulang sa promotion, place at people

talagang yung product nya ang me diperensya…..

That is another lapse that reflects on GMA.

So when some one hates what she sees in the mirror;binanabasag nya ang salamin hindi ang mukha nya.

  3. Disassembling, then what follows definitely is reassembling.

If the mirror analogy again is to be used, puro lamat na pag nabuo ang reassembled mirror from broken glass.

Works of a demon!!. Amb. Del Rosario did not resigned. He was fired. Of course!, gloria will deny it, as usual (she, the liar) will say blah, blah, blah. To hell with you little demon! She can put all her allies to Washington D.C. post just to clear her image to P. Bush but she will not succeed. Her image is not only tainted, it is collapsing just like the economy of the Philppines.

Mark my words!!!

    Goldenlion:

You made my day dahil may mga ungas na matitigas ang ulo sa kabila!

So did the young members of some UP association who shouted at the Bansot during some affair a the UP PGH where the students of UP are allowed by law to do their thing as long as they do not harm anyone physically.

Those PNP officers should be reprimanded for going out of their duty to protect a criminal!

O, give me five!

  6. ystakei ystakei

One wonders why the heck is this happening to us, the answers perhaps is the divisiness cause by a person or a group of people.

The problem with Amb. Del Rosario’s so called “recalling” to the home has left more questions than answers.

    1. All AMbassadors, appointee or career serves at the pleasure/s of the appointing authority
    2. The appointing authority, anytime of the day, may recall the head/s of post, if he/she fails to comply with the order from the appointing authority
    3. Head/s of post/s are recalled for official consulatation
    4. Head/s of post/s are recalled if he/she has a falling out with the appointing authority
    5. If the appointing authority feels that the appointee is not serving properly

the lists adds up, the problem with the del rosario case, he has requested two yearsag or before the election to go back to private practice, but was turned downed byu the leprechaun.

Now, as per information, he got fired, becuase he cannot get an appointment/meeting with pres. bush for the leprechaun, tsk, tsk, tsk…….

The problem with these appointees, nagpapagamit sila, pagakatapos na hindi nila magawa ang isan utos ay “YAARI KA”!!!!!!

It just shows, that the leprecahun is not liked in washington, but she still persists in unstructing del rosario to get and appointment with bush.

Can’t the leprechaun read between the lines, she’s not liked by bush anymore, if she still has delicadeza??? she must make a “constructive resignation” (hehehehehehehe) now na. Kapit sa patalim.

If gloria has delicadeza, she should now resign and call a snap election. Going back to del rosaario, of course, they will not admit the he was sacked by the flip-flopping illegitimate president of our country, they all say, (as del roario claimed) for early return to private life, tsk, tsk, tsk, (pati ba naman sa pagasibak sa kanya e, nagsisinungaling pa rin) tama na sobra na, patalsikin na NOW NA!!!!!

  8. ystakei ystakei

The point, Jinx, is why allow yourself to work for a criminal suspect if there is no intention to one self a favor, too, like having monopoly of the business in the post assigned to the appointee as in the case of many ambassadors of the Philippines to Japan compared to the more cultured ambassador for example of UK here who, more often than not, are Japanophiles!

Meron nga dito dating ambassador ng Japan na nagmalaking hindi siya sinusuwelduhan ng Philippine government pero kaniya naman lahat ang negosyo ng Hapon—monopoly niya–hanggang sa nainggit si Pandak at si Tabatsoy na ngayon ang nagte-take over ng mga business interests dito na swinapang na according to my source.

They should get rid of these political appointees in the DFA. Let the career diplomats do the job. They are better trained in that!

  10. Karl,

Your observation on the Arroyo mirror mirron on the wall song was on target. Very incisive and reflects the true character of the enchanted queen.

    I enjoyed reading that.

  11. manuelbuencamino manuelbuencamino

I have no sympathy for Del Rosario.

  12. Ellen,

Gloria liee. This woman is an inveterate liar. Here’s what I said in a comment to MBuencamino’s about Gloria’s penchant for lying:

“I don’t know if ANYONE can believe whatever Gloria says now, seriously or not. She’s lied once too often.

Perhaps, the following analogy might explain what I meant.

One might say the husband deserves what’s coming to him if he continues to believe his wife whom he has found out to lie once too often or caught en flagrant délit of adultery.

Hasn’t Gloria declared that she is MARRIED to the NATION? Well, her de-facto spouse – the nation – should be more than circumspect now because, she’s lied to him once too often…”

  13. octavian octavian

  14. ystakei ystakei

You bet, Jinx, there is no point to disagree especially when we are one and the same in wishing the Philippines well.

Funny how easy to spot the Internet Brigade of the Midget posting in this blog with their weirdo reasonings akin to those of the Bansot and her palakpak minions.

I’ve actually learned to hold my pit and reserve my energy to battle in the best way I can, especially on something I know well enough to put in a good fight.

I’ve worked the longest as a matter of fact—I consider myself a pioneer—in this campaign to stop human trafficking to Japan especially from the Philippines to which Japan had granted a special quota for entertainers, not bar and club hostesses, to help boost up Philippine economic recovery after Marcos.

God has been good to make us succeed and see the results of our efforts to stop the deployment for example of young boys and girls to Japan to work in bars and clubs, and corrupt them in their youth. Our immigration law has closed the door for these recruits who should have been in school, not working in bars and clubs cuddling dirty old men.

What is disgusting is when the Midget, et al would not give up but try to push this human trafficking down the throats of our officials here, asking shamelessly for some waiver for these white slaves. Worse was when a Midget ally at Congress came here and shamelessly brag about Filipino workers labelled as export commodities, not human beings, in a vain attempt, I guess, to camouflage this deployment of Philippine workers as legitimate measure to solve the problem of unemployment in the Philippines, and not what it is in principle is all about, “human trafficking.” In the old world, it was called “slavery”!

What these shenanigans do apparently is deliberately make life in the Philippines that miserable enough for the ordinary Filipino to feel so helpless and hopeless to make them agree to working even in war zones without insurance, etc. fringe benefits to insure a life of plenty for those they are likely to leave behind!

Out of politics, perhaps, Del Rosario can start making amends now to the Filipinos for making the mistake of serving a crook longer than those who have served the Midget like some “katulong.”

  15. For Sir Yuko,
It is nice to know sir, that there are those helping kapwa pinoys in Japan.Even knowing that there is an interpreter for them in your town.
    Re:trafficking
I had a friend who married a product of trafficking..sinalo pa nga nya yung anak eh.
the only thing bugging me is the fact that she wants to go back and take her chances again.
But with the likes of you who is vigilant against trafficking she might be well off, after all.

About my pasts comments on our farmers leaving for Japan,Madami na po bang mga farmers dyan.Naku kaaawang pilipinas !

  16. You’re welcome Karl!

Re Octavian’s “sabay himas ng buntot nya at punas ng sungay nya. bwa ha ha ha”

    Hahahahahah!

  17. About the thing we discussed the past few days….

talaga yatang me ibang mundo ang mag admin congressman and cabinet.

  18. ystakei ystakei

Never heard of these farmers! Baka nadenggoy ang mga iyan, being made to work in some factories. If you can give me some names and birthdates,

I can have them checked at the Immigration and the police can find them and know what kind of slavery they are being forced to do in Japan. For one thing, Japanese farmers do not need another farmer from the Philippines to till their lands. What they need are wives to bear them children because Japanese women are so emancipated that they are optioning to marry later and have flings in their youth.

They are so many rackets regarding this deployment of Filipinos overseas that I want this human trafficking to be stopped. At least, in Japan, I can work with the police and other agencies to have this stopped without fear or favor.

I’d rather that they send skilled laborers here than the non-skilled, especially those who have not finished even elementary or high school. They become victims of these recruiters who have legitimate status because of their DoLE connections. At least, the more qualified will know how to fight for their rights and privileges even as foreigners in Japan.

One thing, we are watching carefully will be the influx of fake nurses, etc. into Japan, and these girls and boys ending up workingin bars and clubs in Japan. Fortunately, the Japanese government is not easy to grant visas to these people, and additional addenda to the new Immigration Law are being added to make sure that these so-called “caregivers” do not end up trying to impregnate themselves with children of Japanese nationals for the visa.

Can’t imagine the benefit of a society made up of a majority of bastard children of foreign bar girls that Japan is likely to have if this influx of these wayward women and binabae is not stopped!!!

Iyan ang bumatikos ng OFW votes as a matter of fact.

I’m not for impeachment. I’m for the disqualification of the Bansot.

On the other hand, isang kaibigan kong journalist na may programa sa TV noon.

Golly, shocking!

  21. Media is a microcosm of Philippines society. Corruption is flagrant. I am embarrassed seeing fellow journalists “operate” with their sources. You’ll be shocked who these journalists are. They are not just the small-time reporters. Columnists! I’m so ashamed of them.

  22. Manuel, what’s the problem with Del Rosario?

Re PGH heckling: I was at PGH today and many of the employees were glad that it happened. They had a great time retelling to me what happened and how upset Arroyo was. That’s how hated Gloria Arroyo is.

  23. ystakei ystakei

Right, Anna?

There is no forgiveness as a matter of fact where there is no restitution for sins committed.

  24. ystakei ystakei

I know, Ellen. I met a lot of them crooks here, and during visits to Manila. Kakahiya! I was a special correspondent for a news agency in Manila with Fred Gabot as my editor. Golly, shock ako when I was told that I should be grateful I was being paid. Iyong mga ibang reporter daw are paid by their political backers whom they propagandized, and they pay the newspaper to publish their propaganda.

Buti na lang, I was doing part-time collaboration with media in Japan, and translations/interpretations for the police, court, and prison, and I could not be tempted to do something not in accordance with what I resolved to do—report and expose anomalies involving Filipinos in Japan without fear or favor!!!

My training with the Japanese media proved beneficial even in what I share in blogs like this. I talk only on things I know based on confirmed and valid testimonies!!!

  25. ystakei ystakei

On the other hand, I won’t recommend watching those propaganda videos the Bansot has ordered made to boost up her image. Puro kasinungalingan din, walang silbi. Ang sarap batukan!

  26. ystakei ystakei

Utak sinungaling talaga!!!

  27. ystakei ystakei

    Karl,

Sabi ni Reyna Engkantada noong state visit niya dito sa Diet, “Japan is aging. It needs to be rejuvenated with young Filipino blood!” Nagpapalakpakan iyong mga DOM (Dirty Old Men=Henna Ojisan!) Labas ang natural niya—Bugaw pala!

  28. Ma’am Yuko,
The farmers was mentioned in an Abs cbn news report, sorry I can not give names of the farmers.

Yung kanina nabanggit ko na Filipina entertainer married to my friend ,am sorry I can not give her name at baka di naman sya natuloy bumalik sa Japan.

    Bumalik tayo sa farmers….

me nakita akong article pero ito ay tungkol sa young Filipino farmers training in japan.

    http://www.da.gov.ph/programs/faps/syff.html

other than that wala na akong makita sa web.

I will rephrase it then,I am in favor in charter change as long as what follows or preceeds it would NOT be martial law.

and I am for it as long as gma is not the president.

me nabanggiut ako last week sa ibang blog na tatanggapin ko ang resulta ng impeachment kung ano man yon, mukhang binabawi ko na.

  29. Thanks, Ma’am Yuko.

    Sorry I called you sir.

And about the farmers, I just seen the report on an abs cbn news documentary am glad that it is not prevalent because you have not heard of it yet.

About the bugaw part, yan nga ang ginagawa nya she is a pimp.
i would have said “mama san” but it might turn out to be offensive.

And lastly, what i meant by batas militar was martial law.

    Many many thanks.

    Karl:

I doubt that there is this recruitment in the farm for foreign farmers kundi ang mga iyan ay pihadong ni-recruit sa mga pabrika.

May bakla pa!

Diyos mahabag! Kawawang bansa!

  31. Karl, Yuko,

These farmers are considered OJTs (on-the-job trainees). They are chosen from farming cooperatives from the Northern part of Luzon. They are trained on new farming methods but at the same time receive compensation for their work. They end their internship after 8 months (not so sure)and return to the Phil. to impart what they learned to other farmers.

But I also heard rumors that the princess intends to “export” our farmers abroad as there are no new expansions in the agricultural sector. We have so many lands to till here but are owned by so few.

I would call GMA and her minions as “KAPIT-ALISKA”. KAPIT for their tenacious hold to power and ALISKA for GMA penchant for removing from office those who go against her whims.

  32. Gloria’s tantrums are like a lil kid’s because she is so bansot that she can’t stand it when people take the higher moral ground and become taller than she is…

    Examples:

“I don’t like del Rosario anymore, he didn’t kiss me goodbye before he left for the US, boohooohoooo!” Bam! Del Rosario gets bashed on the head and pulled from under his feet…

“Satur Ocampo stuck his tongue at me and told me that Joma wouldn’t give me a copy of his newly cut CD and I want to listen to Joma sing – waaahhhhhhhhh!” Bam! Satur gets shackled and dragged to the dungeon…

“Ms Panganiban-Perez, that horrible journalist trying to be cute and is snatching all my friends, wahwahwaaaaaah” Bam, Panganiban-Perez was banished to oblivion…

“I want the name of this horrid place changed – I want my Daddddddddy, Daddddyyyyyyy!” So the nannies scramble and change the name to Don Dioskopo Macapagal International Airport…

The list of tantrums is endless….

  33. manuelbuencamino manuelbuencamino

    Ellen,

I don’t know anything about the guy. I heard he was professional, decent, capable, and a nice guy. Too bad he threw it all away by associating with Gloria.

  34. Ellen,

According to the Malaya front page report, US Ambassador Kenny said both the US and the Philippines are concerned over the global terrorist threat and she also was quoted to have declared, “One person who is not allowing your citizens to live a peaceful, productive life is one person too many.”

Hmmm… I like this US Ambassador! She’s been able to pinpoint our real problem but said it so diplomatically… Moreover, unlike Gloria who like dagdags, Mrs Kenney prefers bawas – heheh!

Yep, Madame Ambassador, Gloria is one person too many!

  35. Every person whom Gloria touches is like nakukulam and before they realize anything, they’re upside down…

    Like na-kamandag sila… eeeeeeeeek!

  36. Anna,

I’m not sure if Amb. Kenney presented her credentials in person to GMA. The first thing she did when she got here was to have a long talk with Drilon (she visisted the senate first). Quite unusual for a new ambassador to do if you ask me. Its protocol for the incoming ambassador to meet with the host country’s president to present her credentials. Either this practice has changed or she just doesn’t like GMA at all.

It could be the Midas Touch which turns everything to gold but then again, anything this midget touches turns to shit.

    Schumey:

If the US ambassador has not presented her credential and the Midget has not confirmed, then she must be a temp.

According to what I have read in the newspapers, she denies that the US government has anything to do with what the private company is doing recruiting Filipino mercenaries.

This makes this recruitment illegal with the travel ban to Iraq, and government sanction of this recruitment should therefore be condemned because of the risk involved since the government has the duty to protect the lives, welfare and interests of its citizens by all means and cause.

Those involved in this illegal transaction should be sacked and punished for endangering the lives of Filipinos regardless of whether or not they allow themselves to be easy prey to these unscrupulous recruiters because of their desire for a little comfort that they are deceived to believe they can have! I know a lot of them are even hoping doing such service for the US can merit some consideration for a free passage to America!

Over here, I don’t see parents, et al molding the young Japanese to think of America as a land of promise, and reason why there are not so many Japanese wanting to live in America unlike in the Philippines, where they are being taught that if they want to live, they should try to get out the Philippines, and go even to a country at war and try to survive there. Kung hindi ito kabaliwan, ano ito?

I have friends over here who have tried to get green cards by lottery that the US offers to Japanese now, but surprisingly, after a few years of living there, they come back with better appreciation of their being Japanese, and the saying, “There is no place like home.”

The other day, I read the column of Lito Banayo and felt sad about the letter he said Bill Esposo provided him written by an American who have lived in the Philippines and lamented the situation in the Philippines because of the sad truth that Filipinos, generally, DO NOT LOVE THEIR COUNTRY! Iyong bugaw lalo na!

Oops, grammatical error, sorry. This should read:

    MB,
Let’s not be hasty. Surely his association with her was not all his doing. Diplomats are expected to be a certain breed. Look at Tariq Aziz. Besides, I do think Romulo wants the perch for himself–a nice safe place from which to watch Gloria’s inevitable descent…almost as a matter of his own hereditary rights. Maybe, in other words, del Rosario was squeezed out to make room for Dick. Mr. Romulo’s coy denial would be almost proof positive to me. Has he been heard from?

  40. DJB, it’s Bert Romulo, not Ricardo, who has been mentioned for Washington D.C. Bert Romulo, the clueless foreign secretary, said he prefers to be where he is now.

Manuel, I agree with you re decent people associating with the indecent one. Actually, it’s good that he has cut off, or rather, he has been cut off from Arroyo’s dis-Enchanted Kingdom.

  41. DJB DJB

    Ellen,
I just saw an AL JAZEERA pickup of your story on the purported Filipino Mercenaries in Iraq. A scary thought just occurred to me. If your story is at all FALSE or exaggerated, will itnot have done a great disservice by putting Filipino OFWs in grave danger in the Middle East, since we are painting them now as American guns for hire?

  42. Anna, I like this take of yours:US Ambassador Kenny said both the US and the Philippines are concerned over the global terrorist threat and she also was quoted to have declared, “One person who is not allowing your citizens to live a peaceful, productive life is one person too many.”

Hmmm… I like this US Ambassador! She’s been able to pinpoint our real problem but said it so diplomatically… Moreover, unlike Gloria who like dagdags, Mrs Kenney prefers bawas – heheh!

Can I use this in my next column?

I think Al Jazeera got the story from Al Basrah where I have passed on the story of Ellen because it is true and factual and needs to be passed on to the concerned.

Just who would you save, the robbers who are trespassing into a house and killing all the people who live there or the people, who rightfully own the house and all that it has who are going to be killed by these robbers?!

This is exactly what the Malaya expose is all about. The Iraqis have all the right to protect their land and oil from these invaders and their mercenaries!

  45. ystakei ystakei

Filipinos I guess need to be reminded of the admonition of Jesus Christ, whom majority of them profess to believe in, when He said, “…It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” (Luke 4:4, Matt. 4: 4)

The way I understand the Scriptures is that when people go to war, they become accountable for the number of people they kill especially when their intention in joining such war is exactly what they are being sent there for, TO KILL, which is an abomination in the eyes of God.

As for the Filipinos working in other places in the Middle East, I doubt if they will be the main targets of terrorist groups that menace on anybody as a matter of fact. If they behave and take great precaution, they will be saved. They should in fact, learn to choose the countries they are going to. They should make sure that the governments of the countries hiring them can give them ample protection. They should not presume that their situation will be the same as in their own country where they actually feel less secured.
    Yuck!

  46. DJB, for you to say that the story is false/exaggerated is closing your eyes to the reality that Filipinos are being sent as armed personnel to war zones.

The story was written for the public to know the truth. To find out why is it happening, what can be done about it, those are the next steps. To pretend that it does not exist won’t solve the problem.

Who is endangering the Filipinos? It’s not malaya. It’s the people who caused these wars and the government who created the situation here that forced Filipinos to go to be involved in a war that is not their own just to make a living.

Anna has seen the irony of this “make a living” when in fact where they are going into is close to dying.

  47. Ellen,

Just posted the following in my friend Dean’s blog:

    “Hey Dean,

“I agree with Ellen that she should denounce the existence of foreign mercenary groups in the Philippines. ANY foreign mercenary groups operating, recruiting and training on Philippine soil.

“We already have enough local professional and amateur mercenary, official and unofficial killer factions in the country that it is absolutely essential not to add to the professional killer mayhem.

“Wouldn’t you do the same thing (denounce)if there were foreign Islamic-based mercenary groups, companies operating, recruiting and training Filipinos to do that?

“C’mon, Dean! I would denounce do the same if the French were doing it on Philippine soil.

“You are not to be so blinded by patriotism (for the US) – wrong is wrong no matter who says or does it! Who said that?”

I didn’t say that at all – I said, the situation in the Philippines is extremely difficult; our poor folks are faced with a huge dilemma.

  51. Statement of Sen. Aquilino Pimentel:

AMB. DEL ROSARIO A VICTIM OF GLORIA’S OVERWEENING
    DEMANDS

Knowledgeable newsmen in the United States say that
our Ambassador to Washington Albert del Rosario did
not resign. He was fired. The reasons have nothing to
do with the performance of his duties.

He had done what his duties demanded. But apparently,
Del Rosario was not able to get Gloria an appointment
“soonest” with President George W. Bush as she wanted
her sagging popularity in the country remedied by
having her picture with the US President.

And two, he was blamed for failing to prevent or
rectify the New York Times editorial that pictured the
country under Gloria as plunging into a dark hole some
    months ago.

The President apparently is of the opinion that
criticisms against her even in the US press should not
    see the light of day.

She should be reminded that freedom of the press is
sacrosanct not only in the US, but also in the
Philippines. And the sooner she realizes that, the
better it will be for her and for the country.

  52. From : The Filipino American Community of Metro Washington, D.C.

An Open Letter to Her Excellency, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo,
President of the Republic of the Philippines
    June 21, 2006

    Dear President Arroyo,
We are deeply saddened that Ambassador Albert del Rosario has been unceremoniously dismissed from his post as the official representative of the Philippine Government to the United States. The news of his untimely removal was particularly shocking to us, coming as it did at the height of our Filipino American Centennial Celebration. He has played a highly visible role in projecting a positive image of Filipinos in America and in nurturing the historic friendship between the U.S. and the Philippines.
But what is more dismaying is the unprincipled manner in which his exemplary service has been abruptly terminated. Common decency and respect require that a head of state treat her official representative with high professional standards befitting his stature. Ambassador del Rosario has certainly upheld those standards throughout his five years in Washington, D.C., even to the extent of defending your administration’s integrity in the face of withering criticism.
We are utterly disappointed that despite his loyalty and dedication you chose to treat him so shabbily. It’s simply beneath the dignity of your office, Madam President. How could you stoop so low as to not even give him the courtesy of a personal call informing him of your action. This is truly disheartening given the ambassador’s abiding faith in your administration’s mandate to represent the best interest of the Filipino people. Your actions fuel even more cynicism and mistrust at a time when we are being asked to give your leadership the benefit of the doubt.
Ambassador del Rosario has served his country in many extraordinary ways and we will always remember him with much affection and respect.
