Umalma ang Philippine Nursing Association sa “practical nursing” , ang shortcut na kurso ng nursing na pinapa-iral ng Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Ito kasing CHED ay nag-introduce ng practical nursing program na matatapos sa loob ng 12 hanggang 18 buwan. Ang regular na kurso ng nursing na nakasaad sa Philippine Nursing Act ay apat na taon.
Ang “practical nursing” ay iligal, sabi ng PNA.
Ano naman ang itinuturo sa kurso na ito? Sabi ni Fely Manilyn Lorenzo, dean ng University of the Philippines-Manila, may mga subject daw kung paano mag-operate ng microwave oven at washing machine ngunit walang subject tungkol sa anatomy at physiology.
Aba, ito ang kurso ang supermaid na pinaglandakan ng TESDA ni Gloria Arroyo. Dapat lang umalma ang mga professional na nurses dahil training ng supermaid ang binibigay.Binabastos ang nursing course.
Nanawagan ang Philippine Nurses Association sa CHED na kung maari ay ihinto ang kurso na into na pinpapatupd sa mga 200 na paaralan. Raket ito at kinukwartahan lang ang mga kawawang estudyante, sabi ni Dr. Leah Samaco-Paquiz , presidente ng PNA.
Inisa-isa ng PNA ang rason kung bakit kailangan itigil na ng CHED ang pekeng kurso na ito:
Una, walang nanganga-ilangan na hospital ng practical nurses dahil marami ang nursing graduates ngayon.
Pangalawa, hindi tinatanggap ang practical nurses sa mga hospital sa abroad.
Pangatlo, walang board exam para sa practical nurses kaya hindi sila lisensyado na mahalaga para sa mga hospital.
Itong practical nursing ay kasama sa policy ng pagpa-alipin na pinapa-iral ni Arroyo para mas maraming Pilipino ang pupunta sa ibang bansa at ng makapagpadala ng dolyar dito sa kanilang kamag-anak.
Kaya kahit mga state colleges, kung saan subsidized ng taxes ang tuition ng mga estudyante, hinihikayat ni Arroyo ang training para sa caregiver. Bakit pera taumbayan ang gagamiting para mag-train ng caregiver na mag-aalaga ng mga foreigners sa ibang bansa?
Resulta rin ito sa kultura ng panloloko na pinapairal nitong pekeng presidente. Kawawa ang mga naguyong estudyante kasama na ang mga magulang na magkandakuba para may maitustus sa pag-aaral ng mga anak. Mahal din ang tuition. Siyempre nursing eh.
Akala nila nurse sila pagtapos ng kurso. Kaya pala supermaid.
Actually, there’s a so called Licensed Practical Nursing in other countries like US and Canada. The course takes about two years and one can be licensed. This person usually works as assistant of the Registered Nurse. Aside from LPN, there’s a lower category called Nursing Aid similar to caregiver. Nursing Aid is like an assistant of the LPN. Other countries do recognize the program; but only if you take it in their countries. There’s no such thing as Practical Nursing in RP. Caregiver, yes.

Dahil sa hirap ay gullible na ang mga mag-aaral at magulang na sinasamantala ng impaktang Gloria para lang maipalabas na meron siyang ginagawa para sa pinoy.
Walang pakialam si Korap kung anuman ang kasasapitan ng mga supermaid/caregivers niya, BASTA meron siyang programa kahit walang kwenta.
Humahawak sa pangarap na pangako ng demonya, iyan ang lagay ng mahihirap na pinoy ngayon sa Enchanted Kingdom.
Iyan din ang problema ngayon ng Japan, Ellen. Ipinagpipilitan ni Dorobo na ipadala dito ang hindi naman puede ma-qualify na mga nurses na pilipino dahil sa language barrier. Labas ng mga iyan pag nagkataon, di lang supermaids/superatsoy kundi super-tapu pa!!! Tarantado talaga!
Wow, talaga ang ginagawa ni Dorobo sa mga kababayan niya. Ginagawang pulubi lahat ang pinoy na pinapalimusan niya kunyari para halikan nila ang yapak niya. Ulol! Ang haba daw ng pila ng mga humihingi ng 500 rebate/refund para doon sa koryente. Wowowee pa ang labas! Golly, ano iyan na puro pila-pila na lang ba ang mga pilipino? At least, 12 months iyan. Dito iyong mga dating promoters ng mga GRO, 3 months course ang ino-offer sa mga dati at bagong mga Japayuki para maging supermaids ng mga may sakit, matanda at invalid na mga hapon. Inaabangan nga namin ang magiging kaso naman involving itong mga na-recruit na ito.

Yung pasyente kung kailangan magpainit dahil maginaw, dapat ipasok sa loob ng microwave oven. Kung kailangan ng maligo, ipasok na lang sa loob ng washing machine kasabay ng mga lalabhan para tipid sa tubig.
CHEDS’s Practical nursing maybe the equivalent of Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA)and Home Health Aides (HHA) in the USA. It requires about 6 months actual job training in hospitals and nursing centers plus certification exams. The other one is LVN. LVN is an acronym used in the states of Texas and California, and stands for Licensed Vocational Nurse. The LVN works under direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or a physician. The responsibilities that come with this job vary from state to state. Generally, the purpose of LVN training is to provide individuals with knowledge and practice related to bedside nursing care. A LVN’s scope of practice basically refers to assisting with activities of daily living, administering treatments and medications, such as range of motion, dressing changes, and inserting Foley catheters, as well as checking the patients’ vital signs. In some states, LVN education also includes knowledge and practice in starting and hanging IVs and performing venipuncture for lab draws.
Becoming a licensed vocational nurse is not at all uncommon for people who wish to support themselves while pursuing the RN qualification, especially knowing that there are some RN schools that allow LVNs to challenge some courses through exams or offer course credit. The typical LVN school offers one-year courses of study.
For export ang intention para sa mga graduates nito, dahil walang market para sa kanila sa Pinas. Mahal ang kursong nursing at dahil sa maikling panahon lamang ang practical nursing, higit na mababa ang gastusin dito at may chance pang maka abroad. Ang tawag nga sa kanila ay caregivers na open sa ilang bansa. Litle step ito towards being able to work abroad. Kung caregivers na sila, pwede na silang mag explore o mag aral towards higher level in the health care system.
Walang masyadong locals dito sa abroad ang may gustong gumawa ng trabaho ng nursing aids, kasi nga trabahong katulong ang dating. Dahil matiyaga, masipag at pursigido ang mga pinoys swak na swak sila sa role na ito.

Ang demand for nurses ay pababa na. Maraming bansa ang nagrereview ng healthcare programs nila dahil nga sa krisis sa langis at pagkain. Meaning, maaring magbawas ng benepisyo ang mga bansang ito at idowngrade na lang ang hospital care to homecare lalo na sa senior citizens. Mas kakailanganin ang caregiver kesa nurses na mas mahal ang suweldo.
Yang kurso sa TESDA, hindi naman pala Nursing kundi PT. Punas-Tae sabi nung isang blogger dito.

Where I live, there sprung a lot of centers for a caregiver training, but hospitals and homecare give priority to the local residents (US citizens), dahil wala na ring trabaho sa US of A. This is one state where foreign caregivers are not in demand, PT (physical therapists, hindi punas-tae) pa. Many young people are into the study of nursing, too.

Diego, this is the way nursing profession is categorized: Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Nursing Aid. License Practical Nurse assists and gets order from RN while CNA assists LPN. CNA is almost similar to Caregiver.

Doctors or Nurses from Philippines usually take this course to practice or work in the hospital, otherwise, they will just end up as Caregivers, to the least requires training as well.

That’s correct. The wage difference between RN and LPN in Canada is not much. LPN receives around $23 an hour while RN is about $27.
Kahit PT na punas tae, mas mabuti pa kaysa Pinas na walang trabaho at wala namang maibigay na trabaho ang gobyerno. kikita sila ng dolyar, at may pagasang umasenso, kung mag aaral sila para magqualify sa mas mataas na category sa health service. Maraming career opportunities sa health sector sa abroad, kung hindi ka kuntento sa punas tae. Caregivers, listen, do not be discouraged by the punas tae tag, just go, go, go!
It’s not the intention of this article to denigrade caregivers. It’s a noble job. Although, I would prefer a situation where Filipinos would not have to leave their families to take care of the old and the sick in other countries. Let’s take care of our own sick and let them take care of their own.
But never mind, we don’t live in an ideal world.
The point of this article is the racket being perperated by CHED and money-making outfits masquerading as schools of offering this practical nursing course when the curriculum is not recognized by PRC and the Board of Nursing.In fact, there is no licensure exam for the practical nursing.

The practical nursing course you posted is in Canada. I doubt if Canada recognizes the training for practical nursing here in the Philippines.

Ang doctor sa Pilipinas ay hindi recognize ng USA. Ganoon din ang Practical Nursing sa Pilipinas ay hindi recognize ng USA. Hindi nag re recruit ng doctor o practical nursing na galing sa Pilipinas ang mga hospital ng USA o anumang organization na nag re recruit ng medical professionals sa USA.

That’s the exact point of this article as I understood. And many of the host countries will not employ them as such due to lack of license that they can secure only after studying a course or training in the same field in the host country itself. So, ang labas niyan, matapos man ng practical nursing ang mga pinoy ay lalabas sila ng bansa na caregiver or any other title, which is no different from a graduate of ‘practical nursing’ because they are not armed with a license to practice.
If they are fortunate to leave the country for abroad legally, they can take the course/training in their free time (or time allotted) to get a license to practice. So, what’s the use of this CHED’s lightning course, e di umalis na lang ng Pinas ng caregiver or whatever at mag-aral ng tamang kurso sa abroad. Bakit gagastos pa ng malaki para sa ‘practical nursing’?
Kung gusto ng Pilipinas na mag karoon ng accreditation ang Practical Nursing sa USA ay kailangang kausapin ng CHED ang autoridad sa USA na humahawak sa accreditation sa bagay na yan. Kung ang CHED ay basta na lang sila mag bibigay ng kurso na wala namang accreditation sa ibang bansa eh bale wala lang ang pinag aralan nila. Nasayang lang ang panahon at pera nila. Kaya nga sila nag aaral ng nursing ay para kumita ng malaking pera sa ibang bansa eh.

Ang alam ko, ladderized na ang curriculum ng Nursing. Meaning, yung first 2 years, may diploma ka na as Practical Nurse, pwedeng magtrabaho as Nursing Aid. Two more years, another diploma, at pwede nang Nursing Assistant. One final year, full credentials na, at pag pumasa sa Board, Registered Nurse na. Ang reklamo ng nursing schools, mahirap magdagdag ng isa pang taon sa curriculum dahil the longer the students stay, the bigger the facilities required. Isa pa, saan mo dadamputin yung subjects sa extra year, pati na ang teaching staff?
Problema niyan, pag dumami yung mga “licensed caregivers” na Pinoy sa Tate, kawawa yung mga immigrants na informally nagke-caregiver sa mga seniors. Mawawalan sila ng income. Marami akong relatives na mas matanda pa nga sa inaalagaan nilang senior cits. Sa ngayon, kumikita pa rin sila at nakapagpapadala ng dollars sa Pinas.

Yes, but many schools are already advertising it as part of the curriculum. I’ve seen the banners outside of Perpetual and AMA’s St. Augustine. Not sure if they’re still there though.
